Sexy scamster trio seduce Manhattan men off their ATM cards

New York, Sep 14 (ANI): Three girls in Manhattan, US are said to have ripped off dozens of single guys, picking them up at high-end nightclubs and pick pocketing their wallets and phones.

The trio are said to have targeted unsuspecting drunk men by offering them lifts or inviting them to after-hour parties, and then once the men were in the car they would take them to ATMs.

And while the men withdrew money they would sidle up to them, and once back in the car they would pinch their bankcards, and using pilfered PIN codes they would tap the victims’ accounts.

According to the police, the three lured in as many as 50 victims, and one man ended up losing 5,000 dollars, while others lost their cellphones and BlackBerrys.

“They knew just who to look for,” the New York Post quoted a detective as saying.

“Pretty much drunk guys looking to get from point A to point B. They’re in a good mood and figure, ‘Let me take a ride’,” he said.

The three women, all in their 20s, were busted on September 7 after allegedly swiping 1,600 dollars from a lawyer they picked up near Lotus on West 14th Street.

The lawyer, a highly paid private equity attorney who lives on Sutton Place, said he met the woman as he sat on a curb smoking a cigarette at 4 a.m. at 423 W. 14th St.

“They drove up in a car with the windows down and said, ‘Let’s go to a party. Would you like to come with us?’” he recalled.

He got into their car and they drove to an ATM machine so he could get money, and two of the suspects, Tiffany Rasberry, 21, and Barbara Labady, 22, followed and watched as he punched in his number and withdrew cash.

“They started touching me to distract me. I didn’t realize what was happening,” he said.

After the group got back in the car, a third defendant, Subhanna Beyah, 21, pretended to feel sick, and when he got out to let her exit, the three drove off.

That’s when he realized they’d snatched his ATM card.

Within 30 minutes, they’d withdrawn the money from his account. He called the cops, who searched the area, spotted the women, and arrested them.

Each has been charged with multiple counts of grand larceny and possession of stolen property.

One detective said the women viewed the scams as an alternative to turning tricks.

“They saw this as something where they tried to clean up their acts,” he stated. (ANI)

Pak women become cautious after a legislator steals credit cards to buy jewellery

Lahore, July 14 (ANI): Women from all strata of Pakistani society have become cautious after a woman legislator belonging to PML-N Shumaila Rana allegedly stole credit cards and bought jewellery and clothes worth Rs 80,000 with it.

Police sources said the three PPC sections 420, 468 and 471 were added to the case of MPA Shumaila Rana for committing fraud and cheating the complainant woman.

Earlier, the case was registered against the accused MPA only under section 379 of PPC. he police investigators found fake signatures of the MPA on the receipt she received from a jewellery shop after purchasing jewellery on the stolen credit cards, the sources said.

Women visiting different health clubs, beauty parlours and gyms have demanded provision of separate lockers for the safety of their stuff, the Daily Times reported.

Zaib, a swimming pool and gym in-charge at a local club in Gulberg told Aaj Kal that Shumaila had committed a shameful act.

She accused the media of blowing the incident out of proportion and hence casting a bad impression on the viewers abroad.

Zaib said after the incident, women coming to the health club had become suspicious of fellow visitors.

She said most of the women coming to such clubs were well off and carried jewellery, cash and ATM cards in their bags.

Previously, the members would put away their stuff without any fear, but now they had become very cautious and demanded separate lockers, Zaib said.

“We will have to fulfil this genuine demand of our members in a next couple of days,” she added. (ANI)

Now, printable batteries that can be integrated into ATM cards, greeting cards

Washington, July 3 (ANI): Have problems remembering that TAN number while doing online transactions? Well, your ATM card could soon tell the code just with a simple touch, all thanks to newly developed printable batteries that could easily be fitted into bankcards.

Developed by a research team led by Prof. Dr. Reinhard Baumann of the Fraunhofer Research Institution for Electronic Nano Systems ENAS in Chemnitz, the printable battery can be produced cost-effectively on a large scale.

“Our goal is to be able to mass produce the batteries at a price of single digit cent range each,” said Dr. Andreas Willert, group manager at ENAS.

