After the pub brawl, cricketers crawl

Mumbai, May 26 (IANS) Six Indian cricketers Wednesday apologised to the Indian cricket board for their involvement in a pub brawl in St.Lucia, West Indies, after the team’s exit from the World Twenty20.

Ravindra Jadeja and Rohit Sharma e-mailed their apology to Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary N.Srinivasan while Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra and Piyush Chawla met a senior board official and said that in future they would restrain themeselves from involving in any such incident.

In an e-mail to the BCCI secretary, Jadeja wrote: ‘I very much regret that the board has to send me a notice for the incident in the West Indies, and please accept my apology. I beg to inform you that I had gone to the restaurant (pub) for dinner along with other Indian team members. Some other guests which I presume were (of) Indian origin of USA also come to the restaurant and on seeing us they started abusing us, this may be because they were unhappy with our poor performance. We requested them not to abuse us but they did not stop despite of our repeated request. No way I was involved in any ugly brawl and I went to the pub only to have dinner with my teammates.’

Jadeja added: ‘If the board still thinks that I have brought any disrespect to the game of cricket or our board and our country, I once again sincerely tender my unconditional apology and assure you that I will take care that in future no way my name will be involved in any such incident.’

England stars need to be at their best to win World Cup: Le Saux

London, May 21(ANI): Former England footballer Graeme Le Saux claims that every single member of the Three Lions’ squad will have to be at their best to win the World Cup.

“We’ve got a fantastic manager and some great players, so we just have to hope the whole squad combines and gels. It’s important that the players on the fringes of the first XI are in the right frame of mind to put in great performances when needed,” The Sun quoted Le Saux, as saying.

“If we’re going to be successful in South Africa, it’s clearly going to be about the squad and not just the regulars. I don’t think you can rely on one player,” he added.

The 41-year-old also believes that striker Wayne Rooney could be the difference, but Capello would not win matches without a system and a game plan.

“If it’s just about Rooney, then we won’t achieve anything — and that’s with no disrespect to him, quite the opposite in fact. He’s a key part of how we attack and score goals, but ultimately we’re going to need other players to chip in,” Le Saux said.

“And that in a sense is exactly what we have in the rest of the squad with the likes of Lampard and Gerrard. If you look at the other top teams, they all have great players, but there’s a fantastic team and structure around them,” he added. (ANI)

Prince William to stamp out cheating, on pitch violence from football

London, May 16 (ANI): Prince William, who is president of the Football Association, is determined to stamp out cheating and on-pitch violence from the game.

Recent incidents in which players have been accused of unsporting behaviour include the French goal which knocked Ireland out of this year’s World Cup finals, scored after what Thierry Henry later admitted was a handball by him which the referee failed to spot.

Speaking at the Respect and Fair Play Awards ceremony ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup final, he said that sport reflected both the good and bad in the modern world.

“For all its benefits, when aggression becomes brutality, when passion becomes disrespect for opponents, when the rules of the game and the principles of sportsmanship become obstacles to be bulldozed, sport can become detrimental to the individual and society.

“Whilst I remain president of the FA, promoting sportsmanship and stamping out the deplorable scenes that have blighted our game in the past will be my goal,” The Tegraph quoted Williams, as saying.

The prince described football as the greatest game on earth.

Prince William, an Aston Villa fan, “Unfashionable as the word may sound, sportsmanship underpins everything good and worthwhile about our national game.

“What is so important about these Respect and Fair Play Awards is that they acknowledge and reward those who play fair and encourage fair play – true sportsmen and women,” The Tegraph quoted Williams, as saying. (ANI)

Danny Glover slammed for not saluting flag at Utah State University”s graduation ceremony

New York, May 10 (ANI): Danny Glover earned the wrath of some members of the audience when he did not salute the flag at Utah State University”s graduation ceremony.

“Put your hand above your heart, Glover!” the New York Daily News quoted a spectator, as shouting during the presentation of the Stars and Stripes.

However, Glover was quick to point out that he meant no disrespect.

He said: “I was listening to the national anthem and paying attention.

“I probably wasn”t the only one in there who didn”t put a hand over their heart.”

He added: “People have problems sometimes with what I believe and who I talk to.

“I try to respect people, honor them.” (ANI)

”I”m not just a bad-tempered diva”, insists Naomi Campbell

Washington, May 4 (ANI): Naomi Campbell has claimed that she is not just a “petulant diva”, and only gets angry when people she trusts let her down.

