South Africa (Reuters) – Colombian pop star Shakira taught children in South Africa’s biggest black township dance moves to the official World Cup song on Wednesday and called for the tournament’s legacy to be education for all.

The Grammy-award winning singer-songwriter will join other music stars including Black Eyed Peas and Alicia Keys to perform at a concert on Thursday, the eve of the start of the first World Cup tournament on the African continent.

Shakira, a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations childrens’ organization UNICEF, visited Isu’lihle Primary School in Soweto as part of her philanthropic work to highlight the need to educate the young.

“It’s (World Cup) a great opportunity to bring all the attention to issues as important as education,” Shakira told reporters while touring the school.

“Seventy-two million kids around the world (are) not able to attend school, of which 32 million are African. So this is our chance to make this World Cup’s lasting legacy education for all.”

Shakira, best known for her hit singles “Hips Don’t Lie” and “Whenever, Wherever” will sing the official World Cup anthem “Waka Waka (This time for Africa)” with local music group Freshly Ground at the concert.

Josh Duhamel, Fergie marriage ‘stronger than ever’

London, May 18 (ANI): Actor Josh Duhamel admits his relationship with wife Fergie has ‘changed so much’ over the years.

The Transformers star— who was last year accused of cheating on the Black Eyed Peas star with a stripper — insists their six-year marriage is ‘stronger than ever’.

“(The love) ebbs and flows. Fergs and I have been together for six years and our relationship has changed so much. I mean, the first three months, well, there”s nothing like it,” the Daily Star quoted him as telling Company magazine.

“But, after six years, our marriage is stronger than ever, and it can get even better… I believe in love, for sure. I don”t think there”s any doubt that love is real, but there are different levels,” he added. (ANI)

Cheryl Cole now wants the ‘sex factor’

London, May 13 (ANI): X Factor judge Cheryl Cole has told pals that now that she’s finally over love rat hubby Ashley, she’s ‘gagging for it’.

“Cheryl has had the dancers on tour in hysterics telling them in her broad Geordie accent that she”s ”gagging for it”.

“Sex was the last thing on her mind when she was coming to terms with her relationship ending.

“But now she”s over it, she wants a smile back on her face,” The Sun quoted a source as saying.

The singer, who is on a tour with the Black Eyed Peas, has no dearth of admirers – Black Eyed Peas star will.i.am, boxing champ Amir Khan, JLS singer Aston Merrygold and American dance star Derek Hough – they all have a soft corner for her.

‘Smitten’ will.i.am calls Cheryl Cole ‘wifey’

London, May 10 (ANI): Black Eyed Peas singer will.i.am has revealed how besotted he is with Girls Aloud member Cheryl Cole, who he apparently refers to as wifey, and says needs rescuing.

will.i.am, 35, real name Williams James Adams Jr, said that Cheryl’s husband Ashley was stupid to cheat on her, and that from now onwards he will be there for her whenever she needs him.

“She needs rescuing after all she’s been through and I’m the man to do it,” the Daily Star quoted him as saying.

“The way Ashley treated her was just stupid and she knows I will always be there for her now.

“If she’s in New York I will get a flight straight away to see her. If she’s in LA I’ll get on a flight there. I’ll even come to London if she wants me to.

“Whenever she needs me she knows I’m straight there, no excuses,” he said.

Troubled Cheryl, 26, who describes the hip-hop star as her “fairy god-father”, appears to have found a loyal friend in Will, though she remains undecided about whether to divorce Ashley.

But Will is keen to prove to Cheryl that he can be trusted.

“She isn’t the type of girl who’d go out there flaunting it. She’s a real good girl. When you get a girl like that you do what you can to keep her,” he said.

“To get a girl that’s hot who knows how to conduct herself is a rare thing. You’d have to be stupid to jeopardise that,” he stated.

The rapper has even been bragging to his fans that Cheryl is his “wifey”.

“When I chatted to Will at a London club, he kept calling Cheryl his ‘wifey’,” a fan revealed.

“It’s obvious that he’s besotted by her,” the fan added. (ANI)

Cheryl Cole’s mum gives will.i.am stamp of approval

London, May 7 (ANI): Girls Aloud member Cheryl Cole has taken her friendship with Black Eyed Peas rapper will.i.am to another level – by introducing him to her mother who gave him her approval.

will.i.am, 35, met Joan, 50, on May 5 for drinks after Cheryl, 26, supported the Black Eyed Peas at London’s O2 Arena.

The meeting between the three went so well that the rapper promised Joan he will take care of Cheryl, and he also praised the way she has been brought up.

“Joan is a great lady. You can see why Cheryl is such a good girl, she gets it from her mum,” the Sun quoted him as saying.

“Cheryl’s mum is behind our friendship.

“I think anybody that will look after her little girl and protect her – after the last few months she has had – is only a good thing in her mum’s eyes.

“The most important thing for Cheryl at the moment is to have a man around her who she can trust and who makes her laugh. I promised mum that’s what I’m doing.

“We couldn’t ask for a better supporting act than Cheryl, the crowd absolutely love her and she really is a princess in the British peoples’ eyes.

“I am having a great time working with her, but I already knew that I would anyway. We are having a great time during the show, but also a great time after,” he added.

Will, who worked with Cheryl on her debut solo album 3 Words, has made no secret of his feelings for the Girls Aloud star.

“Cheryl turned up with her mum after Will had arrived,” an onlooker at the Bacardi VIP bar said.

“He spent some time talking to Joan, who came to watch her perform.

“She obviously got on with Will, so she seems to approve of the friendship,” the onlooker stated. (ANI)

‘I Gotta Feeling’ named best-selling digital song of all time

London, May 7 (ANI): Black Eyed Peas track ‘I Gotta Feeling’ is the best-selling digital song of all time, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

According to the information system that tracks sales of music and music video products throughout the United States and Canada, the track spent 14 weeks at the top of the US music chart.

