Madonna casts James D”arcy as King Edward VIII for upcoming flick

London, June 4 (ANI): Queen of Pop Madonna has cast actor James D”arcy as King Edward VIII in her upcoming royal biopic W.E.

The singer is set to direct the film, based on the story of the former monarch, who abdicated the throne after falling in love with American divorcee Wallis Simpson.

Actress Andrea Riseborough, best known for her TV portrayal of former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, will play the woman who rocked the royal family, while Aussie beauty Abbie Cornish will star as a modern wife who compares herself to Wallis.

And now, Madonna has picked D”Arcy to take on the role of King Edward.

“We”ve found the right cast for this picture. The addition of James is wonderful as he”s got such charisma and possesses a regal quality that he can capture. There was a real chemistry between him and Andrea,” the Daily Express quoted producer Colin Vaines as saying. (ANI)

De La Hoya insists Brit boxer Khan can join him in Hall of Fame

London, May 11 (ANI): Boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya has said that British boxer Amir Khan is so good that he reminds him of a special boxer himself.

De La Hoya, who is Khan’s promoter in America, stages the British boxer’s second defence of his WBA world light-welterweight title against Paulie Malignaggi at the Theatre in Madison Square Garden on Saturday night.

De La Hoya won Olympic gold in 1992 followed by 10 world titles in six different weight classes, defeating 17 world champions, The Sun reports.

Khan took silver at the Athens Olympics and will be making only the second defence of his title. But De La Hoya insists the kid from Bolton can join him in the Hall of Fame.

“When I look into Amir’s eyes I can see something of myself in there. We were around the same age when we won our Olympic medals. When I saw Amir fight in Athens, I saw everything that a good fighter is supposed to have – talent of course, the speed, the power and especially the passion,” De La Hoya said.

“Those are the attributes that helped me to become who I am in the sport of boxing. It really is a privilege for me to guide Amir Khan”s career into something special for the future.

“Not too many fighters can win multiple championships in multiple divisions. Amir Khan has the ability to become a super-champion, a legend. And that”s what really attracted me to him. He has that it factor. Talent, passion, the looks and the charisma,” De La Hoya added. (ANI)

‘Pretty’ dental hygienist named as Berlusconi party’s regional councillor

London, Mar 31 (ANI): Former TV showgirl Nicole Minetti, the oral hygienist who put the smile back on Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi”s face after he was assaulted in Milan last year, has been picked as a regional councillor for his party.

The 25-year-old was named as one of eight candidates on a “closed list” last month for the Lombardy region – despite having no political experience, reports The Daily Express.

It was presented by Berlusconi’s People of Freedom Party.

Minetti’s region includes Milan, the city where Berlusconi was hit in the mouth in December by a statue thrown at him during a political rally.

She had remained silent in the run-up to the polls, only speaking out when pictures of her wearing a gold bikini emerged in newspapers in Italy.

She said: “I do wish people would stop printing pictures of me when I was on TV. I was just doing some extra work to pay my way through university. I am ready. I have done my homework and I feel that I am qualified and up to the job.”

Minetti added: “I signed up to the People of Freedom Party about a year ago. I began to have a sympathy for them because I was attracted by Berlusconi’s charisma. I do admire him.” (ANI)

Union Cabinet condoles YSR’s death, says country has lost a statesman

New Delhi, Sep 3 (ANI): The Union Cabinet on Thursday passed a resolution condoling the death of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy and announced that he would be given a state funeral on Friday.

In its resolution the Cabinet said: Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy was a tall leader of contemporary India who, through his farsightedness and capable administration, brought tremendous development to the State of Andhra Pradesh.

It further said that Dr. Reddy was at the peak of his political career and popularity when the hand of fate intervened.

“In his death, the country has lost an eminent political leader, a farsighted statesman, an astute administrator, a compassionate human being and, above all, a friend of the poor and the downtrodden,” the Cabinet resolution said.

Recalling the popular schemes of the Reddy Government the Union Cabinet resolution said ” He implemented many revolutionary programmes such as Jalayagnam and Indiramma Illu which gave a new thrust to the women’s Self-Help-Group movement and made Andhra Pradesh the leading state in enrolment and empowerment of women.”

