Google in sexism row after ‘censoring cougar dating site ads’

London, May 20 (ANI): Google has landed itself in trouble by censoring advertisements for a so-called ‘cougar’ dating websites for women despite taking no action against ads of similar sites for men.

The company labelled the ad for the website, called CougarLife, which promotes relationships between older women and younger men, as “non family safe”.

However it allows ads that publicise such liaisons between older men and younger women – from a website called ArrangementSeekers.com.

Both CougarLife and ArrangementSeeks are owned by the same company, Avid Life Media.

Google officials then refused to allow the advertisements for the Canadian-owned dating service, which introduced “women in their prime with younger men”, to be sent to third party websites.

A “cougar” is a slang term used for such women in the US and is epitomised by celebrities such as Demi Moore, whose husband, Ashton Kutcher, is 16 years her junior.

According to The Telegraph, the company said the campaign, which cost 100,000 US dollars a month, generated referrals that accounted for almost two thirds of its traffic.

Google’s decision to censor the ad only landed it in more trouble as critics began accusing it of hypocrisy and sexism.

Claudia Opdenkelder, who is the founder of the CougarLife, and whose partner is 14 years her junior, accused the search giant of sexism.

“It”s just wrong all around,” The Telegraph quoted her as telling The New York Times.

“It”s age and gender discrimination. It”s just about older, successful, independent, strong women who enjoy someone that”s younger.”

She added to Canada’s National Post, “It”s a huge double standard and I think women should just be appalled.

“We just want to be treated the same way as all the others, and the discrimination against the word ”cougar” makes it even worse.

“It makes us – cougar women – feel like dirty perverts.”

A Google spokeswoman denied all the accusations.

She said the company had a list of words, which trigger a review of the site and the ads before a decision is made but declined to say if the word “cougar” was one of them.

“It’s not just about the ad, it’s about the ad and the landing page of the site,” she said.

“Anything that’s considered non-family safe will not run on the Google content network at this point.” (ANI)

Average woman dates dozen men, spends over $2K before finding Mr Right

Wellington, May 10 (ANI): An average woman would date dozens of men and shell out thousands of dollars before finding her Mr Right, according to a Kiwi dating expert.

A survey by a British dating site found the average woman goes out with two dozen men and spends more than 2000 pounds before finding that special someone.

But Verity Molloy, owner of Auckland”s Speed Date, claimed that these results are conservative.

Molloy, 37, said that a woman on the prowl for a lengthy period could date “at least” that many suitors.

And Molloy said that she could easily spend 440 dollars to look her best for one of her company”s singles events, although she wouldn”t spend that much for every date.

This could include 40 dollars for a spray tan, 60 dollars for hair, up to 100 dollars on an outfit, 40 dollars for accessories, 100 dollars for taxis and another 100 dollars for drinks.

“Everybody”s different but 4200 dollars is not excessive at all,” the New Zealand Herald quoted her as saying.

The British survey of 2173 women found 7 per cent went on between 41 and 60 dates before finding someone and 1per cent had up to 80.

Sasha Madarasz, dating agent and owner of Auckland matchmaking agency Two”s Company, says most Kiwi women might have between one and five “matches” before finding a relationship, and may go on two or three dates with each person.

She said it was hard to pin down how much money her clients might spend, but suggested women would spend “thousands” making themselves look good.

“If you go on first dates with four men you can wear the same outfit and save money, but if you”re going on three, four, five dates with the same man you”ll want a new outfit each time,” she added. (ANI)

JLo”s ex Ojani Noa to start reality show ”I Owe J.Lo”

New York, April 30 (ANI): Jennifer Lopez”s ex-husband Ojani Noa is starting a new reality show titled, ”I Owe J.Lo”, to help him avoid bankruptcy, it has emerged.

Noa will look to “land menial jobs to pay off a half-million dollar court judgment that he owes to his ex-wife,” as part of the show.

Dating Web site Ashleymadison.com, that encourages married people to have affairs, is looking to partner on the project, reports the New York Post.

Noa has been ordered to pay 545,000 dollars to Lopez after he tried to publish a book revealing details about his relationship with her. (ANI)

Toyboy romance makes a woman feel four years younger

London, Apr 27 (ANI): If you”re a woman who wants to feel younger and have more fun, then start dating a younger guy – that’s the conclusion of a new study.

