Prince Andrew forgives Fergie over ”cash for access” scam

London, May 26 (ANI): Prince Andrew has forgiven ex-wife Sarah Ferguson for her “cash for access” scam, it has emerged.

A sting operation by British tabloid the News of the World had recently caught the Duchess of York setting a price tag of 500,000 pounds on an introduction to Prince Andrew, promising to open the door to lucrative international deals for the ”client”.

But now Andrew has forgiven Fergie after she called him up and apologised.

She even offered to quit the room she has at his Windsor mansion.

But Andrew told her she could stay as long as wanted to.

“Andrew told her to calm down and get a grip. He is a very caring person, a loving father and he told Sarah not to be so silly,” the Mirror quoted a friend, as saying.

The insider went on: “He told her she had been set up and although she had clearly made a massive mistake, he wasn”t going to kick her out on to the streets. He knows she can”t afford anywhere – that”s why he let her stay at Royal Lodge in the first place.

“The other major reason was because Bea and Eugenie like being close to their mum. Whatever else she is, Sarah has always been an excellent parent and Andrew admires her for that. His attitude is that he isn”t going to tear his family apart because of one week”s bad headlines.”

The source added: “The fact is that when say they are the world”s happiest divorced couple, they really mean it. Sometimes you cannot understand why they split up in the first place. They will always be best friends and although the set-up seems weird to many people, it works for them.” (ANI)

Berbatov is going nowhere: Fergie

London, May 21 (ANI): Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has rubbished claims he was set to cut his losses by selling 30.5 million flop Dimitar Berbatov this summer.

Asked if Berbatov would be sold, The Mirror quoted Fergie, as saying: “No, he will not – definitely not. There”s a problem with Manchester United in terms of expectation and media attention.

“There”s speculation every year and we”ve got to live with that hype. We know Dimitar is a good player and he will be with us next year. We don”t have a great deal to improve on. The one area of concern last season was that we had 16 players missing through injury,” he added.

“That impacts on the stability of the team as the season develops. But we always felt that when our back four was in place there was a sense of purpose and strength,” Fergie said. (ANI)

Man U will have only itself to blame for Premier League title loss: Van Der Sar

London, May 4 (ANI): Goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has said that Manchester United will only have themselves to blame if they come up short in this season’s title race.

United trail leaders Chelsea by a point going into the final day of the season, with Carlo Ancelotti’s side clear favourites needing only to beat Wigan at home to be champions.

“You hope, but you don’t really expect anything,” said the Dutchman.

Van der Sar admitted he and his United team-mates did not expect any favours from Liverpool, with Fergie’s men aiming to outstrip them by claiming a record 19th title.

“I think we expected it,” added Van der Sar.

Van der Sar conceded United, who face Stoke at Old Trafford on Sunday, were not optimistic of Wigan denying Chelsea victory at Stamford Bridge to give them a glimmer of hope.

“You want to grab every little chance there is. You never know in football, of course, but it’s going to be hard, difficult and unlikely. But never mind, we have to make sure we work until the end. It would have been nice if we were a point ahead,” he said. (ANI)

Furious Fergie accuses Gerrard of “gifting” Chelsea victory

London, May 3 (ANI): Manchester United coach Sir Alex Ferguson has accused Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard of “gifting” Chelsea victory at Anfield yesterday.

Gerrard set up Drogba opener with a terrible back pass, and Chelsea is now 1-14 on to win the Premier League title on Sunday.

The Sun quoted Fergie, as saying: “I just saw it after the game. It was a great gift. There is nothing you can do about it. You just have to get on with it. All we can do is win our game against Stoke.”

Drogba said: “Gerrard made a big mistake. I was lucky to be there and score. It was good because this goal gave us a lot of confidence to play well.”

Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti said: “It was a key game in the fight for the title and we played very well – we deserved to win.”

