Terrorism must be opposed and crushed, KNP

London, May 10 (ANI):Supreme Council of Kashmir National Party met in Watford, England to discuss issues related to the Kashmiri struggle and the KNP.

The Supreme Council after detailed discussion unanimously declared that:

Terrorism must be opposed and crushed. It hurts innocent people; and it is seriously hurting interests of Muslims around the world, especially those living in the Western countries.

In this regard government of Pakistan and its agencies have a great role to play and have to be honest with what they claim. They have to stop this distinction of ‘good terrorists’ and ‘bad terrorists’; and revisit its policy because terrorists could not be strategic asset, as they have their own agenda which is against Muslims and hurts innocent people of other religions as well.

They have also to stop infiltration in Jammu and Kashmir as it hurts people of Jammu and Kashmir on both sides of the Line of Control; and create tension and hatred in the region.

Government of Pakistan must stop its endeavours to annex Kashmiri territory of Gilgit Baltistan, and give people of the region their fundamental human rights.

Government of Pakistan must stop its meddling in affairs of Pakistani Administered Kashmir and immediately abrogate Act 74, which has practically made this territory a colony of Pakistan; and has allowed Pakistan to plunder and exploit our resources.

The Supreme Council strongly condemned action of puppet government of Gilgit Baltistan in which Shafqat Inquilabi and other leaders of APNA were not allowed to hold a peaceful public meeting in Gilgit on 28 April; and were expelled by force from the region.

This action of puppet government is flagrant violation of human rights of these people; and makes mockery of the much claimed democracy in Gilgit Baltistan imposed by Islamabad.

The Supreme Council, in line with its declared policy and constitution, set up Parliamentary Candidates Selection Board to select candidates for the next elections in Pakistani Administered Kashmir.

Dr Shabir Choudhry has been appointed Chairman of PCSB with the following people as members: Masoom Ansari, Ch Mohammed Ayub, Ifzaal Sulehria, Mahfooz Tahir and Yasin Anjum.

In this regard Abbas Butt, Chairman of the KNP will soon visit Pakistani Administered Kashmir to finalise these matters, and examine progress of various projects including progress of challenge to Gilgit Baltistan Ordinance currently waiting hearing in the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

The Supreme Council declared that KNP wants to work with other like minded people and parties to promote a common agenda, but this goodwill gesture cannot continue when members of other nationalist parties show immaturity; and some with mischievous character spew venom against senior KNP leaders, as happened few weeks ago.

KNP leaders welcomed resumption of talks between India and Pakistan, but emphasised that the Kashmir dispute is not a bilateral dispute, and could not be resolved by bilateral talks. They said there is no military solution to the Kashmir dispute and violence must end that lives could be saved and the peace process could be resumed.

They reiterated their position that unification and independence of the entire State is their ultimate goal; and that APHC does not represent people of the State. They said Kashmir dispute is not religious in nature, and those who are trying to link it with Pan Islamic Movement are not well wishers of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, because movement based on religion will divide the State by provoking communal, sectarian and regional rivalries.

The Supreme Council appreciated the work carried out by Diplomatic Committee; and directed its head Dr Shabir Choudhry to work on new targets decided by the Supreme Council.

The Supreme Council strongly condemn government of Pakistani Administered Kashmir for harassing and starting unfounded cases against KNP Zonal President Ifzaal Suleria. They also condemn arrest and illegal detention of Shafqat Inquilabi who was illegally expelled from his home district.

KNP leaders congratulated all those British Kashmiri politicians who have been successful in the British elections, notably Mr Khalid Mahmood, Shabana Mahmood, Mr Chishti who have become Members of House of Commons; and Ali Adalat, Ghulam Hussain and others who have won local council seats.

