NEW YORK (Billboard) – A second free Drake concert in New York has been canceled after security concerns were raised by the city’s police department.

The Toronto rapper, whose debut album recently opened at No. 1 on the U.S. pop chart, was in talks to perform in Central Park on July 16 as part of ABC’s “Good Morning America” summer concert series. According to the Daily News, the plans were scrapped after the NYPD told the city’s Parks Department to bolster its security efforts.

A spokesperson for ABC told the newspaper, “We were interested in having Drake perform, but he was never officially booked,” while a rep said that there was a “booking in place.” The cast of Green Day’s Broadway musical “American Idiot” will play “Good Morning America” on July 16 instead.

Drake’s first free New York show was scheduled to take place at South Street Seaport on June 15, the same day his album “Thank Me Later” was released. The event was shut down at the last minute, however, after an estimated crowd of 10,000 swelled to 25,000.

Robin Williams shaves body hair for ‘The World’s Greatest Dad’

London, Aug 31 (ANI): Actor Robin Williams has shaved his body hair for a particular scene in his new film ‘The World’s Greatest Dad’.

The comedian suffered embarrassment in 1991, when he was compared to a Yeti after stripping in the movie ‘The Fisher King’.

However, the ‘Flubber’ star is candid about his new role, which demanded him to briefly bare all to jump into a swimming pool.

“I shaved because if you don’t, it’s like animal rights issues,” the Daily Express quoted him as saying.

Recollecting his earlier film he added: “I did a nude scene in The Fisher King; it was Central Park, I was a homeless guy, so I was covered in dirt and really hairy and it was like, ‘Is that Bigfoot?’” (ANI)

Most scientifically accurate and advanced planetarium show on display in US

Washington, August 21 (ANI): High-performance computing systems, visualization resources, and software tools provided by the National Science Foundation TeraGrid helped make the Hayden Planetarium’s new space show the most scientifically accurate and advanced planetarium show ever produced.

The Hayden Planetarium is a public planetarium located on Central Park West, New York City, next to and organizationally part of the American Museum of Natural History.

“Journey to the Stars,” which debuted this summer at the American Museum of Natural History, is being hailed as the most beautiful planetarium show to date.

Narrated by Whoopi Goldberg, the 25-minute presentation takes viewers on a journey through the universe.

The space show projects cutting-edge visualizations of the universe onto the 87-foot, seven-million-pixel dome of the museum’s Hayden Sphere at the Rose Center for Earth and Space in New York City.

Piecing together a new narrative of life’s origins, the space show explains how dark matter’s gravity gathered the primordial gas in the universe to form the first stars, and how these massive stars exploded, seeding the galaxy with new stars and the chemical elements that made life possible.

The centerpiece of the show, and the most difficult sequence to depict scientifically, is a flight into the center of the Sun.

The visuals of the Sun were produced using supercomputing resources provided by the NSF TeraGrid, a national cyberinfrastructure for open scientific research.

According to Ro Kinzler, the show’s producer, “We wanted to treat the Sun in a terrific and powerful way to [not just] reveal the surface, but to take our audience into the Sun, through the convective layer and into the core.”

“The results are beautiful. No one has seen the Sun in this way, and the software from NCAR and computational resources from TACC made it possible,” he said.

The visual sequences are based on the research of Juri Toomre, a professor of astrophysics at the University of Colorado at Boulder, and run on TACC’s Ranger supercomputer.

“It’s not enough to know what comes out of the surface,” Toomre said.

“We would like to understand how the magnetic engine of a star works, how it churns away and how it builds orderly fields. This is one of the top 10 questions in physics,” Toomre added.

“A very dramatic moment in the show is when we actually peel away the surface of the Sun, revealing the dynamic convective motion below,” Kinzler said. “We take the audience through the convective region and into the Sun’s core,” he added. (ANI)

New York, July 1 (ANI): Late King of Pop Michael Jackson once apparently lost an art masterpiece bid to Hollywood star Sylvester Stallone.

