I made martinis for my dad at age 6: Gwyneth Paltrow

London, May 21 (ANI): Iron Man star Gwyneth Paltrow has revealed that she used to mix martinis for her dad at the age of six, and that she enjoys drinking the odd cocktail herself.

Paltrow, 37, who is married to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, told of her drink-mixing skills as she took part in a British TV cookery show.

“I love a dirty martini. I used to make my dad his drinks when I was about six!” the Sun quoted her as saying.

She also revealed that she has been cooking “seriously” for 15 years. (ANI)

Paltrow pulls out of ‘The Danish Girl’ after Kidman ‘snub’

Melbourne, April 19 (ANI): Gwyneth Paltrow has reportedly decided to pull out of new film ‘The Danish Girl’ because of co-star Nichole Kidman.

Sources say that Kidman’s cold reactions turned off Paltrow and she decided to step out from the project.

Paltrow was shooting for her upcoming film ‘Love Don’t Let Me Down’ in Nashville, which is near to place where Kidman lives, and tried to get in touch with her, but the Aussie actress declined.

“Gwyneth made the effort to get in touch with Nicole but Nicole declined,” the Daily Telegraph quoted a source as saying.

“Gwyneth is on her own and lonely, it would have been nice for Nicole to make the effort,” the source added.

Paltrow has, however, said that she has quit the project due to tiredness.

“Some days I feel like everyone in my world has plugged themselves into my kidneys. I”m so tired,” she told Harper”s Bazaar magazine.

A rep for Paltrow said: “Chris (Martin, her husband) and Gwyneth have spent a lot of time apart. This way she gets more family time”” (ANI)

Vettori asks not to write off ‘determined’ Martin yet

Wellington, Apr 1 (ANI): Concerned over the lack of form of fast bowler Chris Martin, New Zealand skipper and selector, Daniel Vettori, has asked people not to write off the pacer yet.

Martin’s overall figures across the six tests this summer were 16 wickets at an average of 47.93.

“I hope people don’t write his obituary just yet. I know he is determined to play for a while longer. He wants 200 Test wickets and the next Test match is not for six months [Bangladesh] so I’m really confident Chris Martin can be in the mix with the fast bowlers,” Vettori said.

Martin sits fourth on the New Zealand Test-wicket table with 181 scalps, ahead of him only Richard Hadlee (431), Vettori (325) and Chris Cairns (218), Stuff.co.nz reports.

But age appears to be catching up with him because there was a definite lack of spring in his body in Hamilton.

“I know he wants to and is desperate to keep playing. He is not pleased with his performance in this test match and hopefully that makes him hungry to get better and get stronger for next season,” Vettori said.

Vettori is also backing Wellington off spinner Jeetan Patel, who has struggled this summer and took 2-170 in the second test in Hamilton.

Vettori indicated other spinners Nathan McCullum and Luke Woodcock were still behind him in the test queue. (ANI)

Gwyneth Paltrow refutes split rumours

London, March 26 (ANI): Gwyneth Paltrow has refuted reports that her relationship with husband Chris Martin is on the rocks.

Earlier, America”s In Touch magazine had claimed that the couple’s marriage was in trouble.

A source had said: “They”re ready to split permanently by moving into separate, but adjoining, homes in London.”

However, Paltrow”s spokesperson has come forward to dismiss the report as “complete fabrication”.

“How many times have we seen this rumour come and go? (It is a) complete fabrication (without) an ounce of truth.” the Daily Star quoted the spokesperson as telling Gossip.com.

Also, Paltrow had denied earlier this month she was planning to move back to the U.S. (ANI)

Franklin joins New Zealand squad for Hamilton Test

Sydney, Mar 25 (ANI): New Zealand has called up fast bowler James Franklin to join the squad for Saturday’s second Test against Australia in Hamilton.

Australia leads the two-match series 1-0 after a 10-wicket win in Wellington on Tuesday.

“There has been a lot of rain in Hamilton of late, and it is fair to say that the conditions we saw today at Seddon Park, at this stage, are far different to those we experienced earlier in the season,” New Zealand coach Mark Greatbatch said in a statement.

“We thought it prudent to have all our bases covered, and James does that for us,” Sydney Morning Herald quoted Greatbatch, as saying.

