UK etiquette authority releases guide on how to behave at cinema

London, August 19 (ANI): Etiquette authority Debrett’s has come out with a first official guide on how cinemagoers should conduct themselves.

The specialist publisher listed recommendations on how not to annoy other audience members with disturbances.

Jo Bryant, from Debretts.com, hopes that the new guidelines will help raise standards of a cinema experience.

“Over the past few years we have noticed an overall decline in the nation’s cinema etiquette. Having someone kick you in the back of the seat or talking for the duration of the film can be a real pain and can spoil a trip to the cinema,” the Telegraph quoted her as saying.

The suggestions include settling down into your chair before the movie begins, and refraining from kicking the seat in front of you.

Avoiding back-row smooching that causes embarrassment to others, along with abstinence from talks or whispers during the film, was also advised.

Debrett’s also offers guidance not to rustle sweet wrappers, suggesting they be opened before the show starts or later during noisy scenes.

Debrett’s came up with the guidelines after a research, commissioned by Orange Wednesdays, showed that 66 per cent of film fans urged for an improvement in etiquette at the cinema.

Andy Pearcey, from Orange, said: “Film fans want to see more than just good value: they want to immerse themselves in the action, kick back and enjoy the best movie experience possible. They do not want to be disturbed by raucous behaviour.” (ANI)

Star Trek director denies Captain Kirk return

Washington, May 1 (ANI): Star Trek director has shot down reports claiming that William Shatner will return to the franchise, insisting his character of Captain Kirk is dead.

Director JJ Abrams said that bringing back Shatner might irk film fans who saw his character die.

“His character died in one of the (Star Trek) films and we wanted to be consistent,” Contactmusic quoted him as saying.

“Everyone says – the Trek fans – if you’re gonna do a Trek film, you need to be consistent. He died,” Abrams added.

Abrams also said he did offer Shatner a role in his new film, but explained it could only be a cameo.

Sylvester Stallone defends casting 50 Cent in new film

Washington, Mar 19 (ANI): Sylvester Stallone has defended his decision to cast rapper 50 Cent in his forthcoming movie, and said that fans’ criticism for the choice is “not fair.”

The ‘Rocky’ star has roped in the most notorious action stars, including Jet Li, Mickey Rourke and Jason Statham, for his all-star action film ‘The Expendables’.

Currently, the shooting for the film is going on in Brazil.

Initially, Forest Whitaker was to appear in the movie as Agent Will Sands.

But he had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts after shooting on the Stallone’s film was pushed back.

Stallone later gave the role to 50 Cent, but the decision has come under fire from film fans who claim that the star isn’t a credible actor.

And now, Stallone has promised on his forum, StalloneZone, that he will guide the hip-hop star through the role.

“Please tell the loyal followers to be positive not negative in their feedback. I am not self-destructive. The anger of the casting of 50 Cent is understandable, but not fair,” Contactmusic quoted Stallone as writing to the forum’s administrator.

He added: “A player is only as good as his coach. If a man can communicate in one medium, he can communicate in another if his strengths are brought out and he has the support of well-wishers.

So, trust me, the change of Forest Whitaker to 50 Cent AKA Curtis Jackson is a good one.” (ANI)

Amritsar plays host to second Punjabi film festival

Amritsar, Feb.5 (ANI): Amritsar recently hosted the second Punjabi Film festival which was attended by eminent Punjabi artists who used this opportunity to promote Punjabi films.

An idea conceived a year ago by prominent film lover Navtej Sandhu, it has now evolved into a major platform to encourage Punjabi films.

The second edition of the festival showcased this fact and much more when it was organized under the aegis of Sur-Saanjh Productions promoted by a group of Punjabi film fans here recently.

Their aim was to promote the Punjabi language and culture through films that have received good reviews in India and abroad.

“Punjabi film, be it a small budget or a big budget film, I personally feel that Punjabi should be promoted. My success in winning the `Miss World Punjaban’ title is because of my love for the culture, language and Punjabi costumes,” said Japji Khara, a Punjabi actress.

“There is no Hindi film without Punjabi flavour. Interestingly, Bollywood films are placing Punjabi songs and using Punjabi characters with a traditional touch. A recent hit is `Singh is Kinng’. But Punjabi films are not so successful,” opined Mohan Bhakdi, a Punjabi film producer and director.

Punjabi film industry is witnessing a tremendous change for quite some time. Since Punjabi film producers today know that they have a large non-resident Indian (NRIs) audience and a global market for Punjabi movies, there is a trend for high-budget films.

Films like ‘Dil Apna Punjabi’, ‘Mera Pind – My Home’ and ‘Lakh Pardesi Hoiya’ were among the recent hits.

Punjabi film industry got global recognition when Waris Shah – Ishq Daa Waris was nominated for the 79th Academy Awards.

It was felt that the hard work and determination of Punjabi artists has been rewarded.

“The legendary singers like Gurdas Maan, Harbhajan Maan, Wadali brothers and Lakhwinder Wadali have made a great contribution to the promotion of Punjabi. They are also popular overseas, which has also had a great impact on Punjabi films. We have become veterans now, but the new generation of artists is really good,” said Punjabi actor Guggu Gill.

“As far as Punjabi films are concerned, even though it a small industry, but it has made a great contribution in popularizing Punjabis worldwide. Be it a singer or actor, they have achieved success. In Bollywood, Punjabis artists have done tremendous work – Mohammad Rafi, Sukhwinder Singh, Dharmendra and Dara Singh, who are from Punjab and were on the top in Mumbai. The day is not far when Punjabi film industry will reach the level of Bollywood,” said Punjabi singer and actor, Lakhwinder Wadali.
