British policeman wins international award for UFO sighting database

London, May 21(ANI): A British policeman, Gary Heseltine, has won the 2010 Disclosures Award in Washington for his database of UFO sightings in the UK.

The 49-year-old picked up the award for his website, prufospolicedatabase.co.uk, which he launched in 2002. The database includes 330 cases and the witness statements of more than 750 police officers.

“Winning the award was a total surprise, I didn’t know I was going to win until my name was read out,” The Telegraph quoted Heseltine, as saying.

“It’s also a terrific boost for my database as it puts me on an international platform and I have already been offered chances to give lectures in Brazil and Denmark,” he added.

Elucidating his fascination with the unexplained, Heseltine said it began at the age of 15, when he spotted a mysterious bright light while walking his first girlfriend home.

“I was with my first girlfriend heading towards the comprehensive school and suddenly became aware of a large bright light. Suddenly all the electricity on the housing estate we could see ahead cut out,” Heseltine said.

“We were terrified at the time, but afterwards I decided to investigate and discovered that power cuts are extremely common during UFO sightings,” he added. (ANI)

Animals’ sex-life inspires Nicolas Cage to eat their meat!

London, May 19 (ANI): Nicolas Cage has revealed that he will only eat meat from those animals that have a ‘dignified’ way of having sex.

The Hollywood star, 46, says he won”t touch pork because he doesn’t like the way pigs romp.

Instead, he scoffs poultry and fish because he finds their love lives more tasteful.

“I love all animals. I have a fascination with fish, birds, whales – sentient life – insects, reptiles. I actually choose the way I eat according to the way animals have sex,” the Sun quoted Wacky Cage, who won an Oscar for Leaving Las Vegas, as saying.

“I think fish are very dignified with sex. So are birds.

“But pigs, not so much. So I don”t eat pig meat or things like that. I eat fish and fowl,” he added. (ANI)

Ivanka Trump’s accused stalker jokes he’s got his eye on her mom

New York, May 19 (ANI): Businesswoman Ivanka Trump’s accused stalker has revealed that he is over her and that he is now moving on to his next target – her mother Ivana Trump.

Justin Massler, 27, joked about his plan in a rambling, tongue-in-cheek chat outside a Manhattan courthouse on May 18.

“You know who I don’t have an order of protection against? Ivana Trump,” the New York Daily News quoted him as saying.

“Maybe I’ll start stalking her,” he stated.

Massler, who flew in from Reno, Nev., for a five-minute court hearing, insisted he now has zero interest in the 27-year-old daughter of developer Donald Trump.

“Ivanka? That was months ago. I’m not even stalking anymore,” he said before going on to explain his fascination with her.

“She’s just like a princess. I’ve got to marry the most beautiful princess in the land,” he added. (ANI)

”Sickest film ever” makes viewers reach for sick bags

London, May 18 (ANI): A movie that is being hailed as one of the most twisted, stomach-churning films of all time, is said to have made American cinemagoers reach for the sick bags.

”The Human Centipede” features a depraved storyline about a psychopathic German surgeon who drugs his victims before surgically joining them together, mouth to backside, in order to create a human centipede.

And now British movie fans are bracing themselves for the forthcoming release of ultimate video nasty.

The horror is said to be so gross that cinemagoers have been racing out of US screenings to be sick – and reviewers are warning audiences not to eat before seeing the film.

Many of the actresses who auditioned for the gore fest refused to have anything to do with the film and walked out in disgust when they got a look at the full script.

But the sadistic and vile scenes of humans being stitched together in the doctor”s cellar, after the surgeon”s earlier failed attempt to do the same with dogs, are proving the film”s big selling point.

Clips from the film have been a YouTube sensation, with the trailer alone racking up 1.4million views. Screenings in Los Angeles have also sold out.

Such has been the repulsion and fascination with the film on horror websites that audiences in US cities where the movie isn”t being shown have won the right to have the movie beamed into their own homes.

In an unusual move, the low-budget, high-gore film is now available on pay-per-view television right across America while still on limited release in cinemas.

