MJ’s mother wins will ruling

London, September 19 (ANI): Michael Jackson’s mother Katherine can challenge the administrators of the singer’s estate without any threat to her 40 per cent stake, a judge has ruled.

The 79-year-old’s legal team said that she wants to have more say over the manner in which the 400 million dollar estate is handled.

According to the ruling, the King of Pop’s mum will not breach a ‘no contest’ clause in the family trust if she sets up a challenge before the executors over Jackson’s will, reports the Sun.

Katherine is the legal guardian of the star’s children, Prince Michael, 12, Paris, 11, and seven-year-old Prince Michael II, after his sudden death on June 25.

She will receive more than 1 million dollars a year from his estate including a sum of 26,804 dollars a month for herself apart from a monthly allowance of 60,000 dollars for the three kids, as per the court’s order. (ANI)

Jennifer Aniston not interested in other stars’ lives

London, Sep 19 (ANI): Jennifer Aniston is livid over the public interest in her private life, as she herself doesn’t care what other stars are doing.

The ‘Friends’ star has vowed not to discuss her personal life, and is unhappy with the idea of strangers reading about her personal matters.

“I don’t know about your life. I don’t want to, truthfully. It’s not my business,” the Daily Express quoted her as having told Parade magazine.

“It’s a very strange thing, but somehow it’s like there was some clause somewhere that said, ‘Well, you’re a public person, so we get to go into your house and search through your drawers.’

“I don’t know who came up with it because I wouldn’t have signed on. I don’t think anybody would have,” she added. (ANI)

Government approves amendments in ASA between India and Saudi Arabia

New Delhi, Sep 17(ANI): The Government on Thursday gave its approval to the amendments in the Air Services Agreement (ASA) between India and Saudi Arabia.

In the MoU signed, the provision of the incorporation of ‘multiple designation clause’ has been agreed and, therefore, each side can now designate any number of airlines as they wish.

The capacity entitlement for the designated airline of each side has also been enhanced from the existing 8,500 seats per week with frequencies not exceeding 31 services to 20,000 seats per week with frequencies not exceeding 75 services per week.

Bangalore, Calicut and Lucknow have also granted additional points of call for the Saudi designated carriers apart from the existing Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Cochin and Hyderabad.

While, Medinah has been granted as additional point of call for India designated carrier apart from the existing Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam.

The capacity to be operated by the Indian designated carriers to and from Dammam for which the Government of Saudi Arabia has declared an open sky policy, shall not be counted against the capacity entitlements available to the Indian carriers.

Both sides have also agreed for the open sky with regard to all cargo services with full third and fourth freedom traffic rights.

West Bengal Government scraps Rajarhat IT park project

Kolkata, Sep.7 (ANI): The West Bengal government on Monday scrapped plans for an IT-related township in the Rajarhat area near Salt Lake City in the wake of a land scam involving land sharks and government officials.

The State Government had revealed last month that it had acquired land for the Infosys and Wipro complexes.

The state Cabinet went far beyond the waiving aside of the urban land ceiling to enable promoters procure the rest of the land. The government also promised to facilitate the process of land conversion (from agricultural to non-agricultural). Clause 5.51 under Section D of the MoU clearly states that Webel shall enable the joint venture company to get all clearance and “applicable permits” under the law, including “conversion of land”.

The government stayed away from procuring land on its own. Instead, it gave the JVC a long rope and agreed on getting land from this company on lease, leaving 600 acres to the private partners for commercial use. Not only that, the private promoters set the terms for Webel’s activities on the leasehold land. Clause 4.6 of the MoU states: “With a view to meet the requirement of small IT companies for built-up space, if Webel intends to develop IT parks, the Joint Venture partner Vedic Diamond will be given the first right of refusal to develop such facilities.”

Murray frustrated by “in your face” drug-tests, whereabouts clause

New York, Aug 29(ANI): British tennis player Andy Murray has expressed frustration over the ‘intrusive’ drug-testing protocol and said that the “in your face” way that these tests are done is annoying.

