Theron will not play Kidman’s wife in sex-change drama

Washington, Sep 16 (ANI): South African actress Charlize Theron has turned down a role in a new movie about the first person to undergo a sex-change operation.

Theron, 34, was to play as Gerda Wegener, the wife of artist Einar Wegener opposite Nicole Kidman, 42, in ‘The Danish Girl’, but she recently turned down the role.

Kidman will star and co-produce the project, which is adapted from David Ebershoff’s novel about Wegener, who underwent a procedure to become a woman in the early 1930s.

Tomas Alfredson, who will direct the film, is refusing to let the casting hiccup upset his filming schedule.

“We have been in talks for close to a year, and we are soon going into production,” Contactmusic quoted him as having told Daily Variety. (ANI)

Theron stunned by South African men’s ‘sex with young virgin’ AIDS cure belief

Washington, August 20 (ANI): Hollywood actress Charlize Theron is stunned that despite a lot of efforts being made to spread AIDS awareness among people, HIV-positive men in her native South Africa believe that they will be cured of the disease if they have sex with a young virgin.

She founded the Cape Town Rape Crisis Centre in 1999 with a view to halting her homeland’s AIDS epidemic.

However, even after a decade, she still finds people who think that they can find simple cures for the killer disease.

“You have huge HIV numbers and nobody is educated on how you get HIV,” Contactmusic quoted her as saying.

“Many think if they rape a child or virgin they will will be cured of the disease… It’s a problem where education and people are being naive, cultures that are very superstitious,” she added. (ANI)

Charlize Theron wants to have five kids

London, August 15 (ANI): Actress Charlize Theron has said that she wants to have a huge family with boyfriend Stuart Townsend.

The Oscar-winner revealed that she was keeping her fingers crossed to become a mum to five boys.

“I just know I’m going to have five boys,” The Sun quoted her as telling Vogue magazine.

Speaking about her Irish actor-beau, the “Monster” and “Hancock” star added: “We’ve been together for almost nine years, so by now we’ve kind of realised that we’re going to take this journey together.”

The couple has pledged not to tie the knot until gay marriage is legalised. (ANI)

When Will Smith punched Charlize Theron in the face

New Delhi, May 13 (ANI): Charlize Theron was punched in the face by Will smith the very first time they worked together.

The duo starred together in 2000′s ‘The Legend of Bagger Vance’, and, at the same time, Will was preparing to portray legendary boxer Muhammad Ali.

And once, the ‘I am Legend’ actor got carried away showing off his fighting skills and punched the ‘Monster’ actress, right in her face, reports the China Daily.

“The first time I worked with him he punched me in the face. He was training for ‘Ali’. I encouraged him to show me a couple of moves. I was completely knocked out!” said Theron.

And the 33-year-old actress, who teamed up with the 40-year-old star again for superhero movie ‘Hancock’ last year, has claimed that she loves working with Will, despite falling victim to his powerful punch.

She added: “Seriously, though, I’d be happy to be punched out by Will anytime. He swore to me that it was an accident.” (ANI)

Charlize Theron lending support to gay marriage rally

Washington, May 07 (ANI): Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron is extending support to an upcoming rally for gay marriage in central California.

The actress has joined progressive grassroots organization Courage Campaign to encourage everyone to join her at Meet in the Middle for Equality rally, the event slated for Saturday after the California Supreme Court announces its decision on upholding or overturning the anti-gay marriage measure, Prop. 8.

“We know the people whose lives are on the line-those who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender-will be there,” E! Online quoted Theron as stating in a letter released by Courage Campaign.

“But we need everyone there. Especially straight people.

“While we don’t know when the Supreme Court will rule exactly, we know it will be within the next four weeks.

“Californians need to be prepared to commit right now to go to Fresno on the Saturday after the decision is announced, no matter what that decision may be.

“The battle for equality has to be fought in Middle America-in places like Fresno, California-not just in gay-friendly cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles.

“California’s Central Valley population is far more reflective of national attitudes towards LGBT equality-and until we engage the communities of Middle America, we will not achieve full equality in California,” she added. (ANI)

The auction features celebrity memorabilia that will benefit the Prince’s Trust and other charities.

The other half will go to the Prince’s Trust, which helps young people develop confidence, motivation and skills to find work.

Other jewellery items include designs from Charlize Theron, Goldie Hawn and Miley Cyrus, while Sir Ben Kingsley has designed a pair of cuff-links. (ANI)

Charlize Theron wants to have kids, but is not in a hurry

New Delhi, Apr 7 (ANI): Hollywood actress Charlize Theron has revealed that she is keen to have kids of her own with lover Stuart Townsend, but is in no hurry to get pregnant.

The ‘That Thing You Do’ actress says that though she has always wanted to become a mom one day, she just can’t tell it right now when that day would come, reports the China Daily.

