Katie Price fuels pregnancy rumours

London, May 21 (ANI): Katie Price a.k.a Jordan has fuelled rumours that she’s pregnant by ditching a boozy birthday bash.

The glamour model is set to turn 32 but has snubbed all offers of a celebration, including a romantic trip away.

Instead, she is planning a quiet day and evening with husband Alex Reid, 34, and her three children.

“Kate has been really trying to stay healthy in the last few months so that she can focus on starting a family with Alex,” the Daily Star quoted a source as saying.

“It’s not a special birthday, she is 32 and knows she is getting older and just decided to stay at home. Everyone thinks that it might mean she and Alex finally have had some good news,” the source added. (ANI)

Ancelotti backs Chelsea to win Treble next year

London, May 16 (ANI): After winning Double, Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti has set his sights on a Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup Treble next year.

Ancelotti said that he can fulfill owner Roman Abramovich’s ambition of winning Champion League without adding players to his squad.

“We wanted to win the Champions League this year. It didn’t happen but we will try next season. This team has the quality to win the Champions League without change. We have to be happy with these trophies. It’s right to have a celebration because we had a fantastic season,” News of the World quoted Ancelotti, as saying.

“For me it’s right to have a holiday but I want to think about next season. We know Chelsea have never won the Champions League and it’s one of our aims for next season. And we want to win the Premier League and the FA Cup again.

“We will start next season having won the Double. I think that will put more attention on us, but this is normal. We are proud to have this attention,” Ancelotti said.

Skipper John Terry celebrated the unique achievement in the club’s history and put Ancelotti on the same level as ‘Special One’ Jose Mourinho.

“Jose is always going to be a massive part of this football club. But other managers have come here in the last three or four years and not really lived up to expectations.

“Now Carlo has come in and in his first season he has achieved something that no other manager or group of players have ever managed at Chelsea. So Jose will never be forgotten – but nor will Carlo and this group of players,” Terry said. (ANI)

England ‘least patriotic’ country in Europe: Survey

London, Apr 20(ANI): A new survey has found that England is the least patriotic country in Europe.

According to This England magazine’s study, respondents were questioned on several aspects of national pride, with English people judging their overall level of patriotism to be 5.8 out of ten on average.

It also revealed that just one in three British people were aware that the celebration of St. George was this Friday, while forty percent did not know why he is the patron saint.

Twenty percent blamed a broken society for their lack of patriotism, while half said they had been patriotic in the past.

“We’re incredibly disappointed that English people are afraid of displaying the St. George’s Cross on our patron saint’s day,” The Sun quoted Stephen Garnett, editor of This England magazine, as saying.

“It was quite shocking to see some of the results, particularly the amount of people that don’t fly the flag because of fear of being judged. It just shows what political correctness has done to the English people over the years,” he added.

The survey, which questioned 5,820 adults in nine European countries including Scotland, Wales and The Republic of Ireland, found that The Netherlands was the most patriotic European country.

The Dutch people ranked their patriotism at 7.18 out of ten, followed by Scottish at 7.1, the Welsh at 7.06 and the Irish at 6.72. (ANI)

New airline to fly in ‘Our Torah’

The airline that is soon to begin services to the New South Wales Snowy Mountains will fly Olympian Torah Bright to the area tomorrow for a big celebration.

Aeropelican has taken over the daily Sydney to Cooma flight after Regional Express pulled out of the service two years ago.

The airline will fly the winter gold-medallist and her family to Snowy Mountains Airport tomorrow morning, in time for a parade at Cooma.

The newly-elected Mayor of the Cooma-Monaro Shire, Dean Lynch, says he encourages the community to attend the event.

“If they get there to cheer on the athletes, it should be a sight to be seen so if everyone, the whole town and anyone that wants to be here can be there then, I’m sure they’re going to get a treat,” he said.

Nixon made ‘error of judgment’ on Black Saturday

The Prime Minister and the Victorian Premier have both backed the state’s former police chief commissioner, Christine Nixon, after it emerged she went to a pub for dinner on Black Saturday.

Ms Nixon failed to mention her night out at the Bushfires Royal Commission on Tuesday when she was grilled over why she left the emergency control centre at 6:00pm rather than staying to brief the Emergency Services Minister.

Her evidence left the impression that she monitored the unfolding disaster from home.

