“Futurama” bounces back (a little)

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – “Futurama” halted its ratings slide and rebounded a bit Thursday night. The Comedy Central show bounced 10% from last week to 2.2 million viewers for its 10 p.m. airing. That’s a good sign for the show, whose audience shrank for the first few weeks of its basic cable revival.

Thursday cable was led by USA’s “Burn Notice” (5.6 million) climbing back up to a number it hasn’t seen since its second episode this summer, followed by a strong showing by USA’s “Royal Pains” (5.2 million).

“Good Luck Charlie” gets renewed

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – Disney Channel freshman sitcom “Good Luck Charlie” is getting a second season — and an original movie.

The second season will likely debut next year, and in the meantime the network is developing an original movie that will feature the show’s cast.

Dempsey most recently starred in “Enchanted,” “Made of Honor” and “Valentine’s Day.”

‘Tamara Drewe’ director didn’t know Gemma Arterton

London, May 19 (ANI): English film director Stephen Frears has admitted that he had no idea who actress Gemma Arterton was and had asked her to audition for the starring role in ‘Tamara Drewe’ like everybody else.

Arterton, 24, who plays the lead role in Frears’ comedy about a former ugly duckling turned sex kitten who moves into a sleepy Dorset village, had critics raving about her “smouldering” performance.

But Frears, 68, whose credits include ‘The Queen’, ‘High Fidelity’ and ‘My Beautiful Launderette’, was clueless about the former Bond girl’s credentials.

“I hadn’t heard of Gemma Arterton, who’ll be upset to read that,” the Telegraph quoted him as saying.

“But she came to see me and she sat down beside me and I said to my casting director, ‘Is she any good? Because if she is – book her’.

“It was there to see. She was clearly gorgeous, warm and witty and likeable,” he added. (ANI)

Lenny Henry, Dawn French split

British comedians Lenny Henry and Dawn French have separated after 25 years of marriage.

The couple made their decision to split in October.

They have since been “living together in constant, open and honest discussion”, spokesman Neil Reading said in a statement.

“The separation is entirely amicable and they fully intend to maintain their close friendship.

“Their priority is to commit to the future joint parenting of their daughter.”

The comics married in London in 1984 and adopted their daughter Billie in 1991.

French, 52, wrote in her bestselling autobiography that their marriage was “buffeted by a tornado” when tabloid newspapers published details of their relationship in 1999.

In media interviews since, both refused to comment in detail on the accounts given in the newspapers.

French said only her 51-year-old husband made “grave errors of judgment” which led to a decision to “pull tighter, hold each other, unite, hold hands and walk through the storm together”.

Comedy promoter not laughing on way to bank

Police are investigating allegations of theft from the recent the Big Joke Comedy Festival in Bangalow.

Festival Director Jay Allison says ticket sales and takings don’t match the number of people at each night, with more than $15,000 missing.

He estimates about a thousand people attended the four-day event.

Mr Allison says the discovery has shocked and saddened him.

“I did the reconcillation on Monday night, obviously exhausted after a busy weekend, and just went through everything again and again and again and started to realise there was at least six thousand dollars missing and that figure just grew over the last two days, probably up to about 15 and a half thousand,” Mr Allison said.

Zach Braff declares Scrubs dead

Is Scrubs finally a goner? According to star Zach Braff, the long-running comedy is finished.

After nine seasons and two networks, Braff says the series will not return next year.

Posting on Facebook, Braff wrote: “Many of you have asked, so here it is: It appears that ‘New Scrubs’, ‘Scrubs 2.0′, ‘Scrubs With New Kids’, ‘Scrubbier’, ‘Scrubs Without JD’ is no more. It was worth a try, but alas … it didn’t work. zb”

Braff, who played Dr John “JD” Dorian on the medical series, starred in only a handful of episodes this season, which attempted to reboot the show by adding younger cast members.