In a few months time, the movie is set for release in Britain, if it doesn”t get banned first, and the buzz surrounding the film has led to several UK companies competing for the rights to release it later this year.

“It”s a very sick idea but I knew it was something that people would talk about,” the Sun quoted the film”s Dutch writer-director Tom Six, as saying.

He decided to make the villain German after learning about sick Nazi medical experiments carried out after their invasion of the Netherlands in World War II.

German actor Dieter Laser plays twisted surgeon Dr Heiter and creates one of the most memorable and evil villains in cinema history.

A real surgeon advised the moviemakers during filming and the movie”s poster boasts that the procedures shown in ”The Human Centipede” are “100 per cent medically accurate”.

Meanwhile the twisted flick looks set to become a lucrative new horror franchise with The Human Centipede 2 already in production. (ANI)

Harry Potter’s Quidditch game’s real-life version sweeping US universities

London, May 3 (ANI): Quidditch, a fictional sport developed by J.K. Rowling for the Harry Potter book series, has now been adapted from the book and is being played in reality, minus the flying.

The latest fascination is sweeping students of US universities, with more than 400 teams following the game and the rules as mentioned in the Harry Potter book series, reports The Sun.

Players have to keep to their sticks at all times and are penalised with yellow or red wands for foul play.

But there is no flying like there was in the book. The players remain on the ground.

Universities of UK are also gearing up for the latest fad.

“We”re bringing it home,” 18-year-old Jack Williams, of Cambridge”s fledgling team, said. (ANI)

Nazis have always fascinated Jesse James, says dad

New York, April 28 (ANI): Jesse James” father Larry says his son has always had a fascination with Nazis.

The world may have been shocked when snaps of the former Monster Garage host, 41, came to light but not daddy Larry.

“I don”t ever recall my son dressing like that, but he did have a fascination with the Nazis,” the New York Daily News quoted Larry as telling TMZ.com.

He added: “He liked the war machines, he liked their uniforms, he liked their guns, he liked everything about them.”

According to Larry, Jesse had been fascinated with the Neo-Nazi movement right from his childhood and his interest grew more after he met one of Larry”s friends who was a Nazi.

After meeting the blond haired and blue-eyed Nazi, Jesse is believed to have said: “There”s a perfect example for the master race.”

Larry recalled: “[Jesse] started getting really interested in it so I destroyed all of the information that I had been given and didn”t let him pursue it any further.” (ANI)

Obama plays golf eight times more than Bush

London, April 20(ANI): US President Barack Obama’s love for golf seems to exceed his predecessor George Bush’s fascination with the game.

Obama has played golf 32 times since he took office, which is apparently eight times more than Bush did in his entire presidency.

After his trip to Krakow for the funeral of Lech Kaczynski got cancelled due to flying bans over Europe, the US president immediately headed to the course, reports the Telegraph.

Meanwhile, the Warsaw Business Post in Poland carried a headline that read: “Obama goes golfing instead of attending Kaczynskis” funeral”.

Bush was often criticized for playing golf during his tenure.

However, he had ultimately decided to quit.

He ha said in 2008: “I don”t want to some mom whose son may have recently died to see the commander-in-chief playing golf… And I think playing golf during a war just sends the wrong signal.” (ANI)

Abbott’s togs to hang at Alice pub

Federal Opposition Leader Tony Abbott’s bright red swimming trunks and cap will be put on display in an Alice Springs pub.

Mr Abbott made the outfit famous when he wore them in a race.

Avril Vaughn owns a pub in Alice Springs and bought the ensemble in an online charity auction for $3,400.

She said it was “a lot of money to get into someone’s pants” but it was for a good cause.

The money raised from the sale has gone to the Spastic Centre.

“Alice is full of fun-loving people and they I’m sure will see it for the bit of fun that it is, and a donation to a great cause,” she said.

But she has no great affection for the Liberal Party leader.

“No particular fascination, but I think for a 52-year-old man I thought he sports those Speedos pretty well.”

