Syfy letting viewers create new movie

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – Syfy is giving online fans a chance to write and design every aspect of an upcoming Saturday-night creature feature.

Television

The cable network is launching a production site, B Movie Mogul, where fans can vote and pitch ideas for the film, from title, creatures, wardrobe, dialogue and character deaths to promotional taglines. The resulting “script” will be shot as a two-hour Syfy original movie to be released next year.

“We constantly have fans e-mailing with compliments, complaints and questions about our movies, and this is a way of involving the fans in a new way,” said Thomas Vitale, executive vp programing and original movies. “This is where entertainment is going and just the start of many more things of this nature for Syfy.”

Syfy is teaming with entertainment site IGN on the site; the partnership will last 15 months and launch Friday. The first stage will have fans voting on one of three overall concepts for the movie: a 2010 apocalypse story, a Bermuda Triangle-set creature feature or a Roswell, N.M.-set alien movie.

But the venture raises the question: What if fans create a lousy movie? “When you have a lot of people working on something, good ideas will come out of it,” Vitale said. “We will have something that will be entertaining.”

Madonna, Cameron and Demi Moore offer dating advice for book

London, May 15 (ANI): Stars including Madonna, Demi Moore and Cameron Diaz have offered up their best dating advice for a new book designed to help men find girlfriends and keep them happy.

The book – ‘That”s what she said: Women Reveal What Men Really Need to Know’ – has been compiled by Punk”d producer T.J. Jefferson and features a foreword from the prank TV show”s star Ashton Kutcher.

The three beauties have doled out their own tips for people looking to date – especially men who want to woo women.

“If you want to get our clothes off focus on what you”re giving, not on what you can get! You may be able to score once – but we can smell the stink of selfish desires a mile away and are not interested. Women are caretakers by nature, don”t take it for granted. The romance we are looking for comes from being appreciated,” The Daily Star quoted Moore as writing.

While Madonna advises men to let their women take charge and pay them a lot of compliments, Diaz admits she enjoys “losing herself in wonder of love, beauty and sexiness”.

Lake Bell urges men not to be too “pushy” and Soleil Moon Frye claims “We like it dirty just like you…”

“It”s a fun read, but you can find something in there that can really help your relationship and stop you from sleeping on the couch that night. You”ve got people like Madonna giving advice in the book, but then you”ve got housewives in the Midwest and teachers and nurses. It might be hard for someone to relate to what Madonna is saying, but most of us can relate to everyday people, people that aren”t famous and aren”t in the spotlight – they need to be heard as well,” says Jefferson, the book”s author.

Els anoints Schwartzel as next star

Charl Schwartzel is set to become South Africa’s next golfing “superstar”, triple major winner Ernie Els said.

Schwartzel carded a second-round 70 to finish three strokes behind leader Els at the WGC-CA Championship on Saturday morning (AEDT).

The 25-year-old Schwartzel has been in outstanding form this year and won back-to-back European Tour events in January at the Africa and Joburg opens.

“He’s just got so much talent,” compatriot Els said.

“When he gets a break out here … you’re going to see the next superstar out of South Africa.

“I’ve known Charl a very long time. I’ve played golf with his dad (George), that’s how far back we go.

“We won together in 1987. It was a better-ball tournament in South Africa.”

Els compared Schwartzel to another South African, 2008 US Masters champion Trevor Immelman.

“I played amateur golf tournaments and professional golf tournaments at the club where he (Charl) grew up,” he said.

“He won everything as a junior, very similar to Trevor Immelman, but he’s even more impressive because … he hits the ball a really long way.”

Schwartzel said he was flattered to receive praise from world number 20 Els, the most successful South African since Gary Player who won nine majors.

“It’s great,” he said. “It’s always nice when you get compliments but especially nice when they come from guys like Ernie who’s won so much in the game.

“Hopefully I can live up to it.”

Atheists ‘more successful at online dating’

London, Sept 16 (ANI): People who don’t believe in god are more likely to achieve success at online dating, according to a new study of opening messages.

Self-effacing men are also more likely to get a reply to their approaches, while nothing turns off potential dates more than textspeak like “ur” and “luv”.

The researchers analysed 500,000 “first contacts” sent by users of OkCupid, the leading US dating website, and found that nearly 42 per cent of messages, which included the word “atheist”, received replies, significantly higher than the average response rate of 32 per cent.

The study also showed that references to “Christian”, “Jewish” and “Muslim” only had a marginal success rate, reports the Telegraph.

