Metallica fiasco: Organisers arrested, sent to jail

GURGAON : Four people, including a top official of the company organising the Metallica concert here, were sent to six days’ police custody after being arrested early Saturday on charges of cheating and breach of trust, officials said. The administration has also seized the Rs 1 crore security money deposited by the firm.

DNA Entertainment Networks, the event management company organising the concert, had on Friday cancelled the event at the last moment. Over 25,000 fans had gathered at the Leisure Valley Park here in Sector 29 to watch the concert, the opener for the ‘F1 Rocks’ series of performances for the Formula-1 race event at Greater Noida.

Upset over the cancellation, the fans had vandalised the stage and broke down barricades. Technical equipment, too, were destroyed as they threw chairs at the LED wall.

Police registered a case against DNA Entertainment Networks on the complaint of Gurgaon-resident Chanderpal Yadav, who had paid Rs 1 lakh for 10 tickets.

Rajesh Kumar, the general manager of DNA Networks, was arrested along with team members Umesh Chinara, Ashok Singh and Savio Faleiro, Gurgaon Sector 29 Station House Officer Jagdish Prasad said.

They were arrested under Section 406 (breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code, Prasad said.

The four were presented in the court of magistrate Ashok Mann Saturday evening. Police had demanded 15 days’ custody for them, but the court agreed for six days’ remand.

Deputy Commissioner Police (east) Maheshwar Dayal said: “Some more arrests may be possible.”

“The tickets for the show were priced at Rs.10,000 (first class), Rs.2,750 and Rs.1,750. The fans had come from many cities and also countries like Bangladesh, China, Nepal, Indonesia and Singapore.

“Although there was no sitting arrangement at the venue, people were charged for first, second and third class, out of an estimated 30,000 tickets sold. More than 8,000 tickets were sold for the first class itself, which means they cheated fans of more than Rs.8 crore,” Dayal added.

Meanwhile, the district administration has begun the process to blacklist the company.

Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate P C Meena said: “We have served notice to DNA Entertainment to provide us a detailed payment refund plan in three days. We have also seized Rs 1 crore, the corporate guarantee money deposited by the company.”

The four-member American band, among the most famous heavy metal bands in the world, was to Friday stage its first ever performance in India.

Metallica is slated to perform in Bangalore on Sunday.

MJ Vienna tribute gig postponed

London, September 12 (ANI): The concert in honour of Michael Jackson slated to take place in Vienna this month has been rearranged for London in June next year.

The singer’s brother Jermaine previously named a host of artists who would perform at the tribute that was set to take place in front of former imperial Schoenbrunn Palace on September 26.

But the former ‘Jackson 5′ member revealed many top artists were unavailable for the date due to prior commitments.

“Numerous stars were just not able to change their schedules to make a live appearance at the Vienna event possible,” the BBC quoted him as saying.

He added: “Many artists and performers who I have spoken to personally told me that it would be a great honour to be part of this memorial concert for my late brother.

“However, due to the short time-frame it was not possible for many of them to change their schedule so that they could be on stage in Vienna on 26 September, therefore we decided, after careful consideration, to change the date of the tribute concert to June 2010 – just a few weeks before the first anniversary of his untimely death.

“Now we have eight months to put this monumental show together and not just eight weeks.”

Organisers World Tribute Productions promised a refund to all ticket holders for the Vienna concert.

Spokeswoman Nina Elland also said: “We need time to confirm the location. We are definitely moving to London and Wembley Stadium is our favourite location.” (ANI)

Jermaine Jackson backtracks on Chris Brown tribute announcement

London, September 10 (ANI): Jermaine Jackson has climbed down from his announcement that Chris Brown would form a part of the forthcoming concert in honour of his late brother Michael.

The former ‘Jackson 5′ member previously revealed Brown would be among a host of other artists to perform at the tribute set to take place in front of Vienna’s former imperial Schoenbrunn Palace on September 26.

But representatives for Brown, who is presently on probation for assaulting ex-girlfriend Rihanna earlier this year, subsequently denied the story, reports the Daily Express.

And now, Jackson has backtracked on his earlier announcement, saying he was only inviting the shamed singer to perform.

The 54-year-old said in a second press conference in London that he was not announcing headline acts but would like to see Brown be part of the show if he is allowed out of the U.S.

He said: “It’s up to the judge if he gets let out of the country or not. I’m not worried at all. He wants to be here. It’s just up to what he’s going through with his court case right now.

“He’s asked for forgiveness. If Christ can forgive him, so can we. People make mistakes, but he’s a wonderful performer.” (ANI)

Lily Allen’s amputation fears after falling on her tailbone

Washington, Sep 2 (ANI): Brit singer Lily Allen has revealed that after she fell on her coccyx (tailbone), she feared that she would have to get her legs amputated.