Smart people are sexier

Wellington, Sep 2 (ANI): A person’s sex quotient lies in his or her brain, according to a study that suggests that being smart is sexy, and the smartest males get the most partners.

Through a study on Australian birds, a team of researchers have lent support to the idea that our big human brain evolved because it is a sexually attractive organ, not just a useful one.

According to the above theory, signs of intelligence – such as creating art, music, and humour – could have made the brainiest people luckiest in love.

The theory was hugely discussed in the book ‘The Mating Mind’ by an evolutionary psychologist, Geoffrey Miller, almost a decade ago.

Jason Keagy, of the University of Maryland in the US, said that testing the theory in humans was very difficult, and thus he chose to observe satin bowerbirds at Wallaby Creek in NSW instead.

He claimed that Bowerbirds are intelligent.

“But they’re not as complex as humans,” Stuff.co.nz quoted him as saying.

Keagy could get an accurate record of the male birds’ sexual success by videotaping their every movement.

“They can’t really lie to us,” he said.

Known for their fascination with blue objects, bowerbirds have a strong aversion to red.

In the first IQ test, the researchers placed three red objects under a clear plastic container in their bower, and found that the smartest males could remove the cover and carry away the offending objects in 20 seconds.

“It looks pretty simple, but some weren’t able to do it,” said Keagy.

In a second braintwister, he glued a red object down and observed that some bowerbirds kept on trying in vain to pull it out, while the brighter ones quickly twigged this was impossible and covered it with leaves.

The males who failed the plastic container test were spurned.

“No females were mating with them,” said Keagy.

However, the smartest birds attracted up to 20 female partners a season.

“This is the first evidence [in any species] that individuals with better problem-solving abilities are more sexually attractive,” he said.

He claimed that greater intelligence could allow male bowerbirds to woo more females because they can build more elaborate bowers, are better dancers or are more responsive to subtle cues from the females during courtship.

Alternative theories to the mating mind include that our large brain evolved because it was advantageous for hunting or living in social groups, and cultural creativity was simply a fortuitous by-product of the struggle to survive.

The study has been published in the journal Animal Behaviour. (ANI)

Advani asks party leaders to avoid fascination for being in news

New Delhi, July 6 (ANI): Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Lal Krishan Advani on Monday expressed concern at the party leaders developing a habit of becoming news for the sake of drawing media attention.

“The urge (among some party leaders) to see their names in newspapers …to see their face on TV for a few seconds … Sometimes, I feel there are too many spokespersons in our party,” Advani said at a function held to mark the birth anniversary of Jan Sangh founder Shyama Prasad Mookherjee in the national capital on Monday.

Several senior BJP leaders had spoken to news channels on the reasons for the party’s poll defeat and letters written by some party leaders discussing internal party matters and disagreements were leaked to the media, leaving the party red faced.

Recalling the sacrifices made by Mookherjee, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya and Atal Bihari Vajpayee to raise BJP to its present state, Advani said the party should take all precautions to avoid mistakes as it negate these sacrifices.”

“Leaders like Mookherjee, Deen Dayal, and Vajpayee have raised this party to this level… we should prevent little mistakes on our part ….”, he said.

Advani said the recent election loss should not dishearten BJP members as the party had faced several “ups and downs” in the past. The party still has 116 Lok Sabha MPs.

The Leader of the Opposition said all had not been lost by the BJP after recent poll debacle. “The party has a bright future,” Advani claimed. (ANI)

Michael Jackson 8 Profiteers that Astound and Infuriate All of Us

Michael Jackson 8 Profiteers that Astound and Infuriate All of UsAs CRLS anticipated, cashing in on Michael Jackson’s death has become the “world’s greatest death meme.” As the trend of celebrity Twitter statements has subsided, the world is left with the true bottom-feeders. These are the folks who do not create MJ YouTube videos for promotion, but rather, attempt to bring home the bills by exploiting our unwavering Jackson fascination. Not counting New York’s street merchants (to be fair, some of the MJ pins are kind of awesome) here’s an eight-point list of Michael Jackson profiteers that impress and annoy us.

