Kiwi politician’s hidden camera sex scam

Wellington, May 16 (ANI): A former New Zealand mayoral candidate Pat Norris, accused of publishing a sex video he made of a woman staying at a house he owned, has defended himself saying he did what any other “red-blooded male” would have done.

The Nelson resident who contested the Kawerau mayoralty three years ago had allegedly pretended to fit motion sensors, when he installed cameras in the house.

The woman claimed he fitted one in the lounge, one in the kitchen, one in the dining room and one in her bedroom.

Police revealed that the cameras were set up in a way that allowed Norris to view the inside of the house in “real time” at “any time”.

“What he did was like physical abuse or worse. It”s a violation,” the New Zealand Herald quoted the woman, whose identity hasn’t been revealed, as saying.

However, Norris justified himself saying that the cameras were there to protect his investment in case it was broken into, not to spy on the woman.

He further asserted that he had printed them because the woman was sleeping with a married man whose wife had a right to see the images.

Norris, 53, is believed to be the first person charged with publishing material under anti-covert-filming laws brought in about five years ago.

He said he thought the new law was about “people using mobile phones in an up-skirt or down-blouse peeping toms scenario”.

He faces four charges of publishing an intimate visual recording and one of intentionally making an intimate visual recording. (ANI)

The free show marked the group”s film debut, alongside Britain”s Got Talent winners Diversity and George Sampson. (ANI)

Video emerges of Times Square suspect buying fireworks

Washington, May 7 (DPA) A video has been aired in the US showing the suspect in the attempted bombing of New York’s Times Square purchasing fireworks.

Broadcaster CNN aired the footage Thursday captured by cameras in a Phantom Fireworks store in Matamoras, Pennsylvania, which is said to show Faisal Shahzad purchasing M-88 firecrackers.

M-88s were a component in the bomb placed in a black sport-utility vehicle and parked Saturday in the heart of New York. The bomb never detonated, and a street vendor alerted police to the suspicious vehicle.

Shahzad, a 30-year-old naturalized US citizen from Pakistan, was arrested Monday while trying to flee the country at John F Kennedy International Airport.

Shahzad faces charges that include attempting to carry out a terrorist attack.

Night vision goggles coming soon to mobile phones, eyeglasses

Washington, April 27 (ANI): A thin film that converts infrared light into visible light has been developed – a breakthrough which, researchers claim, could give cell phones, eyeglasses and car windshields cheap, lightweight night vision.

To come up with the film, boffins adapted technology found in flat screen television sets, reports Discovery News.

“This device can convert any infrared image into a visible image and would weigh no more than a pair of eyeglasses,” said Franky So, a scientist at the University of Florida.

The device would need about 18 months to improve and be used for practical applications, such as car windshields, lightweight night vision eyeglasses and cell phones cameras.

“Ten years ago when people talked about putting cameras in cell phones, people asked why would you want to do that,” said So. “Now you cannot find a cell phone without a camera. In the future, you might not be able to find a cell phone without night vision.”

The discovery has been described in the journal Advanced Materials. (ANI)

CSIRO boosts telescope funding

Australia’s national science agency will use three Federal Government science fellowships to develop specialised technology for a major astronomy project in the Murchison.

The fellowships, worth about $835,000 over three years, were awarded to the CSIRO on Friday.

They are part of a $27.2 million Federal Government package to support and maintain specialised research in Australia.

The CSIRO says the money will be used to employ a team of researchers, who will work on refining an innovative radio camera capable of receiving incoming cosmic radio waves.

Once built, the cameras will be fitted to each of the 36 satellites, which make up the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP) Telescope.

Cash grab as armoured truck drops $100k

Americans made a frenzied grab for a bag of cash after more than $US100,000 ($110,247) tumbled out the back of an armoured truck onto a street in Ohio.

Local media reported the bag split open after it fell off the back of a vehicle and the driver drove away without noticing.

People saw the cash blowing down the street in a Columbus suburb and a mad scramble for the greenbacks ensued.

“People were jumping out of their vehicles,” one witness told NBC4 news.

“Like when you throw some fish in and you’ve got a school of piranhas and they haven’t eaten for a long time. It was funny.”

Another witness said people were laughing, smiling and taking as much as they could carry.

Workers at a nearby flower shop helped police gather the remaining money in boxes.

Many people later took some of the cash to the police station.

But only about $US10,500 ($11,582) was recovered by the end of the day, the Columbus Dispatch reported.

“We’re hoping that more people do the right thing,” an officer told the newspaper.

Police are examining surveillance camera video and photographs from cell phone cameras to try to track down people who grabbed the money.

NCP welcomes Congress action against Chaturvedi

New Delhi, March 17 (IANS) Stating that everyone must exercise restraint in language, the NCP said Wednesday it was satisfied with Congress’ action against MP Satyavrat Chaturvedi, who was removed as spokesperson for his reported objectionable remarks against Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar.

Chaturvedi was Tuesday eased from the panel of party spokespersons following the controversy over his alleged remarks against the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief on the issue of price rise.

