Rebels will water down Super rugby: Jones

An extra Australian team should not have been added to the Super rugby competition, former Wallaby coach Eddie Jones says.

The Melbourne Rebels are the new franchise named to play in the inaugural Super 15 next year after SANZAR expanded the Super 14 tournament.

But Jones, who led the Brumbies to the 2001 Super 12 title and also coached the Queensland Reds in the Super 14, said the Rebels should not have been included.

“The addition of another Australian franchise is not good for Australian rugby nor for the competition,” he said.

“The reason they’re in is because of TV rights. The current 14-team competition is just starting to find its feet and this year is the most competitive it has been for a while, with eight or nine teams in contention.”

The man who steered the Wallabies to the 2003 World Cup final said the four existing Australian franchises had already been stretched to produce quality players.

“Another Australian side is just going to weaken the third and fourth teams,” he said.

“If you consider South Africa, they have a great number of players but can still only support four very good Super 14 sides.

“It’s unrealistic for Australia to have five teams and it will be bad for Wallaby rugby in the short term, for the next 10 to 15 years.”

Limited quality

The Melbourne Rebels have an exemption to sign 10 overseas players and have already brought in New South Wales Waratahs hooker and ex-Wallaby Adam Freier, former national captain Stirling Mortlock and England fly half Danny Cipriani.

But Jones said the Rebels would struggle due to a lack of top class players.

“They haven’t exactly signed a whole lot of quality players,” he said.

“There are only two areas in Australia that produce rugby union players – New South Wales and Queensland – and if you are a youngster from there and you have a choice between Melbourne or Perth to live in, it’s a no-brainer where you’ll go.

“So the Western Force are the side that will really be affected and they’re weak enough as it is.

“They spent huge amounts of money on players like Matt Giteau and Nathan Sharpe and now what?”.

The Force are 13th in the Super 14 standings, having won just one of their seven matches.

Jones did, however, praise the new law interpretations being used in Super 14, which he said have reduced the amount of kicking that caused so much frustration last season.

“It’s the best thing to happen to rugby. Last year we had 65 to 70 kicks per game and now it is down to 50 so there is a much greater balance between attack and defence,” he said.

“The quality of the rugby is much better.”

Kelly Brook donates clothes for charity

London, Mar 22 (ANI): English model/actress Kelly Brook has revealed that she has donated some of her clothes in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Brook, 30, who is dating rugby player Danny Cipriani, 22, is hosting The Skinny Cow Swap Shop in London and Manchester for the charity.

“I’ve donated a little trilby, biker boots, a lovely pink coat and I’m going to dig out a few sparkly dresses as well,” the Daily Express quoted her as saying.

“During these times of recession, because you’re watching your pennies, it’s a good opportunity for girls to get some new things,” she added. (ANI)

Wilkinson axed as England rings changes

Jonny Wilkinson has been dropped for England’s final Six Nations game against France this weekend as manager Martin Johnson made six changes from the side that laboured to a 15-15 draw with Scotland last weekend.

Wilkinson, who went off after 44 minutes at Murrayfield following a blow to the head, is replaced at fly half by Toby Flood but remains in the squad among the replacements.

It is only the third time in his England career that Wilkinson has been dropped because of form rather than injury.

“You need a strong squad. Going forward the next 18 months towards a World Cup, we are going to need at least two of everything,” Johnson said.

“It’s great that we’ve got Toby there and Jonny fighting it out and obviously the younger guys beneath them as well all pushing to get up.”

Winger Ugo Monye, another to receive a head injury against the Scots, is replaced by Northampton’s uncapped Chris Ashton, the Premiership’s leading try-scorer, while full-back Delon Armitage, who has struggled for form throughout the tournament, gives way for Ben Foden to make his first start following some lively contributions from the bench.

Outside centre Mathew Tait, hailed as England’s great creative hope when recalled by Johnson at the start of the tournament, is dropped again as 31-year-old World Cup-winner Mike Tindall makes his first appearance for a year.

In the pack, Simon Shaw has recovered from a shoulder injury and comes back in place of Louis Deacon while Lewis Moody, dropped against Scotland, returns at openside flanker.

Joe Worsley switches to blindside with James Haskell dropping to the bench. Lock Steve Borthwick will again lead the team having overcome a knee injury.

The backline changes appear to be a belated recognition by Johnson of his team’s dire lack of attacking intent.

In 1999 Clive Woodward opted for Paul Grayson over Wilkinson in the World Cup quarter-final defeat by South Africa in Paris, while in 2008 he made way for Danny Cipriani in a Six Nations win over Ireland.

Wilkinson has struggled to take control of games in the current Six Nations and has also been uncharacteristically wayward with his goalkicking.

