Convicted drug dealer asks for sex in UK prison!

London, May 18 (ANI): A convicted drug dealer in Britain has been making demands for sex in the prison to be allowed, stating that convicts in the UK are being denied their basic human rights.

Christopher Pollock, 37, who was previously in jail in Spain for supplying vast amounts of drugs, said European cons were allowed conjugal visits.

Pollock, whose gang made millions dealing speed and cannabis in the UK, wrote to prison bosses that the UK prison service should ”come into line with Europe”, and he even quoted Winston Churchill.

“I would like to know why prisoners in England and Wales are not permitted conjugal visits when this practice is widespread in other European countries,” the Sun quoted him as saying.

“Indeed, whilst spending some time in a Spanish jail, such visits were recognised as being important to the family unit.

“Surely they should be introduced here as a reward for good behaviour. It makes a mockery of the justice system when partners are being made to suffer unnecessarily.

“To quote Winston Churchill, ”The humanity of a society can be judged by the treatment of its prisoners”,” he added.

But the Ministry of Justice put him in his place by saying said that although it “understood his frustrations”, however conjugal visits in the UK are banned.

“Our position on this is due to the need to restrict prisoners” activities and freedom of association in a way which maintains the effectiveness of imprisonment and the criminal justice system and sustains public confidence,” a spokesman said.

Pollock, of Coventry, was caged for three years and three months after admitting conspiracy to import and supply amphetamine and cannabis at Birmingham Crown Court in April this year.

When he completes his sentence in the UK he will be extradited to Spain – where prisoners are allowed three hour long conjugal visits once-a-month – to serve a further six year prison sentence for drug trafficking.

“He has the cheek to quote Winston Churchill and bang on about his human rights without even a thought for all those hundreds of people he brought misery to by dealing drugs,” a prison source said.

“He will just have to wait until he gets to Spain to serve another six years before he is allowed the company of a woman. Maybe that will teach him a lesson,” the source added. (ANI)

Man City turn to Hungary’s Fulop to solve ‘keeper crisis

Manchester City have lined up Hungarian international Marton Fulop on loan from Premier League rivals Sunderland to resolve a goalkeeping crisis threatening their bid for a Champions League qualifying place.

A spokesman for the Abu Dhabi owned club said the 26-year-old was expected to join City for training later on Wednesday once the deal had been finalised.

Ireland international Shay Given, the club’s regular goalkeeper, was ruled out for the season after dislocating his shoulder in a 0-0 draw at Arsenal at the weekend.

The club’s reserve keeper Stuart Taylor is recovering from knee surgery which left only 23-year-old Gunnar Nielsen, who stood in on Saturday as the first player from the Faroe Islands to appear in the Premier League.

City also have Joe Hart on loan to Birmingham City but said they had failed to reach an agreement to recall him after talks on Tuesday.

Fulop is used to playing on loan — having had stints at Chesterfield, Coventry and Sunderland while on Tottenham Hotspur’s books and then joining Leicester and Stoke from Sunderland.

The Hungarian is expected to play against Aston Villa at home on Saturday. City have three games remaining and are sixth in the league, a point behind fourth-placed Tottenham and Villa and one ahead of Liverpool.

Brit girl finds porn on her repaired mobile

London, Mar 24 (ANI): A British student is said to have been left horrified after the mobile she sent for repair came back full of porn.

Lauren Kennedy, 18, found her Nokia packed with sleazy homemade videos of couples and groups having sex and women pleasuring themselves.

The phone contained 13 pictures of young women in lingerie and 10 videos between five and 10 minutes long featuring a variety of X-rated scenes.

Kennedy, from Coventry, says she was “deeply traumatised” by the images she discovered on the handset after she sent it for repair to Carphone Warehouse because it kept cutting out mid-call.

“I was disgusted. I wouldn’t have rubbish like that on my mobile. I’m a young girl, I don’t want naked pictures on my phone,” the Mirror quoted her as saying.

“I think it’s revolting that somebody has had their filthy paws on my mobile phone. They have recorded themselves doing everything.

“You can only see the women and not the person recording it, but you can hear him egging them on,” she added.

The company has offered Lauren a new Blackberry Curve as compensation.

A spokesman apologised and said the firm has launched an “urgent investigation”. (ANI)

Gayle fires as Windies cruise home

West Indies wrapped up a 4-1 series win over Zimbabwe on Sunday with a crushing four wicket victory in the final game of the one-day series at Arnos Vale, St Vincent.

Zimbabwe, which had won the opening game of the series, recovered from 5 for 25 to make 161 all out in its 50 overs with Charles Coventry leading the recovery with his 56.

West Indies skipper Chris Gayle, knowing the series was already won, again took a positive approach as he blasted 63 from 41 balls.

When Gayle departed the home side was well on its way at 2 for 96 in just the 16th over.