Murray further said that it has become even more annoying to let the World Anti-Doping Agency know where he will be for an hour of every day of the year.

“It was such a hassle. I don’t know what it’s like in other sports. I’m sure it’s tough for the athletics guys as well. I’d just like it to be a little bit more relaxed,” The Telegraph quoted Murray, as saying.

“I just think it’s a little bit in your face the whole thing. When you’ve finished your matches, a little bit more space would be nice,” he added.

The 22-year-old also said that the players are not provided space and their privacy is repeatedly invaded by the agency.

“After I lost at Wimbledon, I was obviously disappointed because it’s a grand slam, and within two minutes of getting off the court the guy was right there, standing next to me. And I just very politely said to him, “Can you give me a little bit of space please? I’d like to be on my own for five minutes’. And he’s like, ‘Yeah, yeah, sure’, and takes one step back,” Murray said.

He said that the tests waste their precious time, as the agency asks them to go through urine, as well as blood tests.

“So when he did that, I said, ‘Right I’m going to go do my test right now’, and I went downstairs, did my urine sample, took five or 10 minutes, and then they said that I had to go and do a blood test as well,” Murray said.

“I was like, ‘Right, that’s fine, let’s do it’. And they said, ‘Sorry, you can’t do the blood test now, as you’ve got to wait until 45 minutes, an hour, after your match before you do it’. So there are so many rules and things so if you do everything right, they will still keep you waiting,” he added. (ANI)

Scientific community wanted more tests, says Santhanam

New Delhi, Aug 27 (ANI): Top defence scientist Dr.K. Santhanam said on Thursday that the scientific community in India had felt after the May 1998 nuclear tests that there should be another test to complete the research.

Speaking to ANI after controversially revealing that Pokhran II tests were not entirely successful Santhanam said: “The Science and Technology Community as a whole wanted to have some more tests.”

“…but conducting a nuclear test is a highly political decision, and no matter the wish of scientific community may be, the political leadership of the country will have its say,” he added.

Santhanam also clarified that he had at no stage said the tests were a complete failure.

“I didn’t say it was a failure but partially successful,” Santhanam added.

He also said that in the reports given to the government, the scientists had mentioned the outcome of their experiments.

“The scientific community placed its reports about the out come of the tests. They are highly classified and the political leadership of the country is aware about that,” he said.

Maintaining his stand to go for more tests before signing CTBT or NPT Santhanam said, “Many people in the administration knew that India is in need of another test.”

“The energy released after the blast were measured and the energy release was much lower than what was expected by the designers. It was not a surprise to me,” Santhanam recalled.

India tested five nuclear devices including two-sub kilo category of thermo nuclear devices code named “Operation Shakti,” on May 11 and 13, 1998 at Pokhran in Rajasthan.

Countering Santhanam’s views, former National Security Advisor Brajesh Mishra said: “When they (scientists) said about the success of the tests in 1998, May 11 and 13, we asked whether they want to go for another test, but they (scientists) said No, and were satisfied by the tests.”

“It was very clear that based on their report only, we have announced it to the world. We have not lied to any one,” Mishra said adding it was only then that plans developed to discuss civil nuclear co-operation with the United States.

” In the entire scientific history, no country has gained 100 percent success in its first test of thermo nuclear device…if we get a chance, India should go for another test, especially of a thermonuclear device.” Santhanam said.

He, however, cautioned the country’s political leadership against signing either Comprehensive test ban treaty (CTBT) or Non – proliferation treaty (NPT).

The NPT is a highly discriminative treaty and divides the whole world into a nuclear haves and have nots, “Santhanam claimed.

Santhanam said the new Indo- US nuclear deal does not come in the way of going for more tests.

