Miss Fresh Face of North East contest a major draw for youth

Guwahati, Sep.18 (ANI): With the growing number of fashion conscious youngsters present in the northeast region of the country, the fashion and beauty industry is gaining popularity here.

This was recently noticed when Miss Fresh Face of North East 2009 contest was held in Guwahati and it received an enthusiastic response from people of the region.

Dabur Gulabari organized the Miss Fresh Face of North East 2009 for which a model hunt was conducted across colleges and institutes in the region to discover fresh new faces from the northeast.

The organisers of the contest received an overwhelming response with over 700 entries of which 150 girls were short-listed for the auditions.

After extensive screening and audition, 18 participants were selected for the Grand Finale.

It was a unique way of spreading awareness among the beauty conscious women of the North East and provides them a platform to enter the world of mainstream modelling.

“Northeast is full of talent. We don’t get into big celebrities. We take fresh faces from the common public and make them a celebrity. We want to associate with fresh talents and bring them to the national platform so that they can grow,” said Dyas Anand, the organizer.

“It is gradually increasing and I believe that it will go on increasing and the reputation will also keep on going up as good upcoming models are also there. I feel it is very good,” said Bidisha Baruah, the winner.

Bidisha Baruah, a resident of Guwahati, was awarded one-year modelling contract with Dabur Gulabari and a cash prize of rupees 50,000.

The first and second runner-up, Wanda Mary of Shillong and Nabanita Sarma of Guwahati also received cash prize of rupees 30,000 and rupees 20,000 respectively. By Peter Alex Todd (ANI)

Foreign beauty academies explore the scope in Punjab

Ludhiana, Sep. 11 (ANI): A large number of students from Punjab prefer going abroad for advance studies. But, in a reverse trend, foreign academies are now venturing into Punjab to provide quality education to Punjabi students.

Orane Beauty academy from Canada, located in Ludhiana is one such institution.

“As most of the Punjabi people, they want to go abroad. After getting this certificate, they will be able to work in good positions like beauty therapists. They can open their own salon. They need not to go for any other certification to work in any country, so this is the benefit for the people of Punjab and I hope students will get certificates and work all over the world. The kind of attitude Punjabis have, can work according to that,” said Dinesh Sood, Director, Orane Beauty Academy.

Aestheticians and beauty professionals have never been so well paid as they are today and such international academies have come as boon to those who want to make a career in these areas.

Foreign trainers regularly visit the academies to update the students on latest beauty trends and styles.

The foreign Academies in Punjab aim at enabling their students find suitable jobs anywhere in the world.

They even assist students by providing Visa Consultancy services and provide training in Public relations and International English Language Testing System (IELTS).

The entire process makes the students optimistic and confident about getting jobs in the beauty industry across the world.

“A large number of people have opened beauty salons in India these days. However people give preference to international academies as they teach advanced techniques, which are used internationally,” said Nisha, a trainee, Orane Beauty Academy.

“These days beauty is a very upcoming field, you can very well see all over in our country. You can never imagine beauty will go on and on throughout our lives, so its very important level also, so this is the line that we should know, learn and our future and career totally depended on it. In this field you will never see any recession, it will go on and on,” said Simmi Kumar, Trainee, Orane Beauty Academy.

These students are also excited about the existing opportunities in the domestic market.

Salma Hayek to unveil grandma-inspired cosmetics line

Washington, Mar 17 (ANI): Salma Hayek is all set to venture into the beauty industry by launching a range of anti-ageing cosmetics.

The ‘Desperado’ actress is developing a new cosmetics line inspired by her maternal grandmother, former cosmetologist Maria Luisa, whose home-made potions kept her skin glowing well into her 90s.

Although the line is currently unnamed, the 42-year-old Mexican actress is planning to recreate the concoctions, which will be named in her grandmother’s honour.

“When she died at 96, of course her skin had sagged, but she didn’t have any wrinkles,” Contactmusic quoted Hayek as telling InStyle magazine.

She added: “She made her own creams using secret ingredients you can only find in Latin America.” (ANI)
