Halle Berry ends pregnancy rumours with sexy look on TV

Washington, Sep 18 (ANI): Putting all speculations about her pregnancy to rest, Halle Berry appeared with a sexy look on TV in America on Thursday.

The ‘Monster’s Ball’ star arrived on The Jay Leno Show wearing a revealing black mini-dress and thigh-length boots.

And the 43-year-old actress was hoping that the outfit would be enough to end speculation she’s expecting a second child.

Talking to host Leno, Berry said that the pregnancy talk is beginning to give her a “complex”.

“I was like, ‘I gotta stop with the burgers, or something,’” Contactmusic quoted her as saying. (ANI)

Migrating birds chill at stopovers to save energy

Washington, September 11 (ANI): In a new research, scientists have suggested that migrating birds drop their body temperature at night during stopovers to save energy and build up their reserves faster.

Scientists Michal Wojciechowski and Berry Pinshow carried out the research.

Collecting migrating blackcaps at their stopover site on the Sede Boqer Campus of Ben-Gurion University and near Toron, Poland, Wojciechowski and Pinshow weighed the birds and monitored their body temperatures and metabolic rates as the birds stocked up on fruit supplemented with mealworms.

During the day, the birds’ body temperatures hovered around 42.5 degrees Celsius, but as dusk fell, their temperatures began to drop.

The average normal body temperature at night was about 38.8 degrees C, while one particularly skinny individual’s temperature plummeted to 33 degrees C.

When the team plotted the birds’ body masses against their nocturnal temperatures, the smaller birds’ temperatures correlated with their body masses.

Finally, the team looked at the relationship between the birds’ temperatures and their metabolic rates and found that the heavier birds dropped their metabolic rates least, while the lightest birds dropped their metabolic rates most.

Some conserved a remarkable 30 percent of their energy by becoming hypothermic.

Knowing that small birds also conserve energy by huddling together for warmth, Wojciechowski and Pinshow suggest that migrating birds may combine both strategies to shorten refuelling stopovers to fatten up fast before hastening on their way. (ANI)

Megan Fox not to play Catwoman

Cricket legends upset over ‘overcooked’ Oval pitch

London, Aug.22 (ANI): Former cricketers have criticized the curator of the pitch at The Oval for creating a surface solely for the purpose of ensuring a result in the fifth and final Ashes Test.

By the close of play on day two, 23 wickets had fallen and Australia trailed by 230 runs.

Former West Indies fast bowler Michael Holding was scathing in his assessment of the playing surface.

“I am very disappointed in this pitch. I have never been to The Oval and seen the ball going through the top (of the pitch) like this. Even on day one we have seen this. I played here back in 1976 – in one of the hottest summers ever in England – and it didn’t play like this. It can’t be the weather,” Fox Sports quoted former West Indian fast bowler Michael Holding, as saying.

Scyld Berry, editor of cricket ‘bible’ Wisden, took aim at a pitch “as pale as a supermodel on an unhealthy diet”.

The Oval has the reputation of being a wonderful batting strip. With consistent pace and bounce, it usually encourages attractive stroke play. It can also encourage high-scoring draws, which is just what England does not want.

Shane Warne offered the bluntest, simplest assessment, that groundsman Bill Gordon, had “overbaked it a little bit to make sure there is a result”.

Gordon should know a thing or two about pitches. He has been on The Oval ground staff since 1974. (ANI)

Bond girl Ursula Andress named ultimate ‘Bikini Goddess’

London, Aug 20 (ANI): Former Bond girl Ursula Andress has been named the ultimate ‘Bikini Goddess’ in a new poll of British women.

The poll of 1,000 women, conducted to celebrate the 60th birthday of the bikini, revealed that Andress’ figure is the one they would most like to emulate.

Andress, who played diver Honey Ryder in the first Bond film in 1962, was followed in the poll by Kelly Brook, Brigitte Bardot and Dame Helen Mirren.

According to women in the survey, Elle Macpherson has the best legs, Halle Berry has the most attractive face and Kelly Brook has the best breasts.

The poll also showed that nine out of 10 women dread wearing a bikini on the beach.

