Ballack’s quit shock to crisis-hit Chelsea

London, Sep 5 (ANI): German playmaker Michael Ballack has landed another blow on crisis-hit Chelsea by revealing that he might quit at the end of the season.

Just hours after the Blues were banned from signing any new players until January 2011; Ballack has threatened to leave the club even shorter on bodies.

The German international midfielder, who will be 33 this month, is in the final year of his 130,000 pound-a-week Chelsea contract.

The club has not even opened talks over a new deal.

Ballack said on Friday: “I will decide after the 2010 World Cup if I will continue playing or if I will stop.”

“I will only continue as long as I still enjoy myself and have ambitions in the sport,” The Sun quoted him, as saying. (ANI)

Forgotten opener Jaques pushing for Test recall

Sydney, Aug.23 (ANI): Former New South Wales coach and Australian keeper Steve Rixon expects forgotten opener Phil Jaques to return with such vengeance this season that he puts serious pressure on the Test partnership of Simon Katich and Shane Watson.

Rixon, who is the president of Sutherland grade club where Jaques plays, said the 30-year-old left-hander still faces an anxious time in his recovery from back surgery, but if he regains full fitness he could resume his place at the top of the Australia’s batting order.

“Jaquesy will put a lot of pressure on the Test openers this season, I’ve got no doubt. ‘He’ll be opening the batting with Hughesy [Phillip Hughes] this year in the NSW side and he will be planting runs on the board to the point where he will be hard to ignore,” the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Rixon, as saying.

In his 11 Test matches, Jaques scored 902 runs at an average of 47.47, including three centuries. In his most recent Test knock, in June 2008, he scored a second-innings 108. However, he was soon dropped for the returning Matthew Hayden.

By that time Jaques’s back problems were getting worse and he came home for an operation. He attempted a comeback before last summer’s tour of South Africa, but soon required another operation.

Hughes went to South Africa instead and became the opener of choice until Watson took over after the second Ashes Test.

Jaques has since been in the background but, despite losing his Cricket Australia contract, has refused to give up on his Test career, saying in May: “All I want to do is get back on the park. When I am fit and healthy I will put scores on the board, I know that.”

Rixon agrees.

“He’s a guy that’s a run machine. All he needs is his fitness back. That’s his priority. We’re very keen to get him back into club cricket at Sutherland as quickly as possible. He’s going to work doubly hard to get his body right. Severe back problems are not something you can get over easily,” he said.

Blues selector Brian Taber will closely monitor Jaques’s progress. He confirmed that Jaques was on track to play at the beginning of the grade season late next month.

“I hope he picks up where he left off. His last Test innings was a hundred,” Taber said. (ANI)

“Fear factor” fired me to score more frequently for Chelsea, says Lampard

London, Aug 22(ANI): Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has said that the fear of being sold or knocked out of The Blues fired him up to score more frequently.

Lampard equalled Jimmy Greaves record in the club’s all time goal charts, when he scored a penalty in the 3-1 victory over Sunderland last Tuesday, taking his goals tally to 132 in his eight-year career at the club.

The 31-year-old further admitted that he never dreamed of such a strike rate when he first arrived in west London, but knew that he had to up his game when Roman Abramovich took control of the club in 2003.

“Abramovich’s first year was a big year for me, I started to score more frequently. I think it was the fear factor a bit as no one knew whether they would be sold or knocked out of the team,” The Sun quoted Lampard, as saying.

“I really took it on board,” he added.

Lampard achieved his feat in 429 matches, since joining Chelsea from West Ham United in 2001.

“It is a great honour to be up there with Jimmy Greaves, one of the all-time great goalscorers. I’m very proud. I would not have imagined I’d have got to that level when I came to Chelsea,” Lampard said.

“I’ve got my eye on who is above me. Peter Osgood and Roy Bentley are 150 – not that I’ve been looking at the stats! Kerry Dixon is 193 and Bobby Tambling is 202. That feels a long way off but I’ll keep plugging away,” he added.

Lampard has scored many memorable goals for the team, but his all-time favourite remains the strike which helped Chelsea win the 2005 Premier League title.

“My favourite goal was the one that won us the league at Bolton. It wasn’t technically the best, but it was such a special one for me and the club. I watch it now and again and when I do, it gives e shivers,” he said. (ANI)

Rolling Stones’ banned controversial docu leaked online

Washington, August 21 (ANI): A controversial documentary based on the Rolling Stones while they were touring the US in 1972 has found its way to the Internet.

