Lily Allen dismisses pregnancy reports

London, May 18 (ANI): Lilly Allen has dismissed rumours of pregnancy, which sparked after she revealed that she was quitting her pop career.

Following her exit, she had said: “I”d like to have a child within a year. I”d say it will be a minimum of four or five years before I make a record again.”

Also, recently she was spotted with a phantom bump when a gust of wind blew up her top.

However, she has denied all suggestions of pregnancy.

“I’m not pregnant. FYI”, the Mirror quoted her as writing on Twitter. (ANI)

Pregnant Dannii Minogue launches new clothing range

London, April 28(ANI): Dannii Minogue, who is expecting a child soon, has launched a new range of clothing in collaboration with designer Tabitha Somerset-Webb.

The singer said that pregnancy had “opened her mind” to more creative ideas.

The range tagged Project D, includes a sequinned evening dress from the “luxury” collection.

Apparently, Minogue’s design needed no alteration for her new fuller figure.

“This one”s stretched sequin thankfully so it goes over the bump,” the Telegraph quoted her as telling.

She added: “Being pregnant has completely opened my mind to having to really try different shapes and things I haven”t worn before.

“You”ve got to dress cleverly around it but I”ve managed to get into my dresses without any alterations.”

Project D includes day dresses, cocktail chic and red-carpet-ready dresses.

Minogue added: “Fashion has been a passion of mine since I can remember and I hope that every woman who slips on a Project D dress will feel glamorous yet effortless.

“Our philosophy is to make feeling confident with your wardrobe easy. We will do the hard work and get the details on the dresses right, so all you have to do is enjoy them.

“To me a dress design never comes to life till it is slipped on – who knows what adventures the dresses in this collection will get up to?”

The clothing range will hit stores in June. (ANI)

Harbrow backed over high-speed hit

Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson has called for more latitude to be given to players at the AFL tribunal when they are involved in high-speed collisions.

Clarkson was commenting after Western Bulldogs defender Jarrod Harbrow laid out Hawks midfielder Jordan Lewis with a sickening bump late in the second term of Sunday’s game at Docklands stadium.

Lewis was running with the flight of the ball when the two collided at high speed.

Hawks ruck coach Damian Monkhorst, sitting on the interchange bench, told Clarkson the impact looked like a train wreck.

Lewis was concussed and stretchered off the field, but returned to the game in the final term.

Clarkson said he had not seen a replay of the incident, but it appeared Harbrow was making a legitimate attack on the ball.

“I haven’t seen the incident, but if Harbrow’s elbow is up even just slightly and he (Lewis) has been hit in the head, he’s probably got a six-week holiday coming,” Clarkson said.

“In the tone of the game, for me, sometimes those things are going to happen in footy, it’s a tough, brutal game and it’s getting quicker and harder to adjudicate what is fair and what’s unfair.

“It’s a tough, brutal game sometimes… ‘Kanga’s’ (Hawthorn coach John Kennedy) old philosophy – you cop one, you just pass it on.

“By the end of your career, you’ve usually copped just as many as you’ve given.”

Bulldogs coach Rodney Eade strongly defended Harbrow’s conduct.

“It showed a great deal of courage from Lewis, who was fantastic in the contest, and I thought Jarrod committed himself as well – there was no other option, really,” Eade said.

“We’ve watched the tape and Jarrod got his hand to the ball first… it’s just unfortunate for Lewis.”

Head-high contact has again been a controversial topic this season, with the match review panel making conflicting judgments.

Along with the Harbrow-Lewis clash, the panel is also likely to look at a second-term incident where Hawks key forward Lance Franklin made contact with Jason Akermanis.

The Bulldogs veteran was floored but was soon back in the game.

Brisbane’s Ashley McGrath is already on report for rough conduct following an incident where he made contact with the face of Port Adelaide ruckman Cameron Cloke.

There are unconfirmed reports that an incident seconds before led to the contact.

Lions ruckman Mitch Clark was reported for striking Jackson Trengove, while Hayden Ballantyne of Fremantle was booked for the unusual charge of pinching.

West Coast forward Ashley Hansen is on report for striking North Melbourne midfielder Daniel Wells.

Optimism good for body’s immune system

Washington, Mar 24 (ANI): Optimism may be good for your health, say researchers, claiming that feeling better about the future might help you feel better for real.

In a new study, psychological scientists Suzanne Segerstrom of the University of Kentucky and Sandra Sephton of the University of Louisville studied how law students” expectations about the future affected their immune response.

