How to hide an office romance

Washington, May 20 (ANI): Having an affair with a co-worker, but fearing that it might land your job in trouble? Well, now you can hide that office romance by following only a few tips.

Here is a set of guidelines on how to conceal your passionate office romp:

Don’t change your routine

The best way to conceal an office romance and cast a protective shell around your new relationship is to maintain your schedule throughout the work day. Nothing should change. People always notice significant changes in routine, especially if they’re the gossipy office types, so avoid doing anything out of the ordinary. This means no lunches with your new partner — especially if you’ve never been known to socialize with this person on a friendly basis before.

Keep it to yourself

You may have a few close friends at work with whom you really want to share the events of your recent hookup, but you can’t give in to this urge. This is a very crucial rule to follow when you want to conceal an office romance. Don’t brag to them in your office and send them away with a vow never to tell anyone. It’s acceptable to tell friends or family who don’t work in the office, but you better make damn sure they have no possible connection to your workplace.

Don’t document it

There are a number of ways to conceal an office romance while communicating with your love during the workday. You might think you can get away with sending 100 e-mails back and forth every day, but do not use your business address. Most companies have internal servers that can track any and all e-mails sent between employees, and if anybody over in IT happened to look, they would find more than enough evidence to convict.

Restrict yourself to cell phone texts and voice mail—anything that has a chance of being seen by a co-worker isn’t worth the risk, reports Askmen.com.

Avoid attending office social gatherings together

The biggest problem with the office Christmas party and happy hour at the local bar is that two factors that could out you are involved: alcohol and gossip. Even if the two of you are never within 10 feet of each other at one of these get-togethers, you’re still taking a relatively big risk. You always have to be careful in the office to conceal an office romance, but you can’t imagine how precarious an employee social gathering can be. All it takes to set off a rumour wildfire is one slightly tipsy secretary who asks a particular question, and your answer can be interpreted in a variety of ways. So, the best thing to do is maintain the “Don’t change your routine” philosophy because purposeful avoidance is just as big a tip-off as always going to social functions together would be.

Don’t let it affect your work

You can send a few lovey-dovey messages via your cell phone, or exchange a brief kiss in the stairway, but you can’t let this relationship affect your work. First of all, you didn’t get to where you are by shirking your daily duties, and second, you’re already risking your future at the company simply by being with this person. If anything, work harder to compensate for your transgression, which may give you a slight edge if anybody ever finds out.

Loving 9 to 5

While an office romance is a very common occurrence and not quite as taboo as it once was, many hurdles remain. The workplace still presents a lot of grey area when it comes to romantic excursions between employees, so in order to play it safe, it’s often best to keep your little fling under wraps. Pay close attention to the little giveaways that leave you open to suspicion. (ANI)

Mums-to-be trust their moms more than medics

London, May 15 (ANI): Expectant mothers pay more heed to their mothers’ advice during pregnancy, as compared to medical advice from doctors, say researchers.

A survey by a team from University of London that spoke to women who gave birth in the 1970s, 1980s and the 2000s revealed that although modern women were more likely to take a mixture of advice, they still prefer family wisdom, especially if they had some worries.

Women who had babies between 2000 and 2010 had a wide range of information and advice to choose from – doctors, midwives, books, magazines and, latterly, the Internet – as well as that from their families, but family advice won out in the end.

“When it comes to the crunch – if women feel sick for example – they will take their mother””s or their grandmother””s advice.

“They wouldn””t necessarily recognise how important it was to them, but it would override the science.

“Taking all the guidelines too seriously leads to anxieties. Lack of self-confidence also can lead to worry about ””doing the wrong thing”” which is potentially more harmful than taking the odd glass of wine or eating soft cheese,” BBC News quoted Professor Paula Nicolson from Royal Holloway, University of London, as saying.

Jane Brewin, chief executive of baby charity Tommy””s, said women had to “strike a balance” about what advice they took.

“It””s only natural to want to talk about the significant changes that happen to a woman””s body and how she feels; mums and close friends often have first-hand experience and tips that are helpful.

