Lily Allen rates English cricketers on who she’ll ‘shag’ or ‘snog’

London, August 22 (ANI): Pop star Lily Allen has apparently revealed who in the England cricket team she will “shag” or “snog”.

Along with her builder boyfriend Sam Cooper, she picked up a programme at the England versus Oz Ashes’ decider at The Oval.

And alongside the players’ names, the brash singer started scribbling what she would like to do with them.

Sam was sitting next to her when she rated Freddie Flintoff a “shag”, and Steve Harmison a “snog”.

“Lily was marking her favourites on the programme and rubbing her fella’s face in it,” the Sun quoted a source as saying.

“She likes Freddie the best so she scribbled shag next to his picture and snog next to Steve’s.

“She likes to wind her boyfriend up and make him jealous. It was doing the trick. She was clinging on to him all day. They were loved-up,” the source added.

Clad in a see-through top, Lily was shown on television as well as on the ground’s big screen several times during the opening day’s play.

Sources have revealed that Sam started to feel uncomfortable when they went to the players’ bar for a tipple at the end of play.

A source said: “He was taking it all in his stride until they went to the bar. It was then when he started to look really uncomfortable with the attention she was getting. She was the talk of the dressing room because of all the stuff she’s been saying about the team.”

Lily is also said to have turned her affections towards champion bowler Stuart Broad on Twitter.

She Twittered: “Stuart Broad is fast becoming my favourite England cricketer. OMG. Broad is a genius. And he doesn’t have a beer gut.”

Reports quoting her having stating that have also pointed out hat her current fella has a beer gut. (ANI)

“We have appointed certain committees. We will have a project management committee. We have also constituted an audit committee, banking and financing committee and the legal committee and in these committees, the project management committee… We have also included others like ILFS, ICICI bank, SBI. Our main task is to evaluate the project and restore the confidence with the customers and vendors,” said K Ramalingam, Chairman, Maytas Infra Ltd, at a news conference in New Delhi.

The board was expected to pursue five billion rupees in receivables from customers as part of a mandate to revive the company that has seen orders being cancelled and customers worrying over the company’s credibility.

Maytas, which is controlled by the family of Satyam’s former chairman Ramalinga Raju, has orders worth 85 billion rupees.

It was also awarded a 150-billion-rupee metro project in Hyderabad, but Maytas missed a deadline to tie up funds for the project.

Shares in Maytas, whose market value has plunged three-quarters to 49 million dollars since early January, rose by its daily limit of five percent to 41.05 rupees in a flat Mumbai market on Tuesday. (ANI)

US stocks rally despite dour Fed forecast

New York – US stocks gained Wednesday, ending a volatile session and a two-day losing streak, amid optimism over a major merger in the housing sector.

Stocks briefly cut gains after the Federal Reserve said in its minutes from its last policy meeting in March that “downward risks” remained in the economy. The United States is in the midst of one of its longest recessions since the Great Depression.

The Fed noted a rapid deterioration in labour market conditions, with steep job losses across all sectors.

The US shed 663,000 jobs in March, lifting the unemployment rate to 8.5 per cent, its highest level in more than a quarter century. More than 5 million jobs have now been lost since a recession began in December 2007, the sharpest drop since World War II.

The markets rallied after news that Pulte Homes Inc was buying Centex Corp in a 3.1-billion-dollar deal to create the country’s largest home builder.

Despite sliding Monday and Tuesday, stocks have gained nearly 20 per cent since reaching 12-year lows in early March, as investors took some better-than-expected industry figures as a sign that the US economy may have hit bottom.

“We think that a bottom is being put in place,” David Heupel of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans in Minneapolis told Bloomberg news. “The more comfort you get with earnings and the viability of financial companies, the more enthusiasm goes back into stocks and into the market.”

The blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 47.55 points, or 0.61 per cent, to 7,837.11. The broader Standard and Poor’s 500 Index gained 9.61 points, or 1.18 per cent, to 825.16. The technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index climbed 29.05 points, or 1.86 per cent, to 1,590.66.

The US currency dropped against the euro to 75.34 euro cents from 75.37 euro cents on Tuesday. The dollar dropped against the Japanese currency to 99.76 yen from
100.47 yen. (dpa)

North Korea presents Obama with leadership test

North Korea’s missile launch presented U.S. President Barack Obama with a leadership test on Sunday during a European tour where he hoped to focus on the economy, Afghanistan and nuclear non-proliferation.

