Now, boots to fit ”cankles”

Melbourne, May 10 (ANI): A Melbourne-based designer has created boots for people with larger calves and ankles.

Research shows that more than 60 percent of Aussie women aged 15 to 55 have trouble, or know someone who has difficulty, finding boots to fit their legs.

Amanda Bennetts faced the same problem before she began designing boots for “cankles”.

“Originally I thought I was the only one with chunky calves, but when I mentioned it to a few of my friends, they too had the same problem,” the Herald Sun quoted Bennetts, as saying.

She added: “I felt a lot better knowing I wasn”t the only one.”

She started making boots and sold them at markets.

The market stall soon developed into Bennetts Boots, the only wide calf boot specialist Down Under.

These boots are five to 15cm wider than the average boot.

Bennetts said: “We don”t take a common boot, put a strip of elastic in it and call it wide calf.

“After a day on your feet, the elastic hurts and you look like you have big calves.”

Bennetts” boots are made of high-end soft quality leather and are available in a range of colours.

They comprise three calf widths to elongate the leg and full-length zips ensure they are easy to slip on and off.

They also have an anti-smell, anti-sweat lining and extra cushioning in the sole.

Bennetts said: “Fashion is about individuality and expressing yourself through your personal style and every woman deserves exclusive designs, which is why we limit the number of boots we make in every style.” (ANI)

PML-N leaders sniff ‘third force’ conspiracy

Islamabad, Apr 26(ANI): Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders have expressed their fears about some conspiracy or ‘something extra-constitutional’ being hatched by certain elements belonging to the Army and intelligence agencies.

Raising concerns about the conspiracy, PML-N spokesman and senior leader Ahsan Iqbal has said that a third force wants a clash between the judiciary and parliament.

Iqbal did not name the third force precisely in the same fashion, as Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has repeatedly done in recent months, The News reports.

According to another PML-N leader, the Army is trying to pitch the judiciary against parliament and for this purpose it is using certain elements in the media.

The leader, however, did not have anything concrete to support his argument.

After the recent bloody riots in Abbottabad and Hazara, another PML-N leader had voiced his doubts that some intelligence agencies had played tricks to trigger violence in the area. (ANI)

U.S. Republican staff shake-up amid nightclub furore

The U.S. Republican National Committee had a top-level staff shake-up on Monday after revelations that it spent $2,000 to entertain potential contributors at a sex-themed nightclub.

Republican National Committee Chief of Staff Ken McKay resigned his post, becoming the second and highest-level staff departure since the furore erupted, according to Politico, a news organization that covers U.S. politics.

The controversy gripping the RNC comes as the party is hoping to grab control of the U.S. Congress from President Barack Obama’s Democrats in November congressional elections.

Republican control of the House of Representatives and Senate would reduce Obama’s ability to get his initiatives through Congress. But the leadership issues in the RNC are threatening to distract Republicans at a pivotal time.

“The members of the Republican National Committee entrusted myself and every staffer to lead the loyal opposition against the destructive Obama agenda, build a stronger Republican party and win elections,” RNC Chairman Michael Steele said in a statement.

“This is a role I take with the utmost seriousness. With this in mind, I want to do everything in my power to ensure that the committee uses all its resources in the best possible fashion,” Steele said, adding that he had appointed a former campaign aide, Mike Leavitt, his new chief of staff.

Steele, who was not at the RNC-paid outing at a bondage-themed nightclub in West Hollywood, has been criticized over his stewardship of the organization.

Some prominent Republicans have stepped up criticism of the RNC under Steele as it is working to build cash reserves for the November mid-term congressional elections.

“I’m nervous; I haven’t seen the photographs,” News.com.au quoted Ellis as saying.

She added: “That’s an issue we’ve been working really hard on, and if by wearing an outfit I probably wouldn’t ordinarily choose I can help fashion magazines to promote a healthy body image and raise awareness amongst their readers, that must be a good thing.

“I want women to be able to read their fashion magazines if they so choose, and still have self-esteem and confidence at the other end of it. This is about working with the industry.” (ANI)

Bulls battle losing cause

Victoria is six wickets away from securing its second successive Sheffield Shield title against Queensland, on the final day at the MCG on Sunday.

After resuming at 29 without loss, the Bulls lost openers Wade Townsend and Ryan Broad inside the first six overs of the day to be reeling at 2 for 48 chasing an insurmountable 640.

At lunch, Queensland was 4 for 118 with Lee Carseldine standing firm on 53 and Chris Hartley unbeaten on 2.

Townsend (19) was brought unstuck by Bryce McGain, who landed a wildly-turning off break in the rough outside the left-hander’s off-stump which shot back into the stumps.

Darren Pattinson got his second scalp of the match when he tempted Broad (14) into playing at an outswinging delivery outside his off-stump.

The ball found the edge of Broad’s blade and flew to Matthew Wade for an easy catch.

Carseldine and Chris Lynn righted the ship for awhile but their 62-run stand was ended by McGain, who bowled Lynn for 21.

Bulls skipper Chris Simpson again failed to have an impact, falling for a seven-ball duck in the same fashion as Broad.

‘Love cheat’ Terry thanks Chelsea for being supportive

London, Mar 8 (ANI): John Terry led Chelsea into the Football Association Cup semi-finals and defiantly showed off his captain’s armband.

His decisive goal against Stoke earned a last-four tie with Aston Villa, who beat Reading 4-2 after a hattrick from John Carew.

Terry has been a target for opposition fans since losing the England captaincy due to the Bridgegate Affair.

He thanked the Blues for their support last night, appearing to compare it with a lack of backing in the Three Lions set-up, The Sun reports.

“The armband means a lot. Chelsea have been very supportive, the players as well. It has been a good week, good to get away with England, play well and then come back here and prepare for this game,” Terry said.

Chelsea’s assistant boss Ray Wilkins hopes that rival supporters will now call a halt to jeering Terry.

Wilkins said: “He is an exceptional captain. He leads these players on the pitch in fantastic fashion. I would like to think it would stop the abuse. It’s served its course.” (ANI)

Chelsea enters FA Cup semi-finals

London, Mar 8 (ANI): Chelsea tightened their grip on the Football Association Cup and warned Aston Villa they are not about to let go.

The holders entered the semi-finals with a 2-0 victory over Stoke. An impressive performance from Carlo Ancelotti’s side saw them clinch a Wembley date with Aston Villa.

Chelsea’s assistant boss Ray Wilkins praised his team as they made it to a ninth FA Cup semi-final in 17 years.

“There’s a feeling among these players that they own this competition. There’s immense pride in every game they play. They’re a group of winners. We never get beat because we don”t put the effort in. Again today they showed a terrific will to win,” The Sun quoted Wilkins, as saying.

“We class the FA Cup as a massive competition. The elation in the dressing room after last season was magnificent. The FA Cup is high on our list. Another game at Wembley is a huge incentive,” he said.

Wilkins praised his skipper Johyn Terry, and said: “He’s an exceptional captain and we’re delighted to have him on board. He leads these players on the pitch in fantastic fashion and scored the second goal, which was a great goal. This was another superb performance from him.”

Wilkins also made a point of saying that he is certain Joe Cole – who is out of contract in the summer – has a future at the club. (ANI)
