”Despicable” woman preys on elderly men, cons them out of cash

Melbourne, Mar 27 (ANI): An Australian woman, who has been dubbed as ”despicable”, is said to be preying upon elderly men by making sexual advances towards them before relieving them of their cash.

The woman, who calls herself “Catted” and is aged in her late 30s to early 40s, has stolen hundreds of dollars from men aged in their 70s and 80s.

Police said that on each occasion she made “sexual advances” towards the men before stealing from them, and in each case, the men had recently visited a bank or ATM and withdrawn a significant amount of money.

Detective Inspector Chris Goddard said he was disgusted by the predatory nature of the crime.

“It”s quite despicable and reprehensible that people are preying on elderly members of the community,” the Daily Telegraph quoted him as saying.

So far police know of three victims but believe there may be more and want them to come forward.

“We now have three incidents we are investigating but suspect that there may be several other victims,” Insp Goddard said.

The first incident occurred on March 3 when the woman approached an 80-year-old man outside a supermarket in Oatley.

Then on March 18, the woman followed a 71-year-old man after he got off a bus at Strathfield, then she tried to grope him before taking his wallet.

Only five hours later on the same day, she befriended an 86-year-old man at a hotel in Auburn. She followed him home and made a sexual advance before stealing a large amount of cash.

Insp Goddard said police were reviewing break and enters of elderly people”s homes over the past few months to see whether the same woman was involved.

Police are also investigating whether a second woman, a 26-year-old from Strathfield arrested earlier this week over the robbery of elderly men, is connected.

Urgent appeal after woman, baby abducted

Police are seeking urgent public help to find a 11-month-old girl and a 24-year-old woman who were abducted from Wagga Wagga in the New South Wales Riverina this morning.

Detectives say that about 10.25am (AEDT) a man in a sedan with one male passenger pulled up next to the woman and baby outside a home in Titchborne Crescent in Kooringal.

The man was driving a white 1993 model Ford Fairmont sedan with NSW registration AGG28K.

Witnesses saw the man grab the woman and force her into the car.

Police say the child is missing from the scene and is believed to be in the vehicle.

The car was last seen heading west on Titchborne Crescent.

Police believe the car may have left the Wagga Wagga township and is heading west towards Narrandera or Lockhart.

They are asking the public to be on alert and report any sightings of the man or the car by dialling 000.

Buddha body relics returned to Beijing temple

New Delhi, June 26 (ANI): The relics said to be from the body of Buddha, have been returned to the Beijing Yunju Temple in China, from the Capital Museum.

The relics were welcomed by 108 monks and more than 400 Buddhists, as they returned from a underground storage room at the Capital Museum.

“I hope the traditional culture can be passed on through viewing the Buddha relics. I hope people’s hearts can be purified,” said Master Chuan Yin, who hosted the ceremony.

The relics will be exhibited until July 2 in the biggest hall of the temple, built in the Sui Dynasty (581-618).

The relics could be seen in detail via digital pictures on two large screens, according to Yun Guirong, director of the administrative office of the temple.

The corn-shaped red Buddha body relics, discovered in the Leiyin Cave of the temple on November 27, 1981, are respected as one of the “three precious” sets of relics in China.

The others are Buddha teeth relics in Beijing’s Lingguang Monastery and Buddha figure relics in the Famen Temple in Xi’an.

Buddha relics refer to the remains of Sakyamuni Buddha, founder of Buddhism, who, according to legend, left bones and 84,000 pearl-shaped relics.

Buddha relics are classified into three types: white bone relics, black hair relics and red body relics. (ANI)

Hunters begin search for Russian Yeti

London, Feb 19 (ANI): Hunters are tracking a family of Yetis after reports that the creatures are living in a mountain cave complex in a Russian town.

According to a report in the Daily Star, sightings have been made near the remote Russian mining town of Tashtagol in Siberia.

The animals are said to be more than 6ft tall with ginger-black hair and leave large, distinctive footprints that include toe marks.

“There have been reports over the years about these creatures, but the number has increased dramatically,” said Galina Pustogacheva, spokesman for the town. “We have had more than 10 sightings in recent weeks,” she added.

The creatures have been seen walking on two legs by villagers from the hamlets of Elbeza and Kabarza and tourists visiting the region around the Azass caves on Mount Shoriya.

Sightings have worried locals and forced officials to launch an expedition, led by hunters and anthropologists.

“People here are scared the creatures will attack villages because of hunger,” said Nikita Shulbayev, deputy head of the local administration.

“We made a decision to send an expedition to research this issue. We need to understand whether they are dangerous for people. We need to calm people down,” she added.

“Scientists from Kemerovo University will help us discover what the creatures are – whether they are a rare kind of bear or a surviving primate from pre-historic times,” she informed.

No photographs have been taken of the beasts.

But, according to one witness, “The creature reminds me of a bear. In his footprints, one can clearly see toes. He is 1.5 to two metres high. He is covered with red and black hair and can climb trees.” (ANI)