“He recognised the need to expand irrigation facilities and generate more power as to make the irrigation and power as two driving forces of his administration and he delivered in full measure on his promises,” it further added.

“Reddy, a qualified medical doctor, was a natural reformer and moderniser, nevertheless, he always kept the interests of the poor at the centre of his policies and his government. He was able to successfully blend the necessity of reforms and the imperatives of social justice,” it said.

Reddy’s policies and programmes endeared him to the people of Andhra Pradesh. He had admirers beyond the boundaries of his State and his administrative acumen and charisma were widely acknowledged, the cabinet resolution concluded. (ANI)

Beatles come alive – in video game avatar

London, Sept 2 (ANI): The Beatles are back with a bang. The Fab Four will now be seen in a video game titled The Beatles: Rock Band.

John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr have been digitally recreated in the game, reports The Daily Star.

The game is scheduled to be out on Wii, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 on September 9.

Gaming experts believe the charisma of the Beatles could help revive the fortunes of the sagging computer game industry.

A digitally remastered version of the legendary band will also be re-released on the same day. (ANI)

“This is Man U’s Thierry Henry moment,” says Wenger

London, Aug 29(ANI): Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said that in the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo, Manchester United are facing the same trauma as Arsenal did, when Thierry Henry left the club in 2007.

“Thierry was, in the end, a personality that had a big weight in the team. Also no one could refuse to give him the ball so when he left our play sometimes became a bit more diversified,” The Sun quoted Wenger, as saying.

“United have some big personalities in the team. But, Ronaldo won Player of the Year and European Player of the Year so suddenly they have a lack of charisma around them and everybody will look at their team differently. Yes, you could say this is their Thierry Henry moment,” he added.

Wenger reckons that the Red Devils are in a weak situation and will take time to adjust with Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov after Ronaldo left the club following a world record 80 million pound switch to Real Madrid in the summer.

“Ronaldo didn’t look as convincing as the year before. Though when you look at the numbers of games he played and the number of goals he scored he was still as efficient as before,” Wenger said.

“I believe they will miss him. When a player becomes too strong in a team, others are a little bit isolated or forgotten. So, when he disappears many of the players turn up because of the way the game goes through different players,” he added. (ANI)

Jacko bleached skin, rebuilt face to avoid looking like his ‘bullying’ dad

London, July 2 (ANI): Late King of Pop Michael Jackson reportedly did not want to look like his “bullying” dad, and that is why he bleached his skin and butchered his face with surgery.

Jackson’s pal John Randy Taraborrelli, a journalist who has known him for 40 years, has revealed that he was petrified he would grow into an identical version of Joe.

Taraborrelli’s statement has come at a time when, amid speculation over whether Jacko really fathered his three children, rumours have started to circulate that the star’s hatred of his violent dad stopped him from reproducing, as he feared they would look like their grandfather.

Taraborrelli, 53, said that Jackson was traumatised by regular beatings from his dad, now 79.

“His motive for cosmetic surgery was not, as many surmised, too look more like his idol Diana Ross,” the Daily Star quoted him as saying.

“It was so that he would look less like his father – the man who had so mistreated him and whose strong, broad-nosed face he saw looking back at him from the mirror,” he added.

As Joe managed his kids to success as The Jackson 5, he would punish anyone fluffing up in rehearsals for big shows.

Since Michael led the group, he inevitably took most of the flak.

“The violence worsened as the boys got older and the music business became their life,” Taraborrelli said.

“When he was late for one rehearsal, Joseph came up from behind and shoved him. Michael fell and was badly bruised.

“Michael was spirited enough to fight back, once he hurled a shoe at his father but Joseph screamed: ‘Boy, you just signed your own death warrant.’

“He then held Michael upside down by one leg and pummelled him over and over,” he added.

However, said the journalist, Jackon’s obsession with surgery ruined his looks.

Taraborrelli said: “His appearance was becoming increasingly bizarre. He had also begun using a skin-bleaching cream, which he bought by the crate. Gone was the brown-skinned, broad-nosed youth with an Afro whose natural charisma charmed an audience.”

