Climate Corps 2010: Investigating Energy Use in the Big Apple Climate

EDF Climate Corps Fellowship: One week down, nine more exciting weeks to go!

How do I feel after my first week, you ask? To be honest … I feel like Sherlock Holmes.

It has been nearly a month since the Climate Corps training in San Francisco, where I joined 24 of this year’s 51 Climate Corps fellows to get down to the nitty gritty of energy efficiency. I walked away from the training with a sense of excitement, ready to take on energy efficiency at the VivaKi (Publicis Groupe) offices in New York City. Armed with my EDF handbook, I was ready to hit the ground running in the Big Apple.

From training, I learned that lighting retrofits, HVAC upgrades and employee engagement are all important aspects to keep in mind when making the case for energy efficiency. My job was to investigate. Like any good detective, I started asking questions. This initial list of questions with which I broke the ice may prove helpful as a starting point for other companies looking to tackle the curious case of the missing energy budget.

I questioned the lighting.

* What upgrades have been made to the lighting in the last three to five years?
* Are there any official lighting policies (e.g. are the lights dimmed after a certain time)?
* Are the lights on when rooms are unoccupied?

I questioned the HVAC.

* Who operates the HVAC system, and how could I meet with them?
* Which controls are automated and which are manual?
* Who sets the temperature standard?

I questioned employee engagement.

* Are there incentives in place for employees to be efficient with energy consumption?
* Is there a single department responsible for green initiatives?

With these questions in mind and a busy week one agenda in hand, I traveled to New Jersey and Pennsylvania to tour over 500,000 square feet of rentable space. I interviewed a director of real estate, senior vice president of facilities, building manager and principle of a project management company.

Some days were packed with meetings and traveling. Most days, I found myself wandering the floors of the main building. With notebook in hand, a keen eye and a curious mind, I found myself quietly tiptoeing through empty, air-conditioned conference rooms and climbing up onto bathroom sinks to examine light fixtures.

From an elevator poster, I learned of an employee-initiated “Green Team.” From working late, I learned about official lighting policies from the cleaning crew. With each walk-through and encounter, I discovered little nuggets of information. Like Sherlock Holmes’ gift in matters of observation and deduction, I too hope to be able to draw conclusions — money-saving, energy-reducing conclusions — from my discoveries.

Though I may be wandering the halls by myself, few great detectives work alone. Working alongside me are 50 other fellows from the nation’s top business schools that are stationed at some of the world’s leading corporations. With weekly conference calls and constant emails, ideas and advice on topics from foot-candle conversions to green retrofits are shared among us.

With this dynamic group of leaders, I am certain we will be able to make a compelling business case for our respective companies to cut costs and reduce carbon emissions. It’s a triple win — for the fellow, the environment and the company’s triple bottom line.

With training from EDF, support from the fellows and educational preparation from Pepperdine University, I get closer everyday to piecing together a comprehensive plan and standard for VivaKi to use going forward. If the first week is a harbinger of the rest of summer, I can’t wait to see what mysteries I will uncover in the nine weeks to come.

iomart Hosting, one of Europe’s leading providers of managed hosting and

website 11v11.com to provide round-the-clock managed hosting support in
preparation for a surge of interest during the World Cup.

create a real-time online community where fans from all nations can
discuss the tournament with a Twitter-based application allowing

Phil Worms, marketing director of iomart Hosting, said: “11v11.com
is planning to be the number one website for World Cup facts and figures
and it is a great resource for solving those trivial pub arguments often
had with friends. Once the tournament gets under way, and we get caught
up in the excitement, we’ll find ourselves digesting every little piece
of footballing trivia that comes to hand. Who has scored the most goals
at the finals? Who has lost most often? It’s compulsive and sometimes
more entertaining than the matches themselves!

“11v11.com contains an amazing wealth of information which needs to
be stored and updated so a stable and reliable hosting platform is
absolutely essential. iomart Hosting will ensure that it can be accessed
from Australia to Honduras 24/7.”