Obama, who took office in January, has tried to emphasize a consultative approach to foreign policy during an eight day-trip that began with an economic summit in London and included an open-air speech in Prague where he called for a world free of nuclear weapons.

Even before Obama delivered the Prague speech, which was to have been one of the focal points of the trip, it was overshadowed by the North Korean rocket launch.

Obama said Pyongyang’s move was intended as a threat to countries “near and far.”

“This action demands a response from the international community,” he told reporters.

Obama’s predecessor, President George W. Bush, faced a similar early test three months into his presidency in 2001 when a Chinese military plane collided with a U.S. electronic surveillance plane off a Hainan island.

A Chinese pilot was killed, and the U.S. plane made an emergency landing on the island. The crew was released 10 days later, and the plane was also later returned.

U.S. officials confirmed the launch just hours before Obama was to tell a crowd of thousands in the Czech Republic that the United States was ready to take steps on non-proliferation.

Aides said his call for the scrapping of all atomic weapons would lend credibility to Obama’s efforts to resolve the nuclear disputes with North Korea and Iran.

The speech in a cobbled square in Prague was meant to be an uplifting event.

A crowd, which the White House said numbered more than 20,000, cheered when Obama and his wife Michelle took the stage. Music by the Irish rock band U2 blared from speakers.

In a scene reminiscent of his presidential campaign, the event was displayed on a giant video screen.

The theme of non-proliferation was likely to resonate with audiences in Europe, where there is strong anti-war feeling.

BREAK WITH BUSH

Earlier in his trip, Obama attended a NATO summit on the border of France and Germany where he tried to persuade reluctant Europeans to contribute more to the Afghanistan war effort.

At the NATO summit and at an earlier meeting in London of the Group of 20 developed and emerging economies, Obama tried to emphasize a break with Bush, who was unpopular in Europe and was criticised for a “go-it-alone” approach to foreign affairs.

Obama’s rise to prominence in the United States was partly based on an image he cultivated as someone able to bridge political and social divides.

At the G20 summit, Obama spoke of the importance of reaching a consensus after the leaders argued over how to approach fiscal stimulus and revamping financial regulation.

At the NATO meeting, there was acrimony when Turkey objected to a push by several European countries to have Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen appointed as the alliance’s next leader.

Obama aides pointed out his role in brokering a meeting between Rasmussen and Turkish President Abdullah Gul. Turkey was persuaded to drop its objections and NATO members unanimously approved Rasmussen as secretary-general.

The next day, U.S. officials confirmed North Korea had launched a rocket. White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said he woke Obama at his Prague hotel to give him the news.

Obama will put his skills as a consensus builder to the test again as he seeks to win support in the United Nations Security Council for a response to North Korea. The council was scheduled to meet later Sunday to consider Pyongyang’s action

DDA pulls down illegal restaurant

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) on Wednesday finally demolished Vasant Kunj’s Sahara restaurant, which had come up unauthorisedly on government land. The demolition comes close on the heels of Tuesday’s order by a city court to pull down the illegal structure.

The DDA counsel had informed the court that the demolition of the restaurant was essential to further widen Aruna Asaf Ali Road. DDA spokesperson Neemo Dhar said: “Following the court order, we have demolished the structure which had illegally come up on DDA land.

” The restaurant belonged to one Vinod Khatri, a builder allegedly involved in a multi-crore bribery scam. The same case had forced then sitting Delhi High Court judge Shamit Mukherjee to resign after his name cropped up in connection with the scam.

The land, situated at a prime location in Vasant Kunj, was earmarked for a road. Khatri had allegedly encroached on the land and built the restaurant there.

The CBI had charged Mukherjee with criminal conspiracy for favouring Khatri in the Azad Singh vs DDA case, which was related to the widening of the Aruna Asaf Ali Road. Khatri had initially misled the government, stating that they had constructed one tin shelter and two small rooms on the land.

But soon he converted the tin shelter into a sprawling restaurant.

Archaeological dig uncovers rare 13th century ceramic face-mask jug in Scotland

London, Feb 12 (ANI): An archaeological dig has uncovered a rare ceramic face-mask jug dating back to the 13th century at a building site in Rothesay in Argyll, Scotland.

According to a report by BBC News, a house builder on the site of the former Rothesay Council Chambers and Sheriff Court buildings commissioned the dig.

The artefact will be surrendered to the Crown who will decide where it will be housed.

