Illegal construction continues to haunt Mussoorie”s beauty

Mussoorie (Uttarakhand), May 12 (ANI): Despite the Supreme Court”s ruling in 1994 banning illegal constructions, the illicit constructions in Uttarakhand”s Mussoorie city is reportedly affecting the beauty of the hills.

The illegal construction here had stopped after the apex court”s verdict, but the rich and prosperous businessmen and hoteliers coming from other states continue to indulge in illegal construction.

“Common man is not involved in the illegal construction going on in Mussoorie. They cannot act against the Supreme Court ruling. The illegal construction going on the in the valley is mostly done by the hoteliers and businessmen,” said Anuj Tayal, a resident of Mussoorie.

“They have settled here from other states and it is affecting the beauty of Mussoorie. Environment is also affected by it,” he added.

The residents here claimed the illegal constructions are going on because of the collusion between the government officials and violators of law.

“After the supreme court ban on construction in Mussoorie, illegal construction has increased. Only the locals follow the ruling and for those coming from outside for business and are rich enough it has no meaning,” said Rajat Aggarwal, another resident of Mussoorie.

“Even the government is unable to stop these constructions especially in cases where rich businessmen belonging to other states are involved,” he added.

Mussoorie is a hill station, situated in the foothills of the Himalaya ranges, about thirty-four kilometers from Dehradun. It is also known as the ”Queen of the Hills”. (ANI)

Tyra Banks to publish her first novel

New York, May 12 (ANI): Supermodel/talk show host Tyra Banks has announced that she will be publishing her first novel.

A press release from Random House, the publishers of the novel, which will be titled “Modelland”, stated that it is one of a three-book deal, and is expected to be published in summer 2011.

“It’s for all the girls and guys who want a lot more fantasy in their lives … and some fierceness and magic, romance and mystery, crazy and wild adventures, and yeah, some danger too,” the New York Post quoted Banks as writing on her website describing her new book.

Banks, 36, authored a how-to make-up book in 1998, called “Tyra’s Beauty, Inside and Out”. “Modelland” will be her first fiction book. (ANI)

Jaipur city”s dolls museum looks for more visitors

Jaipur, May 4 (ANI): Despite the thirty-five years old dolls museum in Rajasthan”s Jaipur city possessing around three hundred dolls from across the world, it witnesses only a few visitors.

Ironically, the museum receives only a few visitors.

Those who do visit, admire the beauty of the dolls.

“We got to see many dolls from different countries, cultures and states, in this museum. We got to know about their traditional wedding attires. This is a nice place and everybody should come here once,” said Vikas, a visitor
The museum has dolls from India in one section and from different parts of the world in the other. These include United States, Canada, Latin American countries, Africa, Europe, and China.

“Basically, this dolls museum is divided in two parts. In the first part, we have dolls from different states of the country and in the second part; we have dolls from different countries of the world. We got these dolls from different embassies. The founder of this school made this museum in the fond memory of his sister,” said Avdhani, the owner of the museum.

Avdhani added that lack of interest among the travel guides and operators is a major reason for its low popularity.

Tourists flock to Kufri to beat the heat

Shimla, May 3 (ANI): As the mercury rises across northern India, Kufri in Shimla is attracting lots of tourists.

The climate of Kufri is providing much-needed relief to many tourists who leave behind temperatures in mid to high 40s.

“I am from Ahmedabad, the temperature is 47 degree Celsius and here the temperature is very low and here we are enjoying the low temperature and the beauty of hills. The weather is very nice here,” said Prateek, a tourist.

Locals involved in the tourism business say that this tourist rush indicates a good season for them this summer.

“As the summer is going up, tourists are rushing to Kufri. We are having a good business these days. As the mercury will rise in May and June, this rush will increase more. This is good for the hundreds of local youth involved in horse-riding business here,” said Shiv Singh, who arranges horse-riding trips for tourists.

From Shimla and Kufri, tourists also move to other tourist destinations in Himachal Pradesh, like Manali and Dalhousie.

The maximum temperature in most hill-stations of Himachal Pradesh varies from 24 to 27 degree Celsius. (ANI)

Sania’s family, relatives visit historic places in Lahore

Lahore, Apr 26(ANI): Indian tennis star Sania Mirza’s family and other relatives visited the Data Darbar in Lahore to pray and lay flowers at the tomb of Hazrat Syed Al-Hajweri, a famous Persian Sufi saint.

