Singer Susan Boyle seeks duet partner

(Reuters Life!) – Scottish singer Susan Boyle, who shot to fame on a British TV talent show in 2009, is searching for a duet partner to appear on her new album.

“I thought that what I would like more than anything this year is to be able to give something back — to pass on the gift that I had been given,” the 49-year-old said on her website in advance of the announcement on Friday. Her debut album, “I Dreamed a Dream,” shot to number one in more than 20 countries, and, with nine million copies sold worldwide, was one of last year’s biggest hits.

Her follow-up will be called “The Gift.”

The competition, to be run on her official website www.susanboylemusic.com, will be open from July 9-23, and the winner will be announced on July 26.

Boyle has invited entrants to upload videos of themselves singing Christmas carol “Silent Night.”

“There are a lot of people out there who wouldn’t have the confidence or perhaps the means to enter a big competition like ‘Britain’s Got Talent’,” Boyle said of the programme that made her an international star.

“So this might be a lot less daunting for some people as they can record the song in the privacy of their own home. I’m hoping that people who have always wanted to sing will give it a try. I wish you all good luck.”

Boyle’s rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream” from the musical “Les Miserables” in April last year has been downloaded hundreds of millions of times on the YouTube video sharing site.

The church volunteer from a small town in Scotland surprised audiences and the judging panel with the power of her voice, and within days the world’s media was camping outside her modest home and turning her into a household name.

They hope the Britain’s Got Talent star will record a cameo for a festive special they have planned.

And they want Susan, 49, to serve up a lot of laughs as a school dinner lady, reports the Daily Star.

The show’s creator Ryan Murphy hopes the singer will jump at the role.

He believes show character Kurt – played by Chris Colfer, 19 – would love to revamp her look.

When asked who Susan would play, Murphy revealed: “I have two words for you: ‘Lunch. Lady.’ I think Kurt would just die to give her a Christmas makeover. I don’t know if she’s interested but it’s been pitched.” (ANI)

Simon Cowell thinks top Britain”s Got Talent acts are “drying out”

London, May 18 (ANI): X Factor star Simon Cowell has been telling his friends he fears the number of good acts on ‘Britain’ Got Talent’ are “drying out”.

Cowell, 50, was overheard confessing to friends that he felt that “the pond had been fished dry”, reports the Mirror.

The success of Susan Boyle last year and several dance acts attracted 19.2million viewers for the final and enabled ITV to make millions in ad deals.

“With well over 10 million people watching every episode this year, Britain”s Got Talent is by far the most popular programme on a Saturday night,” said an ITV spokesman. (ANI)

Dame Kiri Te Kanawa not impressed by Susan Boyle

London, May 18 (ANI): Susan Boyle, the ‘Britain”s Got Talent’ sensation, may have earned millions of fans, but Dame Kiri Te Kanawa is definitely not one of them.

Dame Kiri said she was ””not interested”” in discussing the YouTube sensation after Boyle performed it on Britain”s Got Talent last year.

According to The Telegraph, when asked about Boyle”s success with the tune from Les Miserables, which she too has performed, she told the Radio Times, ””Let”s get off that subject. Move on.

””I”m doing something classical, not whiz-bang. Whiz-bang disappears. It goes ”whiz” and then ”bang”.””

””You insult me by even wanting to bring it into this conversation. I”m not interested.

””This competition is named after me and has far more stability.

””It”s judged seriously by people with integrity who know what they”re talking about.””

About Andrea Bocelli performing opera, she said ””He did. Once. He wants to be an opera singer, but he isn”t.””

””We should talk about serious classical singers if you want to stick to the subject,” was the reply on mentioning Katherine Jenkins”s name.

””There”s Angela Gheorghiu, Renee Fleming, Anna Netrebko performing glorious, serious, grand opera without microphones. There aren”t many of us.”” (ANI)

The ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ star was onboard Upper Class section of a Virgin flight.

Apparently, the 49-year-old celebrity’s minders gave her pills to help her sleep but the medicine’s effect wouldn’t last for too long.

She allegedly walked up and down the aisle, shouting.

“The sedatives kept wearing off. It was lucky she was in the relatively small upstairs cabin, otherwise she would have disturbed the whole aircraft,” the Daily Star quoted a doctor on the flight, as saying.

A passenger on the flight said Boyle was “unbearable” and even her team of 10 minders could not keep her under control.

The onlooker said: “She was shrieking at the top of her voice and disturbing the other passengers.

“At one moment she was highly animated, then she would be in a drowsy state and helped back to her seat.

“Some of us were worried that she might do something silly because we were just outside the cockpit door.” (ANI)

The music mogul will take a more behind-the-scenes role next year because he has had enough of sitting through thousands of auditions.

Cowell claims the ITV show can easily continue without him on camera, reports The Daily Star.

Cowell said: “I am looking at whether I have a different role next year. I am considering coming just for the semi-finals. I like the show but it takes a hell of a lot of time.

“You sit there watching horrific acts and you think: ‘I genuinely can’t do this any more.’

“Can I see it working without me? Yes.”

When asked if reality star Jordan could join the show, he teased: “Well those are your words not mine. But Jordan is a friend. It’s too early to say what will happen.

“Whoever takes over has to really know what they are talking about. You have to spot a star, nurture them, mentor them.” (ANI)