The veteran rockers put a ban on ‘Cocksucker Blues’ over its content, including rock and roll antics, such as footage showing the musicians taking drugs.

The group placed a court order on the documentary, stating it could hit the screens legally only in the presence of its director photographer Robert Frank, reports Contactmusic.

But the eye-popping film emerged on FlavorWire.com’s blog on August 19.

Referring to the footage, guitarist Keith Richards once said: “If anyone in America saw it, we’d never be let in the country again.” (ANI)

Lampard vows to continue his goal scoring spree for Chelsea

London, Aug 20(ANI): Chelsea midfielder frank Lampard has promised his Chelsea fans that he will keep scoring goals after he equalled Jimmy Greaves record in the club’s all time goal charts.

Lampard’s penalty in the 3-1 victory over Sunderland on Tuesday meant he has now scored 132 goals in his eight-year career at the club. Jimmy is a goalscoring legend and I’m sure he did it in a lot less games than I did,” The Sun quoted Lampard, as saying.

“I’m very pleased to be up there with him and just want to keep on scoring for Chelsea, especially important goals that help us win games,” he added.

Lampard achieved the total in 429 matches, since joining Chelsea from West Ham United in 2001, while Greaves took just 169 appearances, scoring at a staggering rate of 0.78 goals per game in just four years between 1957 and 1961.

The 31-year-old also insisted that personal records were secondary to winning trophies with The Blues.

“Personal records are nice, but not as important as silverware. I’m much more proud of winning Premier Leagues and FA Cups with Chelsea,” Lampard said.

Lampard further said that his club would love to halt Manchester United’s run of three straight Premier League titles.

“It’s just a good start. You want to get your noses in front early on. If we don’t repeat the mid-season we had last year, then we’ll have a great chance,” he added. (ANI)

Ancelotti aims to have Chelsea players respect him

London, July 13 (ANI): Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti believes his stature as a ferocious midfielder of yore, which earned him two European Cup winner medals with A.C. Milan, would earn him the respect of his players at Stamford Bridge.

“As a player I was not always quiet. On the field I was a fighter and I didn’t want the opponent to come into my territory. Now, for me, it is about the players having respect for my position as coach,” The Sun quoted Ancelotti, as saying.

“I have to make the decisions and at the same time I have respect for the players. This is my system to bring forward a relationship,” he added.

The 50 year-old highlighted that his aim would be to motivate his players to perform well and to keep them together.

“My vision is to have players who can play well together and stay well together,” Ancelotti said.

Ancelotti expressed disappointment over Didier Drogba being banned for four Champions League games, but, said he would come back to put up a good show.

“I was a player and it can happen, where in a moment, in a game, the mind is not cold, you get carried away,” he said.

One of the major tasks in front of the new manager would be to convince captain John Terry to stay back with the Blues. (ANI)

Ancelotti claims Terry is happy to stay on at Chelsea

London, July 10 (ANI): Coach Carlo Ancelotti has insisted that skipper John Terry is happy to stay on at Chelsea.

The pair met for the first time yesterday when the skipper reported back for pre-season training.

New boss Ancelotti set out his blueprint for the future to Terry and insisted: “There is not a problem.”

Terry’s position was uncertain following a second formal bid of 30-million-pounds from Manchester City, The Sun reports.

The Blues are reported to be ready to make the 28-year-old the best-paid player at Stamford Bridge to fend off City’s assault.

A Stamford Bridge source said: “Terry’s not going anywhere. He’s been happy with the public statements that Chelsea have made.” (ANI)

Terry demands showdown talks with Chelsea owner Abramovich

London, July 8 (ANI): England and Chelsea captain John Terry is demanding showdown talks with club owner Roman Abramovich over his future.

According to The Sun, Terry is furious nobody at the club has spoken to him since Manchester City tabled a 30-million-pound bid last week.

Terry, 28, feels insulted by the Stamford Bridge silence.

“It’s unbelievable – even though he’s the club captain and one of the Blues’ most important players, senior management at the club haven’t once tried to talk to him. John wants to know what’s going on and, more importantly, whether Chelsea actually want to keep him or cash in while they have a chance,” an insider said.