“It shows curves are not just appreciated by men but that it is women who feel this is the look they should aim for and not just try to be thin,” the Daily Express quoted Holly Chaves, of Gillette Venus Embrace, which ran the poll, as saying. (ANI)

MJ’s coffin moved to basement of Forest Lawn Memorial Park

London, July 14 (ANI): Late Michael Jackson’s coffin has been secretly moved in Motown founder Berry Gordy’s private crypt at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, according to the sources.

The Jackson family decided to move the casket after the Thriller hitmaker’s fans started gathering try and get a look at the coffin.

“The Jackson family was not pleased and ordered the casket to be placed in the basement for security reasons,” the Sun quoted a source as saying.

The source also revealed that Michael’s sister LaToya, in charge of her brother’s body, picked out everything he wore in the viewing casket.

The 50 year old singer, who apparently died of the cardiac arrest, was wearing two black gloves, black trousers studded with black beads, a pearl-beaded white jacket he wore to the Grammys, and an over-sized gold belt that resembled a championship boxing belt.

Michael’s signature white glove has also been placed in the casket. (ANI)

MJ’s body stored in LA crypt until family decides what to do with his remains

New York, July 10 (ANI): If reports are to be believed, late King of Pop Michael Jackson’s kin have stored his body in Motown maestro Berry Gordy’s crypt in the Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles, until they sort out what to do with the superstar’s remains.

Sources have revealed that Jackson’s brother Jermaine and father Joseph are insistent the Gloved One be buried at Neverland Ranch so that the family can profit from a proposed Graceland-style museum there, a process that may take years.

“Jermaine is the one that wants him at Neverland-he and Joseph — because of the whole Elvis thing and the money potential. They are seeing dollar signs,” the New York Post quoted a family source as saying.

On the other hand, adds the source, Jackson’s mother Katherine and most of his siblings want that his body be laid to rest elsewhere out of respect for his wish, following his acquittal on child-molestation charges, to never return to Neverland.

The source says that her son’s physical purgatory has left Katherine shaken.

“She is still upset that Michael isn’t buried and he is at Gordy’s spot in Forest Lawn. This fighting has to stop. We can never unite, and that’s an injustice,” the source said.

The newspaper report suggests that the fight between the clan has become so contentious that Jermaine rode in a separate Rolls-Royce limousine to Jacko’s public memorial at Los Angeles’ Staples Center, even though his mother had wanted all the brothers to ride together.

Meanwhile, most of the kids and Katherine are said to be onboard with a proposed documentary about the family, which can earn them 20 million dollars.

“They’re doing this documentary because with the kids, they will get 20 million dollars,” the source said, adding that Katherine was pushing all her children to be a part of it. (ANI)

Music historian assesses Jacko as ‘pivotal figure in US music history’

Washington, June 28 (ANI): A music historian has assessed Michael Jackson’s musical greatness, classifying him as “one of the world’s great entertainers and a pivotal figure in the history of American music.”

John Covach, professor of music and chair of the Department of Music at the University of Rochester and professor of music theory at the Eastman School of Music, reacted to the King of Pop’s shock death on June 25.

He said: “Michael Jackson is arguably the most important figure in 1980s popular music. Though he got his start as a child singing a series of hits in the 1970s with his brothers in the Jackson 5, Jackson’s ascent to the status of The King of Pop occurred as a solo artist.

“The 1982 album Thriller was one of the biggest albums the music business had ever witnessed, containing several top hits, including “Billy Jean” and “Beat It.” As impressive as the music on that record is (thanks in no small part to the production mastery of Quincy Jones), it was the videos that made the strongest impact.

“In fact, the power and popularity of Jackson’s videos to “Thriller,” “Beat It,” and Billie Jean” helped MTV to rise as a force in the music industry, even as it helped Jackson sell more records. It was a symbiotic relationship that changed popular music forever.

“Jackson’s career touched on so many important aspects of pop-music history in the second half of the 20th century. Signed initially to Motown by Berry Gordy Jr., the Jackson 5 became a kind of bubblegum version of the Temptations, continuing the crossover tradition with catchy songs and choreographed dance steps.

“As the hippie rock of the 1970s was challenged by punk, new wave, and disco late in the decade, nobody was better positioned than Michael Jackson to bring together well-produced music with exceptional and exciting dance steps. His Off the Wall album of 1979 certainly ranks as one of the best records to come out of the disco years.

