Claudia Schiffer sparks race row after posing as black woman

London, June 4 (ANI): Supermodel Claudia Schiffer is at the centre of a race row over a photograph of the beauty where she is made up as a black woman.

The 39-year-old wore dark foundation and an afro wig in the shots taken by celebrated fashion designer and photographer Karl Lagerfeld.

His images, taken two years ago for a Dom Perignon advertising campaign, were among six shots of Schiffer used by German fashion bible Stern Fotografie to celebrate its 60th anniversary.

Another one of the photographs shows Schiffer, 39, made up to resemble an Asian woman.

But the images have not gone down well with Shevelle Rhule, fashion editor at black lifestyle magazine Pride, openly saying that the images were tasteless.

“It shows poor taste and it”s offensive,” the Telegraph quoted her as telling the Daily Mail.

“There are not enough women of colour featured in mainstream magazines. This just suggests you can counteract the problem by using white models.

“I don”t believe they deliberately set out to offend, they obviously see it as being arty and feel that they are pushing boundaries.

“But clearly no thought has been given to the history behind what they have done and the comparisons it draws with minstrel shows,” she added.

Representatives of the model, however, claim the pictures were not intended to offend and were ‘taken out of context’. (ANI)

Pregnant Claudia Schiffer poses nude for mag

New York, May 11 (ANI): Soon-to-be mum Claudia Schiffer is showing off her baby bump to the world – she posed nude for a fashion mag.

Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld shot Schiffer, 39, for the June cover of Vogue Germany.

Schiffer”s pose bears striking resemblance to Demi Moore”s infamous 1991 Vanity Fair cover in which the actress posed nude at seven-months pregnant.

Schiffer is expecting a baby girl with hubby, filmmaker Matthew Vaughn, in May.

The couple are already parents to seven-year-old Caspar, and five-year-old Clementine.

Schiffer admits that her roles as a wife and mum have helped her change her once workaholic lifestyle.

“I used to work every single day and travel round the world. I worked weekends, I never took one second off,” the New York Daily News quoted her as telling the Daily Mail.

Schiffer added: “When I met my husband I said, ”You know what, this is important. I”m not going to work weekends any more.” And when I had kids, I became even more careful. Modeling work is fine because you can do one day here, two days there – you”re never long gone.”

She added: “I love being pregnant.

“You can do whatever you want. You don”t feel guilty, because I used to feel guilty about having a day off.

“And, you know, something really strange happened to me. Before my pregnancies, I was someone who had to watch their weight. I had a personal trainer, I was working out, I would never eat anything sweet,” she continued. “Anyway, I got pregnant and when I was breastfeeding it just came off. I can eat whatever I want. If I don”t eat enough, I will lose weight.” (ANI)

Paltrow and Knightley to model Comic Relief T-shirts by Stella McCartney

Another T-shirt had Morecambe and Wise, the comic duo, captured by David Bailey, the veteran photographer, and all the photos had a slight alteration made – their subjects were given red noses.

The fashion designer had a number of celebrities and friends at the event, including Gwyneth Paltrow, Keira Knightley, Claudia Schiffer and Sam Taylor-Wood, who were photographed by her sister, Mary McCartney, wearing the T-shirts.

The T-shirts, which will go on sale on February 9 at 214 TK Maxx stores nationwide, have been priced from 5.99 pounds for babies and children, and 9.99 pounds for adults.

Profits from the sale will go to Comic Relief ahead of Red Nose Day on March 13.
