Lil’ Kim, Derek Hough booted off ABC’s ‘Dancing with the Stars’

New York, May 6 (ANI): American rapper Kimberly Denise Jones a.k.a. Lil’ Kim has been ousted from ABC’s ‘Dancing with the Stars’, along with her professional partner Derek Hough.

Lil’ Kim, 33, who consistently scored high through most of the season, seemed to be winning when she was eliminated on May 5, after viewers voted her out on May 4.

“There was a real shock in the room,” the New York Daily News quoted host Tom Bergeron as saying regarding her departure.

Hough, 23, who won last season with Brooke Burke, has nothing but praise for his professional partner.

“She’s an amazing person, an amazing soul, and amazing spirit and an amazing dancer,” he said.

Despite having been ousted from the show, Lil’ Kim remained upbeat about her time on “Dancing with the Stars”.

“This is one of the greatest experiences I’ve ever experienced in my life,” she stated. (ANI)

“Psychedelica” fish has a wild swirl of tan and peach zebra stripes

Washington, Feb 25 (ANI): Scientists have dubbed a newly discovered fish as “Psychedelica”, as it has a wild swirl of tan and peach zebra stripes and behaves in ways contrary to its brethren.

The odd looking fish, which has rare, forward-facing eyes like humans and a secretive nature, was first spotted a little more than a year ago in the busy harbor of Ambon Island, Indonesia.

According to University of Washington’s (UW) Ted Pietsch, Psychedelica is an apt name, given the absurd way the fish swim, some with so little control that they look intoxicated.

Members of Histiophryne psychedelica, or H. psychedelica, don’t so much swim as hop.

Each time they strike the seafloor, they use their fins to push off and they expel water from tiny gill openings on their sides to jettison themselves forward.

With tails curled tightly to one side, which surely limits their ability to steer, they look like inflated rubber balls bouncing hither and thither.

While other frogfish and similar species are known to jettison themselves up off the bottom before they begin swimming, none have been observed hopping.

It’s just one of the behaviors of H. psychedelica never observed in any other fish, according to Pietsch, UW professor of aquatic and fishery sciences and curator of fishes at the UW Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture.

Adults of H. psychedelica are fist-sized with gelatinous bodies covered with thick folds of skin that protect them from sharp-edged corals as they haunt tiny nooks and crannies of the harbor reef.

Fins on either side of their bodies have, as with other frogfish, evolved to be leg-like, and members of H. psychedelica actually prefer crawling to swimming.

The species has a flattened face with eyes directed forward.

While other anglerfish change their coloring depending on the environment, the new species appears to maintain its wild striping no matter the surroundings.

The coloring led co-author David Hall, a wildlife photographer, to speculate that the fish is mimicking corals.NA work has revealed that H. psychedelica joins two other species in the genus Histiophryne, though the other two are very drably colored in comparison. (ANI)

Proteas inject urgency into Smith cure

Sydney, Jan.6 (ANI): South Africa have wasted little time in attending to injured captain Graeme Smith.

Smith has flown to Melbourne to receive treatment on his broken left hand and undergo an autologous blood injection on his right elbow.

The Proteas are desperate for Smith to regain full fitness in time for Australia”s forthcoming Test tour and have attempted to expedite the healing process by having him treated immediately.

Barely 18 hours after Mitchell Johnson struck him a series-ending blow to the hand, Smith was on a plane to Melbourne for an appointment with local surgeon Greg Hoy to have the fracture attended to.

Smith also paid a visit to another Melbourne specialist, Frank Burke, who performed the first round of blood injections to the torn tendon in the batsman”s right elbow.

The injury has hampered Smith”s preparations throughout the series and is the ailment most likely to threaten his participation in the three-Test series in South Africa.

“We have been performing these injections for about 10 years, and they have been of great help to many people. But like anything in life, there is no guarantee,” the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Burke, as saying.

“It isn”t usually until a second injection that you have a better idea as to how well it is working,” he added.

The 15-minute procedure involved blood being taken from Smith”s arm and then, with the assistance of an ultrasound for positioning purposes, injected directly into the torn tendon.

Smith will be required to undergo a second injection in the coming weeks in South Africa, providing a suitable doctor can be found. The procedure has never before been carried out in South Africa.

If the autologous injection is unsuccessful, Smith is likely to undergo surgery that will rule him out of cricket for three months. He was expected to rejoin the South African squad in Sydney overnight. (ANI)