“Younger fans of pop music may have to be reminded how incredibly powerful Michael Jackson’s music was in the 1980s. More than that, Jackson defined “cool” during those years. The single glove, his patented moonwalk step, that slightly rebellious yet gentle demeanor-all this youthful charm slipped away over time, as it does for all of us.

“But at the height of his powers, Michael Jackson was one of the world’s great entertainers and a pivotal figure in the history of American music. That’s how he should be remembered.”

Covach has authored “What’s That Sound? An Introduction to Rock and Its History” and has also been the co-editor of “Understanding Rock.” (ANI)

Lonely Halle Berry made friends online to feel ‘normal’

London, May 27 (ANI): Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry has admitted that she has used the Internet to find friends.

The actress finds fame lonely, and used websites to meet people and have “normal” conversations, away from Hollywood.

“I never went so far as a date. But I’ve gone online and pretended to be someone else, in an attempt to have some anonymity,” the Daily Express quoted her as saying.I’ve tried, many times, to have a normal conversation when celebrity wasn’t a part of it. Sometimes it worked and at others it became a little weird.

“The reason I did it was I wanted to remember what it was like to have a real, honest exchange with someone and to be treated normally,” she added. (ANI).

Halle Berry says paparazzi doesn’t let her be herself

New Delhi, May 20 (ANI): Hollywood actress Halle Berry has revealed that the constant pressure from the paparazzi doesn’t let her be herself, as they are always pinpointing flaws in her appearance.

Berry revealed that the hounding papparazi does not let her enjoy being normal, as whenever she is spotted without the greasepaint, they put her in a bad clothes or a bad skin list, reports the China Daily.

“All these paparazzi are just out of control, it has added a new pressure. When you just want to go out and be a normal person you get put on that bad clothes list. Or it’s like, ‘Look, she’s got a zit,’ and they zero in on it. Or it’s, ‘Look, she’s got cellulite,’ and they zero in on that. They make you feel like you can’t go out and be a normal girl. I try to resist it and go out without my make-up even though I know I am going to be on that list,” Berry said.

Berry has earlier also emphasized that the scrutinizing media doesn’t let her feel liberated, and when she was pregnant with her daughter Nahla, she felt very enlightened because she didn’t have to worry about looking thin.

“It was the first red carpet that I’ve really walked down where I didn’t have to think about holding in my stomach. t’s the first time I’ve been to an awards show where they served a meal and I actually ate it. I was eating off everybody else’s plate and that felt very liberating and good,” Berry added. (ANI)

Shooting of ‘Total Ten’, film on Mumbai terror attacks underway

Mumbai, Apr 23 (ANI): On location shooting of forthcoming Bollywood film ‘Total Ten’ is underway in Mumbai.

The film would star Rajan Verma, who essays the role of Ajmal Amir Kasab, the lone terrorist caught alive during the Mumbai terror attack in November 2008.

Produced by Hari Om Sharam, Anand Pandrey and Kumar, Total Ten is budgeted at a meagre Rs. 3 crore and shows the journey of Kasab from Pakistan to the trial court in Mumbai.

The other actors performing the movie are Sudesh Berry, who plays Vijay Salaskar (former Senior Police officer and encounter specialist), Homi Wadia, who plays Hemant Karkare (former Chief of Mumbai anti-terrorist squad), Ashok Kulkarni, who plays Ashok Kamte (former Additional Commissioner of Mumbai police) and Ashish Vidyarthi, who plays Tukaram Ombale (former assistant sub-inspector of Mumbai Police).

All these brave men were killed while fighting the terrorists in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.

Describing the theme of his movie, Surendar Suri said that Total Ten was a tribute to these Mumbai police officers who paid the ultimate price while fighting for their countrymen.

“The title of the film ‘Total Ten’ if you read then you will come to know that there were only ten Mumbai police officers who got Ashok Chakra (bravery awards) and only those people get Ashok Chakra who have performed some heroic deeds. So this film is my tribute to their bravery,” said Suri.

Rajan Verma said he believes that the movie will give a message to those youngsters who have gone off track but not to trod the path of terrorism.

