Depp gossiped about ‘Public Enemies’ co-stars in French!

New Delhi, June 30 (ANI): Hollywood star Johnny Depp has revealed that he and beauty Marion Cotillard spoke to each other in French on sets of ‘Public Enemies’ so that film’s cast and crew members don’t understand what they were talking about.

He said: “We would sometimes speak French to each other on the set, especially when we didn’t want anyone else to know what we were saying!”

However, after a point of time the 33-year-old actress grew tired of speaking in her native language because she felt it was affecting her acting, reports The China Daily.

She said: “Johnny’s French is excellent. But I could not let myself lapse into speaking a lot of pure French with Johnny. I was working so hard to really perfect the accent of my character Billie Frechette, and that was not easy. She was of mixed heritage – both French and Native American – and supposedly had an accent that was quite different.”

Johnny – who lives in the South of France with his long-term partner Vanessa Paradis and their two children, 10-year-old Lily-Rose and Jack, seven – praised his co-star for her acting skills.

He said: “Marion really worked hard on that accent, and I think the way she speaks in the film adds so much to the personality of the character she plays. You can see why Dillinger fell in love with her so easily.” (ANI)

Heath Ledger inspired Terry Gilliam to complete fantasy film

Washington, May 25 (ANI): Director Terry Gilliam has said that it was Heath Ledger who saved his fantasy film ‘The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus’ from being shelved, for it was the actor’s untimely death that pushed him to finish the project.

Ledger died of an accidental prescription drug overdose in January 2008, while he was shooting for the film.

The news devastated Gilliam, and he almost shut down the set.

However, his memories of the late actor prevented him from abandoning the project.

The filmmaker instead went on to revise the original script, and recruited actors Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell to fill in Ledger’s last role.

“The closing credit says ‘By Heath and Friends’ because the film changed with his death. He forced me to make changes and we wouldn’t have finished it if it wasn’t for Heath…” Contactmusic quoted him as saying.

He added: “Fortunately, I was surrounded by really good people who insisted that… we had to go out and find a way of finishing the film for Heath.”

Gilliam further said that Hollywood lost an enormous talent in Ledger, who inspired the entire cast and crew on set.

He added: “Heath was enjoying himself so much and he was ad-libbing a lot, which I don’t normally allow… but Heath was just brilliant at it and he got everybody else going. Everybody was just energised by Heath. He was extraordinary. He was almost exhausting because he had so much energy.” (ANI)

“He has the highest tolerance for pain that I’ve ever seen in a human being. He worked through the movie. I’m not kidding,” she added. (ANI)

Ashutosh Gowariker to recreate life of Gautam Buddha on screen

Mumbai, May 11 (ANI): Award winning director, Ashutosh Gowariker, is all set to direct an English film based on the life of Gautam Buddha.

The movie, to be produced by the Spice Infotainment Ltd, is believed to be the most expensive film ever made in Bollywood with a whopping amount of rupees 600 crore.

Incidentally, it was Gowariker who had portrayed the life of Buddha in another award winning director, Shyam Benegal’s popular television series ‘Discovery of India’.

Addressing a press conference in here on Sunday, Gowariker said that the script of the movie has been written by Academy Award winner David Ward and will be titled ‘Buddha’.

When asked about who among the Bollywood actors would portray the character of Buddha in his film, Gowariker said that he is yet to finalise the actor.

“I think the scope of Buddha is global that there are so many countries that are deeply interested, if they had not become Buddhist they are deeply taking interest in learning about Buddhism, learning about what Buddha was all about and keeping that in mind, an international face could do justice to the character as much as an Indian face could,” said Gowariker.

Speaking about the movie’s budget, he said that to re-create the history would be an expensive proposition.

“This is the story that unfolded 2,500 years ago. A time in ancient Indian when you had slavery, you had cruelty and neither that is completely far removed from what we have today. To re-create that is an expensive proposition,” added Gowariker.

Based on the book Old Path White Clouds by a Vietnamese Buddhist monk Thichhat Hanh, the movie will be shot in the Himalayas.

‘Buddha’, with a diverse cast and crew, is expected to go on the floor in May 2010 and be completed by the end of the year.

Spice follows in the heels of local firms UTV Motion Pictures and the Reliance Entertainment that are looking beyond Indian shores for content and audiences. (ANI)

Stephan Elliott unintentionally urinated on photog while filming Easy Virtue

Washington, May 8 (ANI): Australian film director Stephan Elliott has revealed how he inadvertently urinated on a snapper stalking Jessica Biel on the set of his English period comedy ‘Easy Virtue’.

He recalled that his crew was filming in a Nottinghamshire field, miles from the nearest restroom, at the time.

“We were shooting with Jessica and it would just have been so much of a hassle to walk all the way back to the loo, so I apologised to the cast and crew, made my excuses and wandered towards a nearby bush,” Contactmusic quoted him as saying.

“I was relieving myself and I looked down and I realised I was p**sing on a photographer.

“Fortunately, he was too flustered and embarrassed to take a shot,” he added.

Elliott even admitted that he would never want to swap places with Biel or her boyfriend Justin Timberlake, who visited the set on a couple of occasions.

He said that he just couldn’t deal with their level of fame.

“We had paparazzi everywhere. These guys can’t even fart without a camera being there. And there’s not a lot you can do about it,” he added. (ANI)

When Keira Knightley sang like ‘a pubescent boy’

Washington, Mar 16 (ANI): Hollywood actress Keira Knightly was left embarrassed when she realised that she “sounded like a pubescent boy” where she sang in her film ‘The Edge of Love’.