Zimbabwe though once again forced a wobble in the West Indies middle order with a mini-collapse bringing the Caribbean team to 5 for 104.

But Kieron Pollard and Denesh Ramdin recaptured the momentum with a bright partnership of 49 runs from 34 balls with Pollard particularly aggressive in his knock of 36 from 20 balls, including three sixes.

Ronaldo may soon crush Becks in battle of brands

London, August 21 (ANI): Football ace Cristiano Ronaldo, 24, may soon outstrip ageing England hero David Beckham, 34, for the number of commercial deals to his name, says a report.

The suggestion came after LA Galaxy fans heckled Beckham and his wife Victoria at the weekend.

“Beckham, because of his age and the stage of his career, has lost it. And Ronaldo is ideally placed to ass-ume the mantle of ‘brand Beckham’, especially among young kids and teenagers,” the Daily Star quoted sports branding expert Prof Simon Chadwick, from Coventry University, as saying.

Ronaldo has already bared his chest in ads for Pepe Jeans. He has also campaigned for Nike, Coca-Cola, video game FIFA Street 2, and energy drink Extra Joss.

The news report further reveals that Ronaldo raked in 12million pounds a year at Manchester United from product endorsements, compared with Becks’ 25.5million pounds in his heyday.

He has also been snapped up as a “global ambassador” for engine oil firm Castrol.

However, how much money goes into his banks will eventually depend on his performance on the pitch, says the report.

Veteran football agent Jon Holms said: “Ronaldo is probably a better player than Beckham. Beckham is a workhorse of a player, while Ronaldo seems to be more natural.” (ANI)

The ‘miracle’ boy who died 18 times celebrates his first b’day

Melbourne, Aug 13 (ANI): A Brit baby boy has defied all odds after he died 18 times and lived to celebrate his first birthday.

Baby Warwick had been born with extreme complications, and his parents Leigh Dumighan, 36, and David Newcombe were told that he would have an appalling life ahead of him if he survived.

His parents were also warned that if Warwick pulled through he would still be severely disabled, not be able to see, hear, move around, or even know who they were.

The Coventry couple were forced to make the hardest decision of their lives, choosing to take him out of his incubator, withdraw his treatment and allow him to die with dignity in their arms.

They stayed with him in a private hospital room for eight days, giving him the cuddles they had been unable to and waiting for him to pass away.

But Warwick fought to survive and, despite ceasing to breathe 18 times, he lived to celebrate his first birthday, which his parents thought they would never see.

While little Warwick has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy, he is neither blind, deaf and has escaped other problems predicted for him.

“When we took the decision to let him pass away, it was the hardest thing we have ever had to do,” News.com.au quoted Leigh as saying.

“The prognosis was highly likely that he would be deaf, blind, bedridden and quadriplegic – the quality of life he would have had would have just been unbearable.

“That’s why we decided to take him off treatment, I knew he’d had enough. We wanted to give him all the cuddles and kisses every baby needs and deserves without all the wires and pain.

“The hospital gave us a private room to say goodbye in and told us to get him baptised as quickly as possible.

“He was on a do not resuscitate order but he seemed to start himself back up. Warwick brought himself back to life, they didn’t even expect him to last one night – he had no drugs or treatment, nothing.

“What happened to Warwick is a pure miracle, it’s as simple as that,” she said.

Doctors allowed Leigh and David to take tiny Warwick home to their house in Coventry when he weighed just 1.4kg on September 5.

And three months later he was given the all clear by medics, who said he was not going to die.

“We went to hospital on October 6 and saw a heart specialist and brain specialist,” Leigh, who is now involved with baby charity Bliss, said.

“That’s when we had the amazing news that the heart infection had completely cleared up and that he was going to survive.

“Now when people see him who don’t know he has the palsy they have no idea there is anything wrong with him at all.

“When he gets older I know he will be able to crawl and talk and the fact he is celebrating his birthday is amazing when you think about what has happened to him.

“A year ago we made the right decision – I know that because he survived. He is not meant to be here, but he is and I think it is a miracle.

“I hope his story just gives hope to other mums of premature babies,” she added. (ANI)

Meet the 7yr-old agony aunt who solves adults’ problems on radio

London, Apr 3 (ANI): While most kids of her age love to go out and play, 7-year-old Elaina Smith found solving adults’ emotional problems on the radio to be a better pastime.

She became the youngest radio agony aunt after she replied to breakfast show host Andy Goulding’s request to listeners for advice for a woman going through a break-up.

The young girl called up the station and told the woman to go out bowling with friends and to drink a mug of milk.

Her solution proved so popular that she was given a weekly slot on the show, where she now counsels thousands of adult listeners.

Smith, who lives in Coventry, says that her advice is always “whatever comes into my head, and people like what I say,” and that she was inspired to help others after her cousin was bullied at school.