According to the study, by dating site toyboy.com, women who choose a junior partner enjoy more outdoor activities and mix with people who have more youthful hobbies.

A spokesman for the dating site said: “It’s always been believed having a younger man makes you feel younger and now we have proved this is true.”

To reach the conclusion, 1,000 women members aged between 18 and 65 who had younger partners, were asked: “How much younger does he make you feel?”

The average was four years.

However, one in 10 said their toyboy made them feel a decade younger, reports The Daily Express.

Older men were said to be more set in their ways and “grumpy”. (ANI)

Brit man ”strangles girlfriend to death during sex session that went wrong”

London, April 21 (ANI): A British man is said to have strangled his girlfriend to death during a sex session that went wrong.

Jason O”Malley, 39, who was having affairs with three women at the same time, claimed that his girlfriend Kerry Sneddon liked him to squeeze her throat during sex.

He told officers when arrested that the beauty therapist encouraged him to apply “a little bit of pressure” and they had done it six or seven times in sex sessions although he didn”t like doing it.

Sheffield Crown Court heard 36-year-old Sneddon”s naked body was found at the home they shared. She had been throttled with a ligature on the living room floor.

O”Malley told police he could remember starting to have sex but they had never used a ligature before and he had no memory of the events leading to her death.

He denies murdering his partner whom he met on an Internet dating site. The prosecution say he throttled her after an argument.

“The defendant killed Kerry Sneddon and when he strangled her he must have intended to kill her or at least cause her serious harm,” the Telegraph quoted prosecutor Bryan Cox QC as telling the jury.

“We do not accept the defendant suffered genuine amnesia. We submit he is lying about that.

“We do not accept it may have been an accident during the course of some consensual sexual activity which is the suggestion he has made. A ligature was made and force applied for a considerable period of time,” he stated.

The jury was told O”Malley shortly afterwards rang his ex-wife Karen with whom he still slept occasionally and told her he had done “something stupid” and killed Kerry. She had not been breathing for five or six minutes.

Karen rang for an ambulance.

O”Malley left his wife in July, 2007 to move in with Sneddon at her home in Rotherham town centre after meeting her on the dating site and beginning a sexual relationship.

While Sneddon went on holiday to Turkey with her two children and a friend soon afterwards, O”Malley met another woman on an Internet dating site.

They had a sexual relationship and she became pregnant with his child.

Cox told the court Sneddon saw a copy of the baby scan in her partner”s wallet and it caused some friction between them.

While the beauty therapist was outgoing and bubbly and worked part-time in a pub, O”Malley, an unemployed former driver, was described as insecure, suspicious, jealous, possessive and prone to violent outbursts.

O”Malley wanted to know all her movements and would check her text messages and Facebook profile and contact her if she was just a few minutes late in coming home.

Although it was a volatile relationship and they often argued by the end of 2009 the couple were talking of getting married and moving to Spain, which was Kerry”s longstanding dream.

O”Malley continued to see Lisa Harrison whom he met on the internet while living with Sneddon and he often confided in her about his relationship problems.

He also continued to have sex with his ex-wife and they remained on good terms. He also confided in her.

When police arrived at the house on November 8 last year they found O”Malley kneeling by the stairs with a piece of brown cotton material looped around his neck and tied to the banister as if he had been attempting suicide.

“What have I done, is she going to be all right?” he had screamed at the time.

A pathologist found bruises on Sneddon”s neck and face consistent with death by asphyxiation from a ligature being applied. He said they were not caused during consensual sexual activity as the defendant claimed.

O”Malley told police the couple had drunk some beer and began kissing and stripping each other”s clothes off after watching the X Factor.

He could not remember finishing sex although he remembered starting it. He said he would never have harmed Sneddon as they were “soulmates”.

The hearing continues. (ANI)

Brit prison monitor lands herself in jail for having ”phone sex” with inmates

London, Apr 1 (ANI): A prison monitor, who sent explicit photographs of herself and engaged in ””phone sex”” with inmates, has been given a suspended jail sentence.

