Cricket umpire ‘headbutts’ player in England over ‘disputed’ decision!

London, May 26(ANI): A cricket match between Oswestry CC and Whitchurch CC in England descended into chaos when an umpire allegedly headbutted a player during an argument.

According to reports, the umpire gave a batsman “not out” and had a heated row with a fielder, who was convinced that the official had made a mistake.

Later, things turned ugly as players from both the sides piled into each other.

“I couldn’t believe what was going on. I have never seen anything like that on a cricket pitch in my life,” The Mirror quoted one of the players, as saying.

The club game reportedly had no neutral umpires so was being officiated by players from the batting side.

The situation only got under control only when local police intervened to part the warring teams.

The game was abandoned. (ANI)

Thai govt extends overnight curfew for seven days

The Thai authorities have extended a curfew in Bangkok and 24 provinces for seven days because of concern about possible unrest, an army spokesman said on Monday.

“We have information that there are groups and individuals who still want to create chaos in some areas,” Sansern Kaewkamnerd told a news conference.

The curfew, from midnight to 4 a.m., must be formally approved by the cabinet at its weekly meeting on Tuesday, he added.

The curfew came into effect on May 19 after riots and arson broke out across Bangkok following an army crackdown to disperse anti-government protesters occupying a commercial district in the capital. (Reporting by Ambika Ahuja; Writing by Martin Petty; Editing by Alan Raybould)

Michael Jordan ‘advised Tiger Woods to control himself’

Melbourne, May 16 (ANI): Basketball star Michael Jordan asked Tiger Woods to control his wild behaviour, according to a new book.

Sports writer Robert Lusetich’s new book ‘Unplayable’ talks how the NBA star advised the golfer, whose private life got ruined after the exposure of his multiple affairs, to keep himself under control.

Back in 2008, Jordan apparently read a text message from Woods and, according to a source who was there, shook his head and said Woods had grown “out of control”.

The tome further reveals that Woods remained poised on the Kingston Heath Golf course in Australia despite the chaos off it and that Jordan tried to talk Woods into being more discreet, but he did not listen, reports News.com.au.

Lusetich also claims in the text that Woods tried to pay hush money to stop his affair with Rachel Uchitel being exposed. (ANI)

Ferrari needs ` four or five” podiums to challenge for F One title: Alonso

London, May 12 (ANI): Racing champ Fernando Alonso has said Ferrari must crack down on chaos and score “four or five” podiums on the trot if he is to challenge for the world championship.

The Sun quoted the double world champ, 28, as saying: “So far we have had two engine problems, one gearbox problem, one jumped start, some chaotic races. But still we are only three points behind the leader, so we are happy.”

“It”s still very early in the championship, but better to be in the first three or four positions than eighth or ninth. From now we need four or five podiums in a row. We cannot have one podium and then another three races with mistakes if we are to win the championship,” he added.

Alonso said: “We were a super Ferrari team over that weekend with no mistakes at all.” (ANI)

Working mom Naomi Watts feels like a failure

London, May 7 (ANI): Juggling career with two kids- Samuel and Sasha- is making actress Naomi Watts feel like a failure.

The King Kong recently shot new drama ‘Mother and Child’ after returning to work in December 2008, when she gave birth to her second child, Samuel.

“Every single day, I second-guess myself as a mother. I chose to be a mum. It”s something I”ve always wanted, but I feel torn between two worlds.

“I am not reaching the same depths and heights that I used to reach in movies because I”m a parent of two small children, who desperately need me. It”s frustrating because I feel like I”m failing a bit on both ends,” The Daily Express quoted her as telling BlackBook magazine.

Her worries, however, haven’t discouraged her from thinking of extending her family in future, even if it means adopting a child.

She says, “I would love to have an endless brood of children. I grew up in chaos. I feel comfortable in chaos.

“Whether or not I”ll ever adopt remains to be seen, but I totally believe in adoption.” (ANI)

Romanian ‘shoe architect’ makes heels to help women grow 12 inches!

London, May 7 (ANI): A Romanian “shoe architect” has created towering heels that promise to help increase the wearer’s height by 12 inches.

Mihai Albu’s shoes are twice the height of the highest heels available, and the handcrafted sandals do not come cheap, selling for up to 1,200 euros, which is more than twice the average monthly salary in Romania.

“Heels have an advantage because (many women) don’t have long legs,” the Telegraph quoted him as saying.

“They reposition the waist,” he stated.

Albu, a former architect, who draws inspiration from Romanian sculptor Constantin Brancusi and Spanish architect Antonio Gaudi, blends math, architecture and art in his creations.

He uses French leather and encrusts the shoes with jewels, feathers and mirrors.

But the designer believes his shoes are worth the high price, and he says he has received dozens of orders for the new sandals from Romania’s well heeled.

“I am creating a constructed chaos,” he said, describing his extravagant sandals in architectural terms.

In addition to their breathtaking height, his footwear features special effects and its appearance varies, depending on the angle.

One sandal featured an emerald heel topped by a skull mask out of which bursts a shock of peacock feathers, while another featured three heels, two of which are decorative.

There are boots that resemble a glass vase and unicorn-like boots with a heel in front, and his latest creation, the 12.2-inch heel sandal, is a construction of three black wedge sandals. (ANI)

Volcanic ash chaos turns romantic for Chace Crawford

London, April 24 (ANI): The Icelandic volcanic ash cloud, that left passengers stranded at European airports, brought romance for actor Chace Crawford – the Gossip Girl star was seen enjoying a date in London, it has emerged.

Crawford, 24, who flew into London early last week for the promotion of his new flick Twelve, found himself stuck in the UK after flights across northern Europe were cancelled due to the heavy ash cloud floating in the skies.

