Hannover Attendees First to View New Bal Seal Energy Animation
HANNOVER, Germany–(Business Wire)–
Visitors to the Hannover Fair, running April 19-23, 2010, will have an exclusive
opportunity to view a new technical animation produced by Bal Seal Engineering,
Inc.
The sequence, just over two minutes in length, was developed by Bal Seal to
demonstrate the performance of its sealing, connecting and conducting solutions.
An integral part of the company`s exhibit at Hannover`s Energy Pavilion, the
animation will be displayed on a large plasma screen, giving attendees a unique
perspective on the use of Bal Seal Spring-Energized seals and Canted-coil spring
elements in alternative energy equipment.
“We wanted to give equipment design engineers and other visitors a no-nonsense
illustration of how our products work,” Bal Seal Market Manager Roland Reichert
explained. “Animation lets us accomplish this in a way no other kind of media
can. For instance, by watching the part that depicts our seal`s function in a
pitch drive gear assembly on a wind turbine, you can experience a view of the
working seal that would otherwise be impossible to see during operation.”
In the slip ring assembly segment, the most technically comprehensive part of
the animation, the viewer is transported through the nacelle of a wind turbine
and into a photorealistic generator. As the segment progresses, the rotating
slip ring assembly slows, and the unit cuts away to show a set of Canted-coil
springs providing multi-point electrical contact and compensating for
misalignment caused by thermal expansion.
Other segments of the animation illustrate the performance of Canted-coil
springs in electrical connectors used along the interior of the wind turbine
tower, and in solar panel connectors that perform both conducting and mechanical
latching functions.
Although Bal Seal will officially unveil the new animation at its exhibit in the
Energy Pavilion at Hannover (Halle 12, Stand B76), this isn`t the first time the
company has used the medium to illustrate how its products work in technical
applications. Examples of other animations, including those developed for the
medical electronics and automotive industries, can be viewed at

No FDI in N-power sector: Dr. Kakodkar
New Delhi, Aug 19 (ANI): The Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) Chairman Dr. Anil Kakodkar has ruled out allowing foreign direct investment (FDI) for establishing nuclear power stations in the country.
In an interview to a web portal Asiannuclearpower.com Kakodkar, however said there are no restrictions for the private sector to carry out manufacturing of equipments required for the nuclear power plants.
He said the country is emerging as a global hub of nuclear energy equipment manufacturing, technology trade and commerce.
Kakodkar played a crucial role of negotiator for the Indo-US civilian nuclear energy agreement, culminating in the lifting of the 34-year-long ban on India by the Nuclear Suppliers’ Group (NSG).
Kakodkar also clarified that the Indian Government can have a partnership with the private companies in the construction of N plants.
He expressed confidence that country’s capability to independently build small sized Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs) will have a considerable demand in the future, especially from the developing countries.
The evolution of indigenous design and building of thorium-based Fast Breeder Reactors (FBR) by the Indian technocrats would make the country as a global technological leader in the field of N- power in near future, Kakodkar said.
He revealed that the Central Government is holding negotiations with France, Russia and USA for setting up of nuclear parks in various parts of the country and said each park is expected to locate six to eight reactors, which can produce around 1,000 to 1,650 Mega Watt of power.
At present 17 nuclear power plants are operating in the country, generating 4120 Mega Watt of power every year. The government is planning to increase the production of N- power to 10,000 Mega Watt by 2020.
India’s capabilities in nuclear energy could also provide enhanced export opportunity for the domestic manufacturing sector to tap emerging markets in nuclear business across the globe, Kakodkar said. (ANI)