Alice Belton, of Wilton Road, Bexhill-on-Sea, East Sussex, pleaded guilty at a previous hearing at Newport Crown Court on the Isle of Wight to a charge of misconduct in office.

The 23-year-old was found to have engaged in ””inappropriate”” and ””intimate”” relationships with three inmates serving at HMP Parkhurst on the Isle of Wight where she volunteered between October 2008 and April 2009.

As part of her unpaid role with the Independent Monitoring Board (IMB), she had to visit prisoners to check on their well-being, reports the Telegraph.

However, she was arrested after she was found bringing a mobile phone into the prison.

Belton told police she had first made contact with one of the prisoners, named as Stuart, through a dating site called Flirtfast, but at that time she did not know he was a serving prisoner at Parkhurst.

However, she admitted carrying on the relationship after she had found out.

The court heard Stuart attempted to persuade her to bring drugs into the prison but she refused to oblige.

The prisoner also transferred 600 pounds to her bank account as a birthday present.

It was revealed that Belton later became involved with John Paul, a friend of Stuart and also a Parkhurst inmate, and exchanged explicit text messages with him.

The court heard that Belton, who was in a relationship, also engaged in an exchange of letters with a third prisoner, called Justin, but these letters did not contain sexual material.

Defence attorney Richard Germain said that Belton was ””emotionally fragile”” and ‘‘naive’’, which had been caused by her upbringing.

Germain said there were suspicions that Belton was being groomed by the prisoners as a potential drugs courier and they had informed the prison authorities of her behaviour when she refused.

Judge John Dixon sentenced Belton to a four-month prison sentence suspended for two years and said that she had been given inappropriate support and training for her role.

He criticised the Government for failing to set up a better vetting procedure for prison monitor volunteers. (ANI)

Gaming site’s latest offer: Pay to play with ‘PlayDates’!

Wellington, Mar 25 (ANI): A new dating site for gamers has come up with a game that makes guys pay to play, while girls get paid to play with them.

GameCrush.com is a dating site for gamers, where guys (called “Players”) choose a girl (called “PlayDates”) to play with, reports Stuff.co.nz.

According to gaming website IGN, players pay 6.60 dollars for about 10 minutes of gaming, and PlayDates keep 60 percent of the money they bring in.

GameCrush revealed that PlayDates can earn up to 30 dollars an hour.

IGN said GameCrush compares the cost to buying a drink for a girl at the pub. There are about 1200 PlayDate profiles at the moment.

Guys can view profiles and chat for free. Afterward, the blokes can rate girls based on their gaming ability, attractiveness and flirtiness.

The site currently supports only Xbox Live and a few casual Flash games. The Flash games include an option to video chat while you play. (ANI)

Cop put ex-girlfriend on dating site, court told

A policeman alleged to have falsely represented his former girlfriend on a matchmaking site has been granted home detention bail by Adelaide Magistrates Court.

Detective Sergeant Darren James Clohesy, 40, who is suspended from duty, is charged with stalking, attempting to obstruct or pervert the course of justice and six counts of breaching bail.

It is understood prosecutors will allege he created a profile on an internet site pretending to be his former girlfriend, without her consent.

It will be alleged he and co-accused, Kellie Ann Hunter, told respondents to go to the former girlfriend’s address.

It is also alleged Clohesy tried to intimidate his co-accused into taking responsibility for the matter.

Clohesy hid from the media as he was released from the court on bail.

There will be another hearing in April.

Oz women as keen as men to take part in group sex

Melbourne, May 27 (ANI): A new study has revealed the “kinky” world of Australians.

The shocking study found that ladies are as keen to have group sex as men, and they initiate it almost as often.

The survey was conducted among members of Australia’s second biggest online dating site.

Almost 40 per cent of respondents reported an equal gender split in the group encounter, while a further 30 per cent reported a majority of men taking part and 30 per cent a majority of women.

As per the RedHotPie.com.au survey, which drew 8763 responses from among its 1.5 million member listings, almost as many women as men instigate the idea of group sex – 46 per cent compared with 54 per cent.

The most common reasons given for group sex are excitement, variety and to spice up long-term relationships, reports The Daily Telegraph.

The most common form of group sex is a threesome, the study found.

RedHotPie.com.au relationship expert Geoff Barker said the survey suggested Australian women were more sexually liberated than men.

