Truman Capote”s Brooklyn Heights mansion on the market for record $18M

New York, May 11 (ANI): Late American author Truman Capote”s home, in Brooklyn Heights, is set to become the most expensive townhouse in the borough”s history, after it was put on the market for 18 million dollars.

The mansion on 70 Willow St., which has 11 bedrooms and fireplaces and where Capote wrote his most famous books, has been put on the market for just the third time in 70 years.

The standing record for a Brooklyn house is just under 12 million dollars, set at the dizzying height of the real estate boom.

Realtors say the lavish, 18-room Willow St. home is expected to top that, and that brokers have already lined up several showings for international buyers and well-heeled locals wanting a shot at the historic home.

With parking for four cars, a mural copied from the Kennedy White House, a back porch and a garden like something out of a Southern estate, the mansion is touted as the finest house in the borough”s finest neighbourhood.

“It”s like living in a country estate in the middle of New York City,” the New York Daily News quoted Karen Heyman, the Sotheby”s broker selling the property.

“It takes your breath away the minute you walk in,” she described.

Built in 1839 and now in the hands of a media entrepreneur, the house was owned in the 1950s by Broadway art director Oliver Smith, who designed the famous sets for “Guys and Dolls” and “West Side Story”.

Capote said he got Smith blitzed on martinis to persuade his friend to rent him the house”s garden apartment from 1955 to 1965.

There, amid the grand Greek Revival columns and crystal chandeliers, the eccentric writer dreamed up iconic New York party girl Holly Golightly from “Breakfast at Tiffany”s”.

He also wrote “In Cold Blood”, his famous “non-fiction” novel, at the mansion.

Capote would throw extravagant parties when Smith left town, often bragging that he owned the entire property. (ANI)

Anna Friel follows Madge’s fitness technique for Breakfast At Tiffany’s

London, Aug 31 (ANI): Actress Anna Friel is apparently using the same technique as Queen of Pop Madonna, to get that perfect shape for her new role in a stage version of Breakfast At Tiffany’s.

The former Brookside star has installed a hi-tech Power Plate fitness machine outside her trailer, similar to the one that ‘Material Girl’ hitmaker uses when on a tour.

“I hate workouts and having a trainer so I had this outside my trailer,” the Daily Express quoted Friel as saying.

She added: “You stand on it and if you hold a squat it makes every muscle vibrate 40 times per second. You only have to do 10 minutes a day.”

Mentioning the funny side of her workouts, the beauty said: “People would walk past and say, ‘Oh, Anna’s at it, she’s vibrating again,’ “

Friel has recently been working on the film ‘Land Of The Lost’ too.(ANI)

The former Brookside star, who bore a striking resemblance to Hepburn, swore to add an “edge” to the character of Holly Golightly in the new stage production.

“My Holly will have a lot more rough edges than Audrey’s,” The Sun quoted her as saying.

“One of the scary things at first for me was thinking, ‘Gosh, people will assume they’re coming to see an Audrey Hepburn impression’ and that won’t be happening,” she added.

The actress, who played Hepburn in TV movie ‘The Audrey Hepburn Story’, hosted tea and dinner celebrations at the Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills – and chose old Hollywood glamour as her style for her big day.

It began with a croissant and coffee at Beverly Hills jeweller Tiffany’s, where she dressed as her heroine’s character Holly Golightly for a real breakfast at Tiffany’s.

Audrey Hepburn named Ultimate Screen Beauty

London, Feb 11 (ANI): Audrey Hepburn has pipped Angelina Jolie to land the honour of the ultimate screen beauty in a new survey.

The star of Breakfast At Tiffany’s topped the survey of Hollywood actresses through the ages, while Angelina Jolie, Keira Knightley and Halle Berry followed her in the second, third and fourth positions.

The poll of nearly 2,000 film fans put Hepburn in first place, citing her perfect bone structure and almond eyes. Jolie was second, although she was a favourite with younger voters, and Kelly was third, reports the Telegraph.

The survey was commissioned by Sky+ HD.

Nicola Moulton, beauty and health director of Vogue, said: “A great cinematic beauty by definition has to look amazing in motion, not just in pictures.

“Audrey Hepburn is clearly a timeless beauty explaining why she is the nation’s choice, though a personal favourite of mine has always been Vivien Leigh – she was not only breathtakingly beautiful but had an astonishingly expressive face.

“Unlike many actresses her expressions never run counter to her beauty, which seems an essential point of her being rather than just a quirk of genetics.”