The 11v11 website contains comprehensive data on all 32 competing
nations. Not only does it have a back catalogue of results, lineups and
goal scorers from the past 100 years, it also has detailed information on
player transfers, disciplinary records, team head-to-heads and an
analysis of the top 50 goals scored in the World Cup, as featured
recently on Channel 5.

Maintained by a community of football historians and statisticians it has
also created an international player ranking system so every player at
the World Cup can be judged on attributes such as match performance,
appearances and honours. Results will be updated online immediately after
each match so whether it is Lionel Messi or Wayne Rooney, supporters can
see exactly how each and every player has performed.

Mark Baber, managing director of 11v11.com, said: “Our aim is to
establish ourselves internationally as the leading source of historical
and statistical football information so we required a web hosting company
with similar attributes and ambitions. We decided to use iomart Hosting
because they offer fantastic customer service, value for money and, most
importantly, have a real willingness and enthusiasm towards football and
helping us reach our goals. We currently have 1,000 visitors to our
website every day but in the midst of World Cup fever, and with the help
of iomart, we’re expecting this to multiply many times.”

iomart Hosting owns and operates its own network of five UK data centres
and is part of iomart Group plc which recently announced a 55% increase
in revenues and a doubling of its hosting customers in its full-year
results.

Based in London, 11v11.com has gained a reputation for being a top
independent statistical information website. Plans are in place to
implement complete historical and up-to-date statistics for each and
every league side in England, in time for the start of the 2010/11 season
in August, with Scottish, German, French, Italian and Spanish versions of
the sites also in the pipeline.

Pietersen crucial for England’s chances of winning World Cup: Collingwood

London, May 13 (ANI): Skipper Paul Collingwood has said that Kevin Pietersen, who arrived back in the Caribbean after becoming a father, is crucial for England’s chances of winning their first cricket World Cup after 35 years of trying.

Pietersen landed last night and will regain his place at No.3 in the World Twenty20semi-final with Sri Lanka today. Pietersen”s wife Jessica Taylor gave birth to their first baby, a boy, on Sunday.

Collingwood insisted Pietersen will rejoin a squad oozing with confidence, excitement and talent, The Sun reports.

“I’m sure KP will be happy and raring to go. Fatigue shouldn’t be an issue and he will be in a great state of mind. He won’t have a formal practice, but I’m sure he will have a few hits,” the England skipper said.

‘There is nothing technical he needs to change and I’m sure his mind will be 100 per cent right. KP is very important. He played two man-of-the- match innings before he went home and looks back to his best,” Collingwood said.

England won all three of their Super Eights matches against Pakistan, South Africa and New Zealand.

“Captaining England in a world semi-final, that’s brilliant. I had a real sense when we turned up with this squad that we could do well. We’ve made some selections that have really come good,” Collingwood said.

“I think there was a real belief in the squad at the start of the tournament and now there is a lot of excitement. Sometimes, when you get to these situations, you sense some nerves but that hasn’t been the case. The boys can’t wait to play.

“This is the most powerful England side I”ve played in – definitely. Everybody can hit sixes all the way down to No 10. The bowlers are also thinking for themselves,” added. (ANI)

Olympic star Bright flashes gold in Cooma

Olympic gold medal-winning snowboarder Torah Bright will be back in her home town of Cooma tomorrow for a parade in her honour.

Bright won the women’s halfpipe at the Vancouver Winter Olympics in February.

She says her life has been surreal since the win.

“Life’s been pretty hectic, still trooping around the world to finish off the rest of the winter and sponsor commitments and all sorts of media requests,” she said.

“I’m really looking forward to the weekend actually, heading home and sharing in the excitement with everybody.

“And then have some time with the family.”

Bright says the parade will also celebrate the achievements of other Cooma and Jindabyne locals on the Winter Olympics team.

“There’s one pretty cool little thing; there’s three of us all from the same [Cooma] primary school.”