The supermodel has had to address her anger issues professionally after a series of well-publicised outbursts.

The catwalk queen was punished for attacking airline staff on a British Airways flight.

She also pleaded guilty to a charge of reckless assault against her employee Ana Scolavino, and was sentenced to five days community service in New York and ordered to attend two days of anger management classes in January 2007.

And now Campbell insists that she has calmed down since and learned to understand where her rage comes from.

In a candid interview with US talk show queen Oprah Winfrey, Campbell explained that she often sees “red” when those close to her disrespect her and then she sees “nothing” as anger takes over.

She told Winfrey she”s not just a bad-tempered diva.

“It comes from a deeper place than that with me. It comes from another type of emotional disorder because it”s not just, if I don”t get what I want I throw… It comes from, I think, an abandonment issue and it comes from also trying to just build up a family around me that”s not my immediate family and if I feel a mistrust, then… all my cards go down,” Contactmusic quoted her as saying.

“I think it”s also a fear issue because anger comes from fear… It”s not an excuse, I don”t have an excuse for my behaviour… I”ve taken that it”s wrong,” she added. (ANI)

Ex-King Gyanendra”s statement on monarchy a daydream, say Nepali leaders

Kathmandu, Mar 25 (ANI): Most Nepali leaders have described a recent statement by former Nepal monarch King Gyanendra that “the monarchy hasn”t completely ended” as a daydream.

Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal said on Thursday: “It is only a day dream to say that the monarchy still exists in the country. So, the meeting did not discuss about his remarks.

Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party (TMLP) Chairman Mahantha Thakur expressed surprise over the former king”s remark and joked that the former king might have made such remarks in delusion.

Meanwhile, UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha claimed that the latest statement by former King Gyanendra has made it clear that counter revolutionaries are conspiring in the country.

“The deposed king gave his recent statement with the support from counter revolutionary forces, Kantipur quoted him as saying.

He remarked that yesterday”s statement of the ex-monarch that the monarchy could resurrect is an audacious attempt to disrespect the people.

Former king in an interview with a private television channel on Wednesday aid it is hypothetical to say that the monarchy has been abolished in the country.

The former king said that he does not think that the monarchy has ended. “While turning the pages of the country”s history, there are ups and downs..,” he said, adding that people will decide considering this and (all should) take this up.

In February 2005, Gyanendra Shah sacked Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and started ruling directly.

Following the royal takeover, the seven major political parties formed a broader alliance and joined hands with the rebels Maoists signing a 12-point understanding which paved way for the 2006 April movement (Janandolan II ) that eventually pulled down monarchy and carved out Constituent Assembly polls.

‘Disrespectful’ Jack Tweed delays Jade Goody memorial service

London, March 22 (ANI): Jade Goody’s widower Jack Tweed reportedly showed disrespect after arriving at the star’s memorial service in London more than half an hour late.

The former jailbird’s late arrival allegedly led to the entire ceremony, to mark the first anniversary of the reality star’s death, be delayed.

The 22-year-old, dressed in scruffy jeans, sunglasses and a cardigan, also stayed away from his late wife’s grave during the official unveiling of her new headstone, The Daily Star reported.

Jack’s spokesman said: “Jack was picked up by one of the bridesmaids and claims they were 10 minutes late because they had a long way to come through a lot of traffic.

“He was planning to go to the grave last night but didn’t want to do it when everyone was still there.”

Pornographer Steve Crow to go on with Boobs on Bike parade despite protests

Wellington, Mar 20 (ANI): Pornographer Steve Crow is going ahead with his Erotica Expo and Boobs on Bike parade in Palmerston North over Anzac Weekend, despite protests.

While people have raised voices against sharing the time of remembrance with porn stars, sex toys and naked bikers, Crow is adamant that the event would be held in its full glory.

Parades will be held on Levin”s Oxford St and Whanganui”s London St and Victoria Ave before heading to The Square in Palmerston North.

Apart from calling Whanganui mayor Michael Laws, Crow said he would not be contacting local authorities.

“We just do it. If you ask people for permission you just get bogged down and it all gets too difficult. It”s a freedom-of-expression type of thing,” Stuff.co.nz quoted Crow as saying.

While residents were unhappy with the expo being held over Anzac Weekend, Crow said it was a matter of necessity, rather than choice.

“The Palmerston North Convention Centre was not available at any other time. That was the only weekend we could get it,” he said.