The Victorian Opposition and some federal MPs are now demanding that Ms Nixon be sacked from her role as head of the Bushfire Reconstruction and Recovery Authority.

On ABC local radio Ms Nixon defended her decision to dine at the North Melbourne pub on the night of the fires.

“I certainly wasn’t intending to mislead anybody,” she said.

“I did say in the statement I gave the commission that I had a meal and I didn’t say obviously at the time that I had gone to a local hotel and had a meal with two friends.

“And that’s all it was. It was a very quick meal and I went back home again and received many calls and obviously monitored the situation.”

Ms Nixon admitted at the Royal Commission that she should have done more on Black Saturday to make sure that adequate warnings were being given to communities under threat.

She was aware that people had been killed and others were missing when she left the emergency control centre.

But she said she did not believe that going out for dinner affected her ability to monitor the emerging disaster.

“Technology these days is very capable of finding where you are,” she said. “Clearly I had my phone with me and was able to be contacted.

“I simply had a meal. There was no celebration, there was nothing else and I think this is just a way to attempt to undermine me, to portray it in this fashion.

“I didn’t mislead the Royal Commission but people are going to make that judgment.”

Resignation calls

Four days after Black Saturday Ms Nixon was offered the job as head of the Bushfire Reconstruction and Recovery Authority.

She had already resigned from the police force. She says that despite realising she should have done more on Black Saturday, she had no hesitation in accepting the job.

“When the Premier asked me and the Prime Minister asked me, then I felt like they had faith and I believed that I could do it,” Ms Nixon said.

But Victorian Opposition Leader Ted Baillieu is outraged by Ms Nixon’s performance on Black Saturday.

“I think Christine Nixon’s position is now untenable and I think it’s untenable because I don’t think she can maintain the confidence of the very people she has to work with as the head of the reconstruction authority,” he said.

“I think Christine Nixon should go.”

Some federal politicians have joined Mr Baillieu in calling for Ms Nixon’s resignation.

The seat of McEwen was hard hit by the bushfires and local member Fran Bailey is seething.

“My office tells me the phone is running off the hook. My constituents are very angry. I don’t think that they could believe it,” Ms Bailey said.

“And I can understand their feeling like that because how could anyone walk out of a command centre with the information that was starting to be gathered about Australia’s worst natural disaster and go home firstly, but secondly then to blithely go out to dinner with friends in a pub?”

Federal Opposition Leader Tony Abbott says it is not a good look for Ms Nixon.

“I’m here to listen rather than to pass judgment. I respect the judgments of my colleagues,” he said.

“Fran and Ted are much closer to all this than I am. For me this is really my first day of intensive involvement with the aftermath of the terrible bushfires.”

But Premier John Brumby has backed Ms Nixon.

“If you look back on that day, she, I think, probably made an error of judgment. She should have stayed at the incident control centre,” he said.

“But there were many people I guess across the state that day who, if you said in hindsight, would you do things differently? They have said that they would do things differently.

“So she made an error of judgment, but I don’t think that affects the great work that she’s done as chair of the bushfire authority.”

A statement from a spokesman for the Prime Minister did not refer to Ms Nixon’s performance on Black Saturday, saying only that Kevin Rudd had full confidence in Ms Nixon and the work she was doing leading the bushfire reconstruction.

Cops ruin Alexandra Burke’s new single release celebration

London, March 29 (ANI): Alexandra Burke’s plans to celebrate the release of her new single All Night Long were ruined when cops came in and broke up the wild bash, it has emerged.

The singer, 21, threw a party at her Hertfordshire home with 500 bottles of bubbly for guests.

However, locals annoyed with the blaring music called up the police and Burke was asked to wrap up the celebrations.

“It was an incredible atmosphere. It was chaos. Everyone joined in – the music was blaring out but everyone was having a really good time. Then at 4am the police rocked up and asked for the party to stop,” the Daily Star quoted an insider, as telling The People (ANI)

Wayne Bridge to pay £1m to Vanessa Perroncel

London, March 27 (ANI): English soccer star Wayne Bridge has to pay former flame Vanessa Perroncel, who had an alleged affair with his team mate John Terry, one million pounds.

The lingerie model also made him double the cash he pays for their three-year-old son, Jaydon.