What’s more, it sold 5.56 million digital downloads, according to The Mirror.

It pipped Flo Rida”s Low, which previously held the record with 5.53 million since March 2008, reports the BBC.

Lady Gaga”s Just Dance secured the third spot with 5.36 million sales while another Black Eyed Peas number, Boom Boom Pow, is the fourth best-selling digital song.

Lady Gaga”s Poker Face completes the top five with 5.13 million sales. (ANI)

Will.i.am, Cheryl Cole to spend Easter together in L.A?

London, March 31, (ANI): ‘Black eyed peas’ star Will.i.am and Cheryl Cole will reportedly spend Easter together.

Cole was reportedly been invited by Will.i.am to spend Easter with his family in Los Angeles.

“He asked her to fly out to Los Angeles. He’s having a big family get-together and he wants her there,” the Daily Star quoted a source as saying.

Both the singers have the experience of working together earlier and Cheryl is due to share the stage with Black Eyed Peas at a concert to start off the World Cup in Johannesburg in June. (ANI)

Cheryl Cole says she’d love to work with Will.i.am forever

London, March 24 (ANI): Cheryl Cole has said that she would love to work with Black Eyed Peas rapper Will.i.am for the rest of her life.

The Girls Aloud star said that the 34-year-old music producer was ‘absolutely inspiring, fantastic, futuristic, creative’.

“I would work with Will for the rest of my life if I could,” the Daily Star quoted her as saying.

“He is everything you would want from a producer, and also from a person. He’s a lovely person.

Becks to host Kick-Off Celebration gig of World Cup?

London, Mar 23 (ANI): English footballer David Beckham may host the Kick-Off Celebration concert in South Africa on the first night of the World Cup.

Beckham, 34, who had to stay out of the tournament due to injury, is said to have been invited to be a major presenter of the huge music show on June 10 in Soweto, Johannesburg.

Kevin Wall, the organiser of the concert, has only hinted publicly that football stars will be taking part in the show.

“We are using soccer icons throughout the show. We will have some major celebrities acting as hosts,” the Sun quoted him as saying.

“We have just started negotiations with a famous UK footballer who is now not playing in the World Cup,” he stated.

The concert, at the 40,000-capacity Orlando Stadium, near where Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu grew up, will star Alicia Keys, Black Eyed Peas and Shakira and is expected to have a global audience of more than one billion. (ANI)

DJ AM to be memorialised at Winter Music Conference

New York, Mar 20 (ANI): Late American club DJ/musician DJ AM will be memorialised on T-shirts at the Winter Music Conference.

Zev Norotsky’s Fluent clothing line will debut them on March 26 at a party New York club Pacha is throwing at Parkwest in South Beach, where Black Eyed Peas’ will.i.am will play, reports the New York Post.

The tops cost 28 dollars and all proceeds will go to the DJ AM Memorial Fund.

DJ AM, whose real name is Adam Goldstein, died last year after an accidental drug overdose. (ANI)

Peas, Keys among stars for World Cup concert

The Black Eyed Peas, Shakira and Alicia Keys will be among scores of music stars performing at a concert on the eve of the soccer World Cup in South Africa.

The June 10 concert in a 30,000-capacity stadium in Soweto will be broadcast live to millions of people across the world.

“We are thrilled to have a concert of such magnitude and performing talent raise the curtain on the first FIFA World Cup in Africa,” FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke said in a statement.

“It is testament to the universal and unifying power of football and music and will start the competition off on the right note – of celebration.”

Among other performers at the concert will be African musicians including Benin-born diva Angelique Kidjo, Amadou and Mariam from Mali, South African group The Parlotones and Tuareg desert blues band Tinariwen.

Net proceeds from the concert will go to 20 Centres for 2010 – FIFA’s official social campaign for the World Cup, aimed at achieving positive change in Africa through football.

Ashley, Cheryl Cole ‘had row over will.i.am before split’

London, Mar 15 (ANI): Ashley Cole had a row with wife/singer Cheryl over Black Eyed Peas member will.i.am before the soccer star’s extra-marital affair was exposed, it has emerged.

Recently Will, who had selected Cheryl as a dancer for his Heartbreaker video in 2008, expressed his desire to hang out with Cheryl, reports the Sun.

He said: “I”d move to London if it meant being with her. She”s a beautiful girl. I can”t wait to hang out with her more.”

A source said: “Will.I.Am”s comments about his wife are not news or a surprise to Ashley. He and Cheryl rowed about it last year.”

The insider added: “She”s done absolutely nothing wrong but Ashley”s sick of this man openly making advances toward his missus.”

Beyonce to finally perform in Malaysia next month

Kuala Lumpur, Sep 19 (ANI): Beyonce Knowles is all set to perform in Kuala Lumpur next month, two years after cancelling her Malaysian concert.

Kuala Lumpur is one of her destinations in the ‘I Am…’ world tour which spans North America, Europe and Asia.

The ‘Baby boy’ singer is scheduled to stage her first concert in Malaysia at the National Stadium, Bukit Jalil, at 8pm on Oct 25, reports the Star Online.

The singer was originally slated to perform in Malaysia in 2007, but cancelled her concert following protests from PAS Youth and she headed for Jakarta instead.

The world tour comes with the release of her third studio album, ‘I Am… Sasha Fierce’, which features hits like ‘If I Were a Boy’, ‘Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)’, ‘Halo’, ‘Sweet Dreams’ and ‘Broken-Hearted Girl’.

Beyonce, along with Black Eyed Peas and Jacky Cheung, will also perform at F1 ROCKS Singapore with LG on Sept 26. (ANI)