Earlier studies found that people who are optimistic about their health tend to do better, but it”s not clear how optimism affects your health — or whether pessimism makes you less healthy.

For the study, the researchers recruited first-year law students by sending them a packet during the summer before classes started.

The 124 students that participated in the research were studied at five times over six months.

Each time, they answered questions about how optimistic they felt about law school.

Then they were injected with material that should summon an immune response and two days later, they came back to have the injection site measured.

A larger bump in the skin means a stronger immune response.

Immune systems are many-faceted— this test only measures the strength of the part that is responsible for fighting viral infections and some bacterial infections.

The students” general outlook on life — whether they had an optimistic disposition — didn”t account for the differences in immune responses between students.

But as each student”s expectations about law school waxed and waned, their immune response followed along.

At more optimistic times, they would have bigger immune responses, while at a more pessimistic time, a more sluggish immune response.

So, being optimistic about success in a specific, important domain may promote better immunity against some infections.

“I don”t think that I would advise people that they should revise their expectations to be unrealistic. But if people have slightly more positive views of the future than is actually true, that”s adaptive,” said Segerstrom.

The study has been published in Psychological Science, a journal of the Association for Psychological Science. (ANI)

Blues expect Tigers to come out swinging

Carlton coach Brett Ratten has warned his team to brace for an ultra-aggressive Richmond when the two clubs clash in Thursday night’s AFL season-opener at the MCG.

Ratten said new Tigers coach Damien Hardwick’s combativeness had been his hallmark as a player and that would be mirrored in his team.

“They’ll be coming out swinging, I know Damien very well through playing days … they’ll be hellbent on every possession and making us fight for everything,” the Blues coach said.

Carlton burst Richmond’s bubble in the opening round of last season, inflicting an 83-point belting to spark a chain of losses which led to the eventual dismissal of then-coach Terry Wallace and ultimately Hardwick’s appointment.

Ratten forecast this year’s Tigers would be out to prove from the outset they were up for the fight.

“They’ll be in our face, I’d say, straight from the first bounce,” he said.

“Every play will be a contest and nothing will change from probably the way (Hardwick) played to the team that he coaches.”

Ratten will also be urging his own charges to quickly stamp themselves on the game physically.

“If you sit out and think you can just run round the edges and hopefully get a possession, I think when you get in it and roll your sleeves up and cop a bump or a tackle you feel a part of the game,” he said.

Stars Jarrad Waite and Marc Murphy will both play, after finalising their build-ups by playing half of a practice match with VFL affiliate the Northern Bullants on Friday.

It will be Waite’s first senior game since badly injuring his knee in round nine last year, while Murphy has been working his way back from a hip operation in January.

“Murph looked like he was running over the top of the ground really well and Jarrad’s second and third efforts were fantastic in the game, so they’ll both play,” Ratten said.

With captain Chris Judd missing through suspension for the first three rounds, the coach said the Blues were still tossing up whether to nominate one player to act as skipper over that period, or rotate it.

Andrew Carrazzo and Kade Simpson led for a game each during the pre-season.

Experienced recruits Brock McLean, Lachie Henderson and Robert Warnock – who did not play last season in his first year with the club because of injury – are in line for their first Blues matches, while draftee Kane Lucas is in contention for his AFL debut.

Demons will accept Kennedy decision

Melbourne has described the AFL match review panel’s controversial decision not to charge Josh Kennedy as a precedent for the coming season.

Demons football manager Chris Connolly said the club would accept the panel’s decision on the incident that left their midfielder Colin Sylvia with a broken jaw.

Sylvia was chasing Chris Masten in Saturday’s practice match at Casey Fields when Kennedy laid the shepherd that broke the Demon’s jaw, putting him out of action for a month.

“Firstly, Melbourne will accept the umpire’s decision,” Connolly told 3AW.

“There’s no doubt there is some greyness in and around the interpretation of this rule, so it was going to be an interesting test case.

“Our understanding going into the season is that the head is sacrosanct and if you make contact (to) the head, even if there is greyness around the reason, that you wouldn’t get the benefit of the doubt.

“On this occasion, young Kennedy has got the benefit of the doubt and that will set a precedent for the rest of the season.”

The panel ruled that the contact was not unreasonable in the circumstances.

“The panel determined that Kennedy could not contest the ball and was not able to tackle the Melbourne player, as he did not have the ball,” the AFL said in a statement.