The following people addressed the meeting: Abbas Butt, Nazam Bhatti, Masoom Ansari, Nawaz Majeed, Javed Shah, Asim Mirza, Ch Abdul Razaq, Ch Abdul Aziz, Aurnagzeb, Anis Ahmed Abdul Majeed Ch, Mohammed Shabbir Awan, Zil- e- Shah Naqvi and Dr Shabir Choudhry. (ANI)

BNF chief criticises Shah for inviting Shoaib-Sania for honeymoon

Brussels, Apr 26 (ANI): Balawaristan National Front (BNF) Chairman Abdul Hamid Khan has criticized puppet Balochistan Chief Minister Syed Mehdi Shah”s offer to Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik and his Indian wife Sania Mirza to spend their honeymoon in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Khan lashed out at Shah and said that in order to please his Pakistani masters, the chief minister was even ready to sacrifice the cultural traditions, honor and sanctity of the motherland.

He said the invitation to the newly wed couple from Pakistan to spend their honeymoon in the region is complete disregards to the sentiments of the local people.

“Under these circumstances, the silence of the indigenous people of the area is also deplorable,” added Khan.

In a statement issued to the media from Brussels, the BNF chief said had Mehdi Shah been the true son of the soil he would have at least respected the traditions, culture, sanctity and self-respect of the two million people of the region.

“The assets of the people of the region should be spent on their well-being and betterment instead of being wasted on the luxuries of others,” he added.

“Mehdi Shah had no courage to raise any voice when the innocent and unarmed residents of the Diamer district were being brutally killed and maimed for protesting against the construction of the illegal dam on their soil,” said Khan.

“Neither had he the guts to speak for the rights of the bereaved families or the affected people of the illegal dam,” he added.

The BNF chief further said had the puppet chief minister invited foreigners to the region to enjoy their life on his own expenses, the people of the region might not have raised any objection.

“But spending the meager funds of the oppressed people whose all rights have so far been denied on the luxuries of foreigners is an insult to the people and should be condemned,” he claimed, adding that it shows how honest the dummy chief minister is and how he cares for the development of the region and betterment of the poor masses.

“The chief minister should have extended a helping hand to the bereaved families of the Martyrs, disable and injured heroes of Kargil war, or established some funds for the assistance of poor students of the region,” said Khan.

The BNF chief pointed out that the educational institutions have been closed due to paucity of funds in the region; while many development projects have also been put into the cold storage as the rulers have stopped releasing funds for them.

“Despite being gifted by nature with abundance of natural resources, the region is deprived of electricity while over two thousand leases of mineral resources including gold and uranium etc have been given to Pakistani and other foreign nationals,” said Khan.

“By bribing the elected representatives the two million, the people of the region are being kept deprived of their basic rights,” he added.

The BNF chief asked the so-called legislative assembly to dare to legislate at least a couple of laws for the overall welfare of the nation by getting rid of the 61-point package lies of the house.

He also asked the assembly to take over the income being generated from the Sost Dry Port (import export) and spend it on the betterment of the region.

“Secondly, all land allotments to Pakistani and other national since 1971 should be cancelled and action taken against those who violated the Sate Subject Rule,” he added.

The BNF chief also demanded that local government employees should be posted in the region and Pakistani national should be sent back to their respective home.

“Capital punishment and life imprisonment should be abolished till setting up of supreme and high courts in the region,” said Khan, adding that the Gilgit Baltistan Assembly should not act like a rubber stamp in the hands of Pakistani Government and its military regime. (ANI)

Pak Government conspiring to divide Kashmir permanently: JUI leader

London, Mar.16 (ANI): Criticising the present Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) led government for not being able to break the deadlock over the Kashmir issue, senior Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan (JUI) leader Hafiz Hussain Ahmed has accused them of conspiring to divide the Kashmir region permanently between India and Pakistan.

Speaking during a function organised by the Tehreek-e-Kashmir (United Kingdom), Ahmed said the Gilani government is conspiring to make the Line of Control (LoC) a permanent border between India and Pakistan, and giving a provincial status to Gilgit-Baltistan was the first step in this regard.

He termed the special autonomy package for Gilgit-Baltistan as ‘unconstitutional’ and urged Kashmiri people from both sides of the border to oppose the move.

Ahmed blasted Pakistani leaders of playing into the hands of international powers.

He also took a swipe at former President General Pervez Musharraf, saying he took a ‘u-turn’ on the Kashmir issue under foreign pressure, and added that the PPP government is still following Musharraf’s policies over the long pending issues.

Speaking during the function, Tehreek-e- Kashmir president Mohammad Ghalib also criticised Musharraf for compromising on Pakistan’s stance over the issue.

