Elizabeth Hurley trying to have a baby

London, May 18 (ANI): Elizabeth Hurley is trying to have a baby with husband Arun Nayar, but they “haven”t had any luck so far”.

The actress, who has an eight-year-old son Damian, with her multi-millionaire ex-boyfriend Steve Bing, hopes to expand her family.

“We haven”t had any luck so far. Arun would love another one. Damian does not want another one. And I think it would be great if one came along. But we”re grateful for what we”ve got,” the Daily Star quoted her as telling Zest magazine.

Also, the 44-year-old beauty revealed Damian”s relationship with his stepfather.

She said: “Damian calls him daddy. He knows he”s not his blood father. He”ll sometimes forget, though, and say, ”Tell me again why dad”s brown and we”re so white.” And I”ll say, ”He”s not blood, remember.” And he”ll say, ”Yes, I knew that.””(ANI)

Wildcats swoop on Tovey

The Perth Wildcats have signed former Sydney and Townsville forward Cameron Tovey for the next two NBL seasons.

Tovey, who started his career at the Cats, joins Shawn Redhage, Kevin Lisch, Jesse Wagstaff, Brad Robbins, Damian Martin, Drew Williamson, Stephen Weigh and Matt Knight as players confirmed for next season.

Perth now needs only to sign an under-24 development player to complete its roster.

Tovey had reportedly quit the NBL earlier this month for a career in accounting but the talented forward said that was never the case.

He will work part-time while juggling his basketball duties.

Man says ”head alien” made him crash his car?

Melbourne, Apr 28 (ANI): A man has said that a “head alien” ordered him to crash his car into another vehicle in 2004, which led to the killing of a Gold Coast grandfather.

However, government prosecutors said Damian Amos was simply drunk.

According to the Gold Coast Bulletin, during the opening day of his trial in Southport District Court, the 32-year-old pleaded not guilty, on the grounds of insanity, to the dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, causing death.

The court heard how Amos had a history of paranoid schizophrenia and had not taken his medication the morning of October 9, 2004, when his car, travelling at 140km/h (87mph), rear-ended the hatchback of 58-year-old Keith Evenis in Queensland.

The massive impact shunted the hatchback forward 74m (243 feet.) into a tree.

It exploded in a fireball, instantly killing Evenis.

Defense barrister Angelo Vasta, QC, said that Amos”s driving in the 70km/h (44mph) zone could only be described as “maniacal” but argued his client was not guilty.

He insisted that Amos should not be held criminally responsible as he had suffered a psychotic episode while driving and “lacked capacity to control his actions.”

A document of facts was presented in the court, which stated that the traffic accident happened shortly after Amos had been ejected from a local golf club for hitting balls at other golfers.

Vasta said his client left and was driving when he had a psychotic episode and believed he heard instructions from a “head alien” to immediately return to his Broadbeach Waters home, on Australia”s eastern coast.

“The head alien told him he had to get home and he wanted to obey the command and he drove in a way that showed he was in control of the head alien,” the Daily Telegraph quoted Vasta as saying.

His lawyer said that Amos had been treated for mental illness since 1999 but over the years had suffered psychotic episodes in which he communicated with alien figures and believed he had a microchip implanted in his brain. (ANI)

Shippers must support national code: Union

Members of the Maritime Union in Darwin have criticised shipping companies for not supporting a national Stevedoring Code of Practice.

About 25 union member walked off the job in Darwin today to coincide with the funeral of a dock worker killed in Sydney.

They passed a resolution calling on the Federal Government to introduce a national code of practice for stevedoring.

Speaking to workers at the walk-off, union organiser Glenn Williams said people do not realise the dangers dock workers are facing.

“The safety of you guys is paramount in this campaign. Patricks and P&O especially have not been supportive so far of a National Stevedoring Code of Practice so far,” Mr Williams said.

“But I think that will change. Especially with both companies experiencing the death of an employee and one of our members in the last six weeks.”

The Member for Solomon, Damian Hale told the gathering he will take the resolution to his Federal colleagues.

Police hunt man over indecent assault spate

New South Wales Police believe the same man may be responsible for a number of indecent assaults on women in Sydney’s south over the past several months.

Officers say a woman was followed, pushed to the ground, assaulted and robbed by a man at Woolooware in the early hours of Sunday March 14.

Early in the morning of February 6, a man followed a group of women as they left a fast-food outlet at Kirrawee and later assaulted one of them.

And police are also investigating two other cases which happened on the same day in October last year.