1. OK! Magazine: They recently published a photo of Michael Jackson dead on a stretcher. The picture cost them $500K and the Jackson family is outraged. Not OK.

2. AEG LIVE: The production company set to run Jackson’s English performances has plans to release a DVD of MJ’s last rehearsal. However, this is understandable since $85 million must be refunded in ticket sales, not to mention the amount lost in preparation for the tour.

3. Sony: Word came today that there are hundreds of unreleased songs in existence. “When a music star of Jackson’s stature dies, labels typically comb through their archives to pull out anything they can release. New compilations of recordings by performers such as Elvis, Tupac and Jeff Buckley are still released nearly every year.”

4. Lindsay Lohan: Underwear + Michael Jackson hat. The Twitter picture speaks for itself.

5. The Michael Jackson Estate: The challenge lies in developing and leveraging the celebrity’s legacy without cheapening the product. If done smartly, this can enhance the celebrity’s public standing — and marketability — for many years to come.”

6. Radio Stations: Fortunately, the people who are mostly benefiting from the 1,735 percent rise in MJ airplay are his songwriters. Having written/co-written some of Jackson’s greatest hits (Rod Temperton wrote “Thriller”), these select songwriters will be receiving extreme royalty boosts.

7. Nona Paris Lola Ankhesenamun Jackson: “All my husband’s properties, monies and assets must be transferred to me immediately” and “my husband’s body must be returned to the coroner’s body [sic] or the mortuary immediately.” Nona has filed a petition though the L.A. County Superior Court. There is zero evidence

8. Gary Mayor Rudy Clay: “If it’s good enough for Elvis Presley, it’s good enough for Michael Jackson, too.” Clay expects Jackson’s old, run-down Indiana home to become the next Graceland.

Hollywood star Johnny Depp is to pass on his fascination for guns to his children as he plans to teach them how to handle weapons.
The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star has two children with his long term partner Vanessa Paradis – Lily-Rose, 10, and seven-year-old Jack – and Depp admits he began handling firearms at the age of six when he was growing up in Kentucky, and wants to pass on his experience to his kids, reports imdb.com.

“We would just go out and line up a bunch of cans and shoot with rifles, handguns and at times, submachine guns… When I was a kid it was a controlled atmosphere, we weren’t shooting at humans… we were shooting at cans and bottles mostly. I will most certainly take my kids out for target practice.” he said.

They have never been seen in Europe before, said Richard Blurton, assistant keeper at the museum’s Asia department.

Former head of Punjab Police cherishes collecting war medals

Chandigarh, May 22 (ANI): Sarabjit Singh, who has been former Director General of Police from Punjab, has developed a special interest in collecting war medals.

The fascination to collect war medals started in 2001, when one day he happened to juggle through some medals at an antique shop. Since then there was no looking back.

Today, the 65-year-old Sarabjit Singh continue his deep interest in collecting medals.

“I was reluctantly taken to an antique shop to look for antiques. I found a bowl full of rusty looking old medals. While fiddling through them, I found medals of the Word War I and II and even pre-World War I. Being interested in medals because of my profession and also because I am a son of an army officer, I immediately took a liking to them,” said Sarabjit Singh.

His collection includes medals belonging to the era of Tipu Sultan of Mysore, the 1857 Indian War of Independence (referred as Indian Mutiny), World War-I and World War-II, first and second Afghan Wars, both Anglo-Sikh Wars and Maratha Wars.

In his collections Singh also has several medals of Indian princely states.

“Very few people collect medals. So the clientele is limited. Accordingly the people dealing with this are also limited. But then there is a society called OMRS (Orders Medals and Ribbon Society), which is registered in UK. They list out the medal collectors all over the world. The members of the society are 7000 now. This society helps us to trace out the history, authenticity and value of a medal because each medal has a story and history behind it,” said Sarabjit Singh.

Singh became a member of the Orders Medals and Ribbons Society, UK and attended their annual conventions in London.