‘We are satisfied with the action taken,’ NCP leader Tariq Anwar told IANS. ‘Everybody should exercise restraint in the use of language.’

Chaturvedi’s abusive remarks against Pawar came during a television interview. The MP reportedly did not know that the cameras were running when he made the comment.

Congress sources said Chaturvedi’s remarks were not an official comment and he was talking off the record.

However, the party had been embarrassed and the decision was taken to remove Chaturvedi from the panel of spokespersons, said a party leader.

Chaturvedi continues as special invitee to the Congress Working Committee, the party’s top decision making body.

This is not the first time Chaturvedi is in trouble for his intemperate remarks. He was earlier removed as spokesperson for remarks about then Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh.

Push for confiscation of bully devices

The State Opposition says authorities should be able to confiscate technology used for bullying.

The LNPs Bruce Flegg says violence among schoolchildren is often filmed and uploaded via phones and computers.

He has told State Parliament the Criminal Code should be amended to give police or schools the power to seize such devices.

“As a community and as a Parliament we have not yet come to grips with the new technologies that are such a big part of the lives of children,” Mr Flegg said.

“With the advent of social networking sites, cameras, mobile phones, MMS, email and the like – images of bullying and violence – particularly assaults against schoolchildren – can be captured, circulated and posted on the internet.”

Elliott Fletcher, 12, died last month after a schoolyard stabbing at a school on Brisbane’s bayside.

Another boy’s father says his son was attacked by a different student a few days before Elliott Fletcher’s death.

Jennifer Aniston keeps fit by running around horse track

Washington, September 20 (ANI): Jennifer Aniston has been running hard to maintain her fitness while shooting new film ‘The Bounty.’

The actress reportedly woke up at 5a.m in the morning and ran laps around New Jersey’s Monmouth Park racecourse to the surprise of the crewmembers.

“She showed up every morning at 5am to run laps on the giant oval for a solid hour before cameras rolled,” Contactmusic quoted a source as saying.

“She’s really disciplined about keeping fit. She’d get there before everyone else and zip around that huge track like a winner!” the source added.

The ‘Break-Up’ star apparently prefers running to other fitness regimes as it keeps her thighs and calves toned.

Even earlier this year, it was reported that she woke up at 3am to work out so that she could stick to her busy shooting schedule.

Pretending to be someone else is “like a drug”, says Penelope Cruz

Washington, Aug 21 (ANI): Penelope Cruz has said that she is hooked on to disguising herself because of the rush it gives her.

The actress feels the habit of assuming someone else’s identity is “like a drug.”

The ‘Broken Embraces’ star revealed that she first started impersonating people in her mother’s beauty parlour when she was just a child.

“I would play with my girlfriends, pretending to be somebody else and I started to notice that that feeling was like a drug for me,” Contactmusic quoted her saying.

She added: “My mother’s beauty salon was the best acting school for me. I don’t know why, but women in a hair salon share their deepest secrets.

“I was 11 and I would sit there and pretend I was doing my homework but actually I was observing all of those women.”

The stunner also spoke about the difficulties of acting in a film.

She explained: “I always feel scared and insecure on a film set. I don’t know any other way. Most of the hours you spend on set you are actually trying to hold on to the emotions of your character.

“Sometimes you will do a close up where you are totally distraught, then shoot the rest of that scene seven hours later. How do you hang on to that feeling all day without burning up, without going so far you’ve got nothing let to give when the cameras roll again. That’s a little bit like playing with fire.” (ANI)

And the ‘Heroes’ star admits she’s often caught by roommate.

“I’ve had so many embarrassing moments. You name it, I’ve done it. I’m always falling on my face!” she added.

Although the 19-year-old beauty admits that she’s comfortable with her body, she sometimes can be jealous of other people and it is one of her worst features.

“I hate it whenever I feel envy or jealous in any respect. It’s such a terrible feeling, and such a silly thing to feel,” she added.

Panettiere has also revealed that she’s most attracted to confident men who can cope with her celebrity status.

“I like guys who are confident but not cocky. There is a type of confidence that you know isn’t fake or put on because that person is secure in themselves. I find that very attractive and sexy,” she said.

“It’s important that someone can handle the type of life I lead too, which is all about cameras and people making stories up about you. That can make people feel both angry and insecure, which can ruin a relationship,” she added. (ANI)

Washington, Aug 15 (ANI): Hugh Grant has revealed that he is seriously thinking of giving up acting – because he freezes up on camera.

“I like everything about filming except the acting. I’m wonderful in rehearsals, but I’ve never been very good when they actually switch the cameras on,” Contactmusic quoted him as telling Entertainment Weekly magazine.

“In recent years, I’ve had really bad attacks, where I totally freeze up. I thought, ‘Well, if I’m going to get stage fright, then I’m packing it in,’” he added.

However, Grant also said that that he’ll have to either seriously quit acting or stop talking about quitting: “I feel foolish having said so often, ‘Oh, I don’t want to do any more (films).’ And then I always do.” (ANI)
