I snorted cocaine while on Coronation Street, admits Denise Welch

London, April 27 (ANI): English actress and TV presenter Denise Welch has admitted that she snorted cocaine on the sets of the ITV soap opera Coronation Street.

Welch revealed that she battled with the deadly drug habit during her time Coronation Street days.

She admitted that she snorted cocaine between takes and drove under drug”s influence.

The confession is mentioned in the 51-year-old actress” autobiography ”Pulling Myself Together”, reports The Daily Express.

Welch has blamed chronic depression for her drug habit.

“I”d reached a point where I felt taking cocaine was the only way I could survive. I was suffering crippling depression and I”d made myself believe coke was the only thing that could make me cope. In fact, I was locked in a vicious circle because the more I took, the worse the comedowns would be. I was sinking deeper and deeper,” Welch wrote in her autobiography.

The ”Loose Women” panellist said that her situation got so messed up that she used to leave her shooting set in Manchester to go and buy stuff.

“The risks I took were incredible. I was a total wreck,” said Welch. (ANI)

Gemma Arterton taking break from acting to marry boyfriend

London, April 17 (ANI): English actress Gemma Arterton is planning to take a break from acting so that she can marry her boyfriend Stefano.

Arterton is engaged to Italian stuntman who is only known by the name of Stefano, reports The Daily Express.

Stefano popped the question to the 24-year-old actress in the summer of 2009.

Arterton has admitted that they plan to get married in 2010.

“I don”t know what I”m going to do next. I”ve got a few months off – I”m getting married – but now I”m being more selective with what I”m going to do.” Arterton said.

“I always thought I was going to end up an old spinster, with my cats and my fur coats. It just takes you by surprise. It was absolutely instant. I remember going home the night after I met him and writing in my diary, ”I”ve met the man I”m going to marry”. I gave that diary entry to him for his birthday two weeks later. But it didn”t freak him out, because he was thinking the same thing. I just really want to spend the rest of my life with him. The Secret Diary of a Call Girl star wants to spend more time with her 17-month-old son Winston.

Joan Collins once snorted cocaine

London, March 27 (ANI): English actress Joan Collins has confessed that she once snorted cocaine but found it horrible.

The ‘Dynasty’ star, 76, insisted she is totally against the use of drugs.

She also referred to her third husband Ron Kass, the former chief of Apple records, who fought against cocaine.

“It’s extremely sad, anybody that ruins their life by drugs,” the Daily Express quoted her as telling Piers Morgan on ITV’s Life Stories.

She added: “I am so anti-drugs. I have never taken… Well, once somebody forced me to take some coke and it was just so horrible.”

The incident apparently occurred in the late 1960s at a nightclub in St Tropez.

Collins mentioned that she has always taken care of her body.

She said: “I’d rather just grow old gracefully, while fighting all the way. I have always, always, always used make-up and kept my face out of the sun since I was 20.” (ANI)

Carey Mulligan to play Eliza Doolittle in ‘My Fair Lady’ remake

London, Mar 26 (ANI): English actress Carey Mulligan is set to play Eliza Doolittle in a remake of the film ‘My Fair Lady’.

Mulligan, 24, will be following in the footsteps of late actress Audrey Hepburn, who had played the part of Doolittle in 1964.

Actress Emma Thompson, who wrote the script for the new version of the film, disclosed Mulligan’s involvement as she attended the premier of her latest Nanny McPhee film.

“I think Carey is set to play it, yes,” the Telegraph quoted her as telling BBC Five Live.

She also said that she was keen for actor Hugh Grant to play the role of Henry Higgins that had originally been performed by late actor Rex Harrison.

“I love Hugh so I’d love him to do it. He might want to, he might not want to, so we don’t know yet. But hopefully we’ll make it later this year,” Thompson added. (ANI)

I was not hot enough to be a Bond girl: Gemma Arterton

London, Mar 22 (ANI): English actress Gemma Arterton has revealed that she does not think she was hot enough to be a Bond girl.

Arterton, 24, who acted in ‘Quantum Of Solace’, told GQ magazine that she thought herself to be an “average” girl.

“In comparison to many actresses I think I’m really average – when I got the Bond film there was this big hoo-ha about me not being hot enough, I have to say I agree – I don’t think I’m in that realm,” the Mirror quoted her as saying.

The actress explained however that she might have had an advantage over the actresses.

“I think in a way it might have helped me along – there are some really beautiful actresses like (Bond co-star) Olga Kurylenko who find it difficult,” she said.

“It’s frustrating for her but she’s so beautiful that it’s like someone having a massive nose: you are going to take that into consideration when you’re casting her.

“Whereas I can change my look: I can look plain or I can be all dolled up,” she added. (ANI)

Lily Cole owes acting career to late Heath Ledger

Washington, Sept 2 (ANI): English actress Lily Cole insists that she owes her acting career to late actor Heath Ledger.

Cole said he taught her the tricks of the trade while they were filming ‘The Imaginarium Of Dr Parnassus’.

After a small role in Trinian’s movie, the 21-year-old actress was hired for Terry Gilliam’s fantasy epic, opposite Ledger and Christopher Plummer.

She calls Ledger “a great friend and mentor.”

“He definitely helped me,” Contactmusic quoted her as saying.

“From the beginning, he understood that I would be overwhelmed and scared by the size of the project. He encouraged me and said he was really proud of me, constantly fed me support,” she added.

Cole reveals she came close to giving up on the film when Ledger was found dead of a prescription drug overdose in January 2008.