He was reportedly seen enjoying an evening with the blonde, and was snapped leaving a London night spot with his arm around her waist.

“Chace was trapped in London, so he spent his time with Tessa. They were introduced by a friend and really hit it off. He had to return to the U.S. for work, but he hopes he”ll see her again,” the Daily Express quoted a source as telling the New York Post. (ANI)

Alice alleged attack ‘like PNG’: Opposition

The Territory Opposition says the alleged attack on a driver who hit a child in Alice Springs this week was the sort of thing that could be expected in places like Papua New Guinea.

Police say the 32-year-old man was driving his ute in suburban Alice Springs when a three year old boy ran onto the road.

Police say the ute hit the toddler and when the man got out to try and help he was set upon by a group of people.

It is alleged they bashed him and then stole his vehicle.

Watch Commander Darrell Kerr said the driver suffered facial, leg and arm injuries and the boy was treated for grazes to the legs.

Some of men were arrested when they returned to the scene in the stolen vehicle.

Police have charged three men with aggravated assault over the alleged bashing.

Two of the men, including the 25-year-old father of the toddler, have been granted bail.

The third man, aged 36, has also been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and has been remanded in custody.

Opposition Leader, Terry Mills says it sends a dangerous message to drivers who might otherwise do the right thing.

“I don’t want to see that in the Northern Territory,” Mr Mills said.

“I don’t want to see that kind of descent into chaos.

“Therefore there must be a strong and very clear message that there’s those who assault someone who stopped need to be dealt with.”

Counting the cost from the storm

The damage bill from last week’s storm has spiralled to more than $650 million after nearly 90,000 claims were made to insurance companies.

The hail storm caused chaos when it hit Perth and the South West.

Roads were flooded, about 200,000 homes were blacked out and buildings and cars were damaged.

The initial cost of the storm was $100 million but the Insurance Council of Australia says that figure has risen to $650 million.

The Council says insurance companies have received 89,000 claims.

The revised estimate comes a day after the State Government announced changes to the way hail-damaged cars are classified by insurers.

Under the temporary changes, people can continue driving their car once it has been written off if the damage is deemed cosmetic.

Malay Indians losing their strength due to disunity

Kuala Lumpur, Mar 26 (ANI): The Indian community in Malaysia is more split now with the formation of many Indian-based political parties and is losing its strength.

The Malaysia Nanban quoted V. Ganabati Rao, one of the Hindraf members detained under the Internal Security Act, as saying that the community was losing its strength.

He said some irresponsible political leaders were more interested in spreading chaos in the community so that they would not be united.

The daily also reported that 20 rubber tappers in Batu Lintang Estate in Serdang, Kedah, were retrenched.

Witnesses saw two gunmen at Moran murder scene

A witness has placed two possible gunmen at the scene of Des Moran’s murder in Ascot Vale, in Melbourne’s west, last year.

Desmond ‘Tuppence’ Moran, 60, was gunned down in his favourite cafe last June.

A witness told the court she watched as two men backed out of the doorway of the cafe.

She said one was wearing a balaclava and both were dressed in black.

One of the men paused slightly in the doorway before yells of ‘run, run’ were heard and the men took off down the street.

The court also heard another witness describe how two gunmen walked casually away from the scene.

Rina Lauriola was on Union Road when Moran was shot.

She told the court she heard three bangs and turned to see bullet casings drop to the ground.

She then heard another three gun shots, before noticing a man walk calmly past her holding a gun.

She told the court he joined another man and they casually walked away as chaos erupted at the cafe.

Geoff Armour, 44, and 45-year-old Michael Farrugia are charged with Des Moran’s murder, along with Moran’s sister-in-law, Judy Moran, and 46-year-old Suzanne Kane.

The committal hearing in the Melbourne Magistrates Court continues.

Qantas customers will fly during BA strike

Qantas says its customers affected by a British Airways (BA) strike launched on Saturday will not be left stranded, with the company to arrange alternative flights.

Thousands of BA cabin crew began the three-day strike after last-ditch talks on a dispute over pay and conditions collapsed, leaving thousands of travellers facing chaos.

More than 1,000 flights are expected to be cancelled, followed by a potentially more damaging second walkout for four days from March 27 ahead of the busy Easter holiday period.

Passengers facing disruption include those travelling between Australia and the United Kingdom.

Qantas said BA indicated it plans to operate its daily flights between London and Sydney via Bangkok.

But the airline’s daily London-Singapore journeys have been cut, affecting an unknown number of Qantas passengers booked on those connecting services.

Qantas said its priority was to ensure those people were accommodated on its own flights or offered other alternatives.

“We have contacted affected customers … (and) have a fare waiver in place that allows people travelling during the strike period to change their booking without penalty,” a Qantas spokeswoman said.

“We will continue to liaise with British Airways regarding its plans for the second phase of its planned strike action and closely monitor what else we can do to minimise potential impacts on our customers.”

Qantas said all of its services between Australia and the UK will operate as scheduled.

BA said emergency plans to handle the strike were working well.

It plans to fly more than 60 per cent of passengers this weekend – about 49,000 people a day – despite cancelling many of its scheduled flights.

“Our main aim this week has been to give customers as much information as early as possible so that they take up one of the options we have offered them,” a spokesman said.

Tree claims three on highway

A fallen tree caused chaos on the Pacific Highway this morning.

Police say a B-double truck was travelling north at around half past one, when it hit a gum tree which had fallen across the highway at Glenugie, south of Grafton.

A second B-double heading south then crashed into the same tree and the impact split the truck’s fuel tank, resulting in a diesel spill.

A car heading north also crashed into the tree.

Police say the driver of the north-bound truck suffered neck and back injuries and was taken to the Grafton Hospital.

The other two drivers escaped injury.
