Hilton slams allegations of failing to promote movie in court

London, Jul 13 (ANI): After being accused of failing to fully promote her 2006 movie flop ‘Pledge This!’, socialite Paris Hilton took to the stand in a court in Miami, Florida, on July 10 to slam the allegations.

When she arrived at the court, the 28-year-old hotel heiress was dressed in a black dress and high stilettos, and she even gave the judge a cheeky wave.

The hotel heiress told the courtroom that the film’s failure had nothing to do with her, insisting that promotional work for her ventures was hugely important to her.

“If I have my name attached to something, I want it to be as big as it can be,” the Daily Star quoted her as having told Judge Federico Moreno.

Hilton went on to admit that by the time it was expected for her to promote the DVD release of the film, she was already booked up for rehearsals for her next film, ‘The Hottie and The Nottie’ in 2008. (ANI)

‘Supercool’ Paris Hilton charms judge during 8M dlrs lawsuit

New York, July 11 (ANI): Paris Hilton appeared to have worked her charms on a judge while testifying in a 8.3 million dollar lawsuit filed against her by movie investors.

The hotel heiress has been accused her of turning her back on promotional duties for the 2006 comedy, “Pledge This!”, a box office bomb that made just 2.9 million dollars.

The lawsuit claims the socialite disliked the movie, and pulled out of talk shows and radio and magazine interviews for the film in violation of her contract with the investors, reports the New York Daily News.

The 28-year-old jetted in from Dubai to Miami, sporting six-inch stiletto heels and a black dress, to appear for the case.

Paris said that she met her contract’s requirements and promoted the movies extensively, adding that the producers made “unreasonable demands” on her when her schedule was already full.

The star surprised Chief U.S. District Judge Federico Moreno by giving him a little wave before taking the stand.

The judge cracked: “I’ve never had a witness wave at me before.”

At one point, Paris was testifying about how full her dates were during rehearsals for her next movie, The Hottie and The Nottie,” when Moreno interrupted: “Was it better than this one?”referring to “Pledge This!”

“It was really good,” Hilton replied with a giggle. (ANI)

Tamil diaspora observes Friday as black day

TORONTO: The Tamil diaspora will mark Friday as a black day to mourn those killed by the Sri Lankan forces, the Canadian Tamil Congress said here on Thursday.

“In conjunction with the Tamil populations in Europe, the Canadian Tamils will observe Friday as a black day. We estimate that more than 25,000 innocent civilians have been killed by the Sri Lankan forces and many more displaced,” said Canadian Tamil Congress spokesman David Poopalapillai.

He said the 300,000-strong community will wear black dress to mourn the “victims of the Sri Lankan genocide.”

Poopalapillai said Tamil communities in Europe will gather in major cities to share their sorrow and mourn their dead.

“In Toronto, we will gather at the Ontario provincial assembly in the heart of city for a condolence meeting.

“Many non-Canadian speakers and our sympathizers will speak during the daytime. In the evening, we will observe a candle-light vigil till 9 pm”

The Tamil leader said, “The brutal Sri Lankan regime has no regard for the displaced civilians. We will appeal to the international community to pressure Colombo to let in food, clothing and other basic amenities to the displaced people.”

Meanwhile, Canadian foreign minister Lawrence Cannon and international cooperation minister Bev Oda on Thursday appealed to Sri Lanka “to allow full, safe and unhindered humanitarian access to all civilians affected by the conflict in that country and to ensure the safety and security of humanitarian workers.”

The two ministers said Sri Lanka must ensure immediate humanitarian assistance for the affected people.

They said Sri Lanka must also allow freedom of movement to internally displaced people and facilitate their return to their homes “in safety and with dignity as soon as possible.

“We urge the Government of Sri Lanka to ensure that the protection of and assistance for internally displaced persons are consistent with international standards.”

The Canadian ministers asked Colombo to immediately launch a political process to “ensure that all the people of Sri Lanka can live in safety and receive the full protection of their human rights and fundamental freedoms.”

Goodrem too sick for Melbourne’s F1 Grand Prix, but not so for clubbing

Melbourne, Mar 31 (ANI): Aussie singer Delta Goodrem has left many baffled with her no show at the Australian F1 Grand Prix due to illness, only to be spotted later clubbing late into the night.

Goodrem, 24, was supposed to sing the national anthem, and she left many of her fans disappointed after she said that she was suffering from a sore throat and a case of laryngitis.

The singer, who was spotted hitting the Melbourne nightclubs just hours after she backed out of the show, was with her boyfriend Brian McFadden, Molly Meldrum and MTV presenter Ruby Rose.

“She was all glammed up in a black dress and black leggings,” News.com.au quoted a source as saying.

“She didn’t look sick at all, she looked amazing.