The Atonement star was supposed to lip-synch for her part in the 2008 period drama, in which she plays a lover of poet Dylan Thomas.

However, she was terrified when director John Maybury pushed her to actually sing in front of 150 members of the cast and crew.

“I thought that this is sort of one of those horrendous dreams you have, you know, those anxiety dreams… And the first time I sang, I sounded like a pubescent boy because I was so nervous my voice just went sky-high,” Contactmusic quoted her as telling Moviefone.com.

Knightley admitted to having vodka shots to settle her nerves.

“It was awful. And I could see all these faces going, ‘Oh my God, you’re crap.’ So I had a shot of vodka, and then it was fine after that,” she added. (ANI)

Bruce Willis files counter-suit against ‘Joan’ producers ‘breach-of-contract’case

Washington, March 6 (ANI): Hollywood actor Bruce Willis filed a counter-suit against a “breach-of-contract” case filed by the producers of ‘Three Stories About Joan’, alleging that they falsely claimed that they had full financing to produce the film.

The producers moved the court seeking four million dollars in compensation from Willis and his production house, claiming that the star had breached a contract regarding toplining and directing the film.

Filing their suit paper, the producers alleged that Willis quit the film without giving them any notice.

However, Willis approached Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday to file a counter-suit, seeking 8.7 million dollars in compensatory damages against Moshe Diamant, Mark Damon, Foresight Unlimited, Signature Entertainment Group, Three Stories Prods. and 20 other parties.

In his cross-complaint, the actor has alleged that he had been assured by Diamant that the producers would provide a commitment letter, confirming that they had obtained 20 million dollars in financing, 30 days before the start of the movie shoot.

Willis further states that the producers also promised to deposit his acting fee in escrow at least seven days before filming was to begin, reports Variety magazine.

According to him on the eve of the star of production, Diamant admitted that the financing was not in place.

He claims that along with him, producers Stephen Eads and David Willis and many members of the cast and crew had spent more than five weeks working on pre-production at that point. (ANI)

‘Three Stories About Joan’ lawsuit frivolous, says Bruce Willis’ rep

New York, Mar 3 (ANI): A representative of Bruce Willis, who has been sued over a film he allegedly walked out on, insists that the lawsuit against the actor is frivolous and has no merit.

The 53-year-old star has been sued for 4 million dollars over a film titled ‘Three Stories About Joan’ he allegedly walked out on.

“The lawsuit filed against Bruce Willis by the production companies on the proposed motion picture ‘Three Stories About Joan’ is frivolous and has no merit,” The New York Daily News quoted the rep as saying.

Willis’ attorney Marty Singer added: “In over three decades of practice, I have rarely seen such an absurd lawsuit.

“The production companies admitted they did not have the financing in place for the film, failed to pay members of the cast and crew, and failed to deposit Bruce Willis’ compensation in escrow, which resulted in the film not going forward.

“After Mr. Willis threatened to sue the production companies for their breach of contract, they responded with this baseless lawsuit.

“Mr. Willis and other individual producers will proceed with their multi-million-dollar affirmative claims against the production companies this week, and are confident that they will prevail.” (ANI)

Shahrukh Khan slams ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ critics

Mumbai, Feb 9 (ANI): Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan, slamming critics of Oscar nominated ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ has said that the film presents to the world a ‘visually appealing’ India.

Khan said that there is no reason for people to become cynical if a filmade on Indian uniqueness has made a mark in the world.

“I think it’s really nice that it will open doors for people to understand that there is a lot of visual appeal to India. I hear a lot of people saying that India has been shown in bad light. But then my logic to everyone is that why is it that somebody comes from outside and makes a film like Gandhi and Slumdog. It becomes internally acceptable.

All we can say about it is that it is showing India in a poor light,” said Khan while speaking to reporters here last evening.

He added that the music of ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ is a hit across the globe and that he does not regret declining Anil Kapoor’s role in the film.

Incidentally, the film in which Kapoor played the role of a cynical quiz master was shot when Khan was already hosting ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ (KBC).

Many critics including Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan have said that British filmmaker Danny Boyle’s ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, a hard-hitting but exuberant tale of life in a Mumbai slum, is being lauded because it has a Westerner at the helm.

The movie’s international success has been tempered by objections in India to the name, which some slum dwellers find offensive, its depiction of the lives of impoverished Indians and the treatment of the cast.

Its director, Danny Boyle, has faced accusations from some parts of the Indian media that his film was “poverty porn.” Boyle has said he was trying to capture Mumbai’s “lust for life.”

Dozens of residents of Mumbai where “Slumdog Millionaire” was partly shot have staged protests hurling insults and hitting pictures of its cast and crew with slippers. Slum residents of other Indian states have also staged similar protests.

The low budget film, which has scooped several international awards including the BAFTA film awards on Sunday, triumphed at the Golden Globes last month with four honours including best drama and won ten Oscar nominations.

Shahrukh Khan also took the opportunity to slam the self-styled ‘moral policing’ elements who object to open display in public of affection on Valentine’s Day.

“We should see Valentine’s as a day of friendship and love and not as a western culture attack on the Indian culture. I would say all youngsters should give roses to all the people they love in a good way,” said Khan.

The Bollywood heartthrob, who had called for a news conference to clear the controversy surrounding his forthcoming film, ‘Billu Barber’ against which hairdressers had raised objections to the word ‘barber’ terming it as ‘derogatory’, said that he has read the original book as well as the script and really liked the film.