The footballer now has to increase the monthly payments from 3,000 pounds to 6,000 pounds.

Perroncel is apparently joyous after her attorneys and the Chelsea star’s lawyers reached the agreement.

The recipient of the money will be Perroncel until Jaydon reaches 18.

At 72,000 pounds-a-year that adds up to over 1million pounds.

“The feeling for Vanessa was more of relief than anything else,” the Mirror quoted a pal as saying.

The friend added: “She did not make any unreasonable demands but feels the agreement takes into account Wayne’s earnings, which add up to more than 350,000pounds-a-month.

“It was her birthday on Tuesday and now she feels like she can have a joint celebration.”

Meanwhile, Perroncel’s spokesman refuted reports that she had demanded 20,000 pounds monthly.

He said: “She was not demanding the sort of sums which have been mentioned. But she is pleased.” (ANI)

St Pat’s Races to mark 45yr milestone

The St Patrick’s Races are being held tomorrow and the club says many of the features of this year’s event are a result of community consultation.

Club president Margaret Corradini says the toilets have been fixed, there are more shaded areas and full-strength beer has been put back on the menu.

Ms Corradini says even with the return of the heavy beer, the club has consulted widely with the licensing department and the local police to ensure licensing agreements are met.

She says the event, which is celebrating a milestone this year, is seen as an important event on many social calendars.

“This year’s our 45th year of racing which in itself is absolutely phenomenal for a country race meeting,” she said.

“I think there would be very few country race meetings in Australia that have probably survived for 45 years, so I think people just want to be a part of that celebration.”

Racism, violence plague Australia: Bryce

Governor General Quentin Bryce says racist and violent acts still plague Australia, despite major advances towards a more tolerant society.

The speech at Edith Cowan University in Perth was part of Harmony week, celebrating multicultural Australia.

Ms Bryce says courts are not effectively addressing systematic discrimination.

She says the courts focus on discrimination on a case by case basis, but do little to address the long-term problems.

“The complaints carry a considerable burden in trying to prove the discriminatory behaviour, individuals are frequently in a more vulnerable position than the parties discriminating against them,” she said.

“Among the many daily stories of celebration of multicultural Australia there are still those that weep of hatred and intolerance.”

Jolie-funded Afghanistan school to welcome 800 girls

Washington, Mar 17 (ANI): The primary school for girls, which Angelina Jolie funded in Tangi, Afghanistan, is all set to open its doors to 800 students, according to a UNHCR statement.

Jolie, the UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador, visited a refugee settlement in Afghanistan”s eastern Nangarhar province and donated a whopping 75,000 dollars toward the school”s construction.

The facility features eight classrooms, a well and eight latrines, and is set to begin classes next Monday, when their school year begins.

Although UNICEF built classrooms in the area accommodating 1300 students two years ago, many parents hesitated, for cultural reasons, to send their daughters to a school also used by boys.

“I always had hopes and dreams of going to school. The hope to become a qualified teacher has revived in me,” Us magazine quoted a 14-year-old girl named Laila, as expressing her excitement about the new school.

Igbal Azizi, head of the region”s provincial education, stressed the importance of Jolie”s gift, saying that Tangi girls, “otherwise would have been deprived of education.”

However, Jolie, filming ‘The Tourist’ in Venice, Italy, failed to make it for the new school”s celebration. (ANI)

Oz bookstore’s “control a woman” remote causes outrage

Melbourne, Mar 16 (ANI): A bookstore in Melbourne is said to have sparked outrage after it was found to be selling a “control a woman” remote and that too on International Women’s Day.

According to ABC Radio, Borders was forced to defend the 15 dollars novelty product after a woman told of her anger at seeing it during last week’s celebration of female rights and achievements.

Katie Robertson said she was “troubled” by the toy, “mainly because it encourages a stereotype of women as submissive, who are to be controlled”.

“There are certain buttons on there. For example, the male may decide that he wants beer, sex or food,” News.com.au quoted her as saying.

“He may press a button in which he requires the woman to remove her clothes, cook, clean, leave, (or) say yes.

“There’s also a button in which you can increase her breast size,” she revealed.

Borders spokeswoman Lauren Thompson said the product was intended to be “a bit funny, a bit of a gimmick”, and that “it is base level humour”.