The Black Caps hope Franklin’s batting will add depth to their tail at No.8, after New Zealand lost 5-9 in their first innings of the first Test and their last four wickets for nine runs in their second innings.

The 14-man squad also includes uncapped 19-year-old batsman Kane Williamson, who could be vying for a spot in the side with Mathew Sinclair to replace out-of-form No.3 Peter Ingram.

Squad: Daniel Vettori (capt), Brent Arnel, Martin Guptill, Peter Ingram, Brendon McCullum, Tim McIntosh, Chris Martin, Jeetan Patel, Mathew Sinclair, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor, BJ Watling, Kane Williamson, James Franklin. (ANI)

Gwyneth Paltrow dismisses US move rumours

London, Mar 24 (ANI): Gwyneth Paltrow has slammed rumours that she is moving to New York with her family.

The Hollywood actress has claimed that they are staying in London.

The California-born star moved to Britain when she married Coldplay frontman Chris Martin in 2003, and the couple is now parents to Apple, five, and Moses, three.

Recently, rumours started making rounds that Paltrow was planning to return to her native U.S. to avoid uprooting her family up every time she films movie roles there.

However, she has insisted that she and her family are happily settled in the U.K.

“I am so not moving back to New York. We are all very happy in London – it”s a great place to live and work and raise a family,” the Daily Express quoted her as saying. (ANI)

Young Black Caps all rounder Williamson to debut against Australia in Hamilton

Melbourne, Mar 24 (ANI): New Zealand all rounder Kane Williamson (19) is all set to make his debut against Australia in the second Test in Hamilton.

Black Caps coach Mark Greatbatch said the all-rounder had been a stand out this season in domestic cricket and deserved an opportunity to be involved at a higher level.

Williamson is the only change to the team, which lost to Australia by 10 wickets in Wellington, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.

“Kane is an exciting young player and has scored a lot of runs in our domestic competition. This is a good chance for him to be involved in the Black Caps environment. Along with Mathew Sinclair, he gives us various options and balances in the side,” Greatbatch said.

Mathew Sinclair also returns to the 13-man squad for the second test, which begins on Saturday.

The squad is: Daniel Vettori (Capt), Brent Arnel, Martin Guptill, Peter Ingram, Brendon McCullum, Tim McIntosh, Chris Martin, Jeetan Patel, Mathew Sinclair, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor, BJ Watling, Kane Williamson. (ANI)

Black Caps considering 31yo debutant

New Zealand is considering handing a debut to 31-year-old seamer Brent Arnel for Friday’s first Test against Australia at Wellington’s Basin Reserve.

Kiwi skipper Daniel Vettori said the pitch appears to have a bit of grass on top and may suit a four-man pace attack, rather than including second spinner Jeetan Patel.

“It depends how much it dries over the next little while,” Vettori said.

“If you looked at it now you’d say it’s got a bit of greenness in it and a bit of moisture so you look at the seamers.

“But we’ll delay that decision as late as we can.

“We’re trying to pick a team that can cover every option. You know what you’re going to get when you come to the Basin.

“He (Arnel) has been waiting in the wings a little while and has been involved in a few squads.

“Hopefully if he does get the nod then he is ready.”

New Zealand squad: Daniel Vettori (c), Brent Arnel, Martin Guptill, Peter Ingram, Brendon McCullum, Tim McIntosh, Chris Martin, Jeetan Patel, Mathew Sinclair, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor, Daryl Tuffey, BJ Watling.

Clarke”s ton puts Aussies in drivers seat on day 1 of Wellington Test

Wellington, Mar. 19 (ANI): Australian vice-captain Michael Clarke has returned to the Test team in emphatic style scoring his 14th Test hundred against New Zealand in Wellington.

Clarke (100 not out) put aside his broken engagement to celebrity model Lara Bingle to help Australia to a comfortable 4/316 at stumps.

Western Australian left-hander Marcus North, whose position in the team was under intense scrutiny, is 52 not out after sharing in an unbeaten partnership of 140 with Clarke..

Earlier, opener Simon Katich got Australia off to a solid start, scoring a typically gritty 79 before being trapped LBW by debutant Brent Arnel

Katich, who hit eight fours and one six, was lucky not to be out caught behind on 68 off Tim Southee’s bowling and again next over he gave a chance to mid-on from spinner Daniel Vettori on 70.

