“I love a dirty martini. I used to make my dad his drinks when I was about six!” the Sun quoted her as saying.

She also revealed that she has been cooking “seriously” for 15 years. (ANI)

Now, chocolate bar that keeps wrinkles at bay

London, May 21 (ANI): Good news for chocolate lovers: A new kind of chocolate has been created that apparently slows the ageing process and fights wrinkles.

Made by the world”s largest chocolate manufacturer, Acticoa is packed with natural antioxidants, which can protect the skin from damage by harmful free radicals.

Studies have shown that just 20g a day of the chocolate could help prevent wrinkles by hydrating the skin and improving elasticity.

The time-defying bars, drinks and buttons are the brainchild of chocolatiers at Barry Callebaut, whose 7,500 strong workforce in 26 countries make 3- billion-pound worth of chocolate each year, supplying household names like Cadbury and Thorntons.

“Chocolate and health do not seem to fit together but it is a very interesting proposition: if I can eat something I like and it is good for me, that is great. Chocolate is probably at the bottom of the list when you think about making food healthier,” the Telegraph quoted Harry Vriens, of Barry Callebaut, as saying. (ANI)

Average woman dates dozen men, spends over $2K before finding Mr Right

Wellington, May 10 (ANI): An average woman would date dozens of men and shell out thousands of dollars before finding her Mr Right, according to a Kiwi dating expert.

A survey by a British dating site found the average woman goes out with two dozen men and spends more than 2000 pounds before finding that special someone.

But Verity Molloy, owner of Auckland”s Speed Date, claimed that these results are conservative.

Molloy, 37, said that a woman on the prowl for a lengthy period could date “at least” that many suitors.

And Molloy said that she could easily spend 440 dollars to look her best for one of her company”s singles events, although she wouldn”t spend that much for every date.

This could include 40 dollars for a spray tan, 60 dollars for hair, up to 100 dollars on an outfit, 40 dollars for accessories, 100 dollars for taxis and another 100 dollars for drinks.

“Everybody”s different but 4200 dollars is not excessive at all,” the New Zealand Herald quoted her as saying.

The British survey of 2173 women found 7 per cent went on between 41 and 60 dates before finding someone and 1per cent had up to 80.

Sasha Madarasz, dating agent and owner of Auckland matchmaking agency Two”s Company, says most Kiwi women might have between one and five “matches” before finding a relationship, and may go on two or three dates with each person.

She said it was hard to pin down how much money her clients might spend, but suggested women would spend “thousands” making themselves look good.

“If you go on first dates with four men you can wear the same outfit and save money, but if you”re going on three, four, five dates with the same man you”ll want a new outfit each time,” she added. (ANI)

Average Brit spends £39,480 in a lifetime getting beers in for mates!

London, May 8(ANI): The average Brit spends 39,480 pounds in a lifetime buying drinks for friends and workmates, a survey has revealed.

That means UK as a nation spends 30 billion pounds a year on beer rounds.

The men, however, take the cake. The survey by www.OnePoll.com revealed nearly a quarter of men go out twice a week, and buy rounds in groups of five. That equates to around 200 pounds a month.

“Buying rounds is a way of life in Britain and these results show us to be a very generous nation. The cost adds up and over their lifetime it amounts to a sizeable piece of their disposable income,” The Sun quoted a spokesman for the website, as saying.

The figures were calculated on a span of 47 years from age 18 to 65. (ANI)

Cheryl Cole’s mum gives will.i.am stamp of approval

London, May 7 (ANI): Girls Aloud member Cheryl Cole has taken her friendship with Black Eyed Peas rapper will.i.am to another level – by introducing him to her mother who gave him her approval.

will.i.am, 35, met Joan, 50, on May 5 for drinks after Cheryl, 26, supported the Black Eyed Peas at London’s O2 Arena.

The meeting between the three went so well that the rapper promised Joan he will take care of Cheryl, and he also praised the way she has been brought up.

“Joan is a great lady. You can see why Cheryl is such a good girl, she gets it from her mum,” the Sun quoted him as saying.

“Cheryl’s mum is behind our friendship.

“I think anybody that will look after her little girl and protect her – after the last few months she has had – is only a good thing in her mum’s eyes.

“The most important thing for Cheryl at the moment is to have a man around her who she can trust and who makes her laugh. I promised mum that’s what I’m doing.