“Former military dictator Pervez Mushrraf has caused huge damage to Kashmir cause by accepting the dictation of foreign powers and compromising legitimate position of the country on this key issue,” The Nation quoted Ghalib, as saying. (ANI)

Kashmir is the jugular vein of Pakistan: Gilani

Islamabad, Sep.20 (ANI): Pakistan Prime Minister Yosuf Raza Gilani is back to singing his ‘K-tune’ by describing Kashmir as Pakistan’s jugular vein.

Interacting with a group of political leaders during an Iftaar party at the PM House here, Gilani said Islamabad’s policy on Kashmir was based on Mohammad Ali Jinnah’s stance that “Kashmir was the jugular vein of Pakistan.”

Referring to the government’s recent decision to grant internal autonomy to Gilgit-Baltistan, Gilani said Pakistan’s stand on Kashmir would remain unchanged.

“I want to express in clear and unequivocal terms that this decision of the government will not bring any change in Pakistan’s principled stand on Kashmir,” Gilani said.

Gilani blamed India of neglecting the long pending Kashmir issue and said that Pakistan wants a peaceful resolution to the dispute.

“We want to resolve the Kashmir dispute peacefully and have invited India for negotiations, despite it repeatedly ignoring them,” The Daily times quoted Gilani, as saying.

Gilani said he had categorically told Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh during their meeting at the margins of the NAM summit in Sharm-el-Sheikh earlier this year that resolving the issue was very important for establishing peace in the region.

“There could be no peace in the region until the Kashmir dispute was resolved according to the aspirations of its people,” he added. (ANI)

KNP to hold Black Day on Oct.22

London, Sep.8 (ANI): The Supreme Council of the KNP held an important meeting in Luton on September 6, which was presided by the party Chairman Abbas Butt. The meeting discussed and analysed the current situation of the Kashmiri struggle and made important decisions.

The Supreme Council strongly condemned the government of Pakistan’s latest attempts to grab territory which is legal part of State of Jammu and Kashmir. The SC said Pakistani governments have never been sincere with the cause of Kashmir and always have formulated policies to snatch Kashmir; and have deliberately deprived people of their fundamental human rights.

The SC said people of Gilgit Baltistan deserve to have their basic human rights which have been denied since 1947; but no one should be allowed to implement their imperialist designs in name of giving rights to people of the region. The KNP leaders said, if Pakistani authorities were sincere they could have discussed the issue with the people of the region and given these rights without making the region a ‘province’ of Pakistan.

PPP government claims to advance rights of people and democracy, but their policies are designed to deprive people of basic rights and advance undemocratic and unconstitutional practises. They tried to make Pakistani Administered Kashmir a province after the Shimla Pact and they plan to make Gilgit Baltistan a province and pave way for division of Jammu and Kashmir.

KNP leaders said some people of Jammu and Kashmir hold Black Day on 27th October, as that is the day when Indian army landed in Kashmir. KNP leaders said in our opinion their wisdom is misdirected. We have to look at the root cause. Indian army came after the tribal invasion and subsequent ‘Provisional Accession’.

KNP Supreme Council said, ‘It was the Pakistani tribesmen supported by the Pakistani government of the time which violated the Standstill Agreement and invaded parts of the State territory. It was these tribesmen which contravened the State sovereignty and killed thousands of innocent Kashmiri men and women. It was because of this unprovoked and unjustified attack on our sovereignty which seriously threatened life, honour and property of people that the Maharaja was compelled to seek help from India.

KNP leaders said we have serious issues with India on their Kashmir policy, as we believe Kashmir is not their internal part; but as for the Black Day is concerned we should have Black Day on 22 October because this is the day when our troubles and miseries started.

KNP SC has decided to take a lead on this matter and hold a BLACK DAY on 22 October; and in this regard various responsibilities have been given to Dr Shabir Choudhry and Nawaz Majid who will liaise with other like minded people and parties. The meeting was addressed by ZubairAnsari, Nazam Bhatti, Nawaz Majid, Asim Mirza, Abbas Butt and Dr Shabir Choudhry.