Not happy Glenn – retailers rage against rate rise

Australia’s small retailers are so furious with the Reserve Bank governor’s decision to raise interest rates that they are calling for him to resign.

The Retail Group, which says it speaks for thousands of small shop owners, says Glenn Stevens is failing to deal with the mining boom’s generation of a two speed economy in Australia.

Glenn Stevens may think he is Sydney’s most boring person but his decisions generate the sort of excitement that most people would prefer to do without.

Yesterday’s decision to lift the cash rate by 25 basis points was almost instantly followed up by the big four banks. And Tony Standley from The Retail Group says Glenn Stevens knows that would put crippling pressure on small retailers.

“The speed at which the banks passed on the yesterday’s round was to say it was done… as if their fingers were poised over the button,” he said.

“The average business person, the average consumer, that day to day activity in business, that is being ignored.

“We believe there should be enough commonsense within the RBA board to understand that. That is the reason why we have questioned Glenn Stevens’ judgement.”

The Retail Group represent small retail outlets like those found in big shopping malls. It says the rate rises are hurting them from both sides. It is costing more to get money from the bank, and fewer people are walking into their stores.

“We have to question whether in fact the RBA really looked at those inputs, which make up their decision,” Mr Standley said.

“If you look at say some of the costs which the average consumer, you and me, are [sic] experiencing right now, with state increases on electricity rates, they should be part of the RBA’s decision making and be discounted.”

Mr Standley says a two speed economy has reemerged, with the mining sector doing well, and most other consumer related sector’s being punished for its success.

He says the RBA is making its decisions with too much regard for the strength of the mining sector, and not enough concern for the welfare of small retailers.

“Our view is the RBA mandate, which is in fact set by the Parliament as to what its role is, really does need to be questioned,” he added.

Retailers are not the only ones hurting. A new survey of the Services Sector, which includes professional vocations such as lawyers and accountants, shows consumers becoming more cautious about their spending.

The Australian Industry Group’s chief executive, Heather Ridout, says five rate rises since October have taken a toll.

“Five of the 12 sectors are still going backwards. You would have to say the lacklustre nature of employment shows how cautious employers are being,” she said.

“But, clearly, the worst is behind the industry and we’re hopeful that the consumer related sectors will start to pick up because we’re seeing quite strong growth in anything related to construction or resources.”

However, according to economists, the pressure on business is going to get worse.

Crude oil prices hit an 18-month high overnight to $US87 a barrel.

Savanth Sebastian, an economist with the Commonwealth Bank, says petrol prices will surge in the coming weeks.

“The national average petrol price is now holding at an 18-month high. Importantly, I think it’s likely that there’s more bad news for motorists around the corner,” he said.

“The Singapore unleaded price, which we derive our petrol from, has tracked significantly higher in the past week. In fact, it’s at an 18 month high. It’s up around 5 to 6 per cent, and that certainly needs to flow through to the pump prices,” he said.

“So we expect that petrol prices will probably rise by about two to three cents a litre over the next fortnight, and the risks are certainly to the upside given that the higher Australian dollar is helping subdue some of that strength in pump petrol prices at the moment.”

Riverland faces off against Red Stars

The best Riverland men’s soccer players will take to the pitch against the Adelaide Red Stars in Renmark today.

Riverland Soccer Association’s secretary and team member Adrian Pipe says it is a real coup to have players of this calibre in the region playing in the Federation Cup.

He says there could be an exciting finish to the day if the match is close.

“There should be lots of excitement, the way the cup draw is, there has to be a result on the day, so extra time or penalties if it’s needed, but hopefully we can have our noses in front at the end of normal time,” he said.

Kick-off is at 2:30pm (ACST) today at the Renmark Sporting Grounds.

Stevens uses ‘God given capabilities’ to steer economy

The governor of the Reserve Bank surprised interest rate watchers again by speaking about his Christianity and how it drives his role as a central banker.

