Washington, Feb 8 (ANI): Mothers in chaotic households are likely to be obese, according to a new study.
The researchers found that although mothers’ weight increases along with household instability, their young children’s weight does not.
Thirty-eight percent of mothers in low-instability households were obese, while nearly 48 percent in high-instability households were obese.
The researchers also looked at parental stress (for instance, whether mothers felt alone or trapped by their responsibilities), financial instability and ability to keep food on the table.
The average age of the mothers was 28, and 40 percent of children did not have a father in the house.
“My interest is to look at the intersection between the home environment and the neighborhood environment and see how those intersections influence obesity,” said lead author Earle Chambers, Ph.D. as saying.
Access to healthy places to eat and exercise space can make a difference, he added.
The study appears in the Journal of Health Care for the Poor and Underserved. (ANI)

British Airways staff slam ‘smelly and annoying’ passengers on Facebook
The staff’s hatred for travellers manifests itself in the comments on the Facebook page, which suggest that passengers put boarding passes in their mouths before handing them over at the departure gate.
While one staff member has slammed smelly passengers and celebrity fliers, another has criticised Americans.
“They ask which gate with their stupid American accent – aaargggh!! Its soooo annoying!!!!” the Independent quoted an employee called “Deepa” as posting on the social networking site.
The entries on the web page also condemned the chaotic opening of Heathrow”s Terminal 5 as a disaster.
The postings have come to light just two weeks after 13 Virgin Atlantic staff were sacked after describing their passengers as “Chavs” on their Facebook page.
BA has launched an investigation into the matter, though a spokesman refused to discuss whether disciplinary action would be taken.
He said: “We will be talking to the individuals concerned about their disappointing and unwise comments, which are totally unrepresentative of the vast number of hard working ground staff we employ at Gatwick.” (ANI)