Earlier KNP held an Iftar Party in which more than eighty people were present; among them were leaders and political activists of various Kashmiri parties who spoke against the new package for Gilgit and Baltistan and condemned designs of Pakistani government. In the meeting pro Pakistan and nationalist leaders were present, and they all strongly spoke against this new package and demanded that it must be taken back.

A unanimous resolution was passed which strongly criticised the new package and demanded from government of Pakistan to withdraw it as it will seriously damage our struggle for right of self determination. The resolution fully supported fundamental rights of people of Gilgit Baltistan; but added that the State of Jammu and Kashmir is one political entity and it must not be divided. (ANI)

Pakistan will continue to support the K-cause: Gilani

Karachi, Sep.5 (ANI): Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has once again said that Islamabad would continue its support to the Kashmiri people and the government’s decision to give autonomy to Gilgit Baltistan does not mean that it has shelved the Kashmir issue.

“We gave internal autonomy, sovereignty to Gilgit Baltistan which was a long standing demand of its people but this does not mean that we have forgotten the Kashmir issue. We will continue to give moral and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri people,” Gilani said.

The prime minister said the government had not altered its stance on the Kashmir issue by awarding autonomy to the Northern Areas.

He said Kashmir was the cornerstone of the PPP’s foreign policy, and support to the cause would continue.

Interacting with media persons during an Iftar dinner hosted by Sindh Governor Dr. Ishratul Ebad Khan, Gilani stressed that Pakistan was not a ‘failed state’, saying the country has a ‘strong democratic government, independent judiciary, free media’.

Referring to the Swat military operation, Gilani said security forces have ‘successfully’ defeated extremism and militancy with full support of the masses.

“NATO forces are fighting in Afghanistan for last five and a half years but Pakistan’s armed forces successfully carried out the operation against extremists and terrorists in Malakand in eight weeks,” The Dawn quoted Gilani, as saying.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that there is a need to project the Kashmir issue more vigorously and the role of Kashmiri leadership was extremely important in this context.

Briefing political leaders of the Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) on the Gilgit-Baltistan reforms, Qureshi said resolution of the Kashmir issue was the key to a durable peace in the region.

“We feel that Kashmir dispute is central to Pakistan-India relations, which highlights the need for the Kashmiris to be associated with the dialogue process,” Qureshi said.

He assured the leaders that Pakistan has been making consistent efforts to project the Kashmir cause at various international levels.

Commenting on the water dispute with India, Qureshi said : “We have emphasized upon the Indian side that there was a need to ensure respect to Indus Waters Treaty and the commitment to address concerns related thereto.” (ANI)

Gilgit Baltistan reforms aimed at providing better security cover for Chinese investments

Islamabad, Sep.4 (ANI): The recent administrative reforms for the Northern Areas, officially known as Gilgit Baltistan, announced by the Pakistan government, is primarily aimed at providing a better security cover for the rapidly growing Chinese interests in the region, an analyst has said.

According to Quetta-based development analyst, Syed Fazl-e-Haider, the reforms, which were announced last week, are targeted at providing an enhanced security cover for the region which has seen some massive Chinese investments in the recent past.

Despite the Pakistan government not giving Gilgit Baltistan the status of the country’s fifth province, the reforms would see the region having a legislative assembly, a chief minister and a governor.

China has invested heavily in numerous projects in the Northern Areas and is likely to launch several new projects, particularly in power sector, costing billions of dollars.

Beijing’s profile in the Northern Areas has been rising for the past decade, with investments in a range of infrastructure projects. Important China-funded projects include the construction, maintenance and expansion of the Kara Koram Highway (KKH), Haider said.

The proposed Bunji dam is estimated to cost up to seven billion dollars and will have a capacity to generate 7,000 megawatts of electricity. Under the deal, undertaken on a build-operate-transfer basis, all the investment will be made by Chinese entrepreneurs.

It may be recalled that during his China visit last month, President Asif Ali Zardari signed a memorandum of understanding on construction of a hydro-power station at Bunji, in Gilgit Baltistan.

Both Beijing and Islamabad are also planning to link the KKH to the southern Pakistani port of Gwadar in southwestern Balochistan province through the Chinese-built Gwadar-Dalbandin railway, which extends up Rawalpindi, Haider added further.