Glenn Stevens used a charity breakfast in Sydney this morning to say he was using his god-given talents to do the job of managing the economy.

This week Glenn Stevens has been showing his human side.

Over past few days, Australians have learned he loves flying, playing the guitar, listening to jazz and watching James Bond films.

Mr Stevens is also keen to be known as an ordinary bloke with an unexciting life – something this morning’s organisers had already been warned about just in case they did not know.

“I have to say I think we are all getting very worried about anybody in your position that was excited. We really, we are not looking for too many excitement at that kind of level,” said the Wesley Mission’s Reverend Keith Garner, who hosted the event.

Glenn Stevens did not disappoint, telling the Wesley Mission’s annual Easter breakfast that in these turbulent days, boring is good.

“I am actually Sydney’s most boring individual. My life is fairly straight forward and there is nothing particularly remarkable about me at all and when I am not in the job anymore I will be disappearing, I can assure you,” he said.

However, for now, Glenn Stevens is enjoying a new audience away from the deeply serious world of monetary policy.

This morning, Mr Stevens spoke frankly about his Christianity, how it applies to his high pressure job and also average people who live in the real world.

“Whoever we’ve had here, whatever job they’ve done, whether they were a taxi driver, an office clerk or a manager, I think I’d want to say, how does the Christian faith impact upon your daily life?” asked Reverend Garner.

“I don’t think that is any different for me than it would be for any of them,” Mr Stevens replied.

“I think if you are a Christian, God has given you certain capabilities to do a job, to earn a living and the bible teaches that you should do that as if you were doing it for him, because you are and that is my attitude.”

In an audience of business and community leaders, including the former prime minister John Howard and the ABC’s managing director Mark Scott, Mr Stevens also responded to a direct question about his belief in God.

“I would say that, despite claims to the contrary, there is a God. This is worth checking out and the critical issue people have to deal with is, was Jesus Christ who he claimed to be? If he wasn’t then you can forget about it, and if he wasn’t then I am living in a fool’s world,” Mr Stevens said.

Perhaps those beliefs have helped Mr Stevens along the way – he admits he was not good with numbers as a child, and maths was not his strongest subject.

However, after 30 years at the Reserve Bank, Glenn Stevens seems to have learned a few survival skills.

“You have to keep your own ego in check. You have to focus on the job at hand. Keep your head down. You get a lot of criticism in this role. That is our society, that is the way it is,” he explained.

However, monetary policy is never too far away, and Mr Stevens used the breakfast to warn that while Australia avoided a recession, there was a big challenge in managing the upswing of a booming economy.

“We are back now into a period of expansion, and that is good because very deep recessions leave a long lasting legacy of unemployment and all the things that go with that, so you don’t want to have that,” he said.

“But the point is that to avoid that, you have to try to manage the preceding upswing so that you don’t get into a position of having the deep downturn.”

Although economists were not in this morning’s audience, they were watching every word, and Glenn Stevens comments, while deadpan as usual, are seen an another sign that the Reserve Bank is concerned about the pace of economic recovery, and that interest rates are odds-on to rise when the RBA board meets next week.

Hawks not focused on revenge yet

Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson does not expect the Hawks to be concentrating on avenging their poor 2009 season when they play Melbourne in Saturday’s round one clash at the MCG.

The Hawks endured a disappointing season last year by missing the finals despite winning the 2008 premiership.

But Clarkson says those memories are likely to be a major motivating factor later in the year, rather than Saturday.

“For 16 sides (it’s) just the excitement of finally being able to play a serious game of footy at this point of time,” Clarkson said.

“I’d reckon trying to have some time of revenge for last year’s performance might come later in the season if we participate in the finals and that sort of thing.

“But in the early part of the season it’s just the excitement of playing games again.”

The Hawks will blood two new players, but half-forward Cyril Rioli and new recruit Shaun Burgoyne will both be missing.

