Carey Mulligan to play Eliza Doolittle in ‘My Fair Lady’ remake

London, Mar 26 (ANI): English actress Carey Mulligan is set to play Eliza Doolittle in a remake of the film ‘My Fair Lady’.

Mulligan, 24, will be following in the footsteps of late actress Audrey Hepburn, who had played the part of Doolittle in 1964.

Actress Emma Thompson, who wrote the script for the new version of the film, disclosed Mulligan’s involvement as she attended the premier of her latest Nanny McPhee film.

“I think Carey is set to play it, yes,” the Telegraph quoted her as telling BBC Five Live.

She also said that she was keen for actor Hugh Grant to play the role of Henry Higgins that had originally been performed by late actor Rex Harrison.

“I love Hugh so I’d love him to do it. He might want to, he might not want to, so we don’t know yet. But hopefully we’ll make it later this year,” Thompson added. (ANI)

Anna Friel bares all for Breakfast at Tiffany’s role

London, September 20 (ANI): Actress Anna Friel dropped her layers on stage for her role in classic Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

The Pushing Daisies star was said to have left fans with dropped jaws as she stripped off at the preview at London’s Theatre Royal Haymarket.

“The guys in the front row couldn’t believe it, their eyes were on stalks. It looked like they were about to pass out,” News of the World quoted one as saying.

The 33-year-old stars as Holly Golightly, the role made famous by Audrey Hepburn in the 1961 Oscar-winning movie.

The play opens on September 29. (ANI)

Keira Knightley competes with Scarlett Johansson to be My Fair Lady

London, Aug 30 (ANI): Keira Knightley has been forced to compete with Scarlett Johansson for the role of Eliza Doolittle in a remake of ‘My Fair Lady’.

Knightley was lined up for the part of the Cockney flower seller, played by Audrey Hepburn in the 1964 film, by Sir Cameron Mackintosh, the co-producer.

The ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ star confirmed last year that she had auditioned and begun singing lessons, reports the Telegraph.

However, she has since been told that she has an American rival for the part.

Sir Cameron said: “I have two actresses as potential Elizas, one British, the other American. You’d know their names, but I’m not letting on.”

Emma Thompson is writing the script for the film, which Stephen Daldry is expected to direct. Daniel Craig may be Professor Henry Higgins. (ANI)

Anna Friel vows not to ‘do Hepburn impression’ in West End show

London, June 27 (ANI): Actress Anna Friel has pledged not to mirror “an Audrey Hepburn impression” in the West End show of Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

The former Brookside star, who bore a striking resemblance to Hepburn, swore to add an “edge” to the character of Holly Golightly in the new stage production.

“My Holly will have a lot more rough edges than Audrey’s,” The Sun quoted her as saying.

“One of the scary things at first for me was thinking, ‘Gosh, people will assume they’re coming to see an Audrey Hepburn impression’ and that won’t be happening,” she added.

The stage adaptation of Truman Capote’s 1958 novel is due to begin in September. (ANI)

Angelina Jolie wants to be like Audrey Hepburn

New Delhi, June 20 (ANI): Angelina Jolie has said that she wants to follow in the footsteps of Audrey Hepburn and be as selfless as the Breakfast at Tiffany’s star.

While in an interview with NBC’s The Today Show, Jolie – who raises six children with partner Brad Pitt – said she wants to help as many people as possible, reports The China Daily.

“I’m lucky to be in this,” Angelina said, referring to her role as a U.N. Goodwill Ambassador, “And I’m sure Audrey Hepburn felt the same.”

Hepburn, passed away in 1993, spent almost 40 years championing the cause of impoverished children across the globe.

“She was the fortunate one to be able to meet all those kids around the world,” explains the Changeling star.

She adds: “You know, we’re just in a very fortunate situation that we get to be able to give a voice to these extraordinary people.

There’s been refugees since the dawn of time.

“And I’m sure, you know, my children will be visiting and learning from refugees in the future.” (ANI)

Rare Audrey Hepburn smoking stamp fetches £47k at auction

London, May 27 (ANI): A rare stamp portraying film star Audrey Hepburn smoking fetched close to 47,000 pounds at an auction in Germany, it has emerged.

Eight years ago, the German government had ordered the stamp to be destroyed after Hepburn’s son, Sean Ferrer, objected to the cigarette holder dangling from her mouth and refused to grant copyright.

In 2001, the nation’s government had printed 14 million of the stamps as part of a series featuring movie stars including Charlie Chaplin, Marilyn Monroe and Greta Garbo. Following Ferrer’s objection, the print run was destroyed, reports The Telegraph.

However, the finance ministry had already delivered advance copies to Deutsche Post for approval, and 30 of the proof copies escaped destruction when an unknown employee pocketed them and used them to send letters postmarked from Berlin.

“We can only guess that whoever took the Hepburn stamps from Deutsche Post didn’t realize their value, thought they would save 55 cents and just used them on normal letters,” said Andreas Schlegel, the auctioneer. (ANI)

Rare Audrey Hepburn stamp to go on sale

London, May 26 (IANS) A rare stamp featuring actress Audrey Hepburn is set to go on sale in Germany, eight years after its entire print run had to be destroyed due to her son’s objections.

Contactmusic.com reports that the stamps were commissioned by the German government in 2001 as part of a collection featuring portraits of stars including Charlie Chaplin, Marilyn Monroe and Greta Garbo.

But Hepburn’s son, Sean Ferrer, objected to the photo of his late mother, which had been used on the stamp because it showed her with a cigarette holder dangling from her lips.

He refused to grant copyright and all of the stamps were destroyed apart from 30 advanced copies which were saved from destruction by a postal employee and now one of the only five surviving copies is set to go under the hammer in Berlin.

