Harassed by cops, sisters attempt suicide; one dead

Bhopal, May 27 (IANS) A 13-year-old girl in Madhya Pradesh died while her elder sister was battling for life Thursday after the duo attempted suicide following harassment by two constables, who had allegedly clicked obscene photographs of one of them.

The incident took place in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur district, about 350 km from here.

While the younger sibling died Wednesday, the elder one is being treated at a hospital in Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh, police said Thursday.

Two police constables, Kanhaiyalal and Arvind Patel, had allegedly caught the elder sister with her boyfriend May 21 in a deserted area. The cops snatched the mobile phone of the boyfriend and forced him to leave the place, an official said.

They then allegedly molested the girl and clicked some obscene photographs of hers from the mobile phone.

Next day, the girl filed a written complaint with Chhatarpur Additional Superintendent of Police Sushil Tiwari stating that the constables had clicked obscene photographs of hers and were harassing her.

‘On receipt of the complaint, I checked the cell phones of the constables but there was nothing objectionable,’ Tiwari told IANS.

‘However, the constables were suspended with immediate effect and a departmental enquiry was ordered against them,’ he added.

The sisters had told their neighbours that the constables had come to their house Wednesday and were harassing them, police said.

Superintendent of Police Prem Singh Bist said one of the constables accused of harassing the sisters suffered a heart attack on hearing that the girls attempted suicide.

US woman attacks restaurant worker with stun gun for wrong order

Melbourne, May 20 (ANI): An American woman is said to have attacked a restaurant worker with a stun gun after her drive through order went wrong.

According to the Smoking Gun, Melanese Reid, 20, reportedly became enraged after fast food workers at Wendy’s restaurant at Daytona Beach failed to provide her with the requisite number of mustard and mayonnaise packets, reports the Daily Telegraph.

Reid and Katrina Bryant, 23, argued with Wendy’s drive-thru employee Jason Hill (and called him “bitch” and “faggot”).

A statement tendered to police said Hill “told them that they were childish and to leave”.

Reid then attempted to slap Hill, but the worker was able to deflect her hand. At that point, witnesses told cops, Reid and Bryant exited their red 4WD and entered the Wendy’s.

While inside, Reid, armed with a pink stun gun, chased Hill around the kitchen/employee area of the restaurant with the Taser turned on and making the ‘electric’ noises.

For her part, Bryant “cheered (Reid) on” while continuing the previous argument using “profane and discriminatory language”.

After Hill escaped, the women fled when a Wendy’s manager announced that she was calling police.

Reid and Bryant were arrested later and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a felony.

The stun gun was recovered from one of the women’s purses. (ANI)

Brit couple given Asbos – to stop them from fighting with each other!ý

London, May 13 (ANI): A couple, whose domestic feuds disturbed their neighbours for three years, has been given Anti-Social Behaviour Order to stop them from fighting.

On many occasions, the neighbours had called cops when Dean Jones and his wife Jeanette Lloyd swore and fought with each other.

Apparently, the people living next doors could not sit in gardens “enjoying sunshine, barbecues or paddling pools”.

“Some people detailed almost daily occurrences of shouting and screaming matches lasting an hour or more, with vile abuse and threats,” the Sun quoted prosecutor Jonathan Barrett, as saying.

Barrett added: “Neighbours were unable to sleep. The stress led them to fear for their own well-being and safety.”

Now, the pair has been put under two-year ASBOs by JPs at Rhondda court, South Wales.

If they clash again they can be arrested.

One neighbour said: “We hope they”ll just calm down now – and shut up.”

However, Jones, of Tonypandy, said the case was “a fuss over nothing”.

He said: “What we do in the privacy of our own house is up to us. I don”t think we”re louder than anyone else. We love each other really.”

Jones and Lloyd have three daughters together. (ANI)

Man dressed as Snoopy attempts ”world”s worst” prison break

London, May 10 (ANI): Cops in the UK have arrested a man who was trying to break into a prison after slipping into a Snoopy costume.