Moreover, mentioning “god” in a first approach actually discouraged people from replying.

The research also suggests online daters to avoid making personal compliments too early like “sexy” and “beautiful”, which reduced response rate.

It showed that people who used the words “good taste” or “you mention” in their messages pushed their response rates close to 50 per cent.

In addition, dreary greetings such as “hi”, “hey” and “hello” are far less successful than sparkier openings like “how’s it going” and “what’s up”.

The results of the analysis were published on OkTrends, the dating website’s official blog. (ANI)

Wolf-whistles are the way to woo a woman!

London, Sept 1 (ANI): Planning to woo a girl? Well, then here’s a pointer for you: eight out of 10 women love men paying them compliments – even if they are strangers.

That’s the conclusion of a new UK study, which found that up to half women are secretly pleased if they get wolf-whistles from builders or if a man in a car toots his horn at them.

However, three out of four men would not dream of complimenting a stranger or colleague for fear of being thought a pervert, creepy or that they are “coming on to” the woman, the survey has found.

Market researchers www.OnePoll.com said: “It is a sign of the times that men can’t do or say anything without feeling it will be taken the wrong way.”

The study found that 80percent women like it when male colleagues appreciate their appearance, especially if he is single, good-looking or the boss, reports The Daily Express.

Ninety-six per cent of girls love compliments from their partner, though nearly half respond with a wisecrack like “love is blind”. (ANI)

Shia LaBeouf doesn’t understand his job

Washington, June 22 (ANI): Shia LaBeouf says that he does not “really know” what his job as an actor means and is unaware how to respond to compliments for his performance.

“I don’t even really know what it is I do for a living – the level of insecurity is very, very high. You’re making a lot of money, getting a lot of accolades and positive criticism for something where you don’t even know what you’re doing,” Contactmusic quoted him as saying.

“There’s no business-model for this. You can’t go home and say, ‘You did your job today,’ because I don’t know what my job is! That gets crazy, trying to figure that s**t out,” he added.he ‘Transformers’ star rose to fame early in his life, starring in several Disney Channel TV shows.

However, he is skeptical about his job as an actor.

“Actors are dependent on being validated by other people’s opinions. I don’t understand what it is I do that people want. I don’t know what an actor does. I have no credentials. I don’t know what I’m doing,” he said.

“To my mind, talent doesn’t really exist. Talent is like a card player’s luck. It is motivation, ambition, and luck. I think acting is a con game,” he added. (ANI)

Gemma Atkinson once ‘turned down tiny Maradona’

London, Apr 30 (ANI): Busty-babe Gemma Atkinson has said that she once turned down advances of Argentinian footie legend Diego Maradona.

The ex-Hollyoaks beauty revealed that she bumped into the World Cup winner at a charity football match and was showered with compliments.

But, the Gemma remained inert to Diego’s chat-up lines as because she found his height, or the lack of it, to be a put-off.

“He said I had beautiful eyes and I was like, ‘Wow thanks,’ but he’s so short, he’s tiny,” The Sun quoted Gemma as saying.

She added: “I saw him at this charity match so I went up to him and asked for a picture and an autograph. He was really nice guy but he was very short.”

The 34E stunner, spilled the beans when an American interviewer asked her who was the most famous person she had ever turned down. (ANI)

‘IPL in South Africa will mainly be a television product’

Durban, Apr 1 (ANI): The Indian Premier League going to be held in South Africa will mainly be a television product for the Indian market and the crowd attendances will be no more than a bonus, according to a former cricket administrator.

Arthur Turner says that hosting of IPL in South Africa is not a coup for the country as the tournament was shifted out of India due to security reasons.

“It is hard to see how eight foreign teams playing 59 matches in a foreign country will capture the imagination of the South African public. Sure there will be a curiosity factor but nothing more. Durban will probably be the exception given the huge Indian community,” Sports24.com quoted Arthur, as saying.

He says the IPL will be mainly a television product for the Indian market and the crowd attendances will be no more than a bonus, and adds that the main aim of the organisers is to ensure that the tournament takes place.

Arthur compliments Cricket South Africa on assisting the IPL by hosting the tournament in the country as an emergency measure, which is good in the spirit of cricket.

The South African economy will also benefit from the move with the hospitality, hotel and transport industries being the main beneficiaries. Also, the local cricket provinces and their venues will benefit financially from a staging fee for matches, he says. (ANI)