Terry takes home 20,000-pounds-a-week less than his England teammate Frank Lampard (151,000-pounds-a-week).

Big-spending City are prepared to give the Three Lions skipper the wages he believes he deserves and are desperate to make him the bedrock of their new-look side.

Terry has played 272 games for Chelsea and scored 17 goals in 11 senior years at the club. (ANI)

Real Madrid to bid for Ashley Cole

London, July 4 (ANI): Spanish football giant Real Madrid are expected to bid for Chelsea star Ashley Cole, after he rejected a new deal with the Blues.

According to reports, Cole has rejected the new contract which would have left him at least 30,000 pounds-a-week short of the club’s top earners.

“Ashley loves Chelsea and is genuinely excited about working with new manager Carlo Ancelotti. He wants to give the best years of his career to the club but the deal has to be right for such an important contract,” The Sun quoted a source, as saying.

“He needs to feel as valued as any of the club’s other top players,” the source added.

Real Madrid president Florentine Perez and new manager Manuel Pellegrini would be aiming to sign Cole to strengthen their club’s defence.

Apart from Madrid, European champions Barcelona are also eying the left-wing back player who currently has a 70,000 pounds-a week contract. (ANI)

Kaka admits to snubbing Chelsea for Real

Madrid (Spain), July 1 (ANI): Brazilian star forward Kaka has admitted that he snubbed Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti because Real Madrid are ‘the biggest club in the world’.

The 62-million-pound superstar, who was paraded before 50,000 adoring fans at the Bernabeu, confessed that he could have joined the Blues when Ancelotti tried to hijack the deal.

But according to Sun Sport, Kaka, 27, said: “I thanked him for everything he did for me in all the years we spent together at Milan and all the triumphs we lived.”

“But I had made the decision a long time ago that if I left Milan I would only go to Madrid – and that meant I couldn’t join him at Chelsea,” he added.
The Brazil superstar knew his days at Milan were numbered when the San Siro giants gave him permission to speak to Manchester City back in January.

“After the season, because of the financial crisis, Milan were ready to let me go. I had offers but my desire was always to play at the Bernabeu,” Kaka said.
Kaka insisted there will not be any problems with winger Cristiano Ronaldo, who will be presented on Monday after his world-record 80 million pound move. (ANI)

Deco to leave Chelsea

London, June 28 (ANI): Chelsea midfielder Deco has confirmed that he wants to leave ‘the Blues’, following his differences with decisions taken by club owner Roman Abramovich.

“Chelsea is kind of his (Roman Abramovich) toy. Sometimes Abramovich makes decisions that go over the head of the director of football,” The Sun quoted Deco, as saying.

The Portuguese star also criticised Chelsea for chucking Luiz Felipe Scolari.

“The exit of Big Phil was rash. Chelsea is a special club. . If Big Phil was perhaps at Manchester United or Liverpool, they respect the coach and give him time to work. But Chelsea is different,” said Deco.

“Honestly, I did not like the experience at Chelsea. I’m looking for another club where I can feel good,” he added. (ANI)

New South Wales to bid for ‘boom boom’ Afridi

Sydney, June 23 (ANI): New South Wales is planning to target Pakistani batsman Shahid Afridi as its foreign import for next season’s domestic Twenty20 competition.

NSW will approach Afridi to join their team with the intention of qualifying him for the lucrative Champions League Twenty20 tournament in 2010, but he could also be used in the Sheffield Shield.

Afridi, 29, guided Pakistan to their first major cricket title in 17 years, when they defeated Sri Lanka by eight wickets in the World Twenty20 final at Lord’s on Sunday.

Afridi smashed an unbeaten 54 off 40 balls, his second consecutive half-century, to confirm his reputation as a big-match performer.

A Cricket NSW official said Afridi would bring experience and significant ability to the Blues, and the big-hitting star would also be considered for first-class and one-day games, The Sydney Morning Herald reported.

“He is clearly one of the world’s best Twenty20 players, but also he would be a valuable addition to our dressing room, our young players would learn a lot from him. We would certainly consider if he could be used for other formats,” the official said.

If the deal takes place, Afridi would become one of the highest-profile players to join an Australian side.

