Fire kills one, three injured

New Delhi, June 5 — A person died and three others were seriously injured, after a fire broke out on Friday night in a four-storey footwear warehouse in northwest Delhi. Delhi Fire Service (DFS) officials said the incident was reported from Jai Mata Market located in Keshavpuram’s A2 block at 11.30 p.m. “The fire broke out at a storage facility located in the building’s basement and soon enveloped the entire building,” said a senior DFS official. He said four labourers, who were sleeping on the ground floor were trapped, but were rescued as soon as possible. One of them, who is yet to be identified, died after falling unconscious due to the fumes and got burnt, the official said. Eight fire tenders were called to fight the fire. Residents, however, blamed a delay in the arrival of the fire tenders for the labourer’s death.

The DFS refuted his claims. “We had to take a six-km long detour to reach the area as a flyover is being constructed near Britannia Chowk. We reached the spot as soon as possible,” a DFS official said.

Ben 10, Ninja Turtles ‘giving millions of kids nightmares’: Poll

London, May 13 (ANI): Children’s television shows like Ben 10, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Power Rangers are so violent that they give millions of under-sevens nightmares, claims a new poll.

A study of 3,000 parents for TheBabyWebsite.com claims that such programmes force children to grow up too quickly and can encourage bad behaviour.

In the study, over 70 per cent of parents said the youngsters had regular bad dreams because of programmes like Ben 10.

Also many felt broadcasters are too lenient about the content – with some shows overly violent and aggressive.

And some, like Hannah Montana, encouraged kids to grow up too fast.

According to the poll, two thirds struggle to decide which programmes are suitable for their children, reports The Sun.

They call for age certificates to be screened before programmes.

A spokeswoman said: “Violent TV contributes to nightmares.”

Ten most unsuitable shows for under-sevens: Primeval; Doctor Who; Power Rangers;

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles; Ben 10; Britannia High; Grizzly Tales for Gruesome Kids; Robin Hood; Hannah Montana; Horrid Henry. (ANI)

Wadia group buying Danone’s stake to get complete control over Britannia

After finalizing a $200 million buyout transaction with French bigwig Groupe Danone – for its equal stake in biscuit major Britannia – the Wadia group will get complete control over Britannia Industries. Danone will sell its complete 25.48 percent stake to Leila Lands, a Wadia group firm which indirectly holds a similar stake in the biscuit company.

The takeover of the biscuit joint venture company, Britannia Industries, by Wadia will bring to an end the rancorous three-year scuffle between Wadia group and Danone, as the deal will mark the complete exit of the French foods’ company.

The takeover move by Wadia comes at a fitting time for Danone, which has already sold its overseas biscuit business to Kraft Foods and wants to focus on its chief businesses of water and dairy in India.

In its Monday report to the stock exchange about the acquisition of Danone’s equal stake in Britannia, Leila Lands – a 100% subsidiary of Wadia group company Bombay Burmah Trading Company – said that the transaction will be finalized on April 14.

Talking about the “inter-se transfer” of stake, a Wadia group spokesperson said: “Leila Lands has sent a notice to the stock exchange, that is required according to the law and Sebi rules for the group to acquire Danone’s shares.”