“I would never in a million years disrespect Anzac Day because [it] was the biggest day of the year for my father. My brother and I will be driving from Palmerston North on Sunday morning to be at the Anzac Day celebrations in New Plymouth,” he added, claiming he had no cynical reason to hold the event on Anzac Day.

He said most people had no problem with the expo, citing the 13,000 people who attended the Palmerston North shows in 2005 and 2007.

“You”ve got a very vocal minority who get up in arms about anything. These are the same people who were outraged when bikinis were invented,” said Crow. (ANI)

Twitter Gate: Congress will take action against Tharoor at the appropriate time: Tewari

New Delhi, Sep.18 (ANI): The Congress party on Friday said it would take appropriate action against Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor for his “cattle class” comments through the medium of Twitter at the appropriate time.

Addressing a party news conference in the capital, Congress spokesman Manish Tewari said: “We will take appropriate action (against Mr. Tharoor) at the appropriate time.

Tewari further said that action against Tharoor was not ruled out.

He also justified Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot’s statement on Thursday seeking Tharoor’s resignation for what he called “irresponsible” comments on the social networking site Twitter.

“It was unfortunate and unbecoming on his part to make such comments. In my view he should tender his resignation as Minister,” Gehlot had said.

“To make such irreverent comments is all the more despicable when one is holding a responsible position as that of the Minister of State for External Affairs,” Gehlot told journalists at his official residence here after a “Roza Iftar” party on Thursday evening.

Gehlot had termed Tharoor’s references posted on the site such as “cattle class” and “holy cows” as unacceptable in Indian politics.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan also said Tharoor had no right to continue in the Union Cabinet.

“I believe that in a democracy, people are God. To refer to them as ‘cattle’ is an insult to them. And I believe that such a person has no right to be a Union minister,” he told reporters.

Tharoor, who is on an official visit to Liberia, had earlier apologized through the Twitter medium, saying he was “sorry” for hurting any sentiments and that his words had been misunderstood.

“To those hurt by the belief that my repeating the phrase showed contempt: sorry. It’s a silly expression, but means no disrespect to economy travellers, only to airlines for herding us in like cattle. Many have misunderstood,” Tharoor said.

The minister said that he had learned belatedly of the fuss “over my tweet and pointed out that the phrase “cattle class” was used in the query, which he just repeated. (ANI)

Tharoor apologises for his ‘Holy Cow’ tweet

New Delhi, Sept 18 (ANI): Union Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor has apologized for his recent comment that he was prepared to travel in the “cattle class out of solidarity with all our holy cows”.

“It’s a silly expression but means no disrespect to economy travellers, only to airlines for herding us in like cattle. Many have misunderstood,” writes Tharoor while replying on Twitter.

“I am told it sounds worse in Malayalam, esp out of context. To those hurt by the belief that my repeating the phrase showed contempt: Sorry,” Tharoor says.

“Now realize, I should not assume people will appreciate humour. And you should not give those who would wilfully distort your words an opportunity,” he adds.

Tharoor was quoted as saying on Twitter that he would travel in “cattle class out of solidarity with all our holy cows,” which was termed “unacceptable and totally insensitive” by his party, the Congress.

Slamming Tharoor’s remarks, Congress spokesperson Jayanti Natarajan said: “Certainly the Congress doesn’t endorse or approve it and we find it unacceptable. We find this articulation unacceptable and absolutely insensitive.”

The whole controversy erupted after Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee asked the Congress leaders to observe austerity in order to cut down expenditure in the wake of draught declared in parts of the country.

Earlier, the Congress Party had decided that its ministers and lawmakers would also take a 20 per cent cut in salaries. (ANI)

Kanye West says sorry for interrupting Taylor Swift at VMA

London, Sept 14 (ANI): Kanye West has apologized for jumping onto the stage at the MTV Video Music Awards while Taylor Swift was giving her acceptance speech.

The Telegraph quoted West as writing on his blog: “I’M SOOOOO SORRY TO TAYLOR SWIFT AND HER FANS AND HER MOM. I SPOKE TO HER MOTHER RIGHT AFTER AND SHE SAID THE SAME THING MY MOTHER WOULD’VE SAID. SHE IS VERY TALENTED!”

West had stormed onto the stage to protest that Beyonce had been overlooked for the Best Female Video for her “Single Ladies.”

Swift had beaten Beyonce to bag the honour.

West had interrupted her speech and had said: “Taylor, I’m really happy for you, and I’m gonna let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time.”