“There is one clause in the Indo- US nuclear deal that if the security scenario around the country changes, then we can go for a test, and the country’s leadership should take a decision to go for a test taking confidence of all the factors involved,” Santhanam said. By Shreeraj Gudi(ANI)

Supreme Court issues notice to center to reply on gay sex verdict by July 20

New Delhi, July 9 (ANI): A two judge bench of the Supreme Court comprising Chief Justice K. G. Balkrishnan and Justice P Sathasivam today issued notice to the Union Government, to explain its stand on a petition challenging the Delhi High Court’s ruling to legalize gay sex among consenting adults.

The apex court was hearing a plea filed by astrologer Suresh Kumar Kaushal against the Delhi High Court’s verdict.

Posting the next hearing to July 20, the bench said they would hear the opinions of all the parties concerned before giving any interim order in this matter.

Notices were also issued to NAZ Foundation, and other respondents who were parties before the Delhi High Court.

Now, the ball is in government’s court as it has to make its stand clear on the matter before the apex court when it take up the matter for hearing on July 20.

Except the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM), no political party has made its stand clear on the Delhi High Court’s ruling to quash Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

When the counsel appearing for Kaushal drag the attention of the bench about seven cases of gay marriages reported after Delhi high court’s verdict, the Bench made it clear that they have not changed the definition of marriage.

The Bench said the police had not been registering cases under Section 377 of IPC, and no body has been prosecuted. Thought the clause is in place since 1860 there have been a few cases under the penal provision except those of paedophile cases, the Judges said.

In the petition Kaushal said, homosexual behavior is against the Indian societal norms, if such abnormality is permitted, it will lead society towards a wrong path. (ANI)

Jacko ‘accidentally killed himself while trying to get sick’

Melbourne, July 1 (ANI): Michael Jackson inadvertently killed himself while trying to get sick enough to avoid tour commitments, according to a prominent author.

Jackson’s contract with the firm handling the 50-show tour stated that if the singer cancelled any concert, he would have to pay a penalty to the promoters, according to The Daily Beast.

However, most contracts have a medical infirmity clause, whereby if a performer is hospitalised no penalty needs to be paid, reports News.com.au.

Author Gerald Posner says that a top member of the singer’s entourage has told him that Jackson wanted to cancel several shows without having to pay out his touring company.

Jackson intentionally took a large amount of prescription drugs to induce a trip to hospital, according to the advisor,

The advisor reportedly said: “Like a child who doesn’t want to go to school… Michael thought he could get away from his obligations if he had a ‘note from the doctor’.” (ANI)

Oz newlyweds abandoning ’till death do us part’ pledge

Melbourne, June 22 (ANI): Newlywed couples are ditching “till death do us part” wedding vows in favour of “the get out clause”, just in case their love “shall falter or fail”.

Celebrants have revealed that couples are replacing “lifelong commitment” clause with pledges “as long as our love lasts”.

Some are even making agreements to review their marriage after five years.

Celebrant Coral Kortlepel said that many newlyweds had accepted “if you’re not happy, you don’t have to stay together.”

“I actually had a couple recently that said: ‘I will love you today, I will love you tomorrow and if our love shall falter or fail, I will respect you for the period of time that you were in my life’,” the Daily Telegraph quoted Kortlepel as saying.

“People are starting to think that you’re not meant to be with one person your whole life and perhaps they needed to learn a lesson from a marriage, but then move on, if they’re not happy,” she added.

Celebrant Michael Teulon said that he once presided over a couple who had made a “three-to-five year agreement, plus options”, instead of committing for life.

But others said that they refused to oversee marriages not entered into “for life”, arguing that those were invalid.

“The way the laws are, a marriage must be voluntarily entered into by a man and a woman for life, so I wouldn’t actually perform a marriage, if the couple were putting a clause into their vows saying it might not be for life,” celebrant Elaine Searle added. (ANI)

Centre returns Gujarat’s anti terror bill

New Delhi June 19(ANI): The central government for the second time returned the Gujarat Control of Organised Crime Act (GUJCOCA), a stringent anti terrorism bill framed by the Narendra Modi’s Gujarat Government.

Addressing the press conference after the cabinet meeting, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram said the Cabinet has sought three amendments to GUJCOCA.