In the first case, a woman was indecently assaulted in a park at Gymea and about three hours later another woman was followed home and approached by a man but he left.

In all of the assaults the attacker has been described as white, slim with short or ear-length brown hair in his mid 20s to mid 30s.

All the assaults happened in the early hours of a Sunday morning.

Acting Superintedent Damian Henry says police are taking measures to prevent any further attacks.

“We’ve increased our patrols, particularly in the early hours of the morning,” he said.

Anyone with information about the man is urged to contact Sutherland Police via Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.

Asylum boat crew transferred to Darwin

Twenty-two Indonesian crewman were flown from Christmas Island to Darwin last night but no asylum seekers have been brought to the mainland.

The Department of Immigration says until yesterday, Darwin’s detention centre housed 55 Indonesian crewman who were caught on illegal fishing boats or asylum seeker vessels.

Late last night another 22 Indonesian crew from asylum seeker boats were brought to Darwin.

That brings the total number of detainees there to 77.

The department says the men have been brought to Darwin for prosecution processes.

This week the Prime Minister said no decision had been made about where asylum seekers would be sent if the Christmas Island detention centre reached capacity.

But the federal member for the Territory-based seat of Solomon, Damian Hale, says up to 300 asylum seekers could be transferred to mainland detention facilities including Darwin.

Elizabeth Hurley’s son banned from watching Hugh Grant movies

London, Mar 15 (ANI): Elizabeth Hurley has banned her seven-year-old son Damian from watching her ex beau Hugh Grant’s movies, because his films contain too much swearing.

Hurley and Grant live next door to each other in London and share good relation despite their split 10 years ago.

“We”re always trying to find something that Uncle Hugh has done that he can see, but they”re full of swear words. We can”t find any!” the Telegraph quoted her as saying.

She added: “He can”t watch Four Weddings And A Funeral. He can”t watch About A Boy. It”s quite difficult trying to find stuff for kids.

The actress revealed that Damian often spends time with Grant, who is also his godfather.

She said: “We see an awful lot of him. We still live next door to each other in London.

“Damian”s very lucky, actually, because he”s got a lot of godfathers, and they all spoil him rotten. Hugh adores him and it works very well indeed.”

Hurley claims that she has permitted her son to watch her films ‘Austin Powers’ and ‘Bedazzled’, which are both rated 15.

“I wouldn”t really watch anything that I”m in, but because of Damian, I”ve seen Austin Powers thousands of times.

“He knows all my lines, he can describe all my costumes, all my hairstyles – he knows which ones are wigs; he knows the lot. And Bedazzled he loves. He loves me being the devil. Of course he knows all those lines as well. I don”t know any of them.” (ANI)

Cats eager to re-sign finals hero Lisch

Perth’s hierarchy will move quickly to re-sign Kevin Lisch after the US import starred in the Wildcats’ 96-72 title-winning NBL triumph over Wollongong Hawks on Friday night.

But whether or not the Cats ink a new deal with Lisch, they will lose 36-year-old journeyman Martin Cattalini who retired after snaring his fourth Championship ring.

Lisch drained 29 points and nailed five of nine three-pointers, including one from three metres behind the arc on the three-quarter time buzzer, to lead Perth to the crushing victory in the deciding game three.

The 23-year-old, who scored 15 points in game one and 11 in game two, was named the grand final MVP and coach Rob Beveridge confirmed Lisch was a wanted man at Perth.

“He was everything I was looking for in terms of the work ethic, the attitude, the character,” he said.

“He’s still young and only going to improve.

“Kevin’s earned his right to continue for sure.”

But while Beveridge is confident of locking in his uncontracted players as he attempts to create a dynasty, Hawks coach Gordie McLeod is unsure whether he will be able to do the same.

“I would say it would be pretty hard for us to do that [keep this squad together] because with another team coming in I think a lot of players on the team this year have proven they can play at this level,” McLeod said.

“We only spent just over $700,000 on the cap this year so the guys aren’t playing for big bucks, they play from the heart.

“I think a lot of clubs will want to come and get some players but we’ll sit down with all our guys in the coming week and we’ll talk about the future.”

McLeod said he was confident the club, which was on the verge of folding less than 12 months ago, would continue into next season.

“We’ve done all we can do and now it’s a matter of waiting to see what decisions are made,” he said.

The Hawks led by 11 points early in the second quarter but Lisch and Damian Martin (17 points) turned the tide Perth’s way.