Ricky Ponting was run out soon after lunch for 41 after a mix-up with Katich, who pushed a ball to cover and the skipper hesitated before falling well short of his ground at the striker’s end.

Katich, who appeared to be the one who called, threw his head back in disappointment at his role in the key dismissal and Ponting was furious as he departed.

Mike Hussey (4) was caught in slips off Chris Martin’s bowling, making it 3-115.

After the dramatic and last-minute withdrawal of opener Shane Watson, Australia reached 1-93 at lunch.

Watson pulled out with a hip injury after a bruise inflicted by Kiwi paceman Shane Bond during the one-day international series developed into a muscle strain.

The 21-year-old Hughes, playing his seventh Test, slashed a wide ball from debutant seamer Brent Arnel to slip in the sixth over.

Hughes hit four boundaries and faced only 24 deliveries.

Team physio Alex Kountouris said it was hoped Watson would be available for the second Test in Hamilton starting on March 27.

Kountouris said Watson was struck on the hip/backside area during the fourth one-day international against New Zealand in Auckland on March 11.

He said Watson played the fifth ODI game two days later in Wellington and felt only mild discomfort.

Australia named Victorian quick Clint McKay as 12th man while spinner Jeetan Patel will carry the drinks for the Black Caps.

Teams:

Australia: Rick Ponting (capt), Simon Katich, Phillip Hughes, Mike Hussey, Michael Clarke, Marcus North, Brad Haddin, Mitchell Johnson, Nathan Hauritz, Ryan Harris, Doug Bollinger, Clint McKay (12th man).

New Zealand: Daniel Vettori (capt), Tim McIntosh, BJ Watling, Peter Ingram, Ross Taylor, Martin Guptill, Brendon McCullum, Daryl Tuffey, Tim Southee, Brent Arnel, Chris Martin, Jeetan Patel (12th man). (ANI)

Clarke ready to play: Nielsen

Australia coach Tim Nielsen says vice-captain Michael Clarke’s recent off-field dramas will have no major effect on the squad.

Clarke left the squad a week ago with three matches remaining in the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy series against New Zealand and rushed home to Sydney to sort out his relationship with model Lara Bingle, who was attempting to deal with a nude photo scandal.

As one front-page gossip item after another hit the headlines in the next few days, Clarke’s management announced on Friday that the celebrity couple’s engagement was off.

Clarke returned to Wellington on Monday and was met by a media swarm at the airport.

He skipped a team function later in the evening but will play at Wellington’s Basin Reserve in the first Test against the Black Caps beginning on Friday.

“He (Clarke) is a player going through a personal issue like players tend to every day of the week,” Nielsen said.

“It’s just that we happen to do it in a public forum, pretty much.

“We’re all supporting him and he’s comfortable where he’s at.”

Black Caps quick Chris Martin says he and his team-mates will not sledge Clarke about his engagement break-off with Bingle.

“That’s pretty much how it works. The fans will probably have a ball but that’s nothing to do with us,” he said.

Chris Martin relishing Aussie challenge

Wellington, Mar.16 (ANI): New Zealand fast bowler Chris Martin is looking forward to the challenge of facing Australia in the first Test to be played in Wellington from Friday.

Martin has a successful record at the Basin Reserve, fashioning a bowling average of 26.31 in eleven Tests played here so far.

It compares favourably with his overall test record of 180 wickets at an average of 33.78, in 54 matches.

Martin has, however, yet to taste similar success against Australia, with his average in eight tests 74.14, with best figures of five for 152.

“I have found that in the past that I have bowled as well as I could (against the Australians) without really getting the results,” Martin said. (ANI)

Gwyneth Paltrow exposes more than intended in Barcelona

London, Sep 8 (ANI): American actress Gwyneth Paltrow is said to have exposed more than she intended during an airport security check in Barcelona on September 7.

Paltrow, 36, was preparing for her flight home after seeing hubby Chris Martin, 32, in concert with Coldplay, when the incident took place, reports the Sun.

She was seen wearing a white baggy vest, which hung loosely on her and exposed her boob.

Luckily the ‘Iron Man’ star, who was accompanied by her two kids Apple and Moses, had her skin-coloured bra on and it prevented further exposure. (ANI)

Sangakkara reclaims number-one position in Test batting

Dubai, Aug 31 (ANI): Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara has reclaimed the number-one position in the ICC Player Rankings for Test batsmen for the fourth time in his career after brilliant knocks in the second Test against New Zealand.