He also said that under this law a confession made a police officer is admissible in court and this should not be made admissible.

A clause in the act prevents the court from granting the bail if the public prosecutor opposes it, Home minister added.

Chidambaram did not specify the amendment suggested to section 20(2) of the GUJCOCA

The Union Home Minister said the Cabinet could only recommend it for the President’s nod only when all the suggested amendments are made. (ANI)

PCB to consider Yousuf for Sri Lanka Test series following NOC from ICL

Islamabad, May 28 (ANI): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ijaz Butt has said that middle order batsman Mohammad Yousuf would be considered for the Test series against Sri Lanka starting from June 27.

Yousuf has already submitted a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Indian Cricket League (ICL) to the PCB, saying he has terminated his contract with the rebel league.

However, it seems that the PCB is still undecided about the punishment for players who had sided with the ICL, The Nation reports.

Senior PCB official said any final decision in this regard would be taken by the board’s Chairman Ijaz Butt.

He said players who intend to terminate their contract with the ICL by the May 31 deadline would be allowed back into the national team after a cooling off period, or could do so by just paying fines.

“We will put up the case to the Chairman. He will take a final decision. But the International Cricket Council (ICC) has advised its member boards to have a cooling period of six to 12 months under a clause in the regulations on unauthorized tournaments,” a report submitted by the PCB Chief Operating Officer (COO) Saleem Altaf stated. Pak-Afghan Transit Agreement puts Pak FO on the wrong foot

Islamabad, May 15 (ANI): The Pakistan Foreign Office (FO) had denied reports that the Transit Trade Agreement signed between Pakistan and Afghanistan would also provide India a direct route to Afghanistan through the Wagah border, but the text of the accord has put it on wrong foot.

According to the document, the second clause of the agreement clearly mentions that not only would Afghanistan get access to the sea route, but it could also find new avenues to India and China for similar purposes.

Similarly, the agreement mentions that Pakistan too can have access to Central Asia through the Afghan transit route, The Nation reports.

Besides transit rights, access to a third country will also be granted so that all the three countries carry out trade activities with each other hassle free.

India has also been made a party in the agreement that has been inked between Pakistan and Afghanistan during the recent meeting in Washington.

The agreement may well be seen as a boon for the trade ties between India, Pakistan and Afghanistan, but strategic experts are of the view that it could prove detrimental for Pakistan in future. (ANI)

Recession drives South Africa to ‘naughty sexuality’

Cape Town, May 8 (ANI): The ongoing credit crunch has liberalised people’s attitude towards sex, at least that’s what a research panel at a recent Sexpo suggests.

The world’s largest health, sexuality and lifestyle expo, Sexpo, claims that the gloomy economic climate has seen a move back to “naughty sexuality”, reports 24.com.

“A research panel at a recent Sexpo noted a marked change in taste and naughty choices over the past two years,” organiser Silas Howarth said in a statement.

On the panel were Howarth, behavioural psychologist Dr Kris Launer, Reverend Daniel Brits, Miss Nude SA Bella Anderson and “mind power specialist” Alain D Woolf.

He said: “The global recession, job losses and bleak forecasts have had a major influence on sexuality in 2009… [This indicates] a move back to a naughty sexuality.”

“The global economic crisis, job insecurity and other stress factors will cause in increase in sexual activity between couples, acting as a stress release valve and escape clause from realities,” he added.

According to Howarth, Sexpos around the country had seen a dramatic increase in visitor numbers since the debut event in 2007.

“In some instances attendance has grown by 50 percent. A clear sign that sexuality has come out into the open in South Africa,” he said. (ANI)

Gas recipient countries debate security of energy deliveries

Sofia – Natural gas importing countries in Europe, meeting on Friday in the Bulgarian capital Sofia, called for greater energy “security” in reaction to the Russian gas crisis four months ago.

Energy security does not stop at national borders, nor does it stopat the European Union border, said EU Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso at the start of the two-day summit.