“We couldn’t ask for a better supporting act than Cheryl, the crowd absolutely love her and she really is a princess in the British peoples’ eyes.

“I am having a great time working with her, but I already knew that I would anyway. We are having a great time during the show, but also a great time after,” he added.

Will, who worked with Cheryl on her debut solo album 3 Words, has made no secret of his feelings for the Girls Aloud star.

“Cheryl turned up with her mum after Will had arrived,” an onlooker at the Bacardi VIP bar said.

“He spent some time talking to Joan, who came to watch her perform.

“She obviously got on with Will, so she seems to approve of the friendship,” the onlooker stated. (ANI)

Unseen Beatles photos go on display

London, April 28 (ANI): A collection of unseen photos of The Beatles just before they rose to fame is to go on display.

The 37 shots of the Fab Four on a tour with Helen Shapiro in 1963 were unearthed after languishing in an attic for almost 50 years.

Photographer/journalist Paul Berriff discovered the pics at his home in north England.

“I started to root around in my attic and I found this box of about 800 negs (negatives), and in it were shots of these old pop groups in ”63. I was absolutely knocked out when I saw the quality and realised I should do something with them,” the Daily Express quoted Berriff as saying.

Berriff took the pics after the boy band gave him unlimited access on tour when he was a teenage snapper – just months before Beatlemania gripped the world.

The photog had stored the negatives at his home, along with hundreds of other images of musicians in the 1960s.

The photos, which chronicle the band members rehearsing onstage, smoking in their dressing room, and relaxing with drinks and snacks backstage, will go on display at London”s Menier Gallery on Apr 28, (10). (ANI)

Coote powers Panthers to easy win

All eyes may have been on the other number one, but Panthers full-back Lachlan Coote stole the show as Penrith surged to a 28-6 NRL win over the Sydney Roosters at Penrith Stadium.

Coote scored one try and set up another in spectacular fashion just before half-time when he reeled in a Luke Walsh bomb and flicked out a miraculous pass in one movement for Adrian Purtell to make it 16-0 at the break.

Walsh’s boot contributed to three of the five tries the Panthers scored, with Roosters full-back Todd Carney and his wing partners given a thorough test under the high ball.

It was Carney’s least influential performance since his off-season move to the club, but he was not on his own as the Roosters slumped to their second loss of the season.

Panthers coach Matt Elliott labelled Coote a “freak”.

“I’ve been telling everyone who wants to listen he’s a freak – you just saw some of the stuff that he can do,” Elliott said of his young charge,” he said.

“Unfortunately you guys don’t see him at training when we play skills games – some of the stuff he does there is just ridiculous. That was part of the ridiculous repertoire that you saw just before half-time.

“I’m not sure how you compete for a ball with it is going over your head in the same direction and leap over people.

“He’s got more to offer than you’ve seen … his full game’s not quite there but we’re pretty content with what he’s doing at the moment.”

Just as they did in their round three encounter against the Canterbury, the Roosters looked off the pace and it was almost a surprise when Mitchell Aubusson found a way through a Panthers defence that looked like it was still enjoying the mandatory drinks break just after the hour-mark.

That left the Roosters trailing 22-6, but they soon returned to their clueless and error-riddled ways as Luke Lewis put the result beyond doubt when he popped a ball for Michael Gordon to score seven minutes from full-time.

A Walsh high ball brought about the opening try with Sam Perrett fumbling the ball into the hands of Joseph Paulo, who could not believe his luck as he fell over to make it 4-0 after eight minutes.

Michael Jennings did it all on is own to push the lead out to 10 before Coote’s piece of brilliance put the home side well on top.

Walsh again turned provider after the break when he grubbered for Coote to pounce, the Panthers custodian beating Mitchell Pearce to the rolling ball to make it 22-0.

Coote, who missed large portions of the past two seasons with serious knee and shoulder injuries, said he was gaining in the confidence brought about by an injury-free run and an extra nine-and-a-half kilos on his small frame.

“I’m feeling really good, I’ve put on a little bit of weight and I’m not getting rag-dolled as I did last year,” the full-back said.

“It was probably the most satisfying (performance) so far – obviously I haven’t played much football the last couple of years.”

Question marks continue to surround the Roosters following their round three capitulation at the hands of the Bulldogs, with a win over the cellar-dwelling Broncos their only joy since.