“I thought you would find it skewed towards guys, but the reality is women are pursuing group sex just as much,” he said.

“Women don’t feel judged or watched by society the way Australian men are feeling. Women’s sexuality is encouraged by the media and the men folk.

Men tend to be a little bit more shy in the sex department,” he added. (ANI)

Appeals filed over kiss-and-tell book on Finnish premier

Helsinki – A kiss-and-tell book about Finnish Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen and the related issue of how much privacy leading politicians can claim may feature in a new trial, reports said Wednesday.

The prosecutor as well as the author and publisher of the book have filed appeals to the Supreme Court. A decision on a possible hearing is expected in four months, Finnish news agency STT reported.

An appeal court in February said the book violated Vanhanen’s privacy and ordered publisher Kari Ojala and author Susan Ruusunen, whom Vanhanen once dated, to pay fines based on the book earnings.

Ruusunen’s book Paaministerin morsian (The Prime Minister’s Bride) was published in 2007 after the relationship had ended. The two – both divorced – met via an internet dating site in 2006.

Last month, Vanhanen announced his engagement to Sirkka Mertala. The couple have been dating for a year.

In a related development, a new survey published Wednesday suggested Vanhanen’s approval ratings have dropped to their lowest level since he became prime minister almost six years ago.

Only 32 per cent of the 943 voters polled early April said they were satisfied with Vanhanen’s leadership, according to the survey commissioned by the newspaper Kaleva.

The controversy over the Ruusunen book was one factor that hit Vanhanen’s ratings, but the economic downturn was the main factor. The government’s overall ratings were also hit by the financial crisis, the survey said. (dpa)

Researcher studies details of online relationships forged on social networking sites

Washington, March 30 (ANI): A University of Kansas professor is researching details of online relationships forged on social networking sites and determining their significance, depth and potential.

Nancy Baym, associate professor of communication studies, became interested early on in how the Internet shapes interpersonal communication and of late has focused her research on social networking sites in particular.

According to Baym, sites such as Facebook, MySpace and Twitter have revolutionized interpersonal relationships for the digital age.

Within these online communities, users share status updates, self-generated media, journal entries and other interpersonal communication with an ever-growing cadre of online friends.

The purpose is to reinforce established friendships and form bonds with new friends.

“They start in the mid-late 1990s based on this idea that Stanley Milgram had that everybody’s connected by six degrees of separation – and the first one was actually called ‘sixdegrees.com’,” said Baym.

“And they’re based on the premise that you’re more likely to want to get to know people who know people you already know than all-out strangers. So, rather than a dating site that just has people putting up profiles and trying to randomly match, what if you could put up profiles of people that had shared friends. Wouldn’t those be more likely to succeed?” she added.

Baym said that the fastest-growing segment on Facebook, originally launched at Harvard for college students, now is people over age 35. The site currently claims more than 175 million active users.

Besides such impressive numbers is the enthusiasm such sites are generating, with many users frequenting social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook multiple times per day.

“Different people have different reasons for compulsive Facebook use,” Baym said.

“But, I think it comes down to the fact that there’s a continuous dribble – there’s always something new – so every time you go, something has changed; somebody has updated their status; someone has sent you a request; someone has posted an item,” she added.

Across the social networking sites, online friendships range from close relationships with strong ties to looser affiliations with less connectivity – but both types of friendships are useful. (ANI)

Opposites don’t really attract, says study

Washington, Mar 29 (ANI): They say people with opposite traits make for loving couples, but a new study is not obliging with the belief.

The research, published in the journal Evolutionary Psychology, says when it comes to personality, people seek partners with their same qualities – but say they want someone who is different.

To reach the conclusion, researchers quizzed 760 members of an online dating site to answer questionnaires regarding their personality traits, as well as the traits they would want in an ideal long-term partner.

They then were asked if they most wanted a partner that complemented them, or resembled them.

The answers showed a preference for someone with the same sort of personality; the traits, which included neuroticism, extraversion, openness, agreeableness, and conscientiousness, all had positive participant-to-partner correlations, ranging from .51 to .62.

“When asked about their preferences for a mate, people may partially draw upon lay theories of romantic attraction rather than their true desires for a mate,” Live Science quoted Pieternel Dijkstra, a professor at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands and the study’s lead researcher, as saying.