“However we always stress that if any mum-to-be is worried about anything during their pregnancy they should seek medical advice without delay.” (ANI)

Islamabad, Apr.28 (ANI): A report prepared by the Pakistan Foreign Affairs Ministry has charged former President General Pervez Musharraf and his cronies of selling government owned non-movable properties in Jakarta at the rate of peanuts.

The report said the government-owned Chancery building and the ambassador’s residence in Jakarta, which were gifted to Musharraf by former Indonesian President Soeakarno, were sold in 2002 by passing all rules and regulations.

The foreign ministry had even told Hussain that he cannot proceed with the deal without the approval of the inter-ministerial committee, and asked him to refrain from finalising the agreement.

However, he went ahead with the sale, claiming he had acted in line with “a directive by the chief executive on the sale of both properties,” The Daily Times reports.

Quoting the then defence attaché Colonel. Khalid Mehmood, the report says that Hussain and one of his close friends had extracted massive kickbacks in the sale of the properties in Jakarta. (ANI)

Ex-Yugoslav leader Tito’s elephant dies

An elephant given as a present to former Yugoslav leader Josip Broz Tito 40 years ago has died suddenly, a Croatian newspaper reported on Wednesday.

Late Indian prime minister Indira Gandhi gave Sony to the communist leader in 1970 when the bull elephant was a two-year-old calf, the Jutarnji List daily reported.

Sony, who lived at Croatia’s northern national Brijuni islands park where Mr Tito had a private zoo, died on Friday.

An autopsy is to determine the cause of his death. In the wild, elephants can live up to 70 years.

The islands were once reserved for Mr Tito and his close friends but are now frequented by officials and tourists.

Sony lived there among other exotic animals including Lanka, a cow elephant.

“We were all shocked by his death. We simply cannot believe that he is not here any more,” Vesna Klunic of the national park told the media.

“Now we will take special care of Lanka since it’s not easy for her.”

Mr Tito ruled the former Yugoslav federation, of which Croatia was a part, for 35 years until his death in 1980.

A decade after his death, Yugoslavia broke up in a series of internecine wars.

Lockyer showing no signs of slowing down

He is about to become a first-time father and is only weeks away from making one of the biggest decisions of his career but, at 33, Darren Lockyer is displaying no signs of slowing down.

Now into his 16th straight NRL season with Brisbane, the champion five-eighth embraced his 33rd birthday on Wednesday, declaring “I’m 30 and some months” and deflecting any talk about his advancing years.

His coach Ivan Henjak, who has been at the Broncos in some form of coaching capacity for well over a decade, could not recall his veteran skipper ever being so fresh starting a year – a sign he may be about to announce he is taking his representative career into another season.

Lockyer is less than two weeks away from an Australian Rugby League deadline to decide whether he continues playing for Queensland (30 games) and Australia (50 games).

But according to Henjak and the Broncos, Queensland and Australian team-mate Sam Thaiday, Lockyer has not given anything away about which way he is leaning.

He has sought advice from close friends, including long-time coach Wayne Bennett, and been given advice by others such as Queensland immortal Arthur Beetson not to go on one season too long.

Another immortal, Queensland legend Wally Lewis, said the decision was ultimately Lockyer’s to make and it really did not matter what anybody else thought.

Henjak agreed.

“Darren has kept it close to his chest and it’s his decision to make. I haven’t pressured him at all,” the coach said after watching Lockyer train at Red Hill before staying back for some goal-kicking practice.

“I’ve said it many times, he’s earned the right to make that decision without pressure from me or the club.

“I don’t know if he has any external pressures and I certainly don’t want to add to it if he has.

“He hasn’t shown me any indication he’s got the weight of the world on his shoulders or that he’s slowing down.”

Henjak said after a month of footy, Lockyer would know how his body was holding up.

“For his 16th year, it’s the freshest I’ve seen him for a long, long time and he’s been our best trainer,” he said.

Henjak said Lockyer looked so comfortable it was possible he had already made up his mind.

“He might already know and that’s why he is looking so relaxed,” he said.

“I’ve got no doubts he’ll handle it if he decides to go that way and we’ll be fine with it and we’ll move on.”

Queensland coach Mal Meninga said he had no idea what Lockyer would do.