“I’ve always known that I wanted to be a mom. I love children. I’ve always loved children. But I’m not like, ‘Oh my god, I really must have kids right now.’ I’ve never felt this pressing urge that some biological clock is ticking. We both want to be parents one day, but I’ve no idea when that will be,” Charlize said.

Theron also says that she is grateful to have found a loving partner like Stuart, who has added meaning to her life.

“Since I’ve been with Stuart, my vulnerability has become something I’m more comfortable with. I think there’s a part of me that is very much a survivor. I don’t know if it was in my genes, I don’t know what it is. But I guess being young and starting out in a sense of, ‘I’m not going to be a wallflower, and I’m not going to be messed with.’ That was the only way I knew how to survive at that time. But all that has changed since I’ve been with Stuart. I don’t feel like I’m in survival mode any more. I feel like it’s OK, I can breathe, so I’m very grateful to him,” Charlize told Marie Claire magazine. (ANI)

‘Booby’ Charlize Theron to ‘burn’ screen in ‘The Burning Plain’!

London, April 7 (ANI): Charlize Theron’s fans will get to see her a lot more onscreen, all thanks to a new film ‘The Burning Plain’.

In the flick, the actress has shown off her twin assets while dressed in a bathrobe and wet hair.

The film is the directorial debut of Guillermo Arrigadrama and also stars actor Kim Basinger, reports the Sun.

This is, however, not the first time the Oscar-winning actress has peeled off onscreen.

The ‘Hancock’ actress has previously stripped off for roles in ‘The Devil’s Advocate’ and ‘Head in the Clouds’ in which she played the lover of Spanish actress Penelope Cruz. (ANI)

Theron finds stripping easier than portraying ‘raw emotion’ onscreen

New Delhi, March 14 (ANI): Charlize Theron finds it easier to drop her clothes than portray ‘a raw emotion’ on screen.

“‘The Burning Plain’” star insisted that conveying emotions during a scene could end up being more challenging than the mere act of peeling layers, reports China Daily.

She said: “Being naked is one of those things I think people think of in an isolated, compartmentalised way, but sometimes it’s harder to do a scene where you have to bear a raw emotion of pain or vulnerability.

“That kind of nakedness is sometimes much harder than taking your clothes off.”

The Oscar-winning actress further added she would not mind putting on a director hat since she loved the totality of the filming experience.

She said: “If you’ asked me ten years ago if I would produce, I probably would have said, ‘You’re crazy.’ But it’s become one of those things that the older I’ve gotten and the more I’ve done this, the more I realise I love film making.

“It’s not the idea of playing a role and showing up and just acting and doing my thing, it’s the collaborative aspect of it that I really love.” (ANI)

‘Variety is Charlize Theron’s spice of life’

London, Mar 13 (ANI): Charlize Theron has revealed that she loves playing different roles.

The Oscar-winning actress has crammed some remarkably varied roles into her career, from ‘The Devil’s Advocate’, to ‘Monster’, to ‘Hancock’, to ‘The Italian Job’ to ‘North Country’.

And Theron insists that for her, variety is certainly the spice of life.

“I love doing what I do because I love movies,” Sky News quoted her, as saying.

“For me it’s not one of those things where I feel I have to do that because of some hidden agenda, it’s just because I purely love all different kinds of genres, and there is something refreshing about not doing the same thing back to back,” she added. (ANI)

Mithali Raj jumps to second spot after stellar World Cup performance

Dubai, Mar 13 (ANI): Indian opener Mithali Raj, who scored 59 against England and 75 not out against Sri Lanka, has swapped places with Lisa Sthalekar of Australia who has slipped to third place after some disappointing performances with the bat by her high standards.

England duo of Claire Taylor and Isa Guha, and Lisa Sthalekar of Australia, have retained top spots in the ICC Women’s ODI Player Rankings after the completion of group stage in the Women’s World Cup.
Taylor, the 33-year-old from Buckinghamshire, had started the tournament on 804 points and following knocks of 101 against Sri Lanka and 69 not out against India, she has widened the gap from her closest rival as she now sits comfortably on a career-best 825 points.

In women’s ranking terms, 800 points marks out a player as truly outstanding. Taylor heads into the Super Six stage of the tournament leading second-placed Mithali Raj of India by 56 points.
Australia’s Shelley Nitschke has achieved her career-best ranking after jumping three places to fifth position.

The 32-year-old South Australian is the second leading run-getter in the tournament behind Englishwoman Claire Taylor with 159 runs from three innings.
In the ODI Player Rankings for bowlers, Isa Guha of England leads the field by a distance. Guha had started the tournament on 719 points and has gained 17 valuable points.
Australia’s Lisa Sthalekar has climbed to second place after gaining two places but her team-mates Shelley Nitschke and Emma Sampson have slipped three and one places to fifth and sixth respectively.
England’s Holly Colvin, South Africa spinner Charlize van der Westhuizan and New Zealand’s Sophie Devine have achieved career-best rankings while Devine’s compatriot Aimee Mason has returned to the top 10. (ANI)

Theron left red-faced on TV as ex-dance teacher revealed her childhood antics

London, March 7 (ANI): Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron’s former dance teacher left her red-faced on a British chat show by talking about her embarrassing childhood habits over the phone.