An ABC America representative said the network has not made an official decision. But given the program’s weak ratings this year, a return does seem unlikely.

Tina Fey, Steve Carell’s ‘world”s longest closed-mouth kiss’

New York, March 20 (ANI): Tina Fey and Steve Carell have shared the world”s longest closed-mouth kiss in their new film ‘Date Night’.

However, Fey clarified that it was supposed to be funny and not erotic.

“I want to state for my husband”s sake that it was a comedy idea, not an erotic idea. I did pitch: Wouldn”t it be funny if the kiss was as long as the credit sequence?” the New York Daily News quoted her as saying.

She added: “It was fun because we”re both so polite and not only are we both married, we know each other”s spouses.

“It was the world”s longest closed-mouth kiss. It was like a tongue-less turtle mouth.” (ANI)

David Beckham, actor James Corden get ‘naked’ for a bubble bath!

London, Mar 17 (ANI): English footballer David Beckham was pictured sharing a bubble bath with actor James Corden.

Beckham, 34, stripped off in a hilarious sketch for the BBC’s Sport Relief, which was filmed in Milan several weeks ago before he tore his left Achilles.

“It is undoubtedly the single funniest scene ever filmed for Sport Relief or Comic Relief,” the Mirror quoted a source as saying.

“David and James, who was playing his alter-ego Smithy, got on famously and really sparked off one another. In the three-minute scene, the pair share a romantic candle-lit bath for no other reason than they want to.

“David even gives James’s body an appreciative nod at one point. Forget comedy gold – this is comedy platinum,” the source added. (ANI)

Book store defends ‘control a woman’ toy

A Melbourne woman is outraged after discovering a Borders book store was selling a ‘control a woman’ remote.

The toy product, similar to a TV remote control, is being sold as a novelty gift for $14.99.

Katie Robertson saw the remote in a Borders book store last week, after attending a lunch celebrating International Women’s Day.

“There are certain buttons on there. For example, the male may decide that he wants beer, sex or food. He may press a button in which he requires the woman to remove her clothes, cook, clean, leave, [or] say yes,” she told ABC Radio’s Jon Faine.

“There’s also a button in which you can increase her breast size.”

Ms Robertson says she has no doubt it was intended to be a joke, but that argument does not wash with her.

“I think it’s actually about respect and what’s appropriate to sell,” she said.

“I’m troubled by this item, mainly because it encourages a stereotype of women as submissive, who are to be controlled.”

Lauren Thompson of Borders says the product is intended as a joke and says they are also selling a ‘control a man’ remote, which has sold out.

“All I can say in its defence is that it is base level humour,” she said.

“But it’s meant to be a bit funny, a bit of a gimmick, something you might buy for your best mate before a stag night or a hens night.”

Ms Robertson has complained in writing to the store, but Ms Thompson says they will not take it off the shelves on the basis of one complaint.

“We’ve probably got a number of products, books and literature which could fall into that category… so we need to be quite careful,” Ms Thompson said.

Elton John tells Whoopi Goldberg ‘Next Fall’ reflects his coming out struggle

London, Mar 13 (ANI): Sir Elton John has revealed on Whoopi Goldberg’s chat show The View that his new play, ‘Next Fall’, reflects some of the struggles he had coming out as gay.

John, 62, produced the play, which is a bittersweet comedy that opened on Broadway on March 12, with his partner David Furnish.

It was written by Geoffrey Nauffts, and tells the story of a gay couple, one of whom hasn’t come out as gay to his parents and struggles with the conflict with his religion.

John told Goldberg, 54, that he could totally identify with the troubled protagonist.

“I came out…at the height of my career and, yeah, it maybe hurt me a little bit but not that much and it gave me the freedom to be who I was for the rest of my life and I didn’t have to live my life in secret,” the Mirror quoted him as saying.

“I’m proud of who I am. The worst thing is to just hide and be afraid of who you are.