The Sri Lanka captain followed up his half-century in the first innings with an exquisite 109 – his 20th Test century – to reclaim the top position from India’s Gautam Gambhir.

Sangakkara first achieved the number-one ranking in December 2007 before he returned to the top spot in March 2008 and then in July 2009.

He is not the only one on the move after a successful campaign against New Zealand. Sangakkara’s predecessor Mahela Jayawardena and middle-order batsmen Thilan Samaraweera, who was player of the series, have both achieved career-best rankings.

While Jayawardena has jumped four places to third position after knocks of 92 and 96 which made him the first Asian and fourth overall to be out in the 90s twice in a Test, Samaraweera’s 11th century in what was his 54th Test has put him just outside the top 10 in 12th position after he had started the Test in 16th position.

Tillakaratne Dilshan, however, has failed to defend his 19th position and has dropped out of the top 20 after falling two places following knocks of 29 and 33.

New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor and captain Daniel Vettori have also made movements in the right direction.

Taylor, who contributed 81 and 27 in the lost cause, has jumped four places to share 23rd spot with West Indies’ Chris Gayle while Vettori’s fourth Test century has helped him improve his ranking by one position. He now sits in 28th spot.

The only change in the top 20 of the Reliance Mobile ICC Player Rankings for Test bowlers is New Zealand fast bowler Chris Martin who has slipped two places to 18th position.

Sri Lanka’s left-arm spinner Rangana Herath is the biggest mover in the bowlers’ rankings as the 31-year-old from Kurunegala has rocketed 12 places to 28th spot after match figures of 8-209, including 5-139 in the second innings.

New Zealand off-spinner Jeetan Patel is the other bowler to rise in the latest bowling table. The off-spinner has climbed three places to 46th after match figures of 6-200, including 4-78 in the first innings.

South Africa’s Dale Steyn leads the bowlers’ ranking from Muttiah Muralidaran of Sri Lanka and Mitchell Johnson of Australia.

There is also no change in the top five of the Reliance Mobile ICC Player Rankings for Test all-rounders as Jacques Kallis continues to lead the field by a distance. However, Vettori has achieved his career-best rating that has helped him open up the gap with third-placed Johnson. (ANI)

Gwyneth ‘wants to create an empire’

Washington, Aug 29 (ANI): Actress Gwyneth Paltrow is considering launching her own line of lifestyle brands, according to sources.

The mom-of-two apparently wants to set an example for women and prove that it is possible to juggle motherhood with business.

“She has become a power multi-tasker, so she’ll take meetings while she’s sitting around her movie sets. Gwyneth wants to create an empire, but her first priority is always to her family,” Contactmusic quoted a source as telling FOX411 blog.

The insider said: “She is finding ways to merge the two so that other women and mothers will be able to do the same.”

The ‘Emma’ star is reportedly modelling herself on US entrepreneur Martha Stewart.

In fact, her singer husband Chris Martin seems to refer to her as Martha, who was a successful TV host, author and magazine publisher, until she was sentenced to five months in prison for certain charges.

A source said: “Chris has even dubbed her meetings about her new direction as her ‘Martha Stewart meetings’. Her plan is to stay visible in the occasional film, but to create products for real women.

“She is working on new products for her own beauty line under Estee Lauder and looking at different products for moms at home that she can tie to her website, GOOP.” (ANI)

Natalie Imbruglia had ‘semi-nervous breakdown’ while working with Chris Martin

Melbourne, Aug 25 (ANI): Aussie singer Natalie Imbruglia has revealed that she had a ‘semi-nervous breakdown’ while working with ‘Coldplay’ frontman Chris Martin on her new album.

Imbruglia, 34, said that collaborating with Martin, 31, was difficult because of his directness.

“When I worked with Chris Martin he was very honest and brutal with me,” News.com.au quoted her as telling NME.

“He helped me with my tracklisting and we got rid of riff-raff. Sometimes we agreed, sometimes we disagreed.

“The hard bit is him saying which songs he doesn’t like, but it’s refreshing to have someone of that calibre with you.

“So yes – I had a semi-nervous breakdown,” she added.