Rathmell Archaeology Ltd was commissioned to undertake a programme of archaeological works before building work commenced at the site as a condition of the planning consent.

Given the significance of the buildings and their location adjacent to Rothesay Castle, a comprehensive archaeological dig took place behind the High Street facade last October.

Fragments of other ceramics and metalwork were also unearthed.

A previous dig on the site in 2006 revealed two small sandstone walls and a compact layer of mortar interpreted as a possible floor which also contained fragments of medieval green glaze pottery.

These finds prompt this latest excavation.

“We are all excited about the findings which have been uncovered on the site,” said Alan McDougall, director of Fyne Homes.

“Although Fyne Homes are committed to redeveloping Rothesay and breathing new life into the area it is still important that we remember that it is an ancient Royal Burgh with a rich and dynamic historical past,” he added.

According to McDougall, “This excavation has given us the chance to help further our understanding of how Rothesay grew and developed.” (ANI)

Man doing nude streak at club denied entrance for six months

Melbourne, Jan 19 (ANI): A man, who stripped and did a naked dash through a sports club, has been banned from entering it again for six months.

According to The Northern Territory News, James Forrest, 37, a builder from Darwin, was served the notice by Nightcliff Sports Club.

Forrest, who has no reservations about what he has done, revealed that he had been drinking with friends at the club, and as they were leaving “the wonderful idea” struck him.

“(My friends) tried to talk me out of it … (but) I got the gear off in the car park,” News.com.au quoted him as saying.

“I left the car out there with the motor running.

“Did the quick bolt through, and did a star jump at the exit,” he said.

Forrest, who plays lawn bowls at the club, was only given the “bad news” a few days later when he returned.

A member, who didn’t want to give her name, said that the six-month ban was “ridiculous”.

“I just thought it was hilarious,” she said.

“He’s got a great body and a great personality … full of life – there’s too many sour people nowadays,” she added. (ANI)

Entrance at Detroit auto show done by Lincoln C concept car

The paint on the wheels wasn’t dark enough. The seat upholstery needed more embellishment. The instrument panel cried out for one last tweak.

For months, Ford (F) designers scrutinized the creation of their latest baby, the Lincoln C concept car of the future unveiled Monday in Detroit. Though the design was “locked” last spring, they found improvements they could make as the one-of-a-kind show car was built.

The result was revealed to reporters and photographers from around the world at the North American International Auto Show. Later this week, designers and engineers from other automakers will scrutinize the car to try to discern its secrets. Starting Saturday, the public gets a look.

“There’s nothing that gives you more elation than seeing the reaction on people’s faces once it rolls out,” says J Mays, Ford’s design chief, in talking about the C.

The Lincoln C is an attempt to show how a small car can be a luxury showpiece, thanks to elegant design and stylish details. It’s about the size of a Ford Focus, but sports a glass roof, center-opening doors and a powertrain capable of more than 40 miles per gallon on the highway.

There’s no indication that the C — a test-bed for ideas — will ever go into production. But it’s in keeping with Ford’s belief of late in a profitable future for premium small cars.

The C started life on paper and a computer screen. Then it became a full-size clay model. When the design passed muster, Ford turned over the making of the actual concept car to contract builder Aria Group in Irvine, Calif.

Aria re-created the outside by making a mold of the clay model. The interior was designed digitally. And the trick was getting the two to mesh.

Each concept car has its own “little quirks,” says Pete Gallagher, Aria’s chief project manager. In this case, it was trying to get the interior components to fit with the outside shell.

The project was helped along by having a longer build time than normal — about eight months — in which to solve the problems. In the fast-paced world of auto design, Aria’s work often involves last-minute rush jobs.

Ford designers also made changes during the construction process. At one point, they decided the car would look better with darker paint in the crevices of the wheels, said Freeman Thomas, director of Ford’s Strategic Concepts Group.

As interior design chief Gary Braddock watched the crafting of the outside of the car, he saw a way to add a flourish to the instrument panel.

The C had flowers and foliage etched into the seat upholstery after designers feared it looked too plain. Mays says the latest car designs are “so clean and modern, we’ve gotten sterile.”

The resulting C, Mays adds, is a Lincoln that can stand up to the classic simplicity of the brand’s most-admired years — 1939, 1956 and 1961. “You start to see the timelessness of a design,” he says.

The designers and builders alike were pleased with the finished car. “It came out beautiful,” Gallagher says.