“It””s not every day you see a giant cartoon dog going on the rampage after trying to break into a prison,” the Sun quoted a prison service source, as saying.

The insider added: “They weren””t exactly inconspicuous – but it was taken seriously because they appeared to have a gun. They caused a real commotion and it was only later they were found to be armed with a water pistol.”

After the duo were collared by the police, it emerged that they had targeted the wrong jail.

Snoopy and his accomplice had tried to get into HMP Isle of Wight””s Albany site while the family member they wanted to free was banged up in the complex””s Camp Hill jail.

The source said: “They are very close together but this has got to rank as one of the worst attempted jail breaks ever.” (ANI)

Britain”s youngest voter explains why he broke the law

London, May 10 (ANI): A teen, who voted in the UK General Election 2010 despite being underage by four years, has opened up about his experience.

According to Alfie McKenzie, 14, from Lancashire, he decided to vote against the Conservatives in his area after receiving a polling card in error.

“I dressed as much like a Tory as I could manage: a trench coat, reading glasses, sharp shoes,” Sky News quoted McKenzie, as writing in the Observer.

He went on: “I gave it my slightly eccentric aristocrat”s walk and my best self-righteous Conservative accent, walked into St Hilda”s polling station, went straight to the table and was directed to the slip which I was to cross.”

The schoolgoer said his secret came to light only after he told a teacher at school who reported him to the cops and the local council.

McKenzie said: “When the police arrived, I came across way too informed and understanding to claim ignorance; the burly officer”s patronising tone lowered as our interview progressed.

“Fortunately, it seems that I”m not going to be prosecuted.”

He added: “It seems I have become the first 14-year-old to vote in a General Election and, if we”re to keep some faith in our voting system and the competence of its managers, hopefully the last.” (ANI)

Cops, thieves, ordinary people apply different logic when making decisions

Washington, May 5 (ANI): Police officers and criminals are more consistent in their judgements than ordinary people, according to a new study.

However, police officers’ reasoning is more similar to that of ordinary people than to that of thieves.

This conclusion might have significant implications on criminal jurisdiction. For the purpose of this study, a 120-people sample was taken. The sample consisted of 40 expert criminals, 40 expert policemen and 40 students unrelated to criminal activities

The study conducted by the University of Granada, in collaboration with the University of Cambridge, revealed that policemen and ordinary people reason differently than criminals when making decisions. That is, they reason in different ways.

The research was conducted by Rocío García-Retamero from the Department of Experimental Psychology and Behavioural Physiology of the University of Granada, and Mandeep K. Dhabi from the Institute of Criminology (University of Cambridge, United Kingdom). (ANI)

Brit girl risks Dubai jail by telling cops she was raped after boozy night out

London, April 19 (ANI): A British girl is said to have risked being jailed in Dubai by telling cops that she was raped after a boozy night out.

The 24-year-old trading company executive, who has been identified only as Lucy, said that the 30-year-old Arab man insisted on giving her a lift home after a night out drinking with pals at the Dubai Marina.

And then he allegedly drove her to the remote area and attacked her, before taking her back to her flat and raping her again on her bed.

The accused man told police that she agreed to sleep with him, and now if her account of what happened is not believed, she could face prison for drinking and having sex outside marriage in the strict Muslim state.

“She told police she screamed and cried out begging him to stop during both attacks which were entirely against her will,” the Sun quoted a Dubai court source as saying.

“She went straight to the nearest police station and reported the sex attack at 3.20am the same day,” the source said.

Cops were immediately able to find the alleged attacker, named only as Saif, as the woman had saved his mobile number when they were introduced earlier in the night.

“The case will be heard in full before a judge who will decide who is telling the truth, but the girl may face difficulties if her story is not believed,” the source revealed.

“She is still regarded as the victim at this stage, though she has already admitted being drunk, which is itself an offence in Dubai.

“And if the court finds in the man”s favour, she could face a charge of having unlawful sex as well which might land her in jail for a year followed by deportation,” the source added.

The alleged rape in January is the latest to spark anxiety among ex-pats in Dubai.

A date for the rape trial will be set later this year. (ANI)