Imbruglia’s new album ‘Come To Life’ is to be released on October 5. (ANI)

Natalie Imbruglia nearly cried hearing Chris Martin’s song for her

Washington, Aug 24 (ANI): Aussie singer-songwriter Natalie Imbruglia has revealed that she was almost in tears when she heard the “beautiful” song Coldplay’s frontman Chris Martin had written for her.

Imbruglia, 34, said she was overcome with emotion when she first heard ‘Fun’, a track penned by Martin, 32, and which will appear on her forthcoming album ‘Come To Life’.

“I feel very lucky to have it. When I went into the studio and he said, ‘I’ve finished the song’, and he sang it to me, I nearly did one of those ugly cries because it’s so beautiful,” Contactmusic quoted her as saying.

“It’s really simple and not overdone but kind of awesome at the same time. It’s really big, lots of strings. There’s just something so emotive that I think is really stunning,” she stated. (ANI)

Gwyneth Paltrow gives cold shoulder to Scarlett Johannson on ‘Iron Man 2′ set

Washington, Aug 18 (ANI): Gwyneth Paltrow was reportedly far from friendly on the sets of ‘Iron Man 2′, and clearly snubbed her co-star Scarlett Johansson and members of the production crew.

According to a source, some crew members said that Gwyneth, who plays Pepper Potts in the film, did nothing to make friends with Scarlett, playing the Black Widow.

And the crew actually preferred to be around her husband, Coldplay frontman, Chris Martin.

“Gwyneth is extremely cool at work. She’s just a step above professional, too snobby,” Fox News quoted the on-set source as saying.

The source added: “Gwyneth is not friendly to anyone, and tends to make people feel awkward and uncomfortable. She wasn’t outright rude to Scarlett, she just didn’t ever speak to her. Gwyneth went out of her way to avoid Scarlett, and they had zero contact, at Gwyneth’s choosing.”

In fact, the actress was not even warm with the hair and makeup staff and other members of the crew.

“Gwyneth would be very put out if hair and makeup were running behind or things were not on schedule. Usually, nothing was drastically late, but Gwyneth can instantly say something that lets everyone know she is put out,” the source said.

“Much of the crew didn’t mind hanging out with her husband, Chris, but if Gwyneth ever came around, they scattered! Chris is so chill and relaxed and she is just the opposite. Chris has been a crew favourite since the filming of the first movie,” the source added. (ANI)

Shane- Simone romance saga back on track?

Las Vegas, July 4 (ANI): The on-and-off Shane Warne and Simone Callahan romance saga seems to be back on track.

After taking some initial steps to rekindle their rocky relationship last Christmas, former Australian cricketer Warne and his ex-wife are staying together in Las Vegas.

The retired leg-spinner is in America’s gambling capital, representing 888 Poker in the world series.

He has brought his entire family along for company, The Courier Mail reports.

The couple’s three children are believed to be staying at one of Las Vegas’ best hotels, enjoying the attractions.

The exact status of their relationship is still unclear and they have made no public statement.

It is understood they have been keen to keep the relationship private, while making slow, purposeful steps towards full reconciliation.

Recently, the pair was spotted getting cosy backstage at the Sound relief concert.

Warne raised many eyebrows as he tried getting cosy with his ex-wife, who seemed pretty interested in him.

Callahan was also seen reciprocating the feelings, as she eagerly waited and watched in the wings when Warne helped Chris Martin and his band Cold Play perform a rendition of The Monkeys” hit I”m A Believer’. (ANI)

Simon Pegg excited about becoming dad

London, July 02(ANI): English comedian Simon Pegg, who is expecting a child with wife Maureen McCann, is excited about the impending arrival of his baby.

“It’s the most important thing to me. I’m very excited. I want to be a really good dad, a good influence and a good role model – someone my child can turn to, whatever the hell that means… It’s all to do with your attitude and making sure they stay grounded, but making sure they aren’t deprived of anything,” the Daily Express quoted him as saying.

He is also ready to fulfill every wish of his expected child.

He said: “If you’ve got the money to give them things, and it’s a positive thing, then you should do it – education, whatever they need.”

The actor is also delighted that his offspring will be born in Los Angeles, which entitles the baby to dual citizenship.

He adds: “It struck me that, technically, he or she could eventually become President of the United States. The potential is there!”

The ‘Shaun of the Dead’ actor is already godfather to Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin’s daughter Apple. (ANI)
