Montgomerie fighting to save marriage after cheating wife

London, Jun 4 (ANI): Ryder Cup captain and golf superstar Colin Montgomerie is fighting to save his marriage after confessing that he had been having a secret affair with his ex-lover Joanne Baldwin.

Montgomerie’s two-year marriage is in trouble though he has ended his affair so that his wife Gaynor stays with him, The Mirror reports.

“I have put my marriage under considerable strain, but we are working through these problems. I am very sorry for the hurt I have caused to the ones I love so much.

“I would ask that my family and I are given the space and privacy to continue trying to resolve the issues. I will be making no further comment,” Montgomerie said in a statement.

The golf superstar first fell for former neighbour Joanne, 50, after his marriage to Eimear Wilson broke down in 2004, The Mirror reports.

The romance with Joanne finally collapsed in April 2006 after the golfer was spotted sharing romantic dinner dates with Scottish TV presenter Alison Walker.

Soon afterwards Montgomerie met Gaynor, who inherited 20 million pounds in 2003 when her first husband, furniture tycoon George Knowles, died while on holiday in Mallorca.

They wed in April 2008. The couple has seven children between them and lives in a nine-bed Perthshire mansion.

A source close to Joanne said: “She kept in touch after they split up and made it clear she would always be there for Colin.”

Joanne told The Mirror: “I’m very sorry if his marriage is in trouble, but it’s nothing to do with me.” (ANI)

Sculpture to honour ‘suntan man’

A bronze sculpture that honours a former tourism icon has been poured on the Gold Coast in south-east Queensland today.

For more than three decades, Al Baldwin, or Al the Suntan man, sprayed lotion on visitors to Surfers Paradise beach.

He died in 2004 at the age of 74.

The Gold Coast City Council has commissioned a sculpture which replicates the Suntan Man’s famous deck chair and cap.

Lead sculptor Frederic Berjot says many people have fond memories of Al Baldwin, including his own mother-in-law.

“She’s always mentioned this guy who used to be on the Gold Coast and used to spray all of these young girls and he was handsome-looking,” he said.

The sculpture will be finished next year and will be placed on the Surfers Paradise beachfront

Body double does most of Alec Baldwin’s role in 30 Rock

Washington, September 12 (ANI): Actor Alec Baldwin has a body double for his role in hit TV Show 30 Rock, as he can’t spare enough time to film it himself, it has emerged.

The star apparently works just three days a week, as he needs to travel back to Los Angeles to spend time with his daughter Ireland.

According to sources it has led to the comedy show creator and star, Tina Fey, organizing rehearsals and scenes around Baldwin’s absence, by using a stand-in.

“Tina saves Alec’s speaking lines for his arrival on set, but everything else is shot with a stand-in,” Fox News quoted an on-set source as saying.

Most shots featuring Baldwin’s character are shot from behind or sideways.

The insider said: “Those [body double takes] make it into the final cut of the show. There are many back shots and side shots that don’t show Alec’s face, because it is his stand-in on Alec’s days off.

“The goal is to have everything ready to shoot Alec when he’s there, with as little stress as possible.

“He does not have the desire to be tied to a set six or seven days a week, and Tina was willing to work it so that he could get everything he wanted. Alec can pretty much do anything he wants at ’30 Rock’.”

Baldwin was spotted at the U.S. Open this week watching tennis. (ANI)

We want you to move to Ohio and run for Governor. We will launch your career’,” Contactmusic quoted him as telling Playboy magazine.

And Baldwin admits that he has been tempted by the offer to join the ranks of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jesse Ventura and become a celebrity Governor – or simply run for political office elsewhere.

Oz navy commander in soup for ‘bikinis to boost’ recruitment drive remarks!

Melbourne, Jan 15 (ANI): Feminists are calling for action to be taken after a newly appointed Australian navy submarine commander suggested that female sailors wearing bikinis would help boost recruitment.

Commander Tom Phillips, appointed to the helm of Collins class submarine HMAS Farncomb last year, was asked in an interview with a men’s magazine Ralph “if female sailors all had to be hot and had to wear bikinis, would that help recruitment?”

He was quoted as saying: “It would certainly get the right demographic of young men in. I’m not sure how feasible it is, however.”

According to the Daily Telegraph, Phillips also revealed the naval uniform works to “either pull a chick or get in a fight” and said the submarine equivalent of the mile-high club is the “going down club”.

Now, the Federal Opposition and feminists have called for action over the article and Minister for Defence Warren Snowden has described the comments as ‘utterly unacceptable’.

Despite bipartisan attempts to improve the recruitment and retention of women in the defence forces, Liberal MP Bob Baldwin said Phillips’ remarks were ‘totally inappropriate and absolutely offensive.’

“If these comments are to be attributed to this newly appointed commander, I think it will go down as one of the shortest careers in naval history,” News.com.au quoted Baldwin, the Opposition Defence Personnel spokesman, as saying.

“From a commanding officer of the Royal Australian Navy one would expect a bit more maturity and a respectful attitude to his fellow men and women in the services. He owes them an apology,” Baldwin added.

Eva Cox, chair of the Womens Lobby Australia, said the article reflected ‘the Navy’s limited view of women as bodies rather than brains’. (ANI)