Afridi would heighten interest in the Big Bash if he played. Regarded as the world’s most attacking batsman, he scored 129 runs in his final three innings at the World Cup with a strike rate of 148.27 and was the force behind Pakistan’s victory. (ANI)

Chelsea to launch 50 million pound bid for Torres

London, June 21 (ANI): Chelsea is ready to test Liverpool’s resolve with a 50 million pound bid for Fernando Torres.

Carlo Ancelotti has already targeted Torres’ Spain strike partner David Villa, offering Valencia 35 million pound.

Now, the Blues boss is ready to make an audacious attempt to unite Villa and Torres at club level. iverpool manager Rafa Benitez will do all he can to block the move. But he is worried the huge sum offered by Chelsea could tempt American owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks.

Liverpool’s true financial state will be revealed over the coming weeks and Benitez is beginning to fear the worst, The Sun reports.

At the end of the season Benitez was hopeful of landing 27-year-old Villa. Now he not only has to face up to Chelsea signing Villa, but also targeting Torres.

Villa’s proposed move to Real Madrid has not gone through because Chelsea’s bid is 4 million pound higher and is preferred by debt- ridden Valencia.

Blues owner Roman Abramovich is prepared to take advantage of Liverpool’s own money worries by making the sort of offer he hopes Gillett and Hicks will not be able to refuse.t is understood a tentative inquiry was made by a third party in April about how much it would cost to prise Torres away from Anfield.

The message from Liverpool at the time was that there was no chance of Torres being sold. Then in May the 25-year-old striker signed an improved deal to 2013.

If necessary, Ancelotti and Abramovich will settle for just landing Villa. But if there is even an outside chance of snatching Torres away from Anfield, they will take it. (ANI)

Becks warns Blues about Carlos Ancelotti’s hairdryer treatment

London, May 19 (ANI): Former England captain David Beckham has told Chelsea’s stars to beware the Carlo Ancelotti hairdryer treatment.

The England midfielder warned that Ancelotti could deliver Alex Ferguson-style blasts at anyone who does not perform.

“Ancelotti has a great presence, a great aura about him – all the top managers have that. He is a low key, private person. But there is another side to him. While I have never had the ‘hairdryer’ type treatment from him I have seen it from him. When he wants to get his point across, believe me, he does it in no uncertain terms!”, The Sun quoted Beckham, as saying.

“He is a manager who commands and demands respect,” Becks added. (ANI)

Cole says Chelsea needs to toughen up

London, May 12 (ANI): Chelsea’s left-back star Ashley Cole has said that the Blues must toughen up against the top four.

Sunday’s 4-1 romp at Arsenal was the club’s first win against their big three rivals this season.

Chelsea have lost at home to the Gunners, twice to Liverpool and picked up just a point against champions-elect Manchester United.

Blues left-back Cole said: “That’s where we’ve fallen down. If you want to win titles and trophies, you have to win against the teams about you.

“It has been hard and we struggled against the top teams. But against Arsenal we got it right. They didn’t play as well as they can but we’ll take it.”

Chelsea are now likely to finish third, leaving the FA Cup final with Everton their sole shot at a pot. (ANI)

UEFA asks referee at helm of Chelsea’s knock out to refile report

London, May 10 (ANI): UEFA has asked the referee at the heart of Chelsea’s Champions League knock out has been ordered to refile his match report.

Tom Henning Ovrebo has been given an extra 72 hours to expand on his official report before UEFA bring any charges against Chelsea.

The Norwegian referee faxed his original report from his London hotel on Thursday morning before flying back home to Oslo.

But UEFA officials immediately told the psychologist, 42, that his summary was not detailed enough, News of the World reported.

Ovrebo is expected to name Chelsea stars Didier Drogba and Michael Ballack for their threatening behaviour during and after the Blues’ exit against Barcelona.

Drogba, who has apologised for his f-word tirade, is expected to be charged this week and could be banned for the entire group stage of next season’s Champions League.

Ovrebo went into hiding with his family after returning home and neighbours say they have not seen him since before Wednesday’s game.

He has contacted local media expressing a wish to talk about the incidents, but he has been gagged from speaking publicly by UEFA.

Ovrebo is due to return to domestic action on Saturday when he takes charge of a game at local club Brann Bergen.

The fact UEFA have given him more time to compile his report and asked for greater depth and detail suggests they are preparing to throw the book at Drogba and Chelsea. (ANI)
