Government approves amendments in ASA between India and Saudi Arabia

New Delhi, Sep 17(ANI): The Government on Thursday gave its approval to the amendments in the Air Services Agreement (ASA) between India and Saudi Arabia.

In the MoU signed, the provision of the incorporation of ‘multiple designation clause’ has been agreed and, therefore, each side can now designate any number of airlines as they wish.

The capacity entitlement for the designated airline of each side has also been enhanced from the existing 8,500 seats per week with frequencies not exceeding 31 services to 20,000 seats per week with frequencies not exceeding 75 services per week.

Bangalore, Calicut and Lucknow have also granted additional points of call for the Saudi designated carriers apart from the existing Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Cochin and Hyderabad.

While, Medinah has been granted as additional point of call for India designated carrier apart from the existing Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam.

The capacity to be operated by the Indian designated carriers to and from Dammam for which the Government of Saudi Arabia has declared an open sky policy, shall not be counted against the capacity entitlements available to the Indian carriers.

Both sides have also agreed for the open sky with regard to all cargo services with full third and fourth freedom traffic rights.

As per the summer schedule of 2009, Saudi Arab Airlines fly 39 services per week – 9 to Mumbai, 5 to Hyderabad, 7 to Delhi, 5 to Chennai, 4 to Kochi, 2 to Bangalore, 4 to Calicut and 3 to Lucknow.

Air India flies 46 services per week – 16 services per week to Riyadh, 14 to Jeddah and 16 to Damman. (ANI)

Oz bosses bringing back 1950s style of management

Melbourne, Sep 10 (ANI): A survey has shown that bosses are cutting costs and dropping the collaborative management style of the early 2000s in favour of the 1950s-style.

Social researcher and leadership expert Avril Henry said that employers are doing everything from cutting out biscuits to banning hot food from the office.

They are also telling employees to snack on fruit outside in a bid to cut cleaning costs and cope with strained budgets, and are also micromanaging and bossing their staff around, rather than engaging with them.

“It sends a signal to employees that ‘I don’t trust you can do the job without being closely supervised’, it equates not seeking input from anybody below senior executive level,” News.com.au quoted Henry as saying.

The South African-born public speaker and author of Inspiring Tomorrow’s Leaders Today says examples of tight, bossy behaviour began emerging at the end of last year amid the deepening financial crisis.

“In the process of cutting costs we often do things that alienate the employees,” she said.

“You can cut the biscuits and you can tell people ‘we’re not providing tea and coffee, bring in your own’, but we still pay senior executives and CEOs huge bonuses,” she stated.

Henry says the leadership style is putting bosses on a direct collision course with Generation Y.

“Gen Y just go ‘I’m not working for a boss like that’,” she said of the generation born between 1980 and 1995.

“Gen Y will leave a job without another job to go to even in the current environment.

“They will do a job with less money, not necessarily in the same industry they were in, or equating to what they’re qualified to do, to work in environment where they are happy and they feel valued, not only as employees but as human beings,” she said.

Many generation X-ers (born 1965 to 1979), now in management roles, see this as “entitlement mentality”, but Henry thinks it’s a positive backlash to “toxic” workplace conditions.

“I think that (attitude is) what’s going to change workplace culture,” Henry, who is also a trained accountant, said.

“We have too many workplaces which are toxic, by toxic I mean people aren’t valued.

“Every organisation says ‘people are our greatest asset’ – my immediate response to that is then why do most organisations treat their employees like liabilities?” she stated.

“Bosses who cop a pay cut or ask their staff for thrifty suggestions show they’re ‘willing to share the pain’,” she added. (ANI)

Jobcentre advertises for host for porn TV channel

London, Jul 7 (ANI): A jobcentre looking for a candidate to host a pornographic television channel has shocked many with its advertisement.

The advert for the position of ‘Adult TV Channel Presenter’ was on the Jobcentre Plus website, and it states that the successful candidate would be required to work ‘semi-nude’.

And also that the job ‘may cause embarrassment to some people’, although it pays 220 pounds per shift.

The winning applicant will work three days a week from 9pm until 5am, but will have no pension entitlement.

“Duties involve explicit sexual dialogue which may cause embarrassment to some people,” the Telegraph quoted the advert as reading.

“The successful applicant (will be) required to be semi-nude.

“Duties will involve working on a well known adult TV channel which may cause embarrassment to some people.

“Must have good spoken communication skills as will be taking calls from the general public live on air,” it stated.