“Although many individuals occasionally feel attracted to ‘opposites,’ attractions between opposites often do not develop into serious intimate relationships and, when they do, these relationships often end prematurely,” she said.

The study also found that in addition to looking for a similar partner, women wanted men who were conscientious, outgoing, and emotionally stable, all traits that indicate an investment in the relationship and in any potential children.

However, “there were no particular traits that men seemed to prefer more than women,” Dijkstra said. (ANI)

Marital Infidelity Dating Agency offers free lifetime membership to LeAnn Rimes

Washington, Mar 26 (ANI): World’s largest infidelity-dating site has offered singer/actress LeAnn Rimes free lifetime membership after she was caught making out with her married TV movie co-star.

Ashleymadison.com has offered the 26-year-old star a free lifetime membership in a bid to help her find true love.

The website officials said in the offer, “We feel confident that Leann will indeed find true love on our site OR at the very least, a fantastic one night stand.”

Website President Noel Biderman feels that LeAnn “shouldn’t have to suffer in silence any longer,” but also stresses “hooking up with co-workers is never a good idea!” reports Fox News.

Biderman has also extended a free membership offer to LeAnn’s hubby Dean Sheremet, following rumours about his sexuality after a woman posing as “his cousin” phoned Michigan’s “Mojo in the Morning” radio show to say Sheremet “doesn’t care” about his wife’s alleged infidelity because “he’s gay.” (ANI)

Virtual dating to re-define how singles know each other

Washington, Feb 15 (ANI): Didn’t have a date this Valentine’s Day? Well, don’t worry for you can now woo those lovely ladies by going on a virtual date with them-all you need to do is to log on to OmniDate.

OmniDate requires a person to create an online profile and set up an avatar, or virtual representation of themselves, from a library of avatars.

And then they can go on a virtual date, talk, share each other’s favourite music and even go on for a virtual kiss.

“With email the anticipation builds and builds and by the time you actually meet the person there is a mountain of expectation. All people want is to learn more about the person behind the online profile in a safe and comfortable manner,” Discovery News quoted Ravit Abelman, co-founder of virtual dating site OmniDate, as saying.

Right now, the avatars on Omnidate are only approximations of one’s real appearance, but it might just change very soon.

The website is developing software that will automatically convert an uploaded photo of a person into an online avatar for a more realistic image of both the user and his or her date.

One can ask a potential single for a virtual date whenever he or she logs in.

After the person agrees, the two avatars are transported to a random setting, such as a bar (as in my date), a cafe or on a beach.

Then the couples can play games to break the ice, choose what music to listen to, and write messages that pop up as text boxes.

If a person likes what he or she is hearing, they can press a button and briefly hold the other avatar’s hand, touch their face, or blow a kiss.

And in just five minutes a “kiss” function appears, pressing which one avatar can hold the other to plant a gentle smooch on mutual consent. (ANI)

AshleyMadison.com, a website that lets people cheat- without getting caught!

New York, Feb 1 (ANI): “Life is Short. Have an Affair”: that’s the mantra behind AshleyMadison.com – a website that helps people cheat on their partners – without getting caught.

AshleyMadison.com, the largest online dating site for people in relationships, has a whopping 3.5 million members, according to CEO Noel Biderman.

“If you already have the inclination to cheat, we [AshleyMadison.com] can help you,” the New York Daily News quoted Biderman, as saying.

“This is a safe way to do it,” he added.

As to what makes the site “safe” for cheaters – the answer is: the fact that everyone going on the site knows what they are getting into, as the members of the site are either cheaters themselves or looking for a cheater.

Karen, a 52-year-old from New Jersey, says she’s grateful for the birth of AshleyMadison.com.

Karen and her husband fought about sex a lot, she claims.

“I knew he had a low sex drive but he was good to my kids so I figured it would be fine,” she said.

“But then it [sex] went from once a week to once a month. We’d fight about it,” she said.

She said the lack of sex got her down. She asked herself why it was happening, occasionally wondering if she was too chubby or just not good-looking to her partner anymore.

She went on AshleyMadison.com and met a man who desired her, and it changed everything, she says. (ANI)