Allen, 24, who describes the fall as “the most painful thing ever”, thought the injury would leave her paralysed, and she kept on crying throughout a concert in Helsinki, Finland, last month, because she was in so much pain after tripping over during an evening out.

“It really was the most painful thing ever. It was really horrible, because I had one of my security guys with me, and he said he turned around and just saw these two feet sticking out of the floor, in the air,” Contactmusic quoted her as saying.

“You know when you fall over your natural reaction is to get straight back up again? But I was in so much pain I thought I was paralysed or something. I mean, I really thought that I was going to have to have my legs cut off,” she said.

The ‘Smile’ singer had fallen while watching two DJ friends working.

She was “crouching” behind the decks so other partygoers wouldn’t see she was there when she slipped, and fell backwards off the stage.

“They basically gave me what I can describe as like an epidural, and yes, it numbed from my knees to my lower back to get through this show,” she explained to Absolute Radio’s Geoff Lloyd.

“But then half-way through the performance the thing started running out and I just burst into tears on stage. It was so horrible. I was sobbing real toddler tears,” she added. (ANI)

Screen Actors Guild bosses ban members from being part of MJ’s docu

London, Aug 30 (ANI): The feature length documentary on Michael Jackson being made by Sony has been hit with controversy, as union bosses at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) have warned members not to be part of the project.

They claim that film’s producers have not agreed to the minimum basic terms and conditions for performers and background actors employed on the project, the Daily Express reports.

A statement from the union reads: “Guild members are reminded of their obligation not to accept employment on any non-signatory project, as well as their obligation to confirm with the guild that a project is signatory. Employment on any non-signatory project within the guild’s jurisdiction may subject a member to a Rule One violation.”

The film is set to feature behind-the-scenes footage of the King of Pop during his rehearsals for his comeback This Is It concert, which Sony had purchased from concert promoters AEG Live.

However, the union did not have jurisdiction over the footage.

Sony has planned to release it on 28 October and run it in theatres for two weeks worldwide. (ANI)

Noel Gallagher quits Oasis

London, Aug 29 (ANI): Noel Gallagher has quit rock band Oasis following differences with frontman and brother Liam.

“It’s with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight,” the BBC News quoted him as stating on the band’s website.

He said: “People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer.”

The guitarist apologized to fans waiting for the band to perform in near future.

He added: “Apologies to all the people who bought tickets for the shows in Paris, Konstanz and Milan.”

Before the announcement came, the band had pulled out of second concert in the space of a week.

They were scheduled to play at the Rock en Seine festival in Paris, but to the shock of their fans, screens at either side of the stage showed the message “as a result of an altercation within the band, the Oasis gig has been cancelled”.

Hamish McBain, from music magazine New Musical Express, believes that it really must be the end of Oasis.

He said: “The relationship between Noel and Liam has been frosty over the last tour, to say the least, but it’s been frosty before.

“Noel has left tours before, Liam’s not showed up for gigs before, and they’ve carried on. But this, certainly the way Noel’s presented it on the Oasis website, it does feel like it has a degree of finality to it.”

Meanwhile, Oasis diehards are finding it difficult to come to terms with it.

A band follower named Wolvolass said: “I feel sick, sooo many good memories and gigs seeing Oasis over the years.”

Another fan MattGriffin added: “This is the worst day ever.”

Oasis was formed in Manchester in 1991and were originally known as The Rain.

They have a great track record with eight UK number-one singles, 15 NME Awards, five BRIT Awards, nine Q Awards and four MTV Europe Music Awards. (ANI)

Britney’s ‘too provocative’ fans kicked out of concert venue

New York, Aug 28 (ANI): It has been revealed that fans at pop princess Britney Spears’ concert at Madison Square Garden had to be evicted from the show for dancing “too provocatively” at their seats.

Of those, who had been yanked out by security guards on August 25, was Sandra Ion, a Dramatics hair salon manager.

“I guess there had been a complaint from someone in our section that our dancing was too risqui,” the New York Post quoted her as saying.

“Meanwhile, Britney is onstage gyrating half-naked and singing ‘Get Naked’. It was totally ridiculous. They should have just moved whoever complained instead of all of us,” she added.

Ion said that guards forced her and her pals, including Amanda Lapore’s stylist Harliquin, to miss three songs, and Garden management refused to reimburse them.

A representative for the Garden did not return a call for comment. (ANI)

Ted Kennedy played a role in creating Bangladesh

Washington, Aug.28 (ANI): Former US Senator Ted Kennedy had many foreign-policy achievements to his credit, and one of them was his role in helping to create the new state of Bangladesh in 1971.

In 1971, the Pakistan Government, with the support of the Nixon administration, sent troops into what was then called East Pakistan, in order to contain a secessionist movement. This created a massive refugee crisis as millions streamed across the border to India.