Barroso spoke of a need for “security and solidarity” in order to prevent crises such as that of the winter of 2008/2009 when financial disputes between gas producer Russia with Ukraine led to the halt of much needed energy.

“A crisis such as the gas delivery stop must not happen again,” Barroso said.

The summit is being attended by presidents or high-ranking representatives from 30 countries in Europe, the Middle East, the Black Sea region, and the Caucasus as well as the United States, most of whom import natural gas or have pipelines passing through their territory.

The goal of the summit is to find ways to secure deliveries of gas to Europe. Host country Bulgaria was hard hit by the gas crisis in January, as it is completely dependent on Russian natural gas.

Barroso expressed the hope that there would be a clause guaranteeing stable deliveries of energy in a new agreement between the EU and Russia.

He added that the EU was also encouraging Ukraine to take part in efforts for increased energy security.

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin cancelled his appearance at the summit at the last moment, due to a row with Bulgaria over the South Stream pipeline, and sent Energy Minister Sergei Shmatko in his state.

According to media reports, Bulgaria has refused to allow Russia to use its national pipeline for the “South Stream” project. (dpa)

Coach Flower could be removed if ECB chooses to axe Strauss

London, Apr.17 (ANI): England team director Andy Flower may have to consider other employment options if Andrew Strauss were to lose the captaincy, reveals former skipper Tony Greig.

Greig believes everything should be done to avoid a repeat of the Peter Moores and Kevin Pietersen fiasco.

He told Cricinfo: “I think Andy Flower deserves the job. But if I were the ECB, I would write into the new coach’s contract a clause stating that should the captaincy change, it will be the prerogative of the new captain, in consultation with the ECB, to review his position. I say this because I feel strongly that the captain should always have a say who his coach should be.” (ANI)

‘US wants master-slave relations with Pak’

Islamabad, Apr. 14 (ANI): The intention behind the United States providing preconditioned financial aid to Pakistan is that it wants to establish master-slave relations with the country, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has said.

PTI Spokesperson Dr. Shireen Mazari said her party considered the proposed bill with conditionalities unacceptable, and it should be totally rejected.

“We feel that it is now in our vital interest to create some space between the US, and ourselves since the financial assistance will actually further destabilize Pakistan,” The News quoted Mazari, as saying.

She also accused the US of intending to have the master-slave relationship with Pakistan.

“The bill’s title itself is a bad joke on the people of Pakistan – Pakistan Enduring Assistance and Cooperation Enhancement or the PEACE Act of 2009,” Mazari said.

She also criticized the Clause J of the bill for being India-specific.

The Clause required Pakistan ‘not to support any person or group that conducted violence, sabotage, or other activities meant to instill fear in India.

“Is the US going to get a similar undertaking from India? The issue is simply of sovereignty, since Pakistan already has a bilateral anti-terror agreement with India, so why this India-specific clause?” she asked.

Clause K was equally insulting, she said. It demanded of Pakistan access for the US investigators to ‘individuals suspected of engaging in worldwide proliferation of nuclear materials,’ and required Pakistan to ‘restrict such individuals from travel or any other activity that could result in further proliferation’, she said. Is Lohan responsible for Ronson’s fame and fortune?

Washington, Mar 25 (ANI): With reports of actress Lindsay Lohan spending most of her girlfriend Samantha Ronson’s hard-earned dollars emerging, insiders have revealed that the actress was the reason behind the DJ’s success.

It was also revealed that before her relationship with Lohan, Ronson had been earning just 5000 dollars a night, and after dating the actress, her rate has doubled and even gone up a little.

These days Ronson’s contract for certain bookings apparently has a clause that says if she brings Lohan along for the gigs, she would get paid around 25,000 dollars.

“A few years ago it was the same thing with AM, he earned more when he brought (then-girlfriend) Nicole Richie,” Fox News quoted an insider as saying.

“But he’s a very talented DJ and has since built a career of his own,” the insider added.

A rep for Ronson has not commented on the matter. (ANI)
