Chaotic households likely to make mums fat

Washington, Feb 8 (ANI): Mothers in chaotic households are likely to be obese, according to a new study.

The researchers found that although mothers’ weight increases along with household instability, their young children’s weight does not.

Thirty-eight percent of mothers in low-instability households were obese, while nearly 48 percent in high-instability households were obese.

The researchers also looked at parental stress (for instance, whether mothers felt alone or trapped by their responsibilities), financial instability and ability to keep food on the table.

The average age of the mothers was 28, and 40 percent of children did not have a father in the house.

“My interest is to look at the intersection between the home environment and the neighborhood environment and see how those intersections influence obesity,” said lead author Earle Chambers, Ph.D. as saying.

Access to healthy places to eat and exercise space can make a difference, he added.

The study appears in the Journal of Health Care for the Poor and Underserved. (ANI)

Lufti to make tell-all documentary about Spears’ meltdown

Washington, Feb 5 (ANI): Britney Spears’ infamous ex-manager Sam Lutfi is set to make a tell-all documentary detailing the singer’s highly-publicised meltdown, according to reports.

It is believed that Lutfi is planning out details with U.S. TV network UPN to make the explosive programme.

UPN also broadcasts Spears’ 2005 reality series ‘Britney and Kevin: Chaotic’.

Spears’ parents, Jamie and Lynne, publicly blamed Lutfi for the series of emotional breakdowns that had led Britney to lose custody of her two sons to ex-husband Kevin Federline in 2007.

But, Lutfi, 34, who was the singer’s manager during her 2007 meltdown, has filed a defamation lawsuit against Spears and her parents on February 4.

He has alleged that their claims that he drugged the star were untrue and had caused him “humiliation” and “distress”.

And now, it seems he is hoping to seek revenge on the Spears family by telling his side of the story to the world.

“Sam has realised that a TV show would get him a large chunk of money and he’s get extra money on the back of it in magazines and newspaper interviews,” Contactmusic quoted a source as telling Britain’s Daily Star.

The source added: “This is his opportunity for him to get his lucrative revenge. To be a big earner, this documentary will need to be full of sensational and shocking revelations.” (ANI)

Ground staff resume strike at Budapest airport

Ground staff resume strike at Budapest airport Budapest  – One of three terminals at Budapest’s Ferihegy International Airport was closed from 4 pm Monday as ground staff resumed a strike over pay and conditions.

In a repeat of the first days of industrial action six weeks earlier, crowds of hundreds of confused passengers amassed in the check-in area after security gates were closed.

Ground staff began their strike over terms and conditions on December 10.

On December 22, the unions suspended the strike for the holidays and returned to the negotiating table.

“Management has made no serious attempt in the past few weeks to solve the industrial dispute,” the two unions behind the strike said in a statement.

The airport operator Budapest Airport (BA) promptly announced that passengers should expect delays of a few hours, but sought to assure them that no cancellations would be necessary.

In the early evening, hundreds of confused travellers began to fill the check in area after the security gates closed, but checking restarted after about an hour.

As in the two-week strike in the run up to Christmas, passengers were slowed by bottlenecks at the few open security gates in just one of the airport’s three terminals.

Budapest Airport spokesman Domokos Szollar announced the closure of terminal 1 shortly after talks with union leaders broke down on Monday afternoon. All processing of passengers and aircraft was transferred to two other terminals.

“Aircraft are leaving from terminal 2B and ticketing is taking place at 2A,” said Szollar. He added that 164 of 243 ground staff scheduled to work remained at their posts despite the unions’ call for industrial action.

In their strike, ground staff are demanding that Budapest Airport (BA), a subsidiary of the German firm Hochtief, end a restructuring programme and extend an existing collective employment contract.

Other demands included backdated overtime payments and a pledge from management that there will be no job cuts before 2010 and no further outsourcing.

Although dozens of flights were cancelled in the chaotic first few days of the December strike, management managed to restore a full schedule.

All available staff were concentrated at one terminal and, in a controversial move, temporary security staff were drafted in from Greece.

“Despite the strike restarting on Monday, Budapest Airport is ready to resume negotiations at 10 am on Tuesday,” said Szollar. (dpa)

Kate Hudson planning to ‘elope’

New Delhi, Jan 8 (ANI): Actress Kate Hudson would prefer eloping to getting married in a “big production” like setting.

Although the ”Bride Wars” star, who is divorced from Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson, has not ruled out marrying again, she doesn’t want a huge wedding.

“Who knows if I will get married again? I wouldn”t rule it out though. But I would elope and then have a party,” she said.

Kate also said that very often weddings are like movie premieres as they are very chaotic, reports The China Daily.

“It gets so screwed up because you”re dealing with two families, you”re dealing with your parents – some parents try to stay out of it, but they always have to have their word. You”re in an awkward position. It”s like a movie premiere. It”s a big production,” she said.

The 29-year-old actress, who has previously been romantically linked to Owen Wilson and Lance Armstrong, is mother to a four-year-old son Ryder with Chris. (ANI)

British Airways staff slam ‘smelly and annoying’ passengers on Facebook

British Airways staff slam ‘smelly and annoying’ passengers on FacebookLondon, November 3: British Airways staff have launched a scathing attack on passengers, whom they have branded “smelly and annoying” on a Facebook page created by “London Gatwick Ground Staff”.

The staff’s hatred for travellers manifests itself in the comments on the Facebook page, which suggest that passengers put boarding passes in their mouths before handing them over at the departure gate.

While one staff member has slammed smelly passengers and celebrity fliers, another has criticised Americans.

“They ask which gate with their stupid American accent – aaargggh!! Its soooo annoying!!!!” the Independent quoted an employee called “Deepa” as posting on the social networking site.

The entries on the web page also condemned the chaotic opening of Heathrow”s Terminal 5 as a disaster.

The postings have come to light just two weeks after 13 Virgin Atlantic staff were sacked after describing their passengers as “Chavs” on their Facebook page.

BA has launched an investigation into the matter, though a spokesman refused to discuss whether disciplinary action would be taken.

He said: “We will be talking to the individuals concerned about their disappointing and unwise comments, which are totally unrepresentative of the vast number of hard working ground staff we employ at Gatwick.” (ANI)