The singer was said to have been transfixed with the 12-foot-tall painting of Mary holding a dead Jesus.

“He said one word over and over during that whole time — ‘Awesome!’ ” the New York Post quoted Pivar as saying.

Jackson reportedly sent his entourage into the foyer later, while he kept admiring the masterpiece.

However, Stallone allegedly put in his bid first. (ANI)

Jacko was the greatest dancer, musician the world has seen: Martin Bashir

London, June 27 (ANI): English journalist Martin Bashir has honoured Michael Jackson, calling the King of Pop the “greatest entertainer the world has ever known”.

Bashir spent eight months and conducted a series on interviews with the singer at his Neverland ranch for the controversial TV special Living With Michael Jackson.

The broadcast showed Jackson’s confession of offering his bed to child friends, which later led to sexual abuse charges against the late icon for which he was found not guilty.

“Michael Jackson was probably, singly, the greatest dancer and musician the world has seen,” The Sun quoted Bashir as saying.

The 46-year-old added: “I was out running in Central Park in New York when I heard. I came home, showered and came into the office.

“When I made the documentary, there was a small part that contained a controversy concerning his relationship with young people.

“But the truth is that he was never convicted of any crime, and I never saw any wrongdoing myself. His lifestyle may have been unorthodox, but I don’t believe it was criminal.

“I think the world has now lost the greatest entertainer it’s probably ever known.”

Jackson died aged 50 on Thursday. He was reported to have suffered a cardiac arrest but medics are yet to determine the cause of his death. (ANI)

Brown bear on the loose in Ljubljana

Ljubljana – Stand still, play dead, because the beast can outrun, outjump and out-climb any human: These instructions were broadcast in the Slovenian capital Ljubljana Thursday morning, as the search for a brown bear roaming in the city began.

The animal had first been sighted at 4 am (0200 GMT) in the central city park. An alert was issued and a search launched after a head-count in the Ljubljana zoo confirmed that both resident bears were safely locked up.

Police said the bear probably became lost after crossing from the hilly woodlands across the highway belt encircling the city and warned people to stay away from the area of the sighting.

Some 700 brown bears are estimated to live in the former Yugoslavian Alpine-Adriatic republic, which is roughly half the size of Switzerland.

Clarke maintains form in the face of personal anguish

Melbourne, Jan 11 (ANI): Australian cricketer Michael Clarke has had the best summer of his career, but he has been playing under the cloud of family anguish and concern for the people he loves most.

“The great thing is he’s still smiling, still loving life. That’s why I got so emotional the other day when I got that hundred (at the SCG). Just how positive dad has been has given me strength.” The Daily Telegraph quoted Clarke, as saying.

He worries about father Les, whose cancer battle has now reached 627 days. He worries about fiancee Lara Bingle, and how she is coping with the loss of her own father to cancer last May.

As Clarke ponders the impact of making himself available for the IPL auction next month, aware of the void he may leave at home, it’s clear how much Australia’s vice-captain has grown as a man and as a cricketer.

“Dad’s going OK,” Clarke says. “He’s got another scan in February, so I’ve got my fingers crossed, I’m just hoping it comes back clear. It’s curable, it’s just a matter of where the tumours are and hopefully the chemo and the radiation treatment has got rid of them,” he said.

The shaven-headed 27-year-old has found more steel and substance, enabling him to amass 1063 Test runs at 50.62 in 2008 — smashing his previous best of 596 runs in a calendar year, the paper said.

He had many reasons to crack in 2008. That he didn’t, that he became stronger, tougher, more resolute, more assured, more determined and more dependable only underlines his leadership credentials.

Last May, just six weeks after Clarke proposed to Bingle in New York’s Central Park, Graham Bingle lost his battle with liver and pancreatic cancer.

Clarke insists he is happy to bide his time as Ricky Ponting’s deputy, although he has picked the brains of former Test skippers Mark Taylor, Ian Chappell and Steve Waugh.

But the career-shaping chats have been with Shane Warne, the Daily Telegraph said. (ANI)