Chelsea defeated Liverpool two nil in Sunday’s match. (ANI)

Its “squeaky bum time” for Tory leader Cameron: Sir Alex Ferguson

London, Apr 28 (ANI): Manchester United manger, and staunch Labour Party supporter Sir Alex Ferguson has criticized Tory Leader David Cameron, saying it was a “squeaky bum time” for him.

With pre-election polls indicating that all three major parties are neck-to-neck, Fergie told The Daily Mirror “What was the old Harold Wilson saying- a week is a long time in politics? My god, it must have been a long few days for Cameron.”

The sharp-tongued manager went relatively easy on Liberal Democrats leader Nick Clegg, saying that “I must be honest, I don”t see this Clegg thing. I mean he was fine, and spoke well enough, but I was no clearer what he was about than I was at the beginning.”

Sir Alex described Gordon Brown as “solid and strong”, while Cameron “looked really weak under pressure and that is the last thing you want in a prime minister” reports The Daily Express. (ANI)

Roo’s absence won’t stop Man U’s Champions League title quest: Fergie

Munich (Germany), Mar.31 (ANI): A defiant Alex Ferguson on Tuesday insisted that Manchester United will win the Champions League even without injured striker Wayne Rooney.

Fergie suffered a double nightmare here as United crashed to Bayern Munich and Rooney limped off with an injured right ankle.

The defeat was an eerie mirror image of United”s famous Champions League final triumph over the Germans in 1999, when the Red Devils fought back from a goal behind to win with two last-gasp strikes.

According to The Sun, Ferguson was in no mood for surrender.

“An away goal is always an advantage, no question about that. And the tie is not dead. Bayern have a strong chance but on our own ground we should have a real chance of progressing,” Fergie was quoted, as saying.

He also criticized his team for constantly giving the ball away.

“Our possession was not good enough. But the real crux was giving the ball away and it caused us to defend when we didn”t need to defend. We got our goal very easy. Maybe it was too early but we had outstanding chances to win the tie through Wayne in the first and second half,” he said.

Bayern Munich coach Louis van Gaal said his side would have a big advantage if Rooney misses the return match.

“Rooney is United”s most important player. Look at the statistics, he has 34 goals this season, then they have 11 own goals as their second top scorer and Berbatov with 10 goals. So that”s how important he is to United,” he said. (ANI)

Fergie brands FA chiefs as dysfunctional and biased

London, Mar.20 (ANI): Manchester United coach Alex Ferguson has branded FA”s disciplinary chiefs as ”dysfunctional” and implied they were biased in the wake of Steven Gerrard”s let-off for elbowing Portsmouth”s Michael Brown.

That ruling came just two months after Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand landed a four-match ban for a similar incident.

The Sun quoted Ferguson, as saying: “I didn”t expect him (Gerrard) to be charged simply because it is a dysfunctional unit at the FA. I don”t think they know what they are doing. You just scratch your head at some of these decisions, there is no consistency.”

“But I certainly think if it was a Manchester United player he would have been done – as was the case with Rio Ferdinand,” he added.

Fergie wants more ex-bosses involved in the disciplinary process.

He added: “I wonder if it”s worth exploring some managers who don”t have a job at the moment taking over that department.” (ANI)

Debt-ridden Duchess of York Fergie in line to join Loose Women

London, September 13 (ANI): Debt-ridden Duchess of York Sarah, 49, may soon bag a presenter’s job on the hit lunchtime chat show ‘Loose Women’.

After her guest appearance on the programme earlier this month, Sarah is now desperate to have a permanent seat at the table anongside motormouths like Carol McGiffin and Denise Welch.

Fergie, as she is popularly known, is even said to have begged ITV1 bosses for the job.

“Sarah loved it so much that afterwards she asked to be a panellist,” the News of the World quoted part-time anchor Andrea McLean, 39, as saying.

“We would all jump at the chance. She would be absolutely ideal. We’d love to have her,” McLean added.

Sued by three firms over nearly 25,000 pounds in unpaid bills, Sarah can make up to 50,000 pounds a year if she gets a regular spot on the show.

