Russell Crowe takes gossip columnist for a ‘bike’ ride

London, September 3 (ANI): Russell Crowe seemed to have settled scores with an Australian newspaper columnist who mocked him for smoking and eating fatty meal – by challenging her to a duel on a bike.

Journalist Annette Sharp ran a story in Sydney’s Daily Telegraph entitled: “Smokes and fatty foods – the fitness regime for Rusty” after the actor was spotted smoking a cigarette and having three tacos and a soft drink.

The article was said to have annoyed the Oscar winner, who allegedly got his spokesman to call up Sharp, who accepted the challenge.

The two reportedly met at dawn for a 12-mile ride through the city, that saw Crowe zooming to victory and leaving Sharp falling off her bike at one point.

Demi Moore shows off washboard abs at 46

London, July 12 (ANI): Demi Moore is 46 years in age, but her beach body might just give women half her age a run for their money.

The ‘Ghost’ beauty showed off her figure in a tiny bikini in the Bahamas this week, where she is holidaying with hubby Ashton Kutcher, 30.

The mum-of-three has a washboard stomach that even rivals Kutcher’s six-pack.

While holidaying, the actress even gave herself a break from her punishing fitness regime, as she clutched a beer while fooling around in the waves with her hot husband.

“Demi looked fantastic – and you don’t get abs like that at her age without putting in a lot of hard work and spending a lot of cash,” the Mirror quoted an onlooker at the beach as saying.

Demi has defied Mother Nature through years of exercise and dieting, and what many claim a little help from the surgeon’s knife as well.

Although Demi has always dismissed rumours about her costly cosmetic surgery, she has admitted paying for unusual treatments such as a detox session involving leeches sucking her blood.

In fact, the ‘Strip Tease’ star has also employed an army of health advisers – including a nutritionist, personal trainer, yoga teacher and kickboxing coach. (ANI)

Andy Murray has a long way to go to reach Brit legend Fred Perry’s iconic status, says daughter

London, July 1 (ANI): Penny Perry, the daughter of Fred Perry, the last Briton to win the Wimbledon men’s championship title (in 1936), believes that there are many dissimilarities between her father and current Wimbledon hope Andy Murray.

For instance, she said her father was from a working class background and always made an effort to keep up appearances in society.

Murray, on the other hand, comes from a middle-class background and was brought up in Scotland.

Perry was married four times and his last marriage lasted 40 years and he was also romantically involved with Hollywood actress Marlene Dietrich. Murray has a long-term girlfriend, Kim Sears, daughter of his coach Nigel Sears.

Perry used a Slazenger wooden racket that weighed 14 ounces and cost around 3.50 pounds. Murray’s high-tech Head equipment is made of carbon and costs around 175 pounds.

Perry liked to smoke a pipe and his fitness regime included training at Arsenal and playing the occasional friendly. Murray is also a fitness freak and heads to Florida in close season for gruelling workouts in the heat.

Penny Perry is beginning to believe her father’s achievement 73 years ago is seriously under threat.

The Sun quoted her as saying: “It is different this year. There is the kind of feeling that takes me back to Virginia Wade, 1977, Silver Jubilee and so on. “All of a sudden, it’s Fred’s 100th, Andy is wearing the gear and it would be 75 years since my father first won it. People tend to forget that because they are so busy thinking about the last win.”

The legendary Fred pocketed 10 pounds and a gold medal for winning Wimbledon in 1934. When he turned professional after winning for the third successive time in 1936, the snooty All-England Club were delighted to have an excuse to withdraw his membership.

If he wins, Murray would pick up a cheque for 850,000 pounds and the pin number to a spin-off fortune.

Penny, who lives in the US, has been a keen spectator from the Members’ Enclosure since the tournament began and sees a connection between her father and Murray – especially since he smartened up.