“(She was) seriously lacking in gig etiquette and not suffering from a lost voice, because she talked all the way through the set,” the source said.

Goodrem threw GP organisers into a spin when she pulled out of singing the anthem at 11.40am, saying that she had laryngitis.
“We were disappointed that Delta cancelled on the day, but were delighted Jade McCrae could perform at such short notice. She was fantastic and the crowd loved her,” GP spokeswoman Alison Wright added.

Goodrem’s publicist yesterday declined to explain the singer’s night on the town. (ANI)

Jungle theme at Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week

New Delhi, Mar 21 (ANI): Renowned designer Manish Arora turned the ramp into a fantasy jungle, inhabited by imaginary birds and animals at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week. It’s all jungle but in a very modern way. I probably visualise it in my own mind and which I want to share it with you guys,” said Manish.

Dressed in psychedelic creation, the models set the ramp on fire as the audiences could not help, but gaze in awe at the wildly inventive designer’s creation.

A caterpillar crawling down a bodice and a bird of paradise perched on the shoulder of a black dress; Manish’s creation simply floored the audience.

Other wacky creation included a stag’s head sprouted from a red and gold micro-tunic, handbags were shaped like gorillas and lions.

The designer also revealed that his next collection would also be with the same basic theme but the execution would be different.

When asked as to why he chose the same theme for both Paris Fashion Show and for the Wills Lifestyle Fashion Week, Manish said that he wanted people to know and see what he is showcasing outside India as it is here where he belongs.

The audience cheered and whoops of delight echoed over the booming sound-track of Oscar winning movie Slumdog Millionaire’s ‘Jai Ho’. (ANI)

Rod Stewart finally sees a potential singer in daughter Ruby

London, Mar 07 (ANI): Legendary rocker has finally been able to carve out a potential singer in daughter Ruby, after he gave her a lecture on how to enhance her soulful voice.

A while ago Rod gave his daughter Ruby a tongue lashing about how great her voice was and how she was a little too “cocky” to be in the music business, but she wouldn’t listen to anything that her old dad said.

And it seems that his admonishment has finally paid off, as Ruby recently accompanied father Rod on his Bangkok tour and belted out few songs onstage.

“Rod said Ruby was going to sing a few songs to take the strain off him a bit. She duly took centre stage and belted out a few soul classics including the Fontella Bass song Rescue Me – and boy, can she sing,” the Daily Express quoted a source as saying.

“She looked amazing in a tight black dress, towering heels and flowing hair – clearly a chip off the old block. Ruby really brought the house down and when Rod reappeared on stage he was all misty eyed and told the audience how much he loved Ruby and how proud he was of her,” the source added.

Ruby is glad that she has her talented father to guide her, and help her bring out her ability to sing.

“Clearly she’s decided that if she does want to make her way in the music business, there is no better way than to learn from the master!” the source said. (ANI)

Sleeveless dress to be Michelle Obama’s signature style during White House stint

New York, February 28 (ANI): The White House has released an official portrait of Michelle Obama featuring her clad in a sleeveless black shift dress by noted American designer Michael Kors, which will typify her signature style during her stint as U.S. First Lady.

According to reports, Michelle’s dress in the portrait is a black version of a red gown in bonded crepe jersey, which was shown in Kors’s spring 2009 show ‘Project Runway’, on the back of which he became one of the most visible designers.

A spokesman for Kors refused to reveal how much money was charged for the black dress made for Michelle.

He, however, did reveal that Chicago retailer Ikram Goldman, who has played an important role in developing the first lady’s style, was the one who helped select the dress.

He said that Goldman approached Kors, and asked for some items for Michelle.

“We had no knowledge of where and when the pieces would be worn,” the New York Times quoted the spokesman as saying. (ANI)

Now, Malia and Sasha Obama have become fashion icons

Melbourne, Jan 20 (ANI): After the election of Barack Obama to the White House, his whole family has come to the notice of the public, with his two daughters now becoming fashion icons.

Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7, have gone through a big wardrobe change in the two years since their father’s presidential campaign began, and they have now turned trend-setters with their attires having a huge influence on the market, reports News.com.au.

The two have been dubbed as the “First Daughters of Fashion”, and retailers claim that they have sold out many dresses of the same kind worn by them during their father’s election campaign.

The black dress Sasha wore as she listened to her father’s victory speech, described as ‘classic’ and ‘elegant’ in the media, was a particular hit.

The outfit, once known as the ‘crystal pleat social dress’, has now been named the ‘Sasha’.

It was not just the formal attires that had an influence on the market, but the normal everyday wear too.

Sasha’s hooded jumper, decorated with a peace sign, sold out at department store Bloomingdale’s in days, when she was seen wearing it to school. (ANI)