It happened when broadcasters Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan were interviewing the ‘Monster’ star on March 5.

According to reports, the talk show was going smoothly until the programme’s producers made a surprise call to Theron’s former dance teacher Bernice Lloyd in her native South Africa.

“Charlize was a wonderful child. She was always so beautiful and so disciplined and always, always showed entrepreneurial skills,” the Daily Express quoted Bernice as saying.

“She always had these entrepreneurial skills and she used to buy sweets from the school tuck shop and sell them at night to hungry children for a profit. We thought it was wonderful – we, her teachers, thought that showed gumption (initiative),” she added.

Theron, who was mortified by the revelation, then exclaimed: “Oh my god, Bernice! This in insane! I don’t remember selling candy at a profit! I did start drinking at a very early age, so my memory is a bit dodgy.” (ANI)

Charlize Theron would love to star in comic role

Washington, March 5 (ANI): Charlize Theron would not think twice if offered a comedy role since the actress feels she needs to break away from the “doom and gloom” movie stereotype.

The ‘Monster’ star, who bagged on Oscar for her portrayal of serial killer Aileen Wuornos in the film, revealed she felt she was being typecast and would hence love to involve herself in more light hearted projects.

“I’m starting to figure that if there’s a woman in a ‘doom and gloom’ scenario, my name comes up… the next one has to be a comedy,” Contactmusic quoted her as saying.

The former model further unwrapped her ambitions of doing a musical, saying: “I’ve always let it be known that I would love to do a musical. I love going to ballet, it’s very cathartic.”

Theron was named the sexiest woman alive by fashion bible Esquire last year.

She was also in news for being appointed as the United Nations Messenger Of Peace for her contribution in ending violence against women. (ANI)

Kate Winslet denies ‘nude’ Playboy offer

Washington, Feb 25 (ANI): Oscar winner Kate Winslet has laughed off Hugh Hefner’s offer to bare all for Playboy, insisting she isn’t sexy enough to grace the cover.

Magazine mogul Hefner had revealed he would love to have the ‘The Reader’ star join previous posers including Marilyn Monroe, Sharon Stone, Pamela Anderson and Charlize Theron.

However, the 33-year-old actress has denied the offer to grace the men’s magazine’s cover.

“This is not a proposal that would interest her,” Contactmusic quoted her spokesperson as saying.

And when website TMZ.com told the actress of Hefner’s offer, she replied: “I have no idea what you’re talking about. I don’t believe that for one second!” she said. (ANI)

Hefner wants ‘nude’ Winslet for Playboy

London, February 24 (ANI): 2009 is surely turning into an eventful year for Kate Winslet, for after winning an Oscar, two Golden Globes and a Bafta, the actress has been offered a spot on the Playboy cover.

Magazine mogul Hugh Hefner revealed he would love to have the ‘Titanic’ star join previous posers including Marilyn Monroe, Sharon Stone, Pamela Anderson and Charlize Theron.

“There’s no question we would be interested in Kate,” the Sun quoted him as saying.

“It’s a competitive market, more than it used to be, so she would be a most welcome addition in our pages,” he added.

Kate, who has in the past posed nude in many of her movies, including ‘The Reader’, however, had previously sworn not to repeat her clothes-dropping act in future following fears of being typecast.

She had said: “I don’t want to be known as that actress who gets her kit off.” (ANI)

Audrey Hepburn named Ultimate Screen Beauty

London, Feb 11 (ANI): Audrey Hepburn has pipped Angelina Jolie to land the honour of the ultimate screen beauty in a new survey.

The star of Breakfast At Tiffany’s topped the survey of Hollywood actresses through the ages, while Angelina Jolie, Keira Knightley and Halle Berry followed her in the second, third and fourth positions.

The poll of nearly 2,000 film fans put Hepburn in first place, citing her perfect bone structure and almond eyes. Jolie was second, although she was a favourite with younger voters, and Kelly was third, reports the Telegraph.

The survey was commissioned by Sky+ HD.

Nicola Moulton, beauty and health director of Vogue, said: “A great cinematic beauty by definition has to look amazing in motion, not just in pictures.

“Audrey Hepburn is clearly a timeless beauty explaining why she is the nation’s choice, though a personal favourite of mine has always been Vivien Leigh – she was not only breathtakingly beautiful but had an astonishingly expressive face.

“Unlike many actresses her expressions never run counter to her beauty, which seems an essential point of her being rather than just a quirk of genetics.”