“I didn’t really want people to know. I didn’t have the courage in my convictions and I think as soon as I did that – when I was asked a simple question in a magazine and I said ‘yes’ – my life transformed itself.

“I don’t have any secrets now. I know it is very difficult for lots of people in different jobs but the best thing I ever did was be true to myself,” he added. (ANI)

Charlie Sheen set for TV return

Charlie Sheen is expected to return to work on Two And A Half Men next week, his publicist says.

The actor is in the process of exiting the rehabilitation facility he checked into on February 23.

On Monday, Sheen is scheduled to appear in an Aspen, Colorado court over domestic abuse charges stemming from his Christmas Day arrest.

If Sheen returns to work Tuesday, that would mean a three-week shutdown for CBS’ hit comedy – not bad, given the fact that the show had a week-long built-in hiatus in March.

Cameron Diaz ‘excited’ to work with ex-beau Justin Timberlake

London, Mar 10 (ANI): Cameron Diaz is “thrilled” to be starring alongside ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake in new movie, because she enjoys the singer’s on-set antics.

In ‘Bad Teacher’, the ‘Charlie”s Angels’ actress stars as a junior high school teacher who sets out to steal a colleague”s boyfriend, played by Timberlake, in the comedy.

Diaz and Timberlake dated for almost four years, before splitting in 2007, and since then the singer has found love with actress Jessica Biel.

But ‘The Holiday’ star is excited to have Justin play her love interest in the film, which also stars Molly Shannon and Jason Segel.

“We”re thrilled to have him. He”s the best person for the job. He”s going to be hilarious. He”s clearly a very talented comedian, look at his Saturday Night Live (skits). He”s fantastic, he”s going to be so great,” the Daily Star quoted her as telling Access Hollywood”s Billy Bush.

“We just had our first day of shooting yesterday with Jason. And we just laughed all day. It”s so wonderful, I”m so excited,” she added. (ANI)

Body double does most of Alec Baldwin’s role in 30 Rock

Washington, September 12 (ANI): Actor Alec Baldwin has a body double for his role in hit TV Show 30 Rock, as he can’t spare enough time to film it himself, it has emerged.

The star apparently works just three days a week, as he needs to travel back to Los Angeles to spend time with his daughter Ireland.

According to sources it has led to the comedy show creator and star, Tina Fey, organizing rehearsals and scenes around Baldwin’s absence, by using a stand-in.

“Tina saves Alec’s speaking lines for his arrival on set, but everything else is shot with a stand-in,” Fox News quoted an on-set source as saying.

Most shots featuring Baldwin’s character are shot from behind or sideways.

The insider said: “Those [body double takes] make it into the final cut of the show. There are many back shots and side shots that don’t show Alec’s face, because it is his stand-in on Alec’s days off.

“The goal is to have everything ready to shoot Alec when he’s there, with as little stress as possible.

“He does not have the desire to be tied to a set six or seven days a week, and Tina was willing to work it so that he could get everything he wanted. Alec can pretty much do anything he wants at ’30 Rock’.”

Baldwin was spotted at the U.S. Open this week watching tennis. (ANI)

Peter Andre laughs off Jordan’s ‘Mysterious Girl’ claims

London, Sept 7 (ANI): Aussie singer Peter Andre has laughed off reports that he has a new girl in his life, insisting that he feels like a virgin.

The 36-year-old singer’s statement came after his estranged wife Kate Price, a.k.a. Jordan, went on TV to suggest that he had a new Mysterious Girl.

He even compared himself to the hero of the hit comedy ‘The 40-Year-Old Virgin’.

“OK 36 and not a V but feel like one at mo. Lol,” the Daily Star quoted him as having written on his Twitter page.

Meanwhile, Jordan has reportedly told son Harvey to call her boyfriend Alex Reid ‘Daddy’, a news which has upset Andre.

He is disheartened that his disabled stepson is being used as a pawn in the divorce battle. (ANI)