“This is not a mere film but it’s a message from those terrorists who are churned out of so called terror factories. We don’t have to finish one terrorist but we have to close those terror factories. And these terror factories will stop when the raw material (the youngsters) supplied to them is stopped. Through this film I have to give a message to those youngsters who have gone astray not to become terrorists,” said Verma.

Kasab was one of 10 gunmen who arrived in Mumbai last November via sea route from Pakistan to terrorise the city, killing 166 people. By Shaikh Sharik (ANI)

An Indian diabetic cure for Hollywood star Halle Berry

New Delhi, April 18 (ANI): With an Oscar statuette under her belt, Hollywood is at Halle Berry’s feet. However, life has never been a bed of roses for this brilliant actress, as she has had to battle one of the world’s most common illnesses – diabetes.

Now, a well known diabetologist, Dr. Vikas Alhuwalia, believes that he has a special program that may help Berry to bring her diabetic condition under control.

“I would be more than happy to help superstars like Berry who I am told have suffered from diabetes,” said Dr. Alhuwalia.

It was in 1989, during the taping of the short-lived television series ‘Living Dolls’, that Berry lapsed into a coma and was diagnosed with diabetes, a condition that now affects an estimated 24.1 million people in the United States and over 30 million in India.

As the prevalence of and progression to diabetes continues to increase, diabetes-related morbidity and mortality have emerged as major public health care issues.

People with diabetes are vulnerable to multiple and complex medical complications. These complications involve both cardiovascular disease (heart disease, stroke) and peripheral vascular disease) and microvascular disease.

Dr. Alhuwalia wants to tackle the illness head-on, and says that in India he has launched diabetes awareness camps.

He told ANI that these awareness camps are being held in cooperation with senior citizen associations on a monthly basis.

Dr. Alhuwalia said that the objective behind the drive is to come forward and interact with experts like himself to understand the dangers posed by diabetes to all age groups.

“Nowadays, people are picking up diabetes at an early stage. We need to identify who has the disease, especially in the case of youngsters. Earlier, we use to deal with diabetics who were in their 40s and 50s, now we get cases of people who are in their late 20s or early 30s. We need to treat it and prevent complications that arise with the disease at an early stage,” said Dr. Alhuwalia.

When asked what were the factors responsible for the onset of diabetes, Dr. Alhuwalia said lifestyle changes, obesity, physical inactivity and the wanton consumption of junk food were key factors contributing to diabetes.

He said that his Diabetes Care Foundation Of India is a registered charitable society, which aims to promote health awareness among the common masses in the field of diabetes.

At the awareness camps, patients would be offered free blood sugar check up, free consultation with diabetes specialist, free consultation with neurologist for diabetic neuropathy, including the use of bio-thesometer, free consultation with an eye specialist for diabetic retinopathy, medicines for diabetes and blood pressure at concessional rates, insulin vials and insulin pens at concessional rates, he revealed. Wisden asks ECB to cut cricket to avoid Trescothick type nervous breakdown of players

London, Apr 9 (ANI): To prevent players suffering the sort of nervous breakdown experienced by English opener Marcus Trescothick, Wisden has asked the England and Wales Cricket Board to reduce the amount of cricket being played by the national team.

“The word suffer is used too often in cricket but in his autobiography Trescothick was entitled to use it in describing much of what he endured as an England player,” writes Scyld Berry in his editor’s notes for the new edition of the Wisden Almanack.

“Why do England cricketers spend so much time on the road and at airports? In every Test-playing country the domestic structure has to be subsidised by the international team, but it is a question of degree: the England team generates about 80 per cent of the annual revenue of English cricket, mostly through the broadcasting deal with Sky, and more than half of that income goes to the 18 counties.”

The Telegraph quoted Berry as saying that longer duration of international cricket is enough to drive anyone to distraction, especially as there are not enough games to keep players busy while touring.

The team captains feel the impact intensely: Kevin Pietersen, for instance, admitted that he was exhausted after just six weeks in the job, he adds.

The new Wisden, which is published on Thursday, also calls for county cricket to give up its reliance on the foreign-born cricketers, mostly from the southern hemisphere, who dominate so much of the domestic game. (ANI)