An ITV1 insider said: “Fergie has a lot of interesting things to say and would be great for Loose Women.” (ANI)

Rooney unlikely to captain Manchester United, says Fergie

London, Sep 12 (ANI): Old Trafford Boss Sir Alex Ferguson has said that ace striker Wayne Rooney is unlikely to captain Manchester United.

Rooney has spoken of his desire to be skipper, but Ferguson prefers defenders or midfielders to lead his side.

“It’s difficult for a forward to be captain. Eric Cantona was because he was such an influence to young players, they idolised him,” The Sun quoted Ferguson, as saying.

“But normally you look at midfielders or defenders. Wayne will always take responsibility, he has a natural desire for that and will always give 100 per cent,” he said. Ferguson insists “we have yet to see the best of Rooney.”

“When players reach 25 they play with authority and bring calmness to their game,” he added. (ANI)

The bombshell confessed that often when negative comments about her weight or appearance depress her she looks forward to fans’ support.

Man U eyeing Akinfeev as replacement for Van der Sar

London, Sep 7(ANI): Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has already started looking out for a possible replacement for goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar, as they prepare for life after his retirement.

According to reports, Man U are eyeing Russian goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev to replace Van der Sar, who is on the verge of retirement.

The 23-year-old Akinfeev has impressed many club managers since arriving on the scene five years ago, it is believed that he has been on the radar of a number of Europe’s top teams and Fergie does not want United to miss out, The Sun reports.

Van der Sar has said that he will make his decision about whether to hang up his gloves at the end of this season. (ANI)

Black Eyed Peas break US chart record

London, Aug 21 (ANI): American hip-hop group the Black Eyed Peas have broken a US chart record by notching up 20 weeks on top of the singles countdown.

The band’s song ‘I Gotta Feeling’ has claimed an eighth week at number one, following 12 weeks at pole position with ‘Boom Boom Pow’.

The record beats Usher, who held the number one spot for 19 weeks in 2004 with Yeah! and Burn.

“It is amazing to know that these songs have connected with so many people,” the BBC quoted Black Eyed Peas frontwoman Fergie as saying.

She also added that it was what had “kept them alive for so long”.

“With this kind of success your ego wants to take all the credit,” fellow Black Eyed Peas member Will.i.am said.

“But your heart reminds your soul that it was your heart that had you slaving and creating in the studio making the music.

“In the fight between heart and ego my heart always wins,” he added. (ANI)

Ferguson accuses Tevez of betraying Man U

London, July 14 (ANI): Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has accused Carlos Tevez of betraying Manchester United by indulging in a deal with Manchester City in January.

The Argentine footballer has signed a five-year contract with City to complete a 26.5 million pounds move, after his loan contract with Manchester United expired.

Fergie said that he made numerous efforts to get the 25 year-old to stay back. I think they did the deal around January because I spoke to him and gave him an offer on the Inter Milan night and he never came back to me,” Fergie said.

“I phoned him on holiday – he never came back to me. I texted him twice – he never got back. Obviously he had made his mind up,” he added. (ANI)

Fergie vows to clean up her ‘filthy’ language during shows

Washington, July 14 (ANI): Black Eyed Peas singer Stacy Ann Ferguson, aka Fergie, has vowed to clean up her “filthy” language during the band’s stage shows.

Fergie, 34, who had embraced her sexual side during her solo career, and turned stage shows into raunchy extravaganzas, revealed that she would like to be a better role model for young girls.

She insists the Boom Boom Pow hitmakers are a family band, and has vowed to keep performances with them child-friendly.

“I wasn’t trying to be a role model with (debut solo album) The Dutchess…,” Contactmusic quoted her as having told Marie Claire magazine.

“Seeing little girls in the audience with their moms. (It) made me think about what I do onstage a little bit more. I had to watch my mouth, because it can be filthy,” she added. (ANI)

Fergie ready to pay 25 million pounds for Barca’s Eto’o

London, July 12 (ANI): Manchester United coach Alex Ferguson is aiming to snatch Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o from under the noses of Manchester City with a 25 million pound bid, News of The Wordl reports.