Penrith in contrast has enjoyed three classy victories with two narrow away defeats coming in Townsville and Melbourne.

Its next task is a tough Sunday visit to Auckland, while the Roosters host Canberra on Saturday evening.

Panthers: 28 (L Coote, M Gordon, M Jennings, J Paulo, A Purtell tries; M Gordon 4 goals)

Roosters: 6 (M Aubusson try; T Carney goal)

K-Fed says divorce from Britney made him fat

London, March 31 (ANI): Kevin Federline blames his divorce from pop star Britney Spears as the reason behind his weight gain.

The former dancer, who recently appeared on Celebrity FIT club in the US, says the end of his two-year marriage to the singer plunged him into depression, turning him into a couch potato, reports the Sun.

However, Federline admits there may be another reason. He was drinking up to 24 cans of full-sugar fizzy drinks a day.

He told chat show host Bonnie Hunt: “I didn”t drink water, that was all I drank. That was my coffee and my candy.”

K-Fed admits spending days on the couch eating pizza and Macaroni cheese, his only exercise being playing with his young kids.

He added: “I hit 30-years-old, I stop dancing, started eating and sitting on the couch playing with the kids here and there. I got lazier and lazier, and fatter and fatter.” (ANI)

Patient’s daughter testifies at Patel trial

The daughter of a man who died after undergoing surgery by Jayant Patel has testified at the doctor’s manslaughter trial in Brisbane.

Patel, 59, the former chief of surgery at Bundaberg hospital, has pleaded not guilty to unlawfully killing three patients and causing grievous bodily harm to a fourth.

One of his alleged victims was Mervyn Morris, 75, who died three weeks after surgery in 2003 from a combination of factors including malnutrition.

His daughter Vicki Whitfield has testified at Patel’s Supreme Court trial about her father’s deteriorating health after the operation.

Ms Whitfield told the court she spoke to Patel about his plan to perform the major bowel operation.

“I asked him if he could possibly be bleeding from anywhere else, maybe the liver? He said ‘no’,” she said.

“He wanted to do a bowel resection. We thought that was pretty dramatic.

“We asked if that would stop the bleeding and he said ‘yes’.”

Patel allegedly told Ms Whitfield her father would be out of hospital in a week.

Instead, Mr Morris died an undignified death three weeks later, vomiting faeces that were aspirated into his lungs in his final hours.

Ms Whitfield told the court her father had been unable to eat after the operation, so she had asked Patel if she could bring him energy-rich drinks.

But he got worse, so she said she made another suggestion to Patel.

“We asked him, ‘could he have a feed tube?’ He couldn’t drink the Sustagen, he was really struggling,” she said.

She told the court, Patel agreed about the feeding tube.

“Dr Patel also said that he thought Dad would have been better by now,” she said.

“He thought he would have been over it in a couple of days but because of his age he wasn’t coping with it very well.”

The court has heard that along with the operation itself, poor post-operative nutrition was also listed on Mr Morris’s death certificate as a causal factor.

But Ms Whitfield told the court that when she raised concerns that her father’s feeding tube was not working properly, Patel pulled it out of his nose a bit and was optimistic it would be OK.

On the morning her father died, Ms Whitfield told the court: “I asked Dr Patel, ‘how come it’s got to this point that my father is in the ICU?’

“‘[He] looks like he’s dying, how did it get this bad?’”

She said Patel replied: “When I was putting the tube down, your father was vomiting, so he would have got some into his lungs. But we’ve given him some medication to fix that.”

The prosecution says Patel performed unnecessary and negligent surgery at a hospital not equipped to handle such major operations.

The trial has heard x-ray services were so lacking at the hospital that some reports were not available until after one of Patel’s patients had died.

Dr Emma Igras worked under Patel at the hospital in 2003.

Under cross-examination this morning from Patel’s counsel, Dr Igras told the court that during her time at the hospital, radiology services were “absent at times, delayed often”.

The court was shown a number of x-ray documents that showed there were long delays before doctors received reports from radiologists about their patients’ diagnostic x-ray pictures.

In one instance it was more than two months.

The court has also heard that Patel had restrictions placed on his licence in the US because of gross negligence, but staff at Bundaberg were unaware of this.

Patel has been quiet throughout the trial.