The home side erased the deficit in just four minutes before sealing the win with a dominant 31-15 third quarter.

Cattalini told his team-mates of his decision to retire on Thursday and Beveridge used the announcement as extra motivation.

“We spoke as a group that we wanted to do it for ourselves but said let’s do it for Martin as well,” Beveridge said.

“He’s an icon in the NBL … he was a huge part of our group and we’re going to miss him immensely.”

Beveridge, who almost left Australia after a horror run at the now-defunct Sydney Spirit last season when he was not even being paid at times, admitted his Wildcats unit had exceeded all expectations.

“When we put the team together it was about two or three years down the track,” he said.

“The way everything is run [at Perth] has put me in a position to be able to excel and I’m extremely thankful because I was at the bottom of the basketball doldrums, it was really bad.

“I was out of here and to be thrown a lifeline in Perth and to achieve this … it’s unbelievable.”

1,650 immigrants per day wrecking the quality of life in UK: Poll

London, July 14(ANI): A major poll has found that almost half of all Brits consider the record 1,650 immigrants settling in every day are wrecking the quality of life in UK.

The YouGov poll, commissioned by Optimum Population Trust, also found that two-thirds of the 2,000 people demanded a limit imposed to stem the flow of immigrants to stop population explosion, The Daily Star reports.

Further, the poll revealed that almost 74 per cent blamed Britain’s open-door policies for clogged roads and crowded trains and buses.

Migrants were also blamed for the lack of affordable housing and were regarded as a strain on public services like school and hospitals.

“The poll demonstrates public unhappiness at the pressure on public services,” Shadow Immigration Minister Damian Green said.

“It shows why we badly need an annual limit on immigration,” he added.Meanwhile, Immigration Minister Phil Woolas has said that UK’s new points-based system would ensure that only the people Britain needs would be allowed to work and study. (ANI)

A. R. Rahman working with Mick Jagger, Joss Stone

London, May 5 (ANI): Mick Jagger and Joss Stone have reportedly joined hands once again to compose sweet music, and this time they are being helped by Oscar-winning Indian composer A.R. Rahman.

Their first collaboration occurred in 2004 on track Lonely Without You, for the soundtrack to the movie Alfie.

Their next songs are expected to be even more special, as they are said to have been working with Bob Marley’s sons Damian and Stephen, Rahman, and rapper NAS.

The duo’s new album is expected to be issued on the UN’s International Day Of Peace, September 21.

“Joss and Mick hit it off when they worked with producer Dave Stewart on the Alfie soundtrack, so were keen to collaborate again,” the Sun quoted a source as saying.

“When this project was suggested they were keen to get on board, especially considering the glittering cast of other musicians involved,” the source revealed.

The bass for the recordings is being played by musician Shiah Coore, who is currently said to be dating Joss

“Shiah was dating someone else when he met Joss, but their attraction was so strong he ended it with his previous partner. They have been seeing each other for three months now and things are going really well,” the source said.

The musicians are currently hard at work at the Los Angeles studio complex established by Muppets creator Jim Henson.

U2 frontman BONO is also involved in the project, and has been recording separately with Damian. (ANI)

Have your say: Gordon Brown

Damian McBride resigned after admitting sending “juvenile and inappropriate” emails from his Downing Street account to former spin doctor Derek Draper.

In the private missives, the two men discussed setting up an “attack blog” called Red Rag that would have spread unfounded gossip about Conservative opponents.

According to the Sunday Times, the mooted stories are all vehemently denied.

Shadow home secretary Chris Grayling branded the stories “blatant lies cooked up in Downing Street”, and asked who else had been aware the talks were taking place.

Mr Grayling said: “The detail of these emails that is now emerging is shocking and completely unacceptable.

“These are blatant lies cooked up in Downing Street by one of the Prime Minister’s key advisers.

“Mr Brown hasn’t even had the decency to apologise. His statement this afternoon was unacceptable.

“This is an exceptionally serious matter and he needs to explain immediately what happened and how such defamatory comments came to be issued from Downing street.”

A Downing Street spokesman said: “Neither the Prime Minister, nor anybody else in Downing St, had knowledge of these emails.

“It is the Prime Minister’s view that there is no place in politics for the dissemination or publication of material of this kind, which is why it is right that Mr McBride and Mr Draper took the decision not to publish this material and regrettable that others are choosing to do so.”

Mr McBride added: “I have already apologised for the inappropriate and juvenile content of my emails, and the offence they have caused, but I did not want these stories in the public domain – it is because Paul Staines has put them there, and I am sickened that he has done so.