“At the moment he’s fresh and I’ve got my fingers crossed he will be available for [State of] Origin,” Meninga told Network Ten.

Meninga said Gold Coast half-back Scott Prince would make sure Queensland’s halves remained strong in their bid for a fifth straight Origin series.

“Every time he’s played for Queensland, Scotty’s done the job,” he said.

“If Darren makes the decision not to play for Queensland, we’ve got a ready-made fix with Scott.”

Nagpur man celebrates birthday in crematorium

Nagpur, Sep. 16 (ANI): In a bizarre incident, a Nagpur-based man celebrated his 40th birthday in a crematorium.

Surrounded with close friends and relatives, Pramod Vanker cut his birthday cake at Gangabai Ghat on Wednesday.

“Everyone gave me strength and told me it is a good thing and you are setting a good example for the society. People celebrate birthday in hotels, homes and at religious places like temple. I thought why shouldn’t I celebrate my birthday at a place where one is to face sorrow in future,” said Vanker.

Initially, Vanker’s wife was averse to his wacky idea, but his philosophical reasoning cleared her doubts.

“I was surprised when he told me that he wants to celebrate his birthday in a crematorium. Till now we have celebrated birthdays at hotels. But then I felt that one day everyone has to depart from this world then why not see that heavenly abode where everyone has to come and celebrate the birthday too,” said Usha, wife of Pramod Vanker.

Perhaps, it is for the first time that someone in Nagpur has celebrated his birthday at a crematorium. (ANI)

Musharraf denies misuse of US aid, says Indian media highlighting ‘non-issue’

Lahore, Sep.16 (ANI): Days after former Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf’s statement that Islamabad had diverted US aid to strengthen its defence against India was splashed in the media all over, the former general has denied allegations of misuse of army equipment, saying the media has highlighted a ‘non-issue’.

Dr Nasim Ashraf, one of Musharraf’s close friends, told a private television channel that the former President has categorically denied misuse of any US military aid during his regime.

Ashraf said it was wrong to say that the Pakistan Army had violated the agreement regarding the equipments supplied by the US.

“If a unit stationed in Waziristan moved to Kashmir, the equipment would move with it, which was not a violation of the agreement,” The Daily Times quoted Ashraf, as saying.

Responding to a question he said Musharraf would return to Pakistan as soon as his lecture tour is finished.

It is worth mentioning here that in an interview to a Pakistani news channel earlier this week, Musharraf had admitted that he had violated the rules governing the use of the military aid, but justified his action, saying he had “acted in the best interest of Pakistan.” (ANI)

Mariah Carey regrets apologising for shaky performance at MJ’s memorial

London, Sep 2 (ANI): Mariah Carey has said that she regrets apologising for her shaky performance at Michael Jackson’s memorial service by writing on her Twitter blog.

The ‘Hero’ hit-maker was the first singer who went on stage at the ‘Thriller’ star’s memorial service at the Staples Center in Los Angeles in July.

Carey, who was close friends with the ‘Thriller’ star, sang classic Jackson 5 hit ‘I’ll Be There’ at the service, while struggling to hit the notes as she fought back tears during her performance.

After the show, she explained on her Twitter.com blog how she became overemotional when she saw Jackson’s gold coffin below the stage.

“Trying to sing today was basically impossible for me. I could barely keep myself from crying. I’m sorry that I wasn’t able to pull it together and really do it right, but I was literally choked up when I saw him (Michael) there in front of me,” the Daily Express quote Carey as having written at the time.

And now, the singer is saying that she should not have publicly spoken out about her performance.

She, however, feels blessed that she was given the chance to sing at Jackson’s send off.

“I regret sending that message but I was very emotional and I wasn’t happy with my performance. But we all did our best to give Michael the send off he deserves. I just forgot the world could read that. I thought I was just talking to my friends. I shouldn’t have done that because that was really only meant for Michael. That was about him,” said Carey.

She added: “It was difficult just to get through the song because I feel as if I have been listening to Michael Jackson’s music my whole life. When I was a little kid I used to sing all his songs.

The whole world suffered a huge loss. The whole world is going to feel this forever. I feel myself blessed to have known him, to have performed with him several times and to have sung at his memorial.” (ANI)