“I tried to help him and that made me want to help other people too,” the Daily Express quoted her as saying.

“When people tell me their problems on the radio, I think about it very hard and very deep down inside of me and then give them my answer.

“I always have an answer,” she said.

Goulding has revealed that adults respond well to the seven-year-old girl’s straight-talking attitude.

“The advice Elaina offers is laid-back and honest,” he said.

“We’ve been inundated with people emailing us with their problems since she’s been on our show.

“Within a minute of us broadcasting her first slot, a woman in hospital phoned in saying how much she enjoyed hearing the little girl’s voice. It really cheered her up,” he added.

Elaina’s mother Karen Harris, 31, recalled her daughter’s reaction when she first heard Goulding.

“Elaina told me she wanted to phone in so we called and I was surprised with what she came out with,” she said.

“She’s full of confidence and the advice just comes off the top of her head.

“I see a future for her in radio,” she added. (ANI)

78yr-old bachelor chases away 2 burglars with a bugle!

London, Mar 27 (ANI): A 78-year-old man chased away two burglars with a bugle, when they tried to rob his house.

Alex Wade, a bachelor who lives alone in Coventry, West midlands, did not know that his idea of keeping a bugle by his pillow incase of an emergency would come handy one day, as it helped him chase away two young burglars with it.

Wade revealed that the burglars broke into his house through a window at about 2:40 am, but had to run away empty-handed when he sounded the bugle on the face of one of the burglars.

“I was lying in bed and heard the front window smash and heard people talking. At first I thought I was dreaming. I keep a bugle by my pillow in case anything like this happens so I reached over and grabbed it. I went to my bedroom door. I yelled into the hallway ‘who’s there?’ and then the two little scoundrels started talking among themselves,” the Telegraph quoted Wade as saying.

“I opened my door and walked into the hallway and blew the bugle as loud as I could into one of the lad’s faces. He looked absolutely startled and they both panicked and raced out the front door,” he added.

The police of West Midlands have applauded Wade for his daring act.

“This was an instinctive action from the man which has caused the offenders to flee the scene,” Detective Inspector Bob Petipher, of West Midlands Police, said.

“It prevented any more possessions being taken from the house and they were swiftly arrested,” he added.

Wade, who made the bugle from an old-fashioned car horn after a spate of break-ins in his neighborhood, is happy with the instrument, which proved very helpful.

“It’s is the best burglar alarm a man can have. Now the neighbors will always know if I’m in trouble,” he said. (ANI)

Hiddink orders Cole to end his nightlife escapades

London, Mar 7 (ANI): Chelsea coach Guus Hiddink has ordered Ashley Cole to end his nightlife escapades, admitting that he was “amazed” to have to lay down the law to such an experienced player.

Cole will be fined two weeks’ wages – about 164,000 pounds. Cole and and club skipper John Terry were left under no illusions by Hiddink that their late-night adventures will not be tolerated.

England full-back Cole will still figure in today’s FA Cup sixth-round clash at Coventry, but only because deputy Paulo Ferreira is injured.

Cole and Terry were given a blistering dressing down on Friday by Hiddink, who also rebuked Michael Mancienne.

The trio were out in the early hours of Thursday when Cole was arrested after abusing police officers as he left a South Kensington nightclub. He was fined and released at 5.37 a.m., after three hours’ cooling off at Chelsea police station. iddink confessed he was stunned that two such experienced England players like Cole and Terry, both at the centre of embarrassing late-night episodes in the past, had blundered once more.

“I’ve spoken firmly with Ashley,” said Hiddink. “There are rules. I am disappointed. It’s simple; you must not repeat that kind of behaviour.

“He’s been involved in some other harassments. Everyone should know where their responsibility is. Physically he is fine to play. Mentally he was a little bit out of order – I don’t know how comfortable a bed is in a police cell, so I’m not sure if he rested well or not.

“I cannot and will not control their private lives. They must be intelligent people to have success at a big club. I am not a police officer, nor am I a father figure,” Hiddink said. (ANI)

Deal to save jobs at TATA-owned Jaguar on anvil

London, Feb.25 (ANI): A deal to save hundreds of jobs at the TATA-owned carmaker Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is on the anvil.ccording to Sky News, the deal with the unions should save JLR 60 million pounds.

Staff at the firm has been voting on proposals to cut their hours and freeze pay in exchange for the guarantee of no compulsory redundancies for two years.

Under the deal, workers would work a four-day week, with hours cut from 35 hours to 32. They would also give up bonuses and have their pay frozen until October 2010.

The proposals have been hammered out between the unions and Jaguar Land Rover bosses.

“We’re very clear about what our requests are and we’ll see what response we get at that time,” Jaguar boss David Smith was quoted, as saying.