However, West still believes Beyonce deserved the honour.

He writes: “BEYONCE’S VIDEO WAS THE BEST OF THIS DECADE!!!! … EVERYBODY WANNA BOOOOO ME BUT I’M A FAN OF REAL POP CULTURE!!! NO DISRESPECT BUT WE WATCHIN’ THE SHOW AT THE CRIB RIGHT NOW CAUSE … WELL YOU KNOW!!!! I’M STILL HAPPY FOR TAYLOR!!!!” (ANI)

Rajasthan Govt directs public servants to pay proper respect to MPs, MLAs

Jaipur, Sep. 2 (ANI): In a bizarre move, the Rajasthan government has directed all the government employees to properly welcome and see off visiting MPs and MLAs.

Among other things, the directive requires government employees to stand up when a lawmaker comes to visit them.

“Respecting them is essential and usually they come to address the grievances of the common man and not with their own personnel issues. In our culture we usually stand up when someone visits us and welcoming someone by just sitting on our chairs is not a part of our culture,” said Ashok Bairwa, spokesman, Rajasthan government.

On their part, the government employees have reacted with mixed notions.

They have contended that there was no need for such an order as they were already respecting public leaders, in and out of office.

“There might be an instance because of which the government had to issue this order. We are not aware of any such instance. I personally feel that employees and officers of the district administration have never shown dissent or disrespect to them nor such a feeling like this has ever come into their minds,” said Gowri Shankar Soni, a government employee.

Many Congress party MPs and MLAs have often complained about indifference of bureaucrats and other staff members towards them. (ANI)

MIC urges Universiti Malaya to maintain its Indian Studies dept’s name

Kuala Lumpur, Aug. 29 (ANI): Malaysian Indian Congress chief S. Samy Vellu has urged Universiti Malaya’s vice-chancellor Ghauth Jasmon not to change the name of university’s Indian Studies Department.

“He has to listen to the views of the Indian community. Tamil is our life,” he said when asked to comment on Ghauth’s statement over renaming the department to Indian and South Asian Studies department.
Ghauth had reportedly said that although the name of the department would be changed, its programmes would be maintained.
“We will not accept any changes to the Indian Studies Department because it was the Indians who contributed to the department’s existence and it is also our pride,” the New Strait Times quoted Samy Vellu, as saying.
He said he was informed by Human Resources Minister Dr. S. Subramaniam that the cabinet has agreed to maintain the during a recent Cabinet meeting.
“It has been agreed by the Cabinet. So, there must not be any change in the name,” Samy Vellu said.
He noted that the ISD was created from money collected from Indian estate workers in the early 1950s under the “Save Tamil Fund.”
“The department has many historical values for the Indian community. Changing its name would mean showing disrespect to the Indian community,” he added. (ANI)

Angry Lennon tapes may reveal secret behind Beatles’ split

Washington, August 20 (ANI): Previously unseen interviews with an angry John Lennon have surfaced, offering insight into what may have caused the Beatles to split.

The singer made a few revelations about the break up when interviewed by Rolling Stone publisher Jann Wenner, who released the 1970 tapes for rock journalist Mikal Gilmore’s Why The Beatles Broke Up article.

The tapes were also released to U.S. TV news show Entertainment Tonight, which recently aired the Beatle’s comments, reports Contactmusic.

Lennon told Wenner, “We sold out… and I felt sick”, adding “We got fed up with being sidemen for Paul.”

Facedown burials in ancient times was a way to humiliate the dead

Washington, June 24 (ANI): A new research has suggested that burying the dead facedown in ancient times wasn’t unusual or accidental, but a widely used way to humiliate the dead.

According to a report in National Geographic News, the first global study on the facedown burials suggests that it was a custom used across societies to disrespect or humiliate the dead.

Lead study author Caroline Arcini of Sweden’s National Heritage Board detected a common thread in the burials she studied, “that society sanctioned this apparently negative treatment of the dead.”

The unnerving burials often appear to signify “behavior that is out of the norm-it is not accepted, what (the dead) have done,” she said.

Shaming the dead “is most probably a deep-rooted behavior in humankind,” she added.

Arcini searched existing literature to make the first ever catalog of facedown burials from around the world.

She found descriptions of more than 600 bodies from 215 grave sites, from Peru to South Korea.

Dating from 26,000 years ago all the way up to World War I, these so-called prone burials include men, women, and children, though the majority were men.