Clarkson says Rioli was underdone after a groin problem, and that the Hawks are being cautious with former Port Adelaide star Burgoyne given his past knee and hamstring troubles.

Tara Reid wants Cinderella-style wedding

Melbourne, Mar 26 (ANI): American actress Tara Reid has revealed that she wants her wedding to entrepreneur Michael Axtmann to have a fairy-tale Cinderella look.

Reid, 34, wants to have a white wedding “somewhere warm”, and though she did not reveal the date, she has expressed her excitement about looking for a dress.

“I’ve always wanted that fairy-tale Cinderella look,” the Herald Sun quoted her as saying in the new issue of In Touch Weekly.

“There’s only one moment in your entire life when you can dress like that, so I want to go over-the-top. A total princess,” she said.

Reid admitted she has enlisted Rani Totman, of St. Pucchi, to design her gown.

“I’ve been married in movies and stuff,” she said.

“But it’s not like this, picking out my own dress. Seeing myself and picturing Michael at the altar, I get butterflies in my stomach,” she added. (ANI)

Eighth F1 title is still possible, says Schumacher

Melbourne, Mar 26(ANI): Seven time Formula One champion Michael Schumacher has said that he is aiming for his eighth title this season.

“My expectation was to fight for the championship and I still think that this is possible,” The Daily Telegraph quoted Schumacher, as saying.

“Can we win the championship this year? That is a tough question. It is a long year and I have been in much worse circumstances at the beginning of the year and still taken a championship. I am not feeling pessimistic at all. I know it is hard work and we will make a big effort,” he added.

Schumacher, who finished sixth in the season opener of F1 in Bahrain last Sunday, reckons that he will be stronger in Australia, where he has won four times.

He is also pushing the technical team, led by his former Ferrari chief Ross Brawn, to deliver a car that responds to his needs and driving style.

“I feel excited. It is a great challenge to work again and to develop projects and events. That is always where there is excitement. You never stand still, it is always an ongoing process. This is what I want to do, but I have to be motivated,” Schumacher said. (ANI)

McKenna keen for Hunt to join squad

Gold Coast coach Guy McKenna will give Karmichael Hunt a wide-ranging, onfield introduction to his new sport when the code-hopping star joins the AFL franchise in May.

Hunt’s stint in French rugby ends in May, although he will not arrive back in Australia until late in the month if his club Biarritz advances to the grand final.

McKenna is sticking by his plan to play Hunt in just two VFL games this season ahead of his planned AFL debut in 2011 when the Coast join the top tier as the 17th club.

Speaking on Wednesday, McKenna could hardly contain his excitement at the prospect of slotting the former Brisbane Broncos NRL star into his team.

“I can’t wait, he’s a driven individual,” McKenna said.

“He’s probably going to teach us more about where he should play, rather than us telling him where he should play.

“I’m going to get him out there, throw him in the deep end – play him forward, play him back, play him through the midfield – and hopefully I can do that over a two-game experience for him.

“Then we can sit back and say ‘right this is where I reckon he’s going to play, this is where he felt comfortable, what does he need to do in that position?’

“I think it’d be fairly silly for us to go and pigeon-hole him right now – this is what he needs to do, this is how strong he needs to be, this is how fast he needs to run, how far he needs to run – all those sorts of things, until he’s actually played the game.

“But as I said, he’s a driven individual, he’s achieved a lot in such an early career as a footballer whether that’s in rugby league or rugby union, and I know he’s going to make this post a winner as well.”

McKenna said Hunt, 23, had fully recovered from a hamstring injury.

Zoe Saldana says skin tone prevented her from landing Hollywood roles

New York, March 24 (ANI): Actress Zoe Saldana has revealed many Hollywood roles escaped her basket over her skin tone.

The 31-year-old actress said she had met many casting directors who were against hiring a black actress.

“[I''ve heard] ”Oh, you know, you”re just not what we were looking for, your skin is a little darker,”” the New York Daily News quoted her as saying.