China has already agreed to give Pakistan 121 million dollars supplier credit out of a total cost of 12 billion rupees for the construction of the Karakoram Highway to establish links with the Bhasha dam site to help transport heavy machinery needed for its construction.

Besides that Islamabad is also expecting an investment of 1.5 billion dollars per year from European, Arab and Chinese companies which are willing to form a conglomerate on a build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis, Haider said. (ANI)

PPP will not comprise with India on Kashmir issue: Pak Minister

Oslo (Norway), Aug.19 (ANI): Pakistan’s Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Qamar Zaman Kaira, today said that neither his country nor the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party would compromise with India on the Kashmir issue.

Kaira, who is also Pakistan’s Information and Broadcasting Minister, expressed these views in a meeting with Sardar Ali Shahnawaz Khan, advisor to chairman of Christian Democratic Party in Oslo, Norway.

Kaira said that Pakistan is ready for dialogue with India for a peaceful solution of the Kashmir issue, but added that Islamabad would only accept a solution that was acceptable to all Kashmiris.

Pakistan, he said, has not shied away from taking up the Kashmir issue at the diplomatic level. He said President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani had raised the Kashmir issue at all international forums.

According to the Dawn, he asked Shah Nawaz to urge New Delhi to start serious talk on Kashmir.

The Kashmir conflict refers to the territorial dispute over Kashmir, the northwesternmost region of the Indian subcontinent. The parties to the dispute are India, Pakistan, China and the people of Kashmir.

India claims the entire former Dogra princely state of Jammu and Kashmir and presently administers approximately 43 percent of the region including most of Jammu, Kashmir Valley, Ladakh and the Siachen Glacier. India’s claim is contested by Pakistan which controls approximately 37 percent of Kashmir, mainly Azad Kashmir and the northern areas of Gilgit and Baltistan. In addition, China controls 20 percent of Kashmir including Aksai Chin which it occupied following the brief Sino-Indian War of 1962 and the Trans-Karakoram Tract, also known as the Shaksam Valley, that was ceded to it by Pakistan in 1963.

India’s official position is that Kashmir is an “integral part” of India. Pakistan’s official position is that Kashmir is a disputed territory whose final status must be determined by the people of Kashmir. Certain Kashmiri independence groups believe that Kashmir should be independent of both India and Pakistan.

India and Pakistan have fought three wars over Kashmir: in 1947, 1965, and 1999. India and China have clashed once, in 1962 over Aksai Chin as well as the northeastern Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh. India and Pakistan have also been involved in several skirmishes over Siachen Glacier.

The Kashmir dispute has been a part of UN deliberations since 1948. Pakistan has demanded that the dispute be resolved as per the UN resolutions of 1948 and 1949. India, however, maintains that the these resolutions are being wrongly interpreted by Islamabad. (ANI)

‘KNP concerned over missing people in Muzaffarabad’

London, Apr.13 (ANI): Kashmir National Party Spokesman Dr Shabir Choudhry has expressed serious concern over disappearance of Kashmiri youths from Muzaffarabad. Over the months dozens of young men have disappeared from Muzaffarabad, and people are really concerned about this, said Dr Shabir Choudhry.

Last night another young man Adnaan Mir disappeared without a trace. Last week a dead body of Shah Zaman was discovered from a deserted hotel building. Shah Zaman disappeared some weeks ago and no one knew anything about him until his dead body was discovered inflicting fear and worry among the citizens of the city.

About two months ago Khawaja Asim Rasool, a cousin of a famous political activist Khawaja Abid Kashmiri went missing and no one knows where he is. Khawaja Abid Kashmiri pursues a nationalist politics and wants a complete independence of the State from India and Pakistan.

Khawaja Abid Kashmiri while talking to Dr Shabir Choudhry said, ‘people are seriously worried about these disappearances’. He said over the months dozens of young men have disappeared and no one knows where they are and what has happened to them.

KNP Spokesman said, ‘this is very serious matter and we need to know what is going on. Are these people kidnapped by the agencies to teach lesson and harass those who oppose Pakistani domination in the area; or they are used for some other sinister motives’.