The journalist added: “In his place was a fragile, doll-like man it was impossible not to stare at in disbelief. He had achieved his goal of transforming himself, but at a barely imaginable price. In the public’s eyes, all this made him not only a freak but a joke.” (ANI)

Carla Bruni is Woody Allen’s latest ‘muse’

London, June 19 (ANI): Filmmaker Woody Allen says he would love to cast French first lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy in one of his films – insisting she has the charisma for the job.

The 73-year-old director, who’s in Paris for promoting his new film ‘Whatever Works’, was asked what strong personality he would most like to see star in one of his movies – to which he replied “Without question, Carla Bruni!”

Meanwhile, Allen is expected to visit the Elysee presidential palace during his stay to meet with President Nicolas Sarkozy and his wife, reports The Telegraph.

Carla’s sister Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi is herself a well-known actress and director whose first autobiographical feature depicts her sister – played by Chiara Mastroianni – as a guitar-strumming seductress with whom she is barely on speaking terms.

Allen will start shooting his next film in London on July 13 including Anthony Hopkins, Antonio Banderas, Naomi Watts, Josh Brolin, Freido Pinto and the young British actress Lucy Punch. (ANI)

Belarus leader Lukashenko fed up with Eurovision “rubbish”

Belarus leader Lukashenko fed up with Eurovision Minsk – Belarusian President Aleksander Lukashenko on Friday said he was “fed up” with his country’s “rubbish” efforts in the Eurovision song contest, the Belapan news agency reported.

“I am really fed up – the hot air, the brawls, and all that,” the authoritarian leader complained after singer Petr Efimov’s rock-and- roll act failed to reach the Eurovision final for Belarus.

This year’s contest in Moscow was won by Norwegian singer Alexander Rybak on May 16.

Producers for the country’s entry “get outdated rubbish, make a big noise about it, and maybe they also make some money on the side,” Lukashenko said.

Lukashenko’s remarks came after Efimov accused his government- appointed producers of failing to support his act by economizing on stage props and musical back-up.

The annual song competition historically is one of the most- watched programmes on Belarusian television, as little other fresh European programming is permitted on the country’s state-controlled airwaves.

Belarus will “totally overhaul” its 2010 Eurovision preparation plans, and the old management team “will be fully replaced,” Lukashenko said.

Efimov last week called for Lukashenko’s investigation into Belarus’ preparations for the Eurovision contest, saying “I would much like that someone would ask Aleksander Lukashenko the questions, where did the money go for the Belarusian act, and what did the Belarusian delegation do during the competition?”

Aleksander Martynenko, head of the Belarusian producer team, said shortly after Efimov’s song fell from the competition the failure was down to the singer’s “lack of charisma.” (dpa)

Today’s dating practices ‘lead to Modern Female Dating Anxiety’

Melbourne, Apr 26 (ANI): With symptoms like sweaty palms, shallow breathing and obsessive behaviour, a thoroughly modern epidemic – Modern Female Dating Anxiety (MFDA) – has developed and it is by-product of technological communication and casual dating practises, say two leading experts.

Ryan Cassady, a life coach, and his wife Jessica, a clinical psychologist and sex therapist, coined the phrase MFDA in their new book, Stop Wondering if You’ll Ever Meet Him.

“There actually are components of mental illness that we see coming into the picture of MFDA (and) we know that these are people who are mentally healthy,” News.com.au quoted Jessica, as saying.

According to the couple, the condition most commonly affects self-assured women who lose their cool on the dating circuit.

“They have a sense of confidence and security that somehow becomes absent in the dating situation,” Ryan said.

The evolution of “conveniences” like text messaging, social networking and email have created “this illusion of intimacy” that hasn’t been formed between people, Jessica added.

She said: “As technology has been brought into the equation people have gotten used to exploring connections in a very fast way. That sense of immediate gratification has confused a process that traditionally followed more of a courtship process. If you’re not hearing from someone straight away because they do have that ability to call you, (you) that something must be wrong.”

Women also aren’t coping well with loosening of formal courtship “codes”, a legacy of the sexual revolution of the 1960s.

“The formality of the dating process was kind of tossed out the window and as a result a very casual (method)… arose,” Ryan said.

