Chinese restaurant manager swallows cockroach to destroy evidence!

Kuala Lumpur, May 18 (ANI): A restaurant manager in China swallowed a cockroach that was discovered in a customer”s dish to destroy evidence.

The incident took place when Huang Xiaogang and friends were having their meal at a restaurant in Caidian of Wuhan province recently.

Huang found a black creature in the bowl of mushrooms and picked it up with his chopsticks.

To his surprise that tiny black thing was a dead cockroach and complained to the restaurant manager, reports the Daily Chilli.

The manager gagged about the happening and said that the insect had been “sterilised in high temperature” and was not dirty anymore.

Assuring Huang that the insect would not cause any harm to their health, he picked it up and swallowed it.

The manager later told health officers that he was afraid that the customers would demand high compensation that is why he swallowed the cockroach to destroy evidence.

He then waived off Huang”s bill of 570 Yuan. (ANI)

Saying ‘no’ Minister may cause ‘embarrassment’ in China!

London, August 9 (ANI): When Scottish Secretary Jim Murphy visited Beijing in March this year, he was advised to say “yes, but it will be difficult” as an alternative to saying “no”, in a bid to avoid a faux pas.

The suggestion to Murphy was part of a guide to Chinese etiquette, which has been published by the Scotland Office under Freedom of Information legislation.

It suggested that using the word “no” could cause “embarrassment and loss of face”.

The Scottish Secretary was also warned against offering a welcoming dram, arriving late for functions, and suggesting that China was a backward country.

“They are very sensitive to suggestions that they are ‘backward’. It helps to praise areas of China that are modern, built up and conspicuously wealthy – enthusiasm for poorer, more traditional or rural areas will cause bafflement and sometimes even offence,” the Scotsman quoted the document as stating.

Murphy was also advised to bring gifts for his hosts in lucky colours, such as gold and red, and not to write on their business cards, as that caused offence.

When hosting his own events, the Scottish Secretary was warned of the pitfalls that could arise from the Chinese habit of downing their drinks to toast the company.

“Frequent toasts, finishing the whole glass to good health, Sino-British friendship and so on are standard. Many Chinese have a low capacity for beer or non-rice wine. If you host a meal, then soft drinks should be available,” said the guide.

“Do not leave your chopsticks pointing into a bowl, as this resembles images Chinese associate with death. Place them horizontally on the rest provided,” it added. (ANI)

New York man holds 100 Guinness records

New York – A New York businessman achieved the record of all records, becoming the first person to simultaneously hold 100 Guinness World Records.

Guinness World Records confirmed Wednesday evening that 54-year-old Ashrita Forman is holding 100 records that have never been bested. Furman made his first entry into the Guinness Book of World Records 30 years ago, by doing 27,000 jumping jacks within 5 hours.

He said he has achieved about 230 records, but many of them have since been broken.

Furman, who manages a health food store in Queens, earned his 100th title Tuesday by arranging the group reading of a poem in 110 languages, including Zulu and Rhaeto-Romanic.

The poem read was titled Precious, by Indian spiritual leader and artist Sri Chimnoy, who before his death in 2007 also held several records. Furman recruited more than 100 New York friends to recite the poem in their language, beating Hong Kong’s International Social Service who five months ago presented a text in 79 languages.

Other records included eating 38 M and Ms with chopsticks in one minute.

Guiness World Records, formerly known as the Guinness Book of World Records, has been published each year since 1955 and sold 100 million copies until 2003.

Eating with chopsticks can help you lose weight

London, Jan 17 (ANI): Forget diet pills, long walks and starving yourself, just grab your shoes and head towards the supermarket to buy chopsticks, for the tapered sticks can help you lose weight.

That’s the conclusion of a new book.

In ‘The Chopsticks Diet’ by Kimiko Barber, she says that part of the reason for their elegant figures is their practice of using chopsticks.

According to Barber, “Eating with chopsticks slows you down, and so you eat less.”

Gobbling food makes a person overeat because it takes their brain 20 minutes to register what their stomach contains, reports the Telegraph.

When it comes to proper meals, eating with chopsticks also means taking smaller mouthfuls, which tend to get chewed better, slowing down the meal, and making it easier to digest. (ANI)