Zoe further spoke of her excitement when James Cameron wanted to cast her for “Avatar”, the highest grossing film of all time.

She said: “I had no idea [my character] was blue and 9 feet tall. But for some reason, [James] was like, ”You look so much like her!”” (ANI)

Beckham may be decisive factor to swing 2018 World Cup bid in England’s favour

London, Mar 23 (ANI): Ace midfielder David Beckham will play an important role in England winning the bid to host the 2018 World Cup, says Danny Jordaan, the head of this year’s tournament.

Beckham’s presence in South Africa this summer could prove a decisive factor for England even though he has been ruled out from playing through injury.

The chief executive of South Africa 2010 said he expected Beckham to accept England manager Fabio Capello’s offer to travel with the squad for the World Cup.

“I think David Beckham will still come. There is already an indication that he will be part of the [backroom] team and also England is making a bid for 2018 and I’m sure that the bid team will use him during the World Cup. He’s an important factor,” The Telegraph quoted Jordaan, as saying.

“We saw when he went into Khayelitsha [the Cape Town township] for the draw in December, the excitement of the youngsters because he is an important figure in football. I think England’s 2018 committee understand he is a major factor in their bid and if he’s not able to play then he will have more time available to help the bid process.”

Beckham is already a bid ambassador for 2018 and Jordaan added that he felt England had a “realistic” chance of being successful.

With just 80 days to go now, Jordaan conceded that there would be fewer fans — around 100,000 fewer — attending than as originally estimated.

However, he dismissed claims that security fears and the lack of infrastructure — adequate transport links and accommodation — had led to fans’ considering missing the event. (ANI)

Pietersen to groundsmen: Prepare good Test pitches or risk killing the game

London, Mar 19 (ANI): England batsman Kevin Pietersen has asked groundsmen to prepare good Test pitches or risk killing the game.

England’s hard-fought first Test win over Bangladesh on a flat slow track in Chittagong was in stark contrast to the excitement of Twenty20 cricket.

“I love Test match cricket. But as a cricket lover, a pitch like the one in the First Test is no good. If we’d been playing India on that it would have been 700 plays 100-1,” Pietersen said.

“I want Test match cricket to survive for as long as possible because it is a real test and it toughens people up. But if Test cricket is to remain the No 1 game then groundsmen have a huge part to play,” The Sun quoted him, as saying.

England go into Saturday’s second Test hunting a 2-0 series victory, which would see stand-in skipper Alastair Cook secure a 100 per cent record on tour.

“We must grind it out to get a good victory for Cookie. But Stuart Broad is doubtful after going down with a stomach complaint,” Pietersen said. (ANI)

Grand celebrations to mark 200 days ahead of Games

New Delhi, March 16 (IANS) Come Sunday and Delhi will see well-known artists like Satish Gujral paint a 200-foot canvas on the theme of Commonwealth Games at the India Gate lawns to mark the 200 days that are left for the Commonwealth Games in October.

Suresh Kalmadi, chairman of the organising committee of the 2010 Commonwealth Games, Tuesday said: ‘As we get closer to the Games, the sense of anticipation and excitement is growing. We are also more and more confident that we will deliver the best Commonwealth Games ever.’

‘I take this opportunity to renew our commitment to producing successful Games,’ he said.

The festivities Sunday will include art and culture events that will make for a fun-filled day for the capital’s residents. Along with artists, eminent sports personalities will also paint the canvas in an effort to attract people’s attention and get them more involved.

Talking about the completion of various incomplete projects, Kalmadi said: ‘We have set our own deadlines in planning and in getting together teams of personnel to ensure that we will meet our objective of delivering a world class event that all participants will enjoy.’

A special kite flying festival will also organised on the day.

Mark Owen’s rehab stint puts Robbie Williams-Take That reunion on hold

London, Mar 17 (ANI): Robbie Williams’ reunion with Take That has been put on hold owing to Mark Owen’s rehab stint.