Some workers voted on Monday on the proposals – others were voting on Tuesday – and the result is due to be announced on Thursday.

Union bosses told Sky News they are confident staff will back the deal.

JLR is based in Gaydon, Warwickshire, and employs about 15,000 people in Castle Bromwich, Coventry, Solihull, and Halewood in Merseyside.

Jaguar cut 450 jobs in January and like other carmakers has held production suspensions. (ANI)

Txting dznt harm kids’ literacy

London, Feb 23 (ANI): Concerns have been raised that an increase in the use of ‘textisms’ like ‘wot u doin 2nite?’ and ‘waz up’ could be damaging children’s reading and spelling ability. But, a new study has shown that frequent use of text abbreviations does not harm kids’ literacy – and may even improve it.

For the study, Beverly Plester and her colleagues at Coventry University in the UK asked 88 children aged 10 to 12 to write text messages describing 10 different scenarios.

When they compared the number of textisms used to a separate study of the children’s reading ability, they found that those who used more textisms were better readers.

Plester said that preliminary results of the follow-up study seem to suggest that textisms improve literacy.

She believes that this is because textisms are phonetically based.

“Phonological awareness has long been associated with good reading skills,” New Scientist quoted Plester, as saying.

Exposure to the written word in any form is also linked to improved literacy.

“These kids are engaging with more written language and they’re doing it for fun,” Plester added.

The study has been published in the British Journal of Developmental Psychology. (ANI)

Anelka nets hat-trick in front of Hiddink as Chelsea reach quarters

Anelka nets hat-trick in front of Hiddink as Chelsea reach quarters London – Nicolas Anelka scored a superb second-half hat- trick as Chelsea came from behind to beat Watford 3-1 in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Tamas Priskin had put Championship side Watford ahead at 69 minutes but French striker Anelka, with new Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink watching from the stands, scored twice in two minutes (75 and 77).

Anelka then completed his hat-trick in injury time to seal his side’s place in the last eight of football’s oldest club competition.

Blackburn Rovers needed a last-minute goal to avoid an upset as they salvaged a 2-2 draw at home to Coventry City, while Fulham and Hull City will both require replays. West Ham United came from behind to force a 1-1 draw with fellow Premier League side Middlesbrough.

Assistant manager Ray Wilkins took charge of the Chelsea team in name, but with Hiddink, who has taken over from Luiz Felipe Scolari until the end of the season, observing, the players all wanted to put on a show for the Dutchman.

With Didier Drogba looking like a new man, the visitors began well. He set up Anelka for a shot in the first half that hit the post. At the other end, Jobi McAnuff was causing problems for a defence that was missing the suspended John Terry.

Chelsea continued to dominate possession into the second half. But it was the introduction of Hungarian substitute Tamas Priskin that gave Watford the lead. Released down the left, Priskin brilliantly chipped Petr Cech to send the home fans wild.

With 20 minutes to go, a massive upset looked a real possibility, but Anelka had other ideas. First, on 75 minutes, he hooked in a corner to level the scores and then, one minute later, he headed Ashley Cole’s cross into the bottom corner.

And after Watford had gone close to an equalizer, Anelka made it 3-1 with his third goal, finishing off Salomon Kalou’s pass to seal the victory.

At Ewood Park, it looked as if Coventry would get the better of Rovers for the second successive season. But a mistake in the dying seconds cost the Championship side dear.

Roque Santa Cruz gave the home side the perfect start with the opening goal after just two minutes, but Aron Gunnarsson volleyed a fine equalizer on 61 minutes and Michael Doyle put the visitors ahead 14 minutes from time.

But with time running out, stand-in goalkeeper Andy Marshall could not hold a shot from Keith Tracey and Christopher Samba fired in the rebound.

“I have got no problems with the result. I just have a bit of a problem that we cannot see teams off when we have an opportunity,” Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce said.

“We have started to ship too many goals at Ewood and that is becoming one of our Achilles heels.”

Jason Scotland scored his 12th goal in 12 games to force a replay for Championship side Swansea City after their 1-1 draw with Fulham.

Fulham took the lead just before half-time through an own goal by Swansea captain Garry Monk, but Mark Gower found Scotland, who fired an excellent equaliser into the bottom corner.

“Sometimes you don’t get the results your performances deserve and today was one of those days. We were the better side by miles,” Swansea manager Roberto Martinez said.

“We scored a good goal and can take a lot of positives from a game against a side from the Premier League that is in the right end of the table.

“But you need to win when you play like that, no matter who you are playing against.”

Kamil Zayette scored the equalizer as Hull drew 1-1 at Sheffield United, while West Ham had Herita Ilunga to thank for their goal in a 1-1 draw at home with Middlesbrough.

On Sunday, favourites Manchester United travel to Derby, while Everton play Aston Villa. (dpa)