Dr Shabir Choudhry said, ‘this is a serious breach of UNCIP Resolutions under which Pakistan assumed control of these areas. Pakistani authorities must come clean on this matter and stop harassing those who espouse nationalist politics’.

Dr Shabir Choudhry said, ‘some organisation are only concerned about human rights abuse on the Indian side of the LOC; but we condemn and oppose human rights abuse on both sides of the divide, as our struggle is against wrong policies and human rights abuse rather than any specific country’.

Dr Shabir Choudhry said, ‘we have asked people to prepare a list of missing people that we can take up their case with the relevant authorities and international human rights organisation, including the UN and Amnesty International’.

KNP Spokesman said, ‘we will investigate human rights abuse in Gilgit and Baltistan and in Pakistani Administered Kashmir, and take it up at the international level that this trend must stop; and people of these areas are not intimidated for their political or religious views. Solidarity with the oppressed people of Pakistan

London: On 12 March 2009 there was a demonstration outside the UN Human Rights Council which was attended by people of Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit and Baltistan, Sind, Balochistan, Frontier Province Pakhtoon Khawa and Punjab. The demonstration was organised by Sardar Shaukat Kashmiri and was a big demonstration according to standards of Geneva.

Among those who spoke on this occasion included Senator Sana Ullah Baloch, Munawar Laghari, Col Wajhat Mirza, Nader Mirza, Shaukat Kashmiri, Mumtaz Khan, Nasir Aziz, Abbas Butt, Dr Shabir Choudhry etc.

A summary of Dr Shabir Choudhry’s speech is as follows:

‘Fiends and colleagues, right to assemble and right of expression is a fundamental human right. How unfortunate that in Islamic Republic of Pakistan these rights are curbed by the authorities which claim to be democratic and which claim to respect rule of law’.

‘We are fortunate that we live in Europe where these rights are respected and we can freely assemble to express our views. And today we are here outside the UN Human Rights Commission to show our solidarity with the people of Pakistan who have campaigned for restoration of independent judiciary, accountability and rule of law’.

‘We want to tell people of Pakistan that we stand with them in this hour of need. We support you fully in your struggle for rule of law and fundamental rights. Our sympathies and prayers are with you. You deserve to have an independent judiciary, you deserve to live with dignity and honour, you deserve to have democracy and rule of law; and your struggle will be successful’.

‘But you cannot expect to have democracy who are allies of undemocratic regimes, and those who are product of secret deals with dictators. You cannot expect to have rule of law and accountability from those who are product of corruption and who have a track record of intimidating and undermining the judicial system.’

‘You cannot expect peace and stability from those who have policy of promoting communalism, extremism and hatred. Their policy is to divide and rule. They want to promote extremism in name of jihad which is tearing the Pakistani society apart. On one hand they are part of the war on terrorism and on the other hand they are secretly supporting those who are promoting terrorism’.

‘We want to show our solidarity with all oppressed people of Pakistan, whether they are in Balochistan, Sind, Frontier Province, Punjab or FATA. We also want to speak in support of people of Gilgit and Baltistan and Pakistani Administered Kashmir, where people are also denied of their fundamental human rights’.

‘Pakistan has been ruled by elite who have been advancing policy of communalism, extremism and hatred. This policy of unwise elite has created many problems for us Kashmiris and we continue to suffer due to that policy. This policy not only created many problems for Pakistan’s neighbours but also landed Pakistan in very serious problems which threaten very existence of Pakistan’.

‘Those who expect that the ruling elite of Pakistan could bring peace, stability and prosperity to Pakistan and could help in fight against extremism and hatred are totally wrong, because in view of many experts the ruling elite is part of the problem and not part of solution. They want to perpetuate their rule at all costs. Peace, stability and prosperity in the country are not their priorities. Elimination of extremism and terrorism is not their goal, because they are using these as tools to advance their political and personal agenda’.

‘Their deals and agreements with extremists in Swat and FATA are not based on sincerity. This is to provide these extremists that they can regroup and reorganise themselves to assert their influence and power in other parts of the country. It is believed that in near future these extremist groups will be playing an important role in FATA and Afghanistan’. (ANI)