Flood, who replaced him in the second half at Murrayfield, has looked marginally more inventive but he too has struggled with his kicking and missed a late penalty against Scotland that would have won the game.

Northampton’s Foden has looked England’s most exciting player in his off-the-bench cameos and deserves his start ahead of Armitage. Likewise Ashton, who was brought into the training squad at the start of the tournament but has yet to feature.

Tindall’s recall for his 61st cap following yet another long injury lay-off has much to do with countering the threat of mighty French centre Mathieu Bastareaud.

England is likely to finish third in the standings whatever the result in Paris, while France should win its first title since 2007, even if it was to suffer a surprise defeat.

They have eight points to the six of Ireland and though the Irish will expect to beat Scotland in Dublin, they have a points difference deficit of 50 to make up.

London, Sep 14 (ANI): Kelly Brook’s rugby beau Danny Cipriani is apparently not too happy with her steamy new flick.

According to reports, the England fly half, 21, was annoyed over the web coverage of 29-year-old Kelly’s “boobs and bikinis” movie ‘Piranha’.

“Danny’s a wholesome chap. The bikini scenes are a bit risqué,” The Daily Star quoted a source as saying.

Kelly and Danny have been dating since September 2008.

‘The Italian Job’ actress has earlier dated English actor Jason Statham for seven years and was engaged to actor Billy Zane, whom she met while filming thriller ‘Survival Island’. (ANI)

A source said that Cowell’s card was probably “maxed out” after recent spending. (ANI)

Kelly Brook’s boob-grabbing holiday with rugby beau

London, Apr 11 (ANI): Putting all split rumours to rest, Kelly Brook’s beau Danny Cipriani has certainly proved she is still his squeeze, for he playfully grabbed her boob on a holiday in the Caribbean.

Kelly, 29 and her rugby hunk beau were seen kissing and frolicking in the sea, looking as much in love as before.

Rumours that the couple’s seven-month relationship had ended started spreading after Kelly jetted off to the sun with her mother, leaving Danny in London.

However, the ex-Big Breakfast star and the 21-year-old Wasps and England ace are very much together, and were also spotted cuddling on a jet-ski on their holiday.

“They were all over each other. When they weren’t kissing and hugging they splashed each other with water,” the Sun quoted a fellow holidaymaker as saying.

The couple began dating last year, following Kelly’s break-up with her then actor fiance Billy Zane, 43. (ANI)

Kelly Brook ‘dumped’ as Britain’s Got Talent judge

London, Jan 20 (ANI): Kelly Brook has reportedly been axed from the Britain’s Got Talent judging panel- after just six days in the job.

Brook was hired by Simon Cowell on a 200,000-pound contract to add glamour to the hit ITV show.

The model and presenter, 29, was unveiled as a judge alongside Cowell, Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden.

However, after reviewing tapes over the weekend, show producers decided the new format with four people on the panel slowed down the pace of the show, and Brook paid the price.

Brook, who is dating rugby ace Danny Cipriani, was said to be “stunned and very angry” over the decision.

However, as the first Manchester auditions wore on last week, it became clear that Brook was not suitable for the role.

“She simply didn’t have what it takes. There have been a lot of tears and tantrums the past few days. Kelly came breezing in and Amanda, in particular, was very worried. But as soon as the first act came in it was clear that Kelly wasn’t ready,” the Mirror quoted an insider, a saying.

“You have to think on your feet to come up with something good to say each time. It can be very tough keeping it fresh. Kelly struggled from the start. Simon and the producers tried to give her advice, but it didn’t seem to work.

“She got very stressed and upset as she thought people were having a go and that just made her more nervous. There was an almighty row and it was downhill from there,” the insider added. (ANI)

Kelly Brook follows beau Danny Cipriani”s gruelling training to get ‘fit’

London, Jan 02 (ANI): Hollywood babe Kelly Brooks is these days busy toning her body, and has asked rugby star beau Danny Cipriani for some hands-on help, it has emerged.

The 29-year-old was so bowled over by Cipriani’s toned body and insatiable appetite for food that she has decided to go his way to achieve an incredible bod, sources said.

Thus, she has embarked on a grueling training and diet regime.

“Danny has an incredible physique and works really hard to maintain it. Watching him go off to the gym every day, Kelly’s been inspired to follow suit and get fit. She also loves how much food he can pack away and reckons if a bit of hard work on the treadmill means she can eat what she likes, then it’s worth it,” The Mirror quoted a source, as saying.

“Danny thinks Kelly’s beautiful as she is but agreed to devise a training programme for her.

“He’s used one similar to that given to the Wasps boys, but obviously she’s lifting far lighter weights – and not doing scrums.

“As well as sprint and interval training, Danny suggested some serious weightlifting work. Squats, deadlifts, pull-ups… the works,” the source added. (ANI)