Penny candidly admits she is in two minds about the thought of Murray lifting the trophy on Sunday – but believes her father would ultimately be pleased. (ANI)

London, June 28 (ANI): England middle-order bat Kevin Pietersen has said that his gruelling self-imposed Caribbean fitness regime caused his Achilles injury.

With the First Test against Australia just 10 days away, Pietersen is still not 100 per cent fit.

According to News of The World, Pietersen has already had a cortisone jab injected into the nerve in his spine to treat the injury.

He admits that too much running during England’s winter tour of the West Indies fuelled his current fitness problems.P’s personal training schedule included:

.3.5mile sprints on a treadmill the night before Test matches.

.Running six miles from the ground in St Kitts to the England hotel instead of catching the team bus.

. Mile-long shuttle runs up and down hills near the team hotel.

“Road running is what I absolutely love, but I did too much. I was doing huge runs in the Caribbean – too much – which hurt my back and was linked to the problems I’ve since had,” he was quoted, as saying.(ANI)

When Andy’s back in south London he never falls out of nightclubs or hangs around with other famous faces.

He’s normally glued to the telly, playing arcade games or out go-karting, playing golf or footie.

Kate Winslet to sue UK tabloid over ‘nasty’ fitness regime article

London, May 9 (ANI): Kate Winslet is to sue a leading UK tabloid newspaper over an article claiming that she had lied about her diet.

The 33-year-old actress has filed papers at London’s High Court and is suing the Daily Mail newspaper for 150,000 pounds.

Talking about the write-up, Winslet said that she was “distressed and embarrassed” about the feature, headlined “Should Kate Winslet win an Oscar for the world’s most irritating actress?”.

The article by Liz Jones, a columnist, was published on 30 January this year, reports The Independent.

Winslet, who believes the article was written in an “unpleasant and nasty way”, is taking Associated Newspapers, the Daily Mail’s owner, to court for 150,000 pounds in libel damages and claims that the article “injured her personal and professional reputation”.

The Mail article, which has since been removed from the newspaper’s website, accused the star of being less than honest about her fitness regime.

Comparing her to other Hollywood actresses, Jones questioned whether Winslet was becoming “as drippy and as impossibly vain as the rest of them”.

In particular, the tabloid questioned a quote Winslet had given to Elle.

“I don’t go to the gym because I don’t have time, but I do Pilates workout DVDs for 20 minutes or more every day at home,” Winslet told the magazine.

Jones continued: “Spend enough time … standing next to women with the physique of broken umbrellas with inflated bits stuck on, and the seeds of self-doubt will sprout, grow and choke you … It is the duplicitousness that enrages me and most other women I have spoken to. Come on, Kate, just be honest about how hard it is to be that size, don’t pretend you are still normal.” (ANI)

England batsman Bell vows to make himself “undroppable”

London, Apr 29 (ANI): England’s batsman Ian Bell has vowed to make himself “undroppable” when he gets his next Test call up.

The selectors meet today to pick the 12-man Test squad with the number three position being contested by Bell, former captain Michael Vaughan, Ravi Bopara and Owais Shah.

Warwickshire batsman Bell impressed the management with his fitness regime after being axed in the Caribbean and cracked the first County Championship hundred of the season upon his return.

It was a lack of substantial innings which cost Bell in the first place and the 27-year-old said: “One thing I walked away with from my experience this winter is that when you are in the team, you have to make it count.

“When I get my next chance I want to make myself undroppable. That’s probably where I have let myself down in the last year. I want to make myself undroppable,” the Daily Express quoted Bell, as saying.

“At times I have played quite nicely for 30s, 40s and 50s but I haven’t got the hundreds behind me to say: ‘You can’t drop him’. You need hundreds if you’re going to keep your place in the team consistently. That is something I will address and when I get my next chance I will try to nail it.”

Bell, identified early as a future international batsman and first summoned into a full England squad seven years ago, will certainly be hoping for a clean slate, having yet to forge the kind of career predicted for him at the turn of the millennium. (ANI)