The characteristics of the battery differ significantly from those of conventional batteries.

The printable version weighs less than one gram on the scales, is not even one millimetre thick, and can therefore be easily integrated into bankcards.

The battery does not contain mercury and is thus environmentally friendly.

Its voltage is 1.5 V, which lies within the normal range, thus by placing several batteries in a row, voltages of 3 V, 4.5 V and 6 V can also be achieved.

The new type of battery is composed of different layers: a zinc anode and a manganese cathode, among others.

Zinc and manganese react with one another and produce electricity, but the anode and the cathode layer dissipate gradually during this chemical process. Therefore, the battery is suitable for applications, which have a limited life span or a limited power requirement, for instance greeting cards.

The batteries are printed using a silk-screen printing method similar to that used for t-shirts and signs.

A kind of rubber lip presses the printing paste through a screen onto the substrate, while a template covers the areas that are not to be printed on.

The process makes it possible to apply comparatively large quantities of printing paste, and the individual layers are slightly thicker than a hair.

The researchers have already produced the batteries on a laboratory scale, and the first products could possibly be finished by the end of this year. (ANI)

Jigeesha case accused gives cops the slip

One of the accused in the murder cases of television journalist Soumya Vishwanathan and IT executive Jigeesha Ghosh managed to give the police a slip on Thursday afternoon. The accused identified as Ajay Sethi also attacked a policeman who tried to intercept his car near Badarpur border in southeast Delhi on Thursday.

The police team was stuck in the traffic jam at Badarpur border while the accused managed to fled from the scene. Police said they had deployed several teams who had been on trail of Sethi.

Three of the accused-Ravi Kapoor, Amit Kumar Shukla and Baljeet Malik alias Poppy who are presently in two days custody of south district police informed about the whereabouts of Sethi. Sethi who lives in Faridabad, had allegedly helped the accused in helping them dispose the Wagon R car used in the murder of Soumya, police said.

“When we grilled the accused they told us about the whereabouts of Sethi. They however did not divulge the correct address and we had to deploy more than 50 policemen on foot as well as scooters on his trail,” said a senior police officer.

Police said they reached Badarpur border-where Sethi was to meet one of his accomplices-on the basis of a specific tip-off. “Around 4 pm we had almost cornered him, but he managed to flee.

A constable had also managed to break open the windowpane of the Santro car he was driving. Sethi punched him hard and the constable fell on the ground,” said the officer.

Another police team that was following him got stuck in the traffic jam and Sethi gave them a slip. When the police raided his rented accommodation in Faridabad they did not find anyone and neighbours informed the police that Sethi’s wife left the house only few minutes ago.

Accused destroyed Jigeesha’s cards Ravi Kapoor, a car thief who is said to be the leader of the gang that killed Ghosh and Vishwanathan told the police that he destroyed the cards soon after purchasing goods from it. “So far we have not recovered Ghosh’s ATM cards from Kapoor or the other accused.

They told us that they destroyed the cards soon after they had used it for purchases from Sarojini Nagar market on March 19,” said the officer. The accused would be produced in a city court on Friday where the police will seek their remand again in Vishwanathan’s case.

Accused unrepentant Policemen who interrogated the three accused said that they were unremorseful and were not guilty at all. “They have not shown any kind of remorse during their interrogation.

They confessed to other incidents of robbery and car thefts as well,” said the officer.

No charge on withdrawing cash from other bank ATM’s from April 1

New Delhi, Mar 29 (ANI): The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) directive to the banks to stop charging fee for cash withdrawals using ATM and debit cards issued by other lenders will be implemented from April 1 onwards.

According to the directive, the people would be saved from paying an extra fee for taking out money from an Automated Teller Machine that does not belong to their own bank.

However, the banks are still allowed to charge extra for the services like cash withdrawal from ATM’s outside India.

The RBI, last year on March 20 had limited the fee charged for using other ATM’s by customers to Rs 20. The move had permitted the use of ATM’s for purposes like checking the balance enquiry free of charge.

This had led to various banks entering into bilateral and multi-lateral arrangements with other banks to have inter-bank ATM networks. (ANI)