“Sylvia was actively involved in the play, he would have reasonably been expected to influence the contest and the force of the bump was not excessive for that situation.

“Kennedy did not run far to apply the bump, an elbow was not part of the contact and Kennedy did not leave the ground to deliver the bump.

“Sylvia was not in a vulnerable position and could reasonably expect contact to be made.”

The panel also cleared Brisbane forward Amon Buchanan of a match-day report, for making front-on contact with Hawthorn’s Xavier Ellis.

Carlton’s Aaron Joseph and Western Bulldogs veteran Nathan Eagleton accepted reprimands for their charges.

The panel handed Joseph a level-two charge for striking Adelaide opponent Jared Petrenko.

Eagleton was charged with attempting to trip St Kilda utility Farren Ray during the preseason cup final.

But Eagleton will probably miss round one after suffering a hamstring strain in the final.

Richmond defender Jake King is already booked to face the tribunal on Tuesday night for striking Collingwood’s Travis Cloke two weekends ago in a practice match.

King is risking a three-match ban by going to the tribunal.

Her confession comes at a time when she is rumoured to be pregnant with her current beau Javier Bardem’s child.

‘American Fritzl’ Garrido’s arrest was led by women’s intuition, say cops

London, August 30 (ANI): The two policewomen who finally arrested ‘American Fritzl’ Phillip Garrido, for holding a girl as sex slave with his wife Nancy for 18 years, have revealed that their suspicions were raised by “women’s intuition”.

Ally Jacobs and Lisa Campbell said that they became suspicious after being approached by Garrido at the University Of California, to seek permission to hold a religious event there.

They revealed that accompanying Garrido were two “robotic” little girls he fathered with his victim Jaycee Lee Dugard.

Ally recalled that the girls were pale, as if starved of light, and extremely submissive.

What particularly disturbed her was the way the girls dressed and acted, said the cop.

“I can best describe it as they were dressed monochrome. It was almost like Little House On The Prairie,” the News of the World quoted her as saying.

“They were like robots. The young one wouldn’t move and had this eerie smile and the older one had very rehearsed answers and she didn’t very much like talking to us,” she added.

Ally further revealed that one of Garrido’s daughters even told them that there was a third girl living at his house.

The cop said: “The younger daughter told me, ‘We have an older sister aged 28.’ The older daughter said, without missing a beat, ’29′. And she seemed bothered that was even mentioned.”

Ally said that she and Lisa were certain that the little girl was talking about Jaycee.

She revealed that she even asked the younger daughter about a “tumour- like” bump under her brow, fearing that it could be a sign of child abuse.

She recalled: “She immediately replied with this very rehearsed response, ‘It’s a birth defect, inoperable, I will have it for the rest of my life.’ I’m a mother. I have two young sons and this is when my police mode turned into my mother’s mode, kind of mother’s intuition.”

Ally and Lisa said that they asked Garrido to return the next day, so that they would get some time to check his records.

Upon investigation, the cop duo found Garrido to be a registered sex offender on parole for kidnap and rape.

Recalling a discussion with Garrido’s parole officer, Ally said: “He stopped me when I said he brought in his two daughters. He said, ‘He doesn’t have two daughters.’ I felt sick.”

The discovery finally led to Garrido and Nancy’s arrests. (ANI)

The 24-year-old stunner, who’s expecting her first child with hubby Hank Baskett, says her pregnancy “has been such an amazing and exciting experience.”

Labour MPs’ claim Brown as ruthless as a mafia boss

London, July 13 (ANI): Several MPs of the Labour Party have claimed that Prime Minister Gordon Brown is as ruthless and intimidating as a mafia boss.

A senior Labour women has even claimed that Brown sends in brutal hitmen to ‘bump off’ colleagues standing in his way.

“Personally he’s very warm, charming and friendly. But when dealing with his politics he engages with a darker side of himself and he believes the end justifies the means,” The Sun quoted former Environment Minister Jane Kennedy, as saying.

The former minister also agreed upon claims of Brown’s behaviour as a ‘mafia boss’ and said she hated the manner in which fellow party members are undermined.

“He has, and always has had, a group of people around him engaged in undermining Labour people. We want our politics to be about policy and not personalities, but unfortunately we have it constantly thrust in our face,” Kennedy said.

“The way in which people are undermined is usually very personal. It’s a very personal attack and it’s very distasteful,” she added.

Kennedy was among a wave of leading female Labour MPs, who have criticised Brown’s male-dominated domain. (ANI)