Although the situation got little coverage in the United States, Kennedy, who had a lifelong interest in refugee issues and was eyeing a run against Nixon, traveled to inspect the situation:

On his return, he issued a scathing report to the Senate Judiciary Committee on Refugees. The report, “Crisis in South Asia,” spoke of “one of the most appalling tides of human misery in modern times.”

“Nothing is more clear, or more easily documented, than the systematic campaign of terror-and its genocidal consequences-launched by the Pakistani army on the night of March 25th,” he wrote.

“All of this has been officially sanctioned, ordered and implemented under martial law from Islamabad. America’s heavy support of Islamabad is nothing short of complicity in the human and political tragedy of East Bengal.”

The Nixon administration maintained its stance. But Kennedy’s focus on the mass killings came as everyday Americans began to share in the outrage.

For instance, Beatle George Harrison’s Concert for Bangladesh, the first benefit event of its kind, was staged to further highlight the plight of Bangladeshi refugees.

Besieged, the U.S. Congress pushed through a bill to ban arms sales to Pakistan.

Kennedy received a hero’s welcome in Dhaka in 1972, just after Bangladesh gained independence.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina recalled Kennedy’s role, saying, “The people of Bangladesh will remember his contribution forever.” (ANI)

Lady Gaga says sorry to fans for not completing V Fest performance

Washington, Aug 24 (ANI): Lady Gaga recently apologised to her fans during a concert at the V Festival for not completing her performance, as she arrived late.

The pop sensation was apparently 15 minutes late in starting the show in Stafford, England.

As she arrived she announced: “My name is Lady GaGa, I’ve been so excited to play V,” reports Contactmusic.

Later, she screamed to her fans: “I live for nothing more than my fans, you guys are the f**king coolest fans on the planet.”

As time passed by such a huge crowd gathered that one girl fainted, while six others received treatment for minor injuries.

Eventually, the singer couldn’t finish her song ‘Poker face’ as the stage manger allegedly pulled off the plugs.

She said: “I’m so sorry, but I have to go. I’m so sorry, but I love you so much.”

Later she posted on Twitter: “Stage manager pulled the plug because I was 5 minutes over my time at V fest. Show was incredible. A shame people have no respect for music.

“My fans were lovely and really deserved to hear pokerface (sic). I love you and I’m sorry.” (ANI)

MJ’s ‘This Is It’ comeback concert contract leaked online

London, Aug 21 (ANI): The contract for late King of Pop Michael Jackson’s ‘This Is It’ comeback concert has been leaked online, with documents confirming the tragic star had no “known medical problems” which would have jeopardised the London shows.

The contract with tour promoters AEG, obtained by RadarOnline, stated the star had no “known health conditions, injuries or ailments that would reasonably be expected to interfere with Artist’s first class performance at each of the shows during the term,” reports the Daily Express.

The documents also reveal that singer did in fact agree to play more than the original 10 concerts, but stipulated that he would perform no more than “3.5 times” during a seven-day period.

The papers also dismiss rumours that Jackson was too frail to perform his full set.

Many internet gossips speculated he was only contracted to appear on stage for a small portion of each gig, but the contract states he was obliged to perform for at least 80 minutes at each show.

Jackson signed the documents on behalf of his company, The Michael Jackson Company LLC, and as the artist, Michael Jackson, while AEG Live CEO Brandon Phillips also signed the contract. (ANI)

Pink concert alerts Oz woman to her ballooning breast implant

Cairns, Aug 20 (ANI): An Aussie woman, who woke up with one breast double the size of the other, said that had she not attended American singer Pink’s concert, she would not have known there was a problem with her breast implant.

Cattle station worker Kimberley Koy’s breast had ballooned out overnight after a plane trip to Sydney to see Pink perform, and fearing that it might be breast cancer, she immediately visited her doctor.

But at the clinic, Koy came to know that the breast problem had started a week earlier, when she was stabbed in the chest by a runaway cow’s horn while working on a Cape York property.

Koy, who has C-cup silicone gel breast implants, had brushed the incident off as the horn did not break her skin or leave a bruise, and was oblivious to the damage it had done to her implant until it popped up after the plane flight.

“When I told the doctor I’d flown she said, ‘That makes perfect sense because air pressure forced out the silicone’,” Cairns.com.au quoted her as saying.

“I could have gone years without knowing.

“When I woke up the day after the plane trip it was double the size of my right one … I thought I had breast cancer.

“If I hadn’t have gone to the Pink concert I wouldn’t have known my breast was leaking,” she said.

Koy said that her breast had since shrunk, but still edged out further than the right one.

“It was like a coconut to an orange; it was bloody weird and incredibly noticeable,” she said.

“I just wanted everyone to hear my story because I think it is very funny.

“It felt like one breast had filled up with milk and the other hadn’t,” she added. (ANI)