Facedown burials occurred in all sorts of graves, including single graves, double graves, and mass graves.

In locations with several prone burials, the dead were often buried in shallow graves toward the edge of the cemetery, most of them without coffins.

According to Arcini, the phenomenon has various possible explanations.

Some people had their hands and feet tied together, suggesting they had been criminals or prisoners of war.

Other burials indicate the practice was linked to social status, as in the case of 80 bodies found in a Mexican cemetery that dates to between 1150 and 850 B.C.

There, 6 men are sitting in their graves, while the other 74 are in a prone position, Arcini noted.

“It might be that the people (buried in a sitting position) are high priests, and the others are in a lower social position,” she said.

The archaeologist highlights religious and cultural conflict as another potential factor.

“The highest frequency of facedown burials in Sweden, for instance, dates to the period of the Viking age when Christianity arrived in the region,” Arcini said.

“Pagan Vikings may not have accepted those who converted to Christianity and may have buried the bodies in a way that reflected their dislike,” she explained.

“Rule-breaking nuns and convicted witches were also buried in prone positions,” she added. (ANI)

The 10 marriage commandments – Beckham-style

London, June 21 (ANI): Ten years down the line in a marriage, most couples find it hard to keep their relationships steady, but that’s not the case with the soccer ace David Beckham and his wife Victoria.

The couple will celebrate 10 years of wedded bliss on July 4 and their love seems to be growing stronger every year.

Now, love psychologist Susan Quilliam has revealed the marriage commandments that keep them together, reports the News of the World.

1 Give each other space – Absence makes the heart grow fonder, especially when living on different continents. While David is playing football in Italy, Victoria keeps herself busy juggling family life and her fashion career in the States.

“Separate interests keep their love fresh and alive. They make the most of, and live for, the time they spend together,” says Quilliam.

2 Forgive and forget – David’s downfall came in 2004 in the form of Rebecca Loos, 32.

“The Beckhams were obviously able to talk through their problems, learnt to understand one another, and then put it behind them,” says Quilliam.

3 Family comes first – The Beckhams have produced a hat-trick of gorgeous sons: Brooklyn, 10, Romeo, six, and break-dancing Cruz, four.

“When you’re in a loving marriage and know you can weather any storm, having a child can bring you even closer, provide a focus for your love and give you a shared job to do,” says Quilliam.

4 Be each other’s cheerleader – The couple idolises each other.

“Victoria’s made many sacrifices, but both have genuinely admired and supported the other. Be proud of what your partner does – and tell them so,” says Quilliam.

5 Dress for marriage success – The Beckhams ensure their glamour dial is always cranked up to 11 on nights out.

“It’s a sign of disrespect to your partner to let yourself go. By taking care of themselves, David and Victoria help keep the lust alive,” says Quilliam.

6 When two become one – Their penchant for copycat behaviour is a sure-fire sign of a successful relationship.

“While individuality is important, their ‘matching’ styles, and the overlap between them, shows the world they have a rock-solid partnership – they think, feel and act the same,” says Quilliam.

7 All you need is love – Victoria and David travel thousands of miles to spend one night together.

“They’re constantly declaring their love. Just saying: ‘I love you’ every day goes a long way in keeping romance alive,” says Quilliam.

8 The in-laws are not the enemy – The secret of a happy relationship is a happy family. With their hectic schedules, David and Victoria would be lost without Sandra and Jackie, their respective mothers-in-law, who regularly travel with the family, acting as babysitters and allowing the couple to spend precious time alone.

“The Beckhams know the importance of making their mums feel involved and valued. They give the family stability and are a vital source of support,” says Quilliam.

9 Never air your dirty laundry in public – Behind the scenes, Posh and Becks have had their fair share of humdinger rows. But unlike other celebrity couples, they’re careful never to argue or criticise each other in public.

“David and Victoria have such a public profile that even the slightest hint of tension would quickly come back to haunt them. They never criticise or bad-mouth each other, and if anything negative happens, they close ranks,” says Quilliam.

10 Spice up (Sex) life – Posh is regularly seen scouring LA’s sex shops and stocking up on red-hot goodies. And David often buys sexy underwear for his missus.

“Love thrives on physical passion. Shared pleasure and sex binds them together and helps them get through stressful times,” says Quilliam. (ANI)

Big B snubs Australian ‘Doctorate’ over attacks on Indian students

New Delhi, May 30 (ANI): Disappointed over recent ‘racial’ attacks on Indian students in Australia, Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan has declined to accept the honorary Doctorate degree scheduled to be conferred upon him by the University of Queensland.