His role was taken on by three other actors – Jude Law, Colin Farrell and Johnny Depp.

“Everyone loved Heath. For everyone who knew him, (his death) was devastating. The practicalities of continuing the production were difficult, but it seemed irrelevant,” she said.

“Johnny (Depp) slipped seamlessly into the role, but that didn’t stop it being bizarre. I thought I was in at the deep end in the beginning – then look what happened!” she added. (ANI)

Kate Winslet set to star in 1945 US TV mini-series ‘Mildred Pierce’?

London, Aug 20 (ANI): English actress Kate Winslet is reportedly set to star in a US TV mini-series of the 1945 film ‘Mildred Pierce’.

Winslet, 33, is said to be on the verge of signing up for the film, which landed screen legend Joan Crawford an Oscar.

“At 33, Kate would be young to play the mother of a late-teenage daughter but she would be great at nailing the compassion and the hard edges of the role,” the Daily Express quoted a film insider as saying.

Winslet’s last TV role was in 2005, playing a parody of herself in Ricky Gervais’s Extras. (ANI)

Myleene Klass steps up security in fear of peeping toms

London, July 14 (ANI): English actress Myleene Klass has had to step up security outside of her home after she became the target of peeping toms.

Klass, 31, feared being spied upon after it was reported that people were sneaking on to a golf course behind her 1.2million pounds house hoping for a glimpse of her through curtainless windows.

The patrols were stepped up after police were tipped off by a man who overheard a conversation between two members of the golf club in North London.olice surveillance has been increased around the area at night.

Sienna Miller loves to indulge her villainous side

Washington, Jun 27 (ANI): English actress Sienna Miller has revealed that she enjoyed her role as The Baroness in ‘GI Joe: The Rise of the Cobra’ because it gave her a chance to indulge her villainous side.

Miller, 27, found the script to be to her liking, and enjoyed playing what she has called as “a proper villain”.

“The script was brilliant, the role was brilliant. She’s a proper villain!” Contactmusic quoted her as saying.

Miller also revealed that she had almost lost the role because director Stephen Sommers initially thought that she was not tall enough for the part.

Kate Winslet stuns pupils at her old stage school with surprise visit

London, Jun 27 (ANI): English actress Kate Winslet reportedly stunned pupils at her old stage school when she turned up for a rehearsal session.

The students had no idea that Winslet, 33, was there until stage curtains were drawn back at Blessed Hugh Faringdon School, Southcote, Reading.

“Don’t be shy because I am very normal. Ask me questions, anything you like,” the Sun quoted her as saying.

The actress, who is a patron of Berkshire-based amateur dramatic group Starmaker, answered questions from budding actors and actresses before taking part in a drama workshop.

The ‘Titanic’ star then went on to give acting tips to the actors on how to overcome first night nerves.

“When the lights come on you’re so blinded you can’t see the audience. So you don’t have to be nervous at all,” she said.

She watched rehearsals for productions of Boogie Nights and Wizard of Oz, before taking part in a workshop with Jack Kowalik, 15.

“I was so starstruck because she was acting right next to me, and I was thinking: ‘What if I do something really bad’?” Kowalik said. (ANI)

New Delhi, June 22 (ANI): If sources are to be believed, Scarlett Johansson is being considered for the lead role in ‘The Bride of Frankenstein’ remake.

The project, based on the 1935 horror classic, will be directed by Neil Burger, reports the China Daily.

And the 24-year-old actress is tipped to portray a sexier version of the terrifying female monster in the updated version.

“The Bride of Frankenstein will be young this time. They’re looking for a person with great power and sex appeal. Someone along the lines of Scarlett Johansson or Anne Hathaway,” a source said.

London, May 16 (ANI): English actress Anna Friel has revealed that she is very delighted to have been given a role in West End production of Breakfast At Tiffany’s.

Friel, 32, who is famed for her role as Beth Jordache in Brookside, will be playing the naive socialite in a production in London this September.

“Truman Capote’s Breakfast At Tiffany’s has always been one of my favourite novels,” the Sun quoted her as saying.

“I am delighted to have been given both the opportunity to play one of my all time favourite heroines, Holly Golightly, and to be returning home to the London stage,” she added.

Audrey Hepburn had previously played the role in 1961, in the film adaptation of Truman Capote’s 1958 novella of the same name. (ANI)

London, May 10 (ANI): English actress Denise Van Outen has revealed that she plans on waiting to have children with her hubby because of the credit crunch.

Outen, 34, had married Lee Mead, 27, winner of TV’s ‘Any Dream Will Do’, at a secret ceremony in the Seychelles last month.

And even though she has earned millions from her TV and radio career, and owns two homes in England and one in Los Angeles, she still wants to put motherhood on hold.

Sienna Miller wanted for role of blind Oxford University don

London, May 10 (ANI): English actress Sienna Miller is reportedly set to be offered the role of a blind Oxford University don.

Miller, 27, is being seen as the perfect choice by Shamim Sarif, the screenwriter of the film ‘Dreaming Spires’, for the role of a don who is blinded during the Second World War.

“We need an English rose type,” the Telegraph quoted her as saying at the premiere of her film ‘The World Unseen’, at Bafta in Piccadilly.

“I would love it if Sienna could play the role of the professor. That would be fantastic,” she added.

‘Dreaming Spires’, which is due to go into production later this year, is about a professor who returns to Oxford after the war and falls in love with a male American student.

The film will be the first non-Sapphic love story by Sarif, who has a son with her civil partner, Hanan Kattan.

Asked whether she had an actor in mind for the male lead, she laughed.