He enters court each morning holding his wife’s hand and does not respond to any questions from reporters.

The trial continues.

Booze-fuelled violence on the rise

International alcohol experts say Australia has one of the strongest correlations in the world between violence and drinking.

Melbourne hosted an international conference this week, with experts exploring the relationship between drinking and violence.

The director of the AER Centre for Alcohol Policy Research, Professor Robin Room, will present the main findings from the conference today.

He says on a world-scale, Australia’s alcohol-fuelled violence problem is quite serious.

“If you get enough people in one place, particularly in Australia on a Friday or Saturday night, and with a few drinks in them there’s a fair amount of violence,” he said.

He says there are clear signs drunken violence is increasing.

“Some of the indicators are in fact going up. In the last 10 years the amount of drinking overall doesn’t seem to have changed very much,” he said.

“But the trouble is that [the level of drinking] seems to be going up and that may well be that there’s a kind of increase in the extreme – people that are really getting smacked out of their minds.”

Sean Combs dubs himself ‘Ciroc Obama’ over vodka promotion

New York, March 20 (ANI): In a not-so-classy move, Sean Combs urged people to buy his favourite brand of vodka – after reportedly comparing other drinks to ‘pee’.

The hip-hop mogul, the celebrity ambassador for Ciroc vodka, was said to have encouraged guests at Greenhouse to try the label.

According to a source, the 40-year-old rapper went on to refer himself “Ciroc Obama”, the New York Post reported.

He reportedly said: “If you”re not drinking Ciroc vodka, then you”re drinking pee pee.”

Combs holds a multiyear strategic partnership worth up to 100 million dollars with Ciroc and apparently receives a 50 percent share of profits, it was said. (ANI)

‘Dirty tricks’ on drinks bill: Foley

Treasurer Kevin Foley has accused the Liberals of dirty tricks just two days out from the South Australian election.

Mr Foley has been forced to defend taxpayer-funded expenses on overseas trips, in particular a visit to New York two years ago.

He said on Wednesday that a drinks bill at a New York bar was charged partly to taxpayers because he was buying his staff drinks after hard day’s work.

But the Liberals say the itinerary shows there was no official business that day.

The Treasurer insists all his expenses have been properly documented.

“It’s just a grubby attempt before the election for the Liberal Party to attempt to cause embarrassment to me and it just doesn’t warrant further comment,” he said.

Liberal finance spokesman Rob Lucas says Mr Foley clearly got it wrong.

“When Kevin Foley says that it’s a dirty trick and that it doesn’t warrant further comment, it’s a pretty fair indication that the Treasurer’s been caught out,” he said.

Liquor laws ‘putting Newcastle pubs out of business’

The Australian Hotels Association (AHA) says Newcastle’s entertainment industry is being put out of business by tough liquor licensing laws.

In 2008, 14 Newcastle hotels were hit with 1:00am lockouts, early closing and restrictions on the number of drinks sold.

Since then, nine of the hotels have gone into receivership and been sold.

Sally Fielke from the AHA says that if the measures are introduced statewide, it will have a devastating effect on the New South Wales economy.

“It wiped off $22 million-odd in value to these hotels but probably more importantly it caused a reduction in employment of almost 25 per cent across the board in this industry,” she said.

“For Newcastle [this] is devastating and to flow that on potentially across the state would just have dire consequences.”

However, the New South Wales Police Association has rejected the claim that the hotels are being put out of business by the laws.

Its Secretary Peter Remfrey says the restrictions are fairly moderate, and it is unlikely that they are responsible for sending the pubs broke.

“These sorts of changes are reducing trading hours from five am to three am, so they’re very modest changes to trading hours,” he said.

“It doesn’t add up to us that that’s the reason for these pubs going broke.

“Contrast [this] of course with the report from the New South Wales Bureau of Crime that proves beyond doubt that the measures introduced in Newcastle have made a significant impact on alcohol-related violence.”

Jessica Simpson drinks cow pee in India!

London, Mar 5 (ANI): Jessica Simpson drank cow urine while visiting India for her new show ”The Price Of Beauty”.

The singer travels the world searching for beauty secrets, as part of the show.

Simpson was offered a bottle labelled Distilled Cow Urine, as it is apparently a “detoxifying” drink, reports the Daily Star.