Incidentally, London is the global centre for medals with world famous auctioneers and collectors hunting for new additions to their ‘haul’ of medals. By Sunil Sharma (ANI)

Popularising art and literature in rural areas of Punjab

Bathinda, May 11 (ANI): Having drawn to the world of colours and creativity in early childhood, Amarjit Singh of Bathinda, has since then been passionately popularising Punjab’s vibrant culture and history through art world.

“My aim is not to put up exhibitions in cities, but to educate the people of Malwa region about our culture and traditions, which is fading away. I have taken up works of poets, writers, authors, and dramatists to visualize them and try to paint culture through the scenes of villages, cities and forests,” said Amarjit Singh.

Singh tells that his fascination for paintings started just like it happens to any other person who gets drawn to art in childhood. He would visit any place if there were any painting exhibition being held.

He says it was when he reached standard eight in school that he made up his mind to be an artist.

“I finally decided to develop my skills from class eight onwards. But due to financial problems I had to drop the idea. I received five years of rigorous training from my maternal uncle Guru Savinder Singh. Now I have my own studio in Bathinda,” said Amarjit Singh, the painter.
Mentioning about the world of painting, Singh says that the profession of painting is not very popular in Punjab, as paintings sold here fetch very low prices.

Singh shares that he has also started painting the scriptures inscribed in the holy Guru Granth Sahib.

“I try to depict the feelings of proverbs on canvas so that people can better understand their meaning. I am trying to paint 100-150 such works so that I can display it in an exhibition. I love this type of religious work, ” Singh added. By Avtar Gill (ANI)

Susan Boyle set for jungle show ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here’

London, May 4 (ANI): Britain’s Got Talent’s singing sensation Susan Boyle has been lined up for an appearance on the jungle show ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here’ later this year.

ITV bosses are looking into capitalising on the 48-year-old Scottish singer’s worldwide fame, and she has been chosen for a starring role in the hit reality show after hosts Ant and Dec, both 33, put her name forward.

Bosses reckon Boyle would be perfect in the Aussie Outback and would pull in bumper ratings as millions of her fans tune in to watch her antics.

And her global success, particularly in the States, could also widen the show’s appeal and attract millions of viewers in America and Australia.

“Susan would be TV gold if she went in the jungle. She’s the biggest celebrity of the year so far,” the Daily Star quoted a show source as saying.

“I don’t think there’s anyone in the country who doesn’t know who she is.

“Having her in the jungle would be a massive boost, not to mention helping us attract audiences from around the world.

“Every one of those millions of people who logged on to the web to see her would go to our website to see what she’s doing. If we sold advertising on the clips it’d be worth a fortune,” the source stated.

But it is not just the prospect of millions in revenue that is making Boyle such a popular choice for a spot, as telly bosses think she would be a brilliant contestant in the outback.

“Susan has got a great sense of humour which would be great to have in the jungle,” the source said.

“There’s such a fascination in what she’s like and how she acts that I think not only would she do well, she could actually win.

“The British public love someone who is bonkers and funny. I think they would easily fall in love with her straight away,” the source added. (ANI)

Berlusconi’s wife wins the battle against his ‘babes’

London, Apr 30 (ANI): Silvio Berlusconi’s wife seems to have won the battle against Italian prime minister’s eye for attractive young women.

His party has decided not to promote the four starlets Berlusconi recommended as candidates for the European Parliament.

Veronica Lario had launched a scathing attack on the Berlusconi insisting that she’s ‘suffering’ from his fascination with young women.

She described his behaviour as “shameless rubbish” and compared him with Napoleon and a Roman emperor.

Berlusconi’s governing coalition had initially considered putting forward the women, including television show hostesses and a former Big Brother contestant, as potential MEPs to represent Italy.

However, left-leaning daily La Repubblica stated that the fact only one of the four young women had been chosen to contest the elections in June was a victory for Veronica.

“A win for Veronica, Berlusconi excludes showgirls,” the Telegraph quoted the Italian press as stating. (ANI)