She also said the chain sells a “control a man” remote, which has sold out. (ANI)

Shia Muslims to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Monday

Lucknow, Sept 20 (ANI): A senior official of Shia Muslim community has said that Eid-ul-Fitr would be celebrated on Monday.

Kalbe Sadiq, Shia cleric and senior vice president of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, said here that the Ramadan moon would be sighted on Sunday.

“I can say without any doubt that in Bangladesh, Pakistan, and in India, the moon will be sighted on Sunday. Sunni, Shia and all other sects of Islam will celebrate the festival of Eid-ul-Fitr on Monday,” Sadiq said.

However, Sunni Muslims disagreed, saying they would wait for the sighting of moon before declaring Eid.

“If the moon is sighted on September 20, or if the sighting in reported form anywhere, then Eid will be celebrated on the 21st. And if it is not sighted on the 20th and there are no reports either, in that case it will be celebrated on the 22nd,” said Maulana Khalid Rasheed, head of Lucknow’s Firangi Mahal.

During the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims observe a daylong fast and open it in the evening.

At the end of Ramadan, Muslims throughout the world observe a joyous three-day celebration called Eid-ul-Fitr.

Eid-ul-Fitr falls on the first day of Shawwal, the month, which follows Ramadan in the Islamic calendar. It is a time to give in charity to those in need, and celebrate with family and friends the completion of a month of blessings and joy. (ANI)

Adebayor repeats controversial goal sequence

London, Sep.16 (ANI): Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor stuck two fingers up at football chiefs by recreating his controversial goal celebration in training.

According to The Sun, Adebayor ran down the pitch and slid to his knees in front of fans of his old club in City’s 4-2 win on Saturday.

He apologised after a steward was hurt amid fury in the stand – but did it again to stun team-mates on the training ground.

Adebayor, 25, faces a violent conduct charge for stamping on Robin van Persie which carries a three-match ban.

He could face a further two games if found guilty of improper conduct for his provocative celebration. (ANI)

Artist recreates Taj Mahal – with toothpicks!

London, September 12 (ANI): An artist has recreated the Taj Mahal and other famous landmarks around the world using toothpicks.

It took Stan Munro six years, six million toothpicks and more than 170 litres of glue as he built his latest exhibition, entitled ‘Toothpick City II – Temples and Towers’.

The 38-year-old’s models at the Museum of Science and Technology in Syracuse, New York, feature buildings such as Big Ben, Tower Bridge, The Vatican and Sydney’s Opera House.

“Toothpick City was so much fun to build, I decided to build another one. This one is bigger and much more detailed,” the Telegraph quoted him as saying.

“I want this exhibit to be a celebration of religious diversity, architectural achievement and historical accuracy – or just ‘wow, that’s a lot of toothpicks’.

“No one has built all these buildings to the same scale and put them side by side before – let alone out of toothpicks.

“I really wanted to see what it would look like. If you can’t travel the world, I want people to see this exhibit and think they just did,” he added. (ANI)

Tribals attend RBI’s financial outreach camp in Tripura

Agartala, Sep. 6 (ANI): Thousands of tribal families turned out to participate in a financial outreach camp organized by the Reserve Bank of India in Pitra village of Tripura.

The camp was organised with the objective of bringing awareness among villagers about banking norms.

“Bank wants to lend for projects which would generate economic activity will lead to development of north east.

So we have to be able to work together. The state government, the banks, the non-governmental organisations, the locals, Panchayati Raj institutions and the Reserve Bank will act like a catalyst to make people come together and work together for economic development,” said Usha Thorat, deputy governor, Reserve Bank of India.

Organised on the occasion of Platinum Year celebration of Reserve Bank, the camp witnessed hundreds of villagers gathered at the stalls of different banks for opening of new bank accounts.

The villagers were also informed and familiarized with various banking facilities, security features of currency notes, exchange their soiled and mutilated currency notes, exchange currency notes for coins and also look into their complains with regards to banking facilities.

“In the village there is no banking system and this camp will be of great benefit to us. The villagers had no means of saving but now we think we can save something for our future,” Bubantala Jamatia, a villager

Under the model, post offices, cooperatives, NGOs, financial institutions, self-help groups, retired employees of state or central government may act as an agent of the banks and provide services to people. (ANI)
