Osama bin Laden in ping pong duel between US, Iran

Washington, May 6 (ANI): Toying with America’s view on security seems to be the flavour of the month as far as Iran is concerned.

While Iran President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told ABC “I heard that Usama bin Laden is in Washington, D.C.,” State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley jocularly retorted, “Over the past few hours, we””ve done an intensive search here at the Department of State — every nook and cranny, every rock, and we can safely report that Usama bin Laden is not here.”

Asked if a check had been done of the greater Washington area, Fox News quoted Crowley, relieved by the laughter elicited from the comment, as saying no, but that he was “pretty confident” Ahmadinejad is inaccurate.

Pressed about reports that bin Laden is in Iran, Ahmadinejad told ABC, “Maybe you know, but I don””t know.” (ANI)

Stakeholders gather for final gas hub meet

The Department of State Development will today host the final of three stakeholder meetings related to the proposed Kimberley gas hub.

The meetings bring together representatives from a range of sectors to identify possible gaps in the information being presented to the Federal Government on the project.

A series of impact studies will soon be submitted to the Commonwealth as it considers whether to grant environmental and heritage approvals.

The first two meetings focused on the effects of the project on the land and sea.

Today’s meeting will look at its social impacts.

Hindus and Jews want EU intervention as USA voices ‘major concern’ on Roma discrimination in Romania

Nevada (US), March 15 (ANI): USA has expressed ‘major concern’ regarding discrimination against Roma in Romania.

In its annual “Human Rights Report” about Romania issued recently, US Department of State says: “Roma faced persistent poverty and had poor access to government services, few employment opportunities, high rates of school attrition, inadequate health care, and pervasive discrimination.”

Rajan Zed, acclaimed Hindu statesman; and Rabbi Jonathan B. Freirich, prominent Jewish leader in Nevada and California in USA; in a statement issued in Nevada today, said that condition of Roma in Romania had most of the signs of an “apartheid”.

It was now time for European Union to urgently intervene in Romania and do something “concrete and real” for Roma upliftment. (ANI)

Burns carrying presidential letter for Indian govt

US Under Secretary of State William Burns, currently on a visit to New Delhi, is carrying a private presidential letter for the Indian government, with whom the Obama administration is looking forward to work with, a top official said here today. Terming India as “absolutely critical” in the region, US Special envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrooke said: “India is a country that we must keep in the closest consultations with.

” “At midnight last, I spoke to Undersecretary of State Bill Burns immediately after he had landed in New Delhi,” Holbrooke said in his maiden press conference after occupying the current position five months ago. “He is carrying a presidential letter to the Indian government.

He is carrying the message that I would have carried if I would had time to go to New Delhi on this trip, but I couldn’t do it,” said Holbrooke, who early this week returned from a trip to Pakistan. Holbrooke, however, declined to divulge the content of the message, saying: “It is a private letter”.

“But the important thing is that the number three person in the Department of State has gone to India to reaffirm immediately after the election,” he said. “We consider India an absolutely critical country in the region.

They’re not part of the problem but they are vitally effective and we want to work closely with them,” he said.