It has a reserve bid set at $41,959 (27,972 pounds).

Anna Friel delighted with Breakfast At Tiffany’s role

London, May 16 (ANI): English actress Anna Friel has revealed that she is very delighted to have been given a role in West End production of Breakfast At Tiffany’s.

Friel, 32, who is famed for her role as Beth Jordache in Brookside, will be playing the naive socialite in a production in London this September.

“Truman Capote’s Breakfast At Tiffany’s has always been one of my favourite novels,” the Sun quoted her as saying.

“I am delighted to have been given both the opportunity to play one of my all time favourite heroines, Holly Golightly, and to be returning home to the London stage,” she added.

Audrey Hepburn had previously played the role in 1961, in the film adaptation of Truman Capote’s 1958 novella of the same name. (ANI)

New Audrey Hepburn’s pictures to be shown in public

London, Apr 26 (ANI): Images of Audrey Hepburn, which were captured in Paris during a film’s break, are to be the part of an exhibition that opens in Britain next week to coincide with the 80th anniversary of her birth.

The snaps were taken when the then 28-year-old beauty was trying to start a family with new husband and fellow actor Mel Ferrer.

One of the photographs, which were taken by photographer Sam Shaw, shows Hepburn resting against a tree in the Bois de Boulogne during a break in filming for the 1957 film Love In The Afternoon.

Another sees the actress clutching her beloved Yorkshire Terrier, Mr Famous.

“She was very professional and very sweet,” The Telegraph quoted Melissa Stevens, granddaughter of Shaw and manager of his archive, as saying.

“Nobody had a bad word to say about her and she travelled around the world for her career which must have been personally quite demanding,” she added.

According to Melissa, Shaw, who was best-known for his portrait of Marilyn Monroe standing over a street grille with her skirt billowing for The Seven Year Itch in 1955, snapped Hepburn over a four-year period and was granted unprecedented access to his subjects because they were also his friends.

“He was a Renaissance man and saw only a narrow line between his life and his work so his photographs would fit into the time he spent with these actors and actresses off the set,” she said.

Audrey died from colon cancer in Switzerland 1993.

Proud Galleries and The Sam Shaw Archives, Ltd. presents Audrey and Marilyn is showing at Proud Central, 32 John Adam Street, London between 30th April and 26th July www.proud.co.uk. (ANI)

Knightley ‘desperately’ wants to land My Fair Lady role

London, Mar 14 (ANI): Keira Knightley desperately wants to land the lead role in the remake of My Fair Lady because she’s been preparing for the part for two years.

Apparently, the stunner has been begging studio bosses to finally cast her as the leading lady.

Earlier, rumors were abuzz that Knightley had secured the role made famous by Audrey Hepburn in the 1964 musical, based on George Bernard Shaw’s comedy of manners, Pygmalion.

However, the actress insists casting directors have not made a final decision since she first read for the role in 2007.

“I auditioned for it about two years ago, and I think it’s been a matter of trying to assemble the correct team to do it that is going to make as interesting a movie and as good a movie as possible,” The Daily Express quoted her, as telling Moviefone.com.

“There are good whispers going around, you know, and hopefully they’ll come to fruition,” she added. (ANI)

Roger Moore to help Israeli group fight AIDS in Africa

Jerusalem, Feb 24 (ANI): Former James Bond star Roger Moore will donate his fee from an appearance at the fourth International Eilat Chamber Music Festival to help fight AIDS in Africa.

The earnings will go to the Jerusalem AIDS Project (JAIP), an Israeli program that encourages male circumcision as a way of reducing AIDS and HIV.

The 81-year-old is narrating Saint Saens’ orchestral character piece Carnival of the Animals at the festival, now under way at the Herod’s Forum hotel.

Some 80 musicians from around the world are taking part, performing 14 concerts in six days. Master classes are also being held.

Moore has been a UNICEF ‘goodwill ambassador’ since 1991, promoting women’s and children’s health.

He was inspired to work for UNICEF by the late actress Audrey Hepburn, herself a ‘goodwill ambassador,’ after being deeply moved by India’s poverty while filming a movie there.

Moore said he had a growing interest in the importance of health and disease prevention, and said his visit was meant to promote HIV awareness and education.

“Prevention is the best cure of disease,” The Jerusalem Post quoted him, as saying. (ANI)

It began with a croissant and coffee at Beverly Hills jeweller Tiffany’s, where she dressed as her heroine’s character Holly Golightly for a real breakfast at Tiffany’s.

And the Hepburn theme continued throughout the day at the Montage, where friends and family celebrated with the ‘Ghost Whisperer’ star.

Audrey Hepburn named Ultimate Screen Beauty

London, Feb 11 (ANI): Audrey Hepburn has pipped Angelina Jolie to land the honour of the ultimate screen beauty in a new survey.

The star of Breakfast At Tiffany’s topped the survey of Hollywood actresses through the ages, while Angelina Jolie, Keira Knightley and Halle Berry followed her in the second, third and fourth positions.

The poll of nearly 2,000 film fans put Hepburn in first place, citing her perfect bone structure and almond eyes. Jolie was second, although she was a favourite with younger voters, and Kelly was third, reports the Telegraph.

The survey was commissioned by Sky+ HD.

Nicola Moulton, beauty and health director of Vogue, said: “A great cinematic beauty by definition has to look amazing in motion, not just in pictures.

“Audrey Hepburn is clearly a timeless beauty explaining why she is the nation’s choice, though a personal favourite of mine has always been Vivien Leigh – she was not only breathtakingly beautiful but had an astonishingly expressive face.

“Unlike many actresses her expressions never run counter to her beauty, which seems an essential point of her being rather than just a quirk of genetics.”