Shocked, Simpson asked: “Like pee? Cow urine?” (ANI)

Spice Girls meet for boozy reunion in London

London, Sep 18 (ANI): The Spice Girls had a boozy reunion on Wednesday, when they met up for a night of dinner and drinks in London.

Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton, Melanie Brown, and Melanie Chisholm had dinner at the Palm restaurant in the British capital, and finally headed to the May Fair Hotel for drinks.

However, fifth bandmember Victoria Beckham was absent at the rendezvous, as she is currently in Los Angeles.

However, the rest of the girl gang still had plenty to discuss in their first meeting since Chisholm became a mother to daughter Scarlet in February.

“I went out with the Spice Girls last night. It was really nice. We had steak and chips and some wine. Victoria wasn’t there but we were emailing her. The rest of us all swapped baby stories!” the Daily Star quoted Brown as saying. (ANI)

Katie Price ‘sent love messages to Peter Andre just 2 weeks before divorce’

London, September 12 (ANI): Katie Price sent love messages to her Peter Andre just two weeks before they were divorced, it has emerged.

She apparently requested the ‘Mysterious Girl’ hitmaker to give their love another chance.

The messages reportedly read: “Pete, you were my fairtytale,” and: “I still love you – give us another chance. x.” Another was: “Why can’t it go back to how it used to be – you, me, J, P and H?”

The initials refer to the couple’s children Junior, four, and Princess, two, and Harvey, seven, Katie’s son from her relationship with footballer Dwight Yorke.

Price sent the messages to the Aussie singer after talking to him for the first time in weeks.

However, according to sources, Andre is still angry with Price.

“Pete was angered and hurt by the lies Katie was spreading about him in various TV and magazine interviews,” the Mirror quoted a source as saying.

The insider added: “She claimed that he had a girlfriend, which is utter rubbish, and implied that he was not over her. Again this is total nonsense.

“Kate must still have feelings by behaving the way she’s been acting. From the timing of the text it seemed as if Katie was alone and had possibly had a couple of drinks.”

Price’s act may also hamper her relationship with her current boyfriend Alex Reid.

The source said: “There is no way she would be sending those kind of messages with Alex in the room with her and I doubt that he’ll be pleased.

“Pete has remained 100 percent faithful and celibate since the split and is completely over Kate.

“He would never go back. And contrary to reports, he does not hate her. Pete simply wants the pair to get on and be civil for the sake of their children.”

The couple secured the first stage of their divorce – a decree nisi, in 42 seconds last week. (ANI)

Brit drinkers splash £39,480 on drinks for friends!

London, Sept 4 (ANI): British drinkers splash out an average of 39,480 pounds buying rounds for their friends over a lifetime, according to a new survey.

The study involving 4000 Britons adults revealed that they spend around 840 pounds a year on drinks for their friends, partners and work colleagues.

It also showed that an average Briton goes out socialising to bars, pubs and restaurants three times a month, despite the ongoing credit crisis.

About a quarter of men go out twice a week, and buy rounds in groups of five – which equates to 200 pounds a month.

They are likely to spend over 13 pounds on one round alone, and on average will buy 1.8 rounds in an evening out,

“Buying rounds is a way of life in Britain and these results show us to be a very generous nation,” the Telegraph quoted a spokesman for OnePoll, which conducted the survey as saying.

“The cost of buying a round soon adds up and over their lifetime it amounts to a sizeable piece of their disposable income,” he added. (ANI)

Becks ‘makes his kids watch BBC to retain Brit heritage’!

London, Sep 2 (ANI): Brit footballer David Beckham is said to be so keen to make his kids retain their British roots that he has resorted to making them watch the BBC at home in Los Angeles.

Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz prefer to watch American cartoon networks, but their dad told pal Gordon Ramsay that he makes them watch BBC to keep them connected to their country of birth.

“After the LA Galaxy match Gordon, Victoria and David went for drinks on Sunset Boulevard,” the Sun quoted a source as saying.

“They were in high spirits and David used the occasion to tell Gordon that he makes his lads watch BBC America at home.

“However, Ramsay’s Channel 4 shows Kitchen Nightmares and The F-Word are often aired on BBC America, which means he has to swiftly switch over to avoid the fruity language.

“David was explaining that he wants his kids to appreciate their British heritage and its language and thinks watching BBC America will keep them connected to their country of birth,” the source added. (ANI)