“Hanging out and hooking up” replaced traditional courtship methods, he added.

To get over MFDA, the couple encourage sufferers to channel their “feminine mystique”, or charisma, learn some old-school dating practises and “let go” of their “type”. (ANI)

Congress, BJP candidates file nominations in Delhi

New Delhi/Bhatinda, Apr 14 (ANI): The Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates have filed nominations from East Delhi parliamentary constituency.

From Congress’ camp Sandeep Dikshit filed his nominations while BJP has fielded cricketer-turned politician Chetan Chauhan.

Dikshit, the Congress MP and son of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, is seeking re-election from the seat. He is banking heavily on the development work done by the UPA Government-led by his party.

“The issue of polls will be development. We will take all the development work of the UPA to the people,” Dikshit said.

On the other hand, Chauhan after filing his nominations said that Dikshit not being a seasoned politician had earlier won on the charisma of his mother.

“Sandeep is not a seasoned politician. He had won earlier because of his mother,” said Chauhan.

The seven parliamentary constituencies in Delhi will go to the polls on May.

Meanwhile, Bibi Harsimrat Kaur Badal, wife of Sukhbir Singh Badal, Punjab Deputy Chief, filed her nominations from Bhatinda parliamentary constituency of the state.

The alliance of the BJP and the Shiromani Akali Dal is pitted against the Congress party in Punjab.

State Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal said that election should be fought on political planes and not to settle personal scores.

Bhatinda will go to polls on May 7, while the remaining nine of the total 13 seats will vote on May 13. (ANI)

Vandereycken ousted as Belgium coach

Brussels – Rene Vandereycken was sacked on Tuesday night as Belgium national team coach over a poor World Cup qualifiying campaign with almost no hope of making the 2010 finals.

Vandereycken’s time was over after begium lost twice to Bosnia-Herzegovina, on March 28 and April 1, to rank fourth in their group, 11 points behind runaway leaders Spain. Only the top team qualifies directly for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

“We are disappointed in the results … (and) particularly disillusioned by the two matches against Bosnia-Herzegovina,” said Belgian football boss Francois De Keersmaecker.

The former star player Vandereycken took the coaching job in January 2006 on a contract until 2010. He failed to lead to the team to Euro 2008 and his overall record of 10 wins, seven draws and 13 defeats was not impressive either.

Current Olympique Marseille coach Eric Gerets was on Wednesday named a potential new man for the job by news reports. Marc Wilmots and Zenit St Petersburg’s Dutch coach Dick Advocaat were also mentioned.

De Keersmaecker said that his federation will not rush to a decision on the vacant job, saying “we will look for a coach with charisma to be the leader of our young squad.”(dpa)

Pussycat girlfriend is Hamilton’s only charisma, says Lauda

London, Feb. 20 (ANI): Former motor racing champion Niki Lauda has said the only interesting thing about Lewis Hamilton is his Pussycat Dolls girlfriend.

The three-times F1 World Champ title winner blasted the British driver, as “boring”, claiming modern drivers have “no idea”.

The 59-year-old, world title winner of 1975, 1977 and 1984, said:

“The only kind of charisma someone like Lewis Hamilton has is his girl Nicole Scherzinger.”

“When I was racing, everyone was ready to drive over someone else to win. Death was always an option. Today’s drivers have no idea,” the Daily Star quoted Lauda, as saying.

However, the Current F1 champ Hamilton himself has admitted that he is “boring” on a night out.

The 24-year-old on course to become Britain’s first sports billionaire said recently: “I’m a boring bar person because if I am out I will only have a Coke or orange juice.”

Lauda, who was fighting for life after a racing crash in 1976, is well known for his criticism about current Formula 1 drivers.

Earlier, Lauda had said that Lewis Hamilton was robbed of victory in the Belgian Grand Prix, and described the penalty as “the worst judgment in the history of F1″.

He had said the sport was close to losing its integrity after Hamilton had been hit with a retrospective 25-second drive-through penalty for ‘cutting a corner and gaining an advantage’.

“So I do not understand this decision, and it’s really bad for the sport because people watching will not watch any more because of this stupid decision,” Lauda said. (ANI)