They later visited the Shahi Qilla and Badshahi Masjid, and were mesmerized by the Moghul era symbols and the beauty of the historic places.

Sania’s maternal aunt said that she was very happy to be in Pakistan, and she would visit the country again, The News reports.

They also went Anarkali Bazar, a popular market for Lahori dresses.

A large police contingent accompanied them for security reasons, while media personnel were also following their activities. (ANI)

Govt drops entry fees for national parks

In an attempt to boost visitor numbers, the Victorian Government has decided to make entry to all of the state’s national parks free.

The Premier, John Brumby, is expecting the move will boost visitor numbers by 25 per cent.

The changes will come into effect on July 1.

Mr Brumby says entry to parks such as Wilsons Promontory, Mount Buffalo and Baw Baw will now be free.

“We think it’s a great thing for people to be able to enjoy the magnificent parks that we’ve got across our state,” he said.

He says it is important for families to not have to worry about the financial cost of visiting the state’s parks.

“There are many families where $10 or $20 makes a difference so we hope that they get out there, we hope they enjoy it, we hope children get to appreciate the beauty of our parks across the state.”

Sandra Bullock won’t adopt love-rat hubby’s kids

London, March 31(ANI): Sandra Bullock has made it clear that she has no plans to adopt love-rat husband Jesse James’ children.

The TV mechanic’s ex-wife Janine Lindemulder had said she had no issues if ‘The Blind Side’ actress wanted to adopt her kids.

She said: “If Sandra decides to keep a relationship going with our daughter Sunny, I would in no way stop that. Sunny loves Sandy and vice versa. She”s welcome to be a part of every aspect of Sunny”s life. She has taken care of our daughter as if she was her own… She sacrificed much… and I will forever be indebted to her for that.”

Lindemulder’s comments, which came after the exposure of James’ affair with tattoo model Michelle McGee, had sparked rumors that Bullock would adopt the ‘Monster Garage’ star’s children.

However, the beauty’s representative has cleared the air.

“There are no plans, nor have there ever been any plans, for Sandra Bullock to adopt any of Jesse James” children,” the Daily Express quoted Bullock’s spokesperson as telling People.com. (ANI)

London, March 20 (ANI): While researching for her role in new play ‘Forever in Your Debt’, actress Sarah Thom discovered a man who changed his sex to avoid debt collectors.

The beauty learnt about the man, from the West Midlands, while interacting with workers at the Wolverhampton Credit Union.

The man owed around 50,000 pounds after falling behind on his mortgage payments and credit card bills after losing his job.

It is believed he has gone through with the operation, but is still trying to sort out his debts.

The union, which provides financial advice and loans to members, also narrated to her the tale of an owner of a 99p store in Wolverhampton who had to shut down after penny-pinching customers demanded 1p change.

London, March 10 (ANI): Beauty and brains come together in the case of recently crowned Miss India Worldwide UK, Niharica Raizada who continues to be engaged with her job in stem cell research at a London hospital.

The 24-year-old, who works at Hammersmith Hospital, believes being beautiful is just not enough.

“Maybe it is the peer pressure in India these days that pushes the women to be acknowledged as smart, independent, highly qualified individuals,” the Telegraph quoted Raizada as saying.

Guwahati, Sep.18 (ANI): With the growing number of fashion conscious youngsters present in the northeast region of the country, the fashion and beauty industry is gaining popularity here.

This was recently noticed when Miss Fresh Face of North East 2009 contest was held in Guwahati and it received an enthusiastic response from people of the region.

Dabur Gulabari organized the Miss Fresh Face of North East 2009 for which a model hunt was conducted across colleges and institutes in the region to discover fresh new faces from the northeast.

The organisers of the contest received an overwhelming response with over 700 entries of which 150 girls were short-listed for the auditions.

After extensive screening and audition, 18 participants were selected for the Grand Finale.

It was a unique way of spreading awareness among the beauty conscious women of the North East and provides them a platform to enter the world of mainstream modelling.

“Northeast is full of talent. We don’t get into big celebrities. We take fresh faces from the common public and make them a celebrity. We want to associate with fresh talents and bring them to the national platform so that they can grow,” said Dyas Anand, the organizer.