Amitabh has stated in his popular Blog-bigb.bigadda.com-that he is aggrieved by the attacks on Indian students in Australia and hence does not deem it right to accept such an honourary degree, which is to be given to him in July during a function.

Asking his fans’ to suggest whether his decision to refuse the Doctorate from Australian university was justified, Bachchan said: “I mean no disrespect to the Institution that honours me, but under the present circumstances, where citizens of my own country are subjected to such acts of inhuman horror, my conscience does not permit me to accept this decoration from a country that perpetrates such indignity to my fellow countrymen,” said Amitabh Bachchan in his blog.

Big B had last week accepted an offer from the Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia, for decorating him with an Honorary Doctorate for his contribution to the world of entertainment. This issue was under discussion and consideration by the University Board.

Big B, as Amitabh Bachchan is popularly known in India and among millions of his fans across the world, has sought his fans’ reactions over his decision and dilemma.

“And here is where I need your inputs. Am I right in thinking so? And, if yes, then is my act of refusing the honour justified or not? I shall put this up as my POLL question,” Bachchan adds.

Angry Man U stars tell Ronaldo to behave

London, May 13 (ANI): Senior Manchester United players have told star striker Cristiano Ronaldo to stop acting like a plonker and behave himself.

A number of them were angry with the Portuguese star’s lack of respect for boss Alex Ferguson when he was substituted in Sunday’s Manchester derby.

The Sun quoted a club source as saying: “A number were unhappy about Ronaldo’s behaviour and told him so. A lot of these players have grown up with Alex Ferguson as their manager and do not like seeing anyone show him disrespect.”

Portugal winger Ronaldo, 24, threw a tracksuit top to the floor and mouthed an expletive as he sat in the dugout. But when he got into the changing rooms he was immediately told by some of the players not to act up like that with the boss and to calm it down.

Ronaldo tried to plead his case but, in the end, accepted he was in the wrong.

He left the ground within 15 minutes – more in embarrassment at his actions than in anger.

Ferguson has not confronted Ronaldo about the incident and has preferred to let him stew. (ANI)

Nabbed militant says Indian militants have no link with Taliban

Srinagar, Apr 25 (ANI): Syed Moinullah Khan, a Pakistan-based militant who was arrested by the Indian Army, disclosed that militants operating in Jammu and Kashmir have no links with the Taliban.

“People of Taliban are in Afghanistan and Pakistan. They don’t come to this side. Each outfit a has separate training centre of their own. Nobody belongs to Taliban in this, they have their own training centre and setup and those organisations, which work in Kashmir have their own setup. These setups in Kashmir have nothing to do with the Taliban and they don’t work along with the Taliban,” Syed claimed.yed, Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist, was brought before the media for the first time on Saturday.

Shah confessed how he received imparted intense training before infiltrating into India from the Gurez Sector along with 30 others.

“I was trained in a jungle in a place called Mansehra in Jammu and Kashmir. There is a place named Sunar in the border area of Kashmir and we entered via that route. In totality there were people belonging to four terrorist organisations, who infiltrated Kashmir, including Hizbul Mujahideen, Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed and PPR,” Shah said.

When asked about the motive behind him becoming a terrorist, Syed said, “Kashmiris come to Pakistan and claim that they are being illtreated, they are not given passports, the Indian Army has captured their houses and that they are misrespected. So they tell us to come along with weapons and we come here in the name of jihad. This is my motive behind becoming a terrorist.”

However, he added that on arriving he saw there was no kind of disrespect towards Muslims.

“On arriving here, I realised that people are involved in their own work and I did not see any kind of restrictions in the lives of Kashmiris. Everyone is living their lives in full freedom and is doing their own work. There is no need of jihad as such over here,” Shah said.

Shah informed there was not a set target or mission for any outfit.

“There was not set target or mission given to us. We were just sent to attack. It depends from the commanders as to where they send us and for what; we have no say in it. We have three types of training. One is for 21 days, one is for 30 days and the third one lasts for 3 months.”

Syed also informed that he had met the Hizbul Mujhahideen commander.

“The commander of Hizbul Mujahideen, who came to Gurez Sector, to talk about jihad, from that time onwards I, wanted to get into this. I met that person and took the address of the training centre and landed myself there. The one who becomes a commander is the person who spends almost 4-5 years in the area,” Syed added. (ANI)