The ad for the London-based job also states that applicants have to be aged over 18.

“There is no obligation to consider making an application for this vacancy,” it added.

A spokesman for Revolver Models, which placed the ad, said that applications had to go through the Jobcentre, but said the applicant did not have to send photos of themselves to the company.

“We are looking for a male or a female to take this role,” he said.

The firm’s website also states that ‘TV work is now available’, adding: “Do you love to perform in front of a TV camera? Are you looking for a well-paid job? Are you comfortable with nudity? If the answer is yes to all of the above then contact us for more details (no sex involved).”

Sophie Randall-Price, 25, who is looking for a job and saw the advert, was a little surprised.

“I couldn’t believe when I saw this,” she said.

“I’m broad-minded, but to think they want us to apply to such a sleazy job is really a bit too much.

“I’m willing to work hard, but I’m not willing to whip my top off and talk dirty to a bunch of weirdos in the middle of the night on national TV,” she added.

A spokesman for the Department for Work and Pensions said: “The Jobcentre Plus has a duty to advertise any legal job.” (ANI)

Awareness campaign by girl students in Patna

Patna, Mar 7 (ANI): Ahead of the International Women’s Day, the girl students on Saturday organised an awareness campaign to educate women about their rights.

International Women’s day is celebrated all over the world on March 8.

Girl Students held placards and banners to establish the equality of human beings irrespective of sex and other differences, and to secure women’s entitlement to fundamental human rights.

“A man and a woman are two sides of a coin and if women are not there, our future will be destroyed. We are trying to spread awareness that women need to be encouraged and all should try to help them to move forward in society. If one person takes a step forward then the whole world can help empower women,” said Shilpi Kumari, student, Patna Women’s college.

Another student Rupa Mohini believed that the growing incidence of female foeticide, infanticide and high rates of infant and maternal mortality demonstrate the survival of the girl child at stake.

“Our motive here was to create awareness among the women of our country who are being exploited everyday. Especially rural women have not deserved their rights. Their identity is at risk. Female foeticide, which is so common nowadays, is threatening the existence of women,” Rupa said.

Increasing incidence of dowry-related deaths and mental and physical torture of women by their husbands and parents-in-law was also highlighted by the students during their campaign. (ANI)

Jacko hit back by sued auction house

London, March 6 (ANI): An auction company sued by King of Pop Michael Jackson has hit back at him, claiming that the singer had permitted it to sell his personal belongings.

Julien’s Auction House was sued by Jackson in Los Angeles on March 4 over entitlement to retain possession of the latter’s “personal property”.

The company was planning to sell the gates to the Neverland Ranch in Santa Barbara, California, Jackson’s famous rhinestone gloves and socks, and the hands of Johnny Depp’s movie character Edward Scissorhands that the singer owned.

Lodging their complaint, Jackson’s lawyers claimed that the auction house had repeatedly refused to return the items, which were due to be put up for sale on 22 April.

However, the company has now refuted the claims.

Darren Julien, the owner of the company, insists that Jackson was aware of the plans to put his belongings on the auction block.

“As you can imagine we’re quite shocked by it because we’ve been working very closely with Mr Jackson and his manager over the last eight months,” the Daily Express quoted him as telling British TV show GMTV.

“We are an auction house – that’s all we do – so if he didn’t want the items to be sold we don’t understand why we were given possession of them in the first place,” he added.

Julien is sure that the situation is just a mix-up between the two sides, and that it can be resolved.

“We are trying to sort this out but we are confident it’s just a misunderstanding because, like I said, the last eight months we’ve worked closely with them on this whole project,” he said. (ANI)

Paris Hilton caught gate-crashing at Golden Globes after party

New York, Jan 15 (ANI): Hollywood socialite Paris Hilton was caught gate-crashing at the Golden Globe after party, and the more embarrassing fact was that she hid herself in a bathroom.

After she made her way into the party, CAA’s Kevin Huvane loudly demanded that she be shown the way out, as she was not invited.

“Kevin was outraged at her sense of entitlement, and he was adamant that she be removed,” the New York Daily News quoted a source, as saying.

“He was storming around, yelling ‘Who let her in? She is not invited, and somebody had better get her out of here immediately,’” the source added.

After hearing Huvane’s ranting, security lined up outside the bathroom where Hilton hid herself and 15 minutes later, the hotel heiress came out red-faced. (ANI)