Last weekend, the band had booked a recording studio in Wiltshire, but it was cancelled after Owen’s wife Emma kicked him out over his 10 affairs.

Owen, 38, is receiving help for issues with booze, drugs and depression while at the clinic.

And the band has told him that he can take as much time out as he needs.

“They were all heading down there, Robbie included, but the plan has been scrapped for now. All they care about is Mark at the moment and it wouldn’t feel the same all of them practising for their comeback without him,” the Mirror quoted a source as saying.

It was revealed last year how the band, which also includes Jason Orange, Gary Barlow and Howard Donald, spent time in a recording studio in New York last September.

But the source added: “All excitement about the future is very much on hold because Mark’s got to get better first.”

Meanwhile, Mark’s friends have revealed that it’s “far too early” for Emma to have made any decisions about taking the cheating singer back.

“She wants to see how Mark responds to treatment. Believe it or not, she does want him to get better – for his own sanity if nothing else,” said a pal. (ANI)

Jolie-funded Afghanistan school to welcome 800 girls

Washington, Mar 17 (ANI): The primary school for girls, which Angelina Jolie funded in Tangi, Afghanistan, is all set to open its doors to 800 students, according to a UNHCR statement.

Jolie, the UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador, visited a refugee settlement in Afghanistan”s eastern Nangarhar province and donated a whopping 75,000 dollars toward the school”s construction.

The facility features eight classrooms, a well and eight latrines, and is set to begin classes next Monday, when their school year begins.

Although UNICEF built classrooms in the area accommodating 1300 students two years ago, many parents hesitated, for cultural reasons, to send their daughters to a school also used by boys.

“I always had hopes and dreams of going to school. The hope to become a qualified teacher has revived in me,” Us magazine quoted a 14-year-old girl named Laila, as expressing her excitement about the new school.

Igbal Azizi, head of the region”s provincial education, stressed the importance of Jolie”s gift, saying that Tangi girls, “otherwise would have been deprived of education.”

However, Jolie, filming ‘The Tourist’ in Venice, Italy, failed to make it for the new school”s celebration. (ANI)

US Masters to be broadcast in 3D

In an unprecedented broadcasting move, the 2010 US Masters will be produced and broadcast live in 3D, Augusta National Golf Club chairman Billy Payne has announced.

Multiple 3D cameras will be strategically placed across the famed course, resulting in views never before seen of the former nursery site that has become the home of the first major championship of each year in early April.

The production, which will primarily focus on the back nine, will be distributed live to US 3D capable television sets and computers.

“Innovation has always been part of Masters tradition,” Payne said.

“Utilising this technology marks another important milestone in allowing our at-home patrons to better experience the beauty of our course and excitement of our tournament.”

Two hours of live afternoon 3D coverage will be available starting with the Masters Par 3 Contest on April 7 and each day of the April 8-11 event.

Excitement builds as water returns to dry lakes

Water is expected to return today to Lake Boga near Swan Hill, two years after the lake dried up.

Goulburn Murray Water decided on Friday to release 10,000 megalitres of water made available from recent good rain.

Residents were out in force at working bees over the weekend trying to ready the lake bed for the surprise flows.

Lake Boga Inc’s Coral Finlay says the town is buzzing with excitement.

“So everybody seems to be on an absolute high,” she said.

“I’ve never experienced anything like this on a community basis.”

Water will also start flowing today into two of the lakes in the Menindee Lakes system that have been dry since 2002.

The Department of Water is releasing flows from today into Lake Menindee and Lake Cawndilla.

It will make space for the incoming Darling River flows so that the expected daily volumes during the flood peak, in April, can be managed without unnecessary flooding.

There has also been an increase in general security allocations in the Murray Valley and Murrumbidgee systems in New South Wales.

Allocations in both systems are up by two points to 22 per cent in the Murray and to 26 per cent in the Murrumbidgee.