“However, we all know that when a backroom adviser becomes the story, their position becomes untenable, so I have willingly offered my resignation.”

How Brown aide went about his Tory smear campaign

London, Apr.13 (ANI): Damian McBride, Downing Street’s head of strategy and planning, sent e-mails in January to the Labour blogger Derek Draper suggesting a smear campaign against the Tories using a proposed new website, RedRag.

In the first e-mail, sent on 13 January, McBride writes: “Gents, a few ideas I have been working on for RedRag. For ease, I’ve written all the below as I’d write them for the site.”

The ideas contained in the e-mail include spreading several false rumours: that David Cameron had an embarrassing medical condition; that George Osborne took drugs with a prostitute – an old allegation in the public domain which Osborne has flatly denied; allegations of a sexual nature about the Tory backbencher Nadine Dorries, which she vehemently denies and has consulted her lawyers about; and about a Tory MP allegedly getting publicity for a firm run by his partner. There is no evidence that any of the claims are true.

Draper responded 20 minutes later: “Absolutely totally brilliant Damian. I’ll think about timing and sort out the technology this week so we can go as soon as possible.”

McBride sent a second e-mail later the same month, offering “a couple more thoughts on stories”.

On the false rumour of Cameron’s medical condition, McBride suggests challenging Cameron to publish his “full financial and medical records”, and to spread gossip that he may have suffered from a sexually transmitted disease. He suggested, “inserting [a] picture of Dr Christian Jessen”, who appears on the Channel 4 programme Embarrassing Bodies. There is no suggestion that the two men know each other.

McBride’s other idea is to falsely hint at the existence of embarrassing photographs of Osborne from his university days.

According to The Guardian, in a reference to pictures published in 2005 of Osborne with a prostitute, Natalie Rowe, taken 12 years earlier, and a notorious Bullingdon Club photograph of Osborne taken when he was at Oxford, McBride writes: “Embarrassing photos have followed George Osborne around throughout his career: posing in his Bullingdon Club uniform at Oxford, lying on the carpet at home in his permed mullet playing Monopoly with his fellow viscounts and standing in an … embrace with a prostitute at a party in London. But he knows that the most embarrassing photos from his past have yet to emerge.”

McBride suggests that the website spread false rumours that pictures exist of Osborne “posing in a bra, knickers and suspenders” and “with his face ‘blacked up’”.

“He wouldn’t be the first student to do some cross-dressing at university. But … why would a student in the late 1980s black up his face for the amusement of friends in their private college rooms? This in the era when young Tories wore ‘Hang Mandela’ T-shirts.”

McBride writes: “If you think these work, let’s think about how to sequence them in with the others.” He admits that one of his ideas “is a bit of poetic licence” but is based on “what we know” about the prostitute with whom Osborne was pictured.

“It will put the fear of God into Osborne,” he adds. He suggests spreading rumours that “secret tapes” exist containing evidence that Osborne had sex with the prostitute. The shadow chancellor has always denied having any physical relationship with Rowe or taking any drugs with her.

Apart from targeting Tory leaders, McBride suggests running stories of a sexual nature about Nadine Dorries, a Tory backbench MP.(ANI)

One in seven migrant Brit pupils do not speak English as their first language

London, Mar.18 (ANI): One in seven migrant pupils in the United Kingdom does not speak English, even as the number of immigrant children in primary schools has soared by 25 per cent in five years.
According to The Sun, around 566,000 primary children now have a foreign language as their mother tongue – up by 113,500 since 2004.

And 349,000 secondary school kids – 10 per cent – normally speak a foreign language, taking the total to more than 915,000.
Shadow immigration minister Damian Green uncovered the figures.

He said: “This shows how difficult life is for many teachers because of the Government’s long-term failure to control immigration. The number of pupils with English as a second language makes life difficult for teachers, parents and pupils.”
Teachers’ leaders have already warned that staff in some schools is struggling to cope with children who speak a dozen or more languages between them.

It is estimated that 240 languages are spoken in England’s schools. Punjabi is the most common, with more than 102,000 pupils having it as their first language in primaries and secondaries.

Earlier this year it emerged there were ten schools where no youngsters spoke English as their first language. ritics warn that there is a growing danger of children growing up in communities where they have virtually no contact with English-speaking kids.

The Department for Children, Schools and Families said last night it was taking steps to deal with the problem. (ANI)