The Barcelona striker has told club president Joan Laporta he’d be leaving the Nou Camp just hours before City ended their interest.

That left Manchester United with a clear run at the Cameroon international and they are ready to offer him a four-year deal on 150,000-pounds-a-week. Eto’o is also seeking more money based on appearances and goals.

Agent Jose Maria Masalles said: “At 28 he wants to join a club which will give him another chance of winning trophies. It can’t be just about money. It has to be about the sporting project.”

United will make it clear they will not be kept waiting and will not increase their offer. (ANI)

Man U targets Milan striker Ibrahimovic

London, July 9 (ANI): Manchester United is looking to rope in Inter Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic after missing out on several top signings.

Left with limited options after Lyon striker Karim Benzema opted to join Real Madrid and Bayern Munich striker Franck Ribery revealed his desire to play in the La Liga, The Mirror said coach Alex Ferguson is desperate for a replacement for Winger Cristiano Ronaldo.

Fergie has admitted that he has analysed the Swede international on several occasions, and was impressed by his style.

Inter is, however, would be reluctant to sell Ibrahimovic, who is worth 30 million pounds and has twice been voted Serie A Player of the Year. (ANI)

Nani fears for Man U future

London, July 5 (ANI): Manchester United winger Nani wants boss Sir Alex Ferguson to give him assurances over his future – but he may not get them.

The Portuguese international, 22, is concerned about speculation he could be surplus to requirements. And he will sit down with Fergie during preseason training to find out exactly where he stands.

A United source said: “Nani believes his chance has come following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, but the rumours just won’t go away and he is looking for answers.”

Nani has struggled to live up to expectations since his 14 million pound move from Sporting Lisbon two seasons ago, News of the World reported.

Spanish clubs Atletico Madrid and Villarreal have both been linked with moves for the player.

Sir Alex still thinks Nani will come good but will not stand in his way if he is unhappy. He could even prove a valuable makeweight as the United boss pursues further attacking options.

The 18 million pounds arrival of winger Antonio Valencia from Wigan will have done little to ease Nani’s fears. (ANI)

Real steal French striker Benzema from Man U

Madrid (Spain), July 2 (ANI): Manchester United have been dealt another bitter blow by Real Madrid, as the Spaniards signed Lyon star Karim Benzema for 30-million pounds.

According to Sun Sport, the French striker Benzema was the man Man U boss Alex Ferguson wanted to replace Carlos Tevez.

But free-spending Real president Florentino Perez nabbed the ace to leave Fergie reeling.

Benzema, 22, is one of the hottest strikers in European football and had attracted interest from Chelsea, Arsenal, Barcelona and AC Milan.

He became Madrid’s fourth signing so far this summer after the capture of Ronaldo, Kaka and Raul Albiol.

Benzema will sign a six-year deal worth about 100,000-pounds a week, with the fee possibly hitting 35.2 million pounds with bonuses.

A statement from the Bernabeu giants said: “Real Madrid and Lyon have reached an agreement for the transfer of Karim Benzema, which will be effective after the player’s medical and the signing of the contract.”

Benzema’s move means Real are no longer in the market for Spanish international striker David Villa. (ANI)

Man U ropes in Valencia as Ronaldo’s replacement

London, July 1 (ANI): Manchester United has completed the 17-million-pound transfer of Antonio Valencia as a replacement for Portuguese winger Cristiano Ronaldo.

Boss Alex Ferguson, who welcomed the Ecuador ace yesterday, said: “He’s a player we have admired for some time now, having spent the last two years in the Premier League with Wigan.

“I am sure his pace and ability will make a significant contribution to the team,” The Sun quoted him as saying further.

Fergie is hopeful Valencia, 23, can fill the wing role vacated by Cristiano Ronaldo.

And the player admitted he was in dreamland after signing a four-year deal.

Valencia said: “I’m thrilled to have the chance to challenge for the biggest honours. (ANI)
